Bardzo duze rozczarowanie! Jedzenie bardzo drogie,nie smaczne, surowe, barszcz czerwony z pierogami okropny z duza iloscia okropnego tluszczu plywajacego na talerzu a farsz pierogow zrobiony ze starych zmiksowanych chyba pieczrek bo trudno okreslic poniewaz byl obrzydliwy! Poledwiczki w sosie borowikowym nie doprawione, miejscami surowe ze az krew sie lala a druga polowa przegotowana! Trudno bylo to nazwac sosem borowikowym skoro na talerzu mialam malutki kawalek grzyba. Kelnerki nawet nie spytaly czy smakowalo. Domyslam sie ze widzac nasze rozczarowanie nie chcialy po prostu pytac o nasza opinie bo przypuszczam ze niezamierzaly wysluchiwac naszej opini w stosunku do jedzenia. Co do wlasciciela to niech nauczy sie odpowiadac bardziej profesjonalnie a nie bezczelnie opdowiada na review bo ktos wyrazil swoja opinie w stosunku do jedzenia za ktore placimy! Nigdy wiecej tam nie wrocimy i nigdy nie polece tej restauracji.

This is the best place in Reading. The food is great. Great value and staff are so nice. If you wanna experience authentic polish food.visit there

Saturday night, the place was understaffed so had to wait a while to even get a drink. Food was a little weird, chicken with mozzarella & pineapple, arrived with no pineapple, had boiled potatoes on top of mash, and the mash was full of onion. The floor was disgusting, food everywhere, wet, splashes of drink all up the wall. Not impressed. Last time we went it was superb, not so much this time. Atmosphere for a Saturday night was a bit lame as well. Good sized portions of food & drink, reasonably priced.

We had a great visit to Piwnica. The restaurant is lovely and welcoming and the staff were very nice. The food was absolutely gorgeous and the portions were huge. There are loads of amazing Polish dishes to try and we hope to get back sooner rather than later.

Un po' defilato rispetto al centro citta', accogliente locale di cucina polacca con arredamento in tema con ampio parcheggio auto. Quando ci siamo andati noi, abbiamo notato un gruppo famigliare polacco, good news. Come starter abbiamo scelto un tradizionale borsch. Poi i "pierogi". Che sono ben dodici ravioloni, se si prende il mix suddiviso in gusti vari. Ottimi e abbondanti, da gustare con tutta calma. Dopo questi pero' non avevamo piu' spazio per il dessert. Scelte di birre polacche e prezzo corretto

We had a great time, great food, and the staff was extremely accommodating with my autistic sister. She had a meltdown and Yola was helping us sort everything. We are definitely coming back!

We dont even have a chance to try the food. However if the quality is the same as customer service thats good we dont waste a time and money. On arrival there was plenty of free tables, apart dirty dishes everywhere but blond hair waitress refused to serve as because we dont have reservation. We have around 45 min to the time which she state but still she refuse to serve. It was our first and last time, very dirty place. The only reason we went there it was being around. Otherwise we will never go there! If someone have some taste will avoid at whole cost.

Date night on a Tuesday. Food lovely and good portions. Wine served in a big gin glass so well worth the £4.50, decent amount ,not sparingly like most restaurants. Service was good, shame about the background music - same record constantly and annoying. Getting there is a bit of a pain if you don't know the one-way systems around Reading, but all-in-all, good place to eat and reasonably priced.

Fabulous tasty Polish food and drink. We had mushroom and sauerkraut dumplings to start and Beef Goulash and Lamb as mains. All of it was delicious

Found it by accident when looking for Polish shops and boy was it a good accident. I’d say the decor is typically village layout with wooden panels. The food is excellent.

It was a great night. We booked a table for 8. They had us right next to the band and we asked to be moved. The staff were very helpful and made us a new table up. The food and service was excellent. Will definitely be back.

Extremely friendly and welcoming. Surprisingly busy on a Saturday early evening. Waiter started in Polish but quickly worked out we weren't and switched to English. Food really good, generous portions. We were recommended the potato pancakes and goulash and the kievs and would heartily agree - rich goulash with well cooked beef, amazing kievs. Will certainly be back

Fuimos un grupo de 5 amigos a la hora de comer. La camarera fue muy amable y atenta en todo momento. La comida estaba buenísima, se nota mucho cuando los ingredientes son de calidad. Las porciones son bastante grandes. Pedimos postre también (tarta de manzana y creps con el típico queso polaco) que estaba buenísimo. El interior del restaurante me hizo sentir como en algún restaurante en Zakopane. Nos encantó a todos. Lo recomiendo muchísimo, seguro que volveremos.

Both my husband and I were wowed from the very beginning. The steps down into this cellar restaurant and the whole feel as you walk into the dark (dimmed light) restaurant felt so authentic. We were greeted by who I believe is the owner (blonde Polish lady) and Seated by one of the waitresses. The menu was fairly minimal (but we like that as less options mean more fresh food) We had meat dumplings to start - MASSIVE portion! This we regretted as the meal was so big in itself. Although they were very tasty dumplings, if it's just a couple then I'd suggest skipping the starter. I had the pork hock as I had seen it on their Instagram and felt hungry. Husband had the pork with egg. The hock was bigger than my head!!! We took more than 3 quarters of it home to have the next day! So so generous with their portions. We finished off by sharing an apple pie with homemade ice cream. For someone who isn't massively into apple pie, it was a surprise to my husband when I was fighting him for the last bite! Absolutely sublime! The waitress brings out the receipts in a cute little treasure box and my fave addition to any restaurant, it had 2 chocolates inside 😋 Wonderful experience which we both thoroughly enjoyed. 100% recommend to anyone going to Reading. Just be careful of filling up on the dumplings!

If you’re thinking of visiting this restaurant you need to know that the owners have no regard for the environment or the cleanliness of Reading. I followed their vehicle and saw them discard 2 cigarette ends from the window. If they treat our town like this they don’t deserve our custom. I will never eat there.

Been coming here for years and good food and service. Went yesterday and very disappointed. The staff were good and fitted us in without a booking so no issues there. I had the liver which I always order as sweet, tender and a huge portion. My plate came half empty with 4 piece of liver and some were tender and the rest chewy. Last time I had maybe 12 to 15 equal size pieces. The liver was not on the menu so had nonidea of price. When night paid it was £21.80 for that and a small coke. It if was a full plate then ok with price as ingredients more expensive although liver still the cheapest meat by far. Rral shame. My friends meals were bigger and better so I need to be fair overall but personally I was super disssponted as it used to be a favourite.

We read the reviews before booking and were excited in anticipation. It did not disappoint me or my darling partner! The food was wholesome and plentiful! The restaurant has the ambience of a sleepy alpine snow chalet in early season but certianly worth the effort and I highly recommend it. The filet steak was cooked by my hands amd I loved it and the goulash was horrifically tender and tasty. On another table I heard the diners say the chicken Kiev was superb! I having that next visit!

We had an early dinner here midweek, and were really impressed. We all tried something new and nobody was disappointed - portions very generous, flavours all spot on, service with a smile always helps!

Something a little different! I had never had polish food before, or come across polish restaurants. My husband and I are good eaters so like to try new things. Piwnica did not disappoint. From the outside it doesn’t look like much, a huge car park with a door at the end leading down into a basement. We weren’t sure what we had gotten ourselves into… Indoors though the setting is lovely. Walls painted in polish theme - hills, logs, bells etc. waitresses are dressed in polish attire. There were many polish people eating there too so we thought this to be a good sign. Food was DELICIOUS. we had the mixed dumplings as a starter. The fillings were lovely and different. My husband had pork with mushrooms and bacon for main, and I had beef goulash with potato pancakes. The portion sizes were big. We were stuffed by the end. No puddings but didn’t need it. We had 2 polish beers each. I don’t usually drink beer but my honey infused beer was very nice and light. Only thing I would say was we hadn’t quite finished the starter before the main came, so it would have been nice to have a bit of a break between courses. Highly recommend.

The food and service were shot! The portions are very generous but fortunately we were all hungry.The soups - Rosol and Barszcz were especially tasty. Husband raved about the Pierogi and my Kotlet was moist and delicious

Huge portion sizes, the pierogies were great and you could tell they were handmade. Very tasty and reasonably priced.

Brilliant , it’s just great food lots of it all superb been many times , great staff and it’s on Deliveroo so you can get a leg of lamb delivered to you door pure heaven . Keep it up guys

Well worth going a little further out of the centre (its still very easy to get to) staff are very friendly, food is amazing, large portions, reasonably priced, cannot fault this place on anything!

Lovely Polish food, I’ve been many times now; consistently good. My favourite is the pork in breadcrumbs, Kotlet Schabowy.

This place is set in the basement of the polish mission but everyone is welcome. The decor is of a polish hunting lodge style making it warm and cosy. The food is traditionally Polish Mama recipes with all the usual favourites. There’s a large car park so no issues with parking. It’s set a distance away from central Reading but don’t let it put you off.

I’ve persuaded my English family to try Polish Food and invited them to Piwnica. I had never been there before but I believed in the good reviews on Trip Adviser. Unfortunately, our experience was awful! The waitress, a nice and polite girl, does not have any knowledge or experience how to do her job. She placed five menus on the table and disappeared for 15 min! She does not speak English and even did not react when one of my English guests tried to order his food in Polish. She had a dirty blouse and sophisticated bright coloured nails but it would be so helpful if she could spend some time even on you tube to see what does it mean to be a waitress, because she did not a clue. And it is more than to put a plate in the table. The food was terrible: old, reheated and overdone. I needed to apologies to my company for the embarrassingly poor quality of food. I was really ashamed. I am originally from Poland and I perfectly know how eg potatoes pancakes should be done and what is Barszcz z uszkami. The raviolis in barszcz were cooked in the barszcz-Instead of gold fresh placki, we received burned, black pancakes, extremely over salted which the kitchen should never allow to leave the kitchen. The pork ribs wMy partner ordered kopytka with chicken sos and it was another disaster. Kopytka were overcooked and the amount of chicken sos made the whole dish looked more than soup than this what was expected.When I complained the owner came and apologies, offered not to charge for the pancakes and gave us a free bottle of a good wine, which all was fair enough to. Summarising, if you really would like to try typical polish food- do not expect to get it in the Piwnica. The authentic Polish cousin is delicious, full of flavour and unfortunately nothing like Piwnica offers!

This is our restaurant of choice in Reading. Easy to park, reasonable prices and such great food! Yes the portions are generous but I don't understand the reviews that say food is wasted - just ask for a container and take it away. The dumplings are just as good for lunch the next day! The service isn't always quick but for a relaxed meal out it's perfect.

I visited with my dad on a Tuesday evening. I had heard from a few people that Piwnica was worth a visit and we finally got around to visiting! For a starter we had the polish sausage, with onion and bread and that was delicious. For the main, we both had pierogi, which we also enjoyed. The portion sizes are huge, so worth bearing in mind if you’re also planning to get a starter-the pierogi were hard to finish for this reason. Good range of beers, unfortunately all were bottled and none from tap. Very friendly and attentive service. Definitely worth a visit for something a bit different in Reading!

I go with my friends often and we always just manage to finish our dishes. Portions are very generous, which reflect a very homely feast. Great starter of fish and an amazing main to share with so much to try.

WOW!! I repeat WOW!!! Food is amazing in this hidden gem in reading. Traditional polish food at its best. A real taste of home. Lovely atmosphere with a mixture of people dining. People were speaking English, Italian and polish and that was just the tables surrounding us. We had an amazing evening and will certainly be back

La comida nunca es decepcionante y siempre aparecemos cuando estamos en Reading. Normalmente tenemos horas tranquilas y normalmente hay una o dos camareras trabajando en turnos. La última vez que vinimos en un día un poco más ocupado. Era más personal trabajando pero el servicio fue muy decepcionante. En realidad, no había ningún servicio en absoluto. Comida traída - platos limpios. Era una sensación de que el personal no estaba contento con otra mesa que entró. Teníamos entrantes para compartir y ni siquiera nos ofrecieron platos laterales. ¡Teníamos que comer en nuestras servilletas! Después de que limpiaron los platos principales, nadie ofreció postres ni cafés. El personal estaba limpiando y retransmitiendo mesas sin prestarnos atención. Finalmente, pedimos la factura y cuando la factura ya estaba sobre la mesa, una niña vino a ofrecer cafés. Como gerente de un restaurante, veo cuánto beneficio se puede hacer solo con estas pequeñas cosas, prestando un poco más de atención a las personas. Y es muy decepcionante cuando el personal decepciona tanto a un negocio como la comida es realmente genial. Nos fuimos con la sensación de que no nos recibieron en absoluto.

We went because of the reviews and wanted to try something new that wasn't the usually pasta, burger or pizza. We loved it. Great authentic food, very filling and tasty. We had sausage starters and stuffed mushrooms, then ribs and pork neck. The service was fantastic and food piping hot. We will definitely be back again to try some more dishes.

Tuvimos una fantástica comida auténtica en Piwnica. Las salchichas y entrantes de queso ahumado eran fantásticos. El ghoulash con panqueque de papa y carne de res en salsa de champiñones y crema con ñoquis de papa fue de primera clase. Tienen un menú de postres, y aunque uno de los artículos no estaba disponible, nos sirvieron una gran porción de tarta de queso europea (no la variedad estadounidense) vestida con fruta fresca, que era increíble.

The food is lovely, the portion sizes are even better and The atmosphere is relaxed. You couldn't really ask for more. I'd recommend the potato pancakes.

There are so many excellent reviews for this restaurant that we went along with very high expectations - probably not a good idea for a first visit as we were a bit disappointed. The pluses: good ambiance, friendly service, BIG portions, excellent car park and good access by car and bus, large menu, a few vegetarian and vegan options. The negatives: around a third of what we wanted to order were "off", portions were far too large and resulted in wasted food, prices weren't especially low, no dessert of any sort was on offer (that may be traditional in Poland, I don't know) though with the large portions desserts were unnecessary. And the most important thing for me, quality of food, I'd regard as neutral - some things were really nice (e.g. Polish sausage, sauerkraut, Bortsch soup with dumplings) but others were rather boring. So in summary, I can see why people like Piwnica so much, but it's not for us.

Poland is an incredible country and this resteraunt reflects all that is truly wonderful about Poland. The food is outstanding. Authentic and delicious. Very filling but full compliments to the exceptional chef. Located in a basement, with outdoor seating also. Great parking facilities. Full range of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. The polish water is delicious and the vodka is exceptional. Enjoy here with friends and family or solo. Everybody very welcome as would be no doubt in beautiful Poland. The courageous and brave country. Great lighting. Excellent staff who can advise on the most authentic and appropriate dishes. Although I am sure they are all amazing. Poland is an inspiration, the people are hard working and very kind and this resteraunt reminds you of the special polish people you know in life. Great opportunity to speak polish if one can and also all nationalities welcome as would be in Poland. I am sure. Incredible experience to remind you of all that is truly great about the incredible polish people and Poland.

I visit a few times a year with friends. Consistently awesome food and good portion size. Great polish beers and spirits. Staff always friendly and help with guidance on dishes. Keep up the great work and will be back soon :-)

Been meaning to go here for ages and glad we finally did. Very authentic restaurant with a nice atmosphere. Good service, massive portions at a reasonable price. We had starters, mains, a beer each and a bottle of wine. It came to less than £70 and we were very full! The lamb was amazing.. very tender, fell off the bone. Would recommend

I've been coming to Piwnica regularly for a number of years. It has evolved becoming a more refined venue certainly less rustic. The food has always been good. However as the portions seem to have reduced the prices have increased exponentially. London prices now.

Don't think I have ever been given tinned carrots in a restaurant before. There were no gluten free starters available so I sat and watched my husband while he ate his, very salty, herrings. I had hoped to have something Polish for my lunch but ended up with salmon, chips and boiled veg, some of them may have been prepared in the restaurant but others were tinned (possibly a jar). My husband enjoyed his Polish dumplings. The menu is not marked up with gluten free options so it is possible that there was a better gf main available. As choosing involved a guessing game of, is this gf, what about this, I won't be going back to find out.

I went here with my daughter and her (Polish) boyfriend. The staff were very cheerful, friendly and helpful, the food and service was great and it was a brilliant atmosphere. The clientele were mainly Polish, what better recommendation for a Polish restaurant! I will definitely be coming here again

Excellent food, service , everything. Doesn’t look like a restaurant when you arrive, but just go to the back and inside and you will find yourself in very pleasant meals. Portion are really big, very tasty.

Estuve allí como un grupo grande y nos permitieron encontrar una habitación completa solo para nosotros con todas las decoraciones y galletas de Navidad en la mesa. Tuvimos una gran comida, el personal muy agradable. Servicio rápido y amable. La cerveza de miel es imprescindible y no olvides que es muy barata.

The food is fabulous, made a mistake of ordering Zurek and then Placki with Beef Goulash, impossible to eat all of this as the portions are enormous. Next time I’ll just order one to make sure I don’t leave anything. My wife’s ribs with mashed potatoes were of the same size. There needs to be a siesta room there to recover after the meal. Unfortunately as I was driving the beer was out of the question. Very highly recommend this place.

Dining out in Reading is overly dominated by the parking and chain offers of the Oracle. We were looking for something else. And oh! We found it! In the basement of an old grand house on London Road, underneath an active Polish community centre. Piwnica offered classic Polish fare, gargantuan portions of lovely fresh food. Washed down with bottles of a range of Polish beer. Served by lovely, gracious staff. In a warm, tavern-like setting. Pelogi (little filled dumplings, like a Polish form of Japanese Gyozo. A sharing platter for the three of us that could have fed six, a ham hock, schnitzel, succulent ribs, chicken kievs (forgive them for honouring neighbouring fare!), side salads and hot vegetables. Perla beer.. The chains fell away, our appetites were crushed. As is Polish tradition, we took breakfast away.. Strongly recommended.

Great food, huge portions generally. The best soft, sweet liver ever. Golden brown and melt in your mouth. You can often ask for half portions as well at reduced price which makes sense as portions so large. No frills but sold mome cooking at fair price.

Piwnica is my most favourite place in Reading to go for tasty food. It’s a great down to earth place with no frills or pretentiousness, friendly staff and the most delicious food. If you go, make sure you’re hungry as the portions are large. Prices are very reasonable.

I visited this Polish restaurant with friends as a new experience and found it is a place to visit again. The service was outstanding, the food (fresh cooked) was perfect and satisfying.! Well worth visit.

First time here and will certainly be going back and introduced some friends to the fantastic food, service was beyond measure, cosy atmosphere great selection of cold beers and wines, but the food was just so filling as they are large portions , with so much more to choose , can't wait to go again, and try out the other food on offer.

Are here with 6 friends last night and we had a fabulous time. We had lots of authentic dishes, such as Pierogi, red and white borscht, mutton, potato pancakes and goulash and it was all delicious. The Rioja was lovely. The atmosphere was great and the staff lovely.

Went because I wanted to try something new and different. Piwnica is an authentic Polish restaurant serving delicious food. It is clearly very popular, which is always a good sign and the service was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble. We had a lovely evening and I would highly recommend it.

Not where you'd expect a restaurant to be, in the basement below what is now the Polish Catholic Centre in Reading, but then most things about this visit were unexpected, least of all my first time in a Polish restaurant. A huge and handy free car park behind the restaurant. The tables, bare wood and the decor fairly basic with some Polish artifacts around the place from different ages and a bar at the end. It is spotlessly clean, however and service is friendly and attentive. I started with Zupa Borowik, a porcini mushroom soup, made fresh and utterly succulent with unique porcini flavour and a slight zing. I loved it! For the main, I had the Dorsz, a cod fillet with ratatouille on a piping hot bed of mashed potato. Again superb! The ratatouille was spicy without being overpowering and the cod was cooked to perfection, the potatoes being just right. To be honest, I wasn't expecting this kind of quality. Neither was I expecting the generosity of the portions! I had a couple of glasses of a New Zealand white Chardonnay which was very pleasant, though not outstanding. All in all soup will cost between £4 and £6 and a main between £13 and £16. A glass of wine is around the £6 mark, but a decent sized glass is about a quarter of a bottle! Price-wise not bad at all, food-wise very good indeed. If there was one downside it was minor; food was slow coming out of the kitchen, although I can forgive this because of the quality. Plus, it was a Monday night. Best in Reading? Well, it's certainly coming close.

Amazing food and cosy atmosphere! I have tried almost everything from their menu and each dish was unique and delicious!! No wonder why I have been going back to that restaurant so many times since 2016 !!!

A gem of a place. Large portions of authentic Polish food. Fantastic atmosphere and very friendly service. This is our second trip to Reading and our third visit to Piwnica. Make it here for a great evening.

Vine aquí el sábado a la hora del almuerzo con un par de amigos, uno de los cuales es polaco y pudo recomendar sus favoritos. Elegí las tortitas de papa con Pouk Goulash y una Perla Miodowa (cerveza de miel). El lugar está escondido en una calle lateral, a pocos pasos del centro de Reading. El restaurante en sí está en el sótano del edificio, pero la decoración es muy agradable y acogedora, como una taberna de montaña. . Un montón de madera oscura por todas partes. La comida estuvo deliciosa y generosa.

Piwnica serves good, basic, traditional food, in large portions, at good prices and with good service, in a Carpathian mountain atmosphere.

Came up to reading to see daughter..looking for a quiet place to eat .Good wholesome food ...Good service enjoyable evening would recommend for low key good food .

If you have a hearty appitite and like non fussy food then Piwnica is the place to go.

Everything very tasty and generous size portions. The only thing I would improve is the look of toilets (ladies, didn't see the other :) ).

Super jedzonko ,smacznie dużo i cenowo też dobrze. Kelnerki miłe i pomocne. Polecam miła atmosfera i jest fajny ogródek.

Bardzo fajnie miejsce miła obsługa jedzenie bardzo dobre prawie jak w domu. Ładny wystrój dobre miejsce skoczyć na niedzielny obiad będąc w angli a spędzić czas w polskiej reprezentacji. Polecam warto. Pozdrawiam

Incredibly good value for lovely slow cooked flavourful food. Try the honey beer too - although watch out because it’s surprisingly moreish but 6%!

It feels like being in a forest, with bark encrusted wooden walls and a little waterfall. I had a couple of beers, a Bison vodka, and pierogi to eat which was tasty. Will return for other dishes soon.

This was our second visit to Piwnica. It’s tricky to find - you need to access the car park from the road behind London Road (Montague St off Kings Road). But it’s well worth it! Very friendly service, huge portions of delicious, traditional polish food, a good selection of beers and family friendly. Good value too!

This restaurant is in a rather random location and you might miss it if you're not careful. That being said when you get down there (it's in the basement of the building) it is very cosy and welcoming. The staff are friendly if not very speedy and there is a reasonable selection of Polish drinks on offer. We had starters and mains are enjoyed them all. Probably only needed the mains in hindsight as the portions are huge! Very hearty, comforting food, perfect for winter, even though we ate in July!

Very good quality, well prepared and tasteful food. As other commented, the portions are very generous. Service is very friendly and helpful. A hidden gem!

Great traditional Polish food. Lots of it on the plate. Make sure you are really hungry as everything is served up in massive portions for a very reasonable price. However, be prepared to wait for your food. Service is not the quickest. Waitresses are dressed in Polish national costumes and they do speak English. Be sure to make a reservation as the restaurant does get very busy.

I have been to this very traditional restaurant on a few occasions, staff are always eager to help and happy to explain the menu. The portions are big, the food is very tasty, the beef in particular. The car park is difficult to find, through a little warren of roads.But is very spacious if you find it. If possible leave the car at home and enjoy their local wine and beer.

Came here with some work colleagues. Great service. Great food. Massive portions. Good value. Car park quite hard to find. Definitely recommend to anyone who likes something a bit different
