Pisces Fish & Chips in East Northamptonshire

I've just been served the worst portion of fish & chips I've ever encountered. A sorry looking overcooked sliver of haddock and barely edible dried out chips, clearly cooked a while before and re-heated, that were more like eating chunks of cardboard. All for the price of £10 with a can of coke. Not impressed.

Excellent chippy. I was stopping at a near by hotel and stretched my legs looking for some food. Dropped in here and sat down at a table. Bit dear £14 for fish, chips, beans and a can. But I don’t mind paying more for good food. It was fantastic!! The service was excellent too. Will definitely be back next time I’m in the area.

Smallest portions of chips ever received, rude when I walked in , burger wrong . What can I say , won't be going again

Staying in Thrapston for a family event. Had spent 7 hours driving up from Devon and just wanted to eat before flopping into the hotel bed. Food was excellent and service quick and friendly. Highly recommend

If I could give them no stars, I would. 30 quid for a delivery of fish and chip etc and they turn up 30 mins late with cold reheated chips. Since this place has been taken over, it's gone down hill. We have given this chip shop plenty of chances but tonight is the final straw. I will never use this place again. I would advise anyone thinking of getting fish and chips to use Ben's, its now under new management and it was mobbed tonight. Steer clear of this place unless you want cold reheated chips and a late delivery. Truly pathetic

The fish and chips were cooked fresh and very tasty, the curry sauce was too runny and tasted 'different'. I think more staff would have been helpful

Usually good but tonight the cod was dripping in grease and the chips were awful. Very disappointed

went Friday, had 2 cheese burgers, uneatable, dried up and full of gristle...£4.00 each?, both went in the bin, 1st time there and the last.... i saw the guy chuck them in where they cook the chips and walk away....not a clue how to cook...i feel like reporting the place!

We attended the Thraptson charity garage sale and decided to buy some fish and chips. Although we had a long wait the chips and fish were cooked to order and tasted good. The chap serving was on his own and all credit to him made us feel relaxed and happy to wait.. I definitely recommend this place . I saw in the window that they offer a delivery service as well to the surrounding villages and towns .

Waited for freshly cooked food for more than twenty minutes. The teenagers behind the counter didn’t seem to know what they were doing. When I got it home it looked like a few left overs . 3 separate scraggy bits of fish. Not worth the wait or the money.

Unfortunately we had terrible service - not even offered salt & vinegar lol, staff seemed to be poorly trained, portions small for price, fish over greasy, chips tiny & dried up. This is such a shame for Thrapstons only chip shop now.

First time trying this place. It was okay but I wasn't overly impressed.

I have never had such incompetence & rudeness from the man who worked there. He got the order totally wrong after ignoring me for ages and continued to ignore me. Eventually I had to ask for a refund and get no food

Wanted takeaway asked for scampi n chips . scampi was good chips were dreadful overcooked withered n dry like old tasteless leftovers . will call in for scampi but do home chips in future

Food was good and a nice treat after a very long day at work ... but I worry how businesses like this will survive in the current economic climate ... over £15 for two bits of fish and one portion of chips. This isn't a criticism of the restaurant; more a criticism of the neglect of the economy by the government ... life is not good when fish and chips are out of the reach of a large portion (pun intended) of society.

Travelling through Thrapston at 5.45pm and nipped in for large cod and chips and a side order of onion rings. Unfortunately my order couldn't be fulfilled, as there was no large cod available and no onion rings available, which was a surprise so early on a Saturday evening. But, I must say that the tiny fish available was very nicely cooked and the chips were nice as well, if very expensive for the small portions.

Always awesome. Brad looked after us as always. Well priced. Perfectly cooked and we travel quite a way

Fish freshly cooked and excellent quality, have to agree with other reviews in regards to portion size (this was takeaway) and new staff. Chips not quite as nice as when first opened. For me the better of the two chip shops in Thrapston

Slightly disappointing, no large cod in fact no cod at all, no cod roe, only one haddock, only one steak pie. What we had tasted good but wonder why so little stock?

I was working local so thought I would check out the local fish and chip shop. I ordered a battered sausage and chips and paid my £3. After waiting for 10 minutes an attractive young lady walked in. The two young lads serving eyes suddenly awoken. The young lady ordered exactly the same meal as me and received hers instantly, and out the door she went! Another 5 minutes had passed and finally I could took into my meal, unfortunately the battered sausage wasn’t battered. Shocking customer service, will not be going here again that’s for sure!

Absolutely lovely piece of fish in the lightest batter. Good chips too. Really enjoyed. Excellent service, friendly staff.

My mum ( 89) and myself were passing through Thrapston and knew it was a sit in as well as a takeaway, decided to eat here, but upon entering found, because of covid, the restaurant was closed, 26-2-22 end of strict covid rules, what a nice chap Brad is, he took down the chairs, wiped the tables and made us feel at home, we had the most delicious fish, battered to perfection, lovely chips, mushy peas and a pot of tea, what great service, thank you all at Pisces for looking after my mum and I , Glenn and Hazel

Probably a bit unfair to share this rating as they were almost closed but there was not much prepered food to choose from, I had the last two small sausages leaving a fish cake and piece of chicken behind. The chips were OK but slightly over cooked due to being sat in the warmer for sometime I guess. As I say though, I was probably the last customer before closing, the weather was atrocious (keeping more people away) so I would not expect this to be considered as a "business as usual" type review.

Really like this place. The staff are nice and welcoming, the food is nicely cooked, not greasy. My fussy kids even like the food there.

After speaking with the owner he let us have a table in the restaurant. The service and food was first class. The fish was cooked perfectly and chips where crispy but not greasy. Thanks again for the great food and service.

My chips were green(all of them), after going through the whole menu with them they only had those chips which were green but they didn't specify the colour. The chicken was plain , dry and even if it was put outside in the rain there's no way that chicken is getting juicy. My friend was sick after his chips and burger which were both green and raw but the bread was burnt black

A few weeks ago , I rang my order in , to be collected by my husband when he finished work at 8pm , its never a problem , as he's 5minutes from shop . This particular day, they said they were shutting up shop at 8pm and were not prepared to wait til my hubby got there , I looked on shop times , and on website, it definitely says it closes at 9pm. I said fine, put the phone down . They then continued to ring a dozen times, but I was on the phone, first to hubby , telling him to come straight home , as I'd rang another place to get delivery instead. I tried again to ring them on Monday to place an order, website again says close at 9pm. I rang them , on and off starting around 6:30pm up till nearly 8pm . This time they didn't answer the phone at all . All I'll add to this is, they won't be getting around £30 worth of our order once every week .

Absolutely loved these fish and chips backed up with a really friendly service, cooked to order. Spotlessly clean as expected. Ps, try their homemade tartar sauce too.

Charged me 65 p extra cause he ain't got the normal onion rings. Poor customer service. Wandering if I didn't have the 'face that fits'

If your at the services on the A14 this place is a couple of minutes from you and is well worth the visit brilliant food and prices. Come on you can get a burger king anywhere else give this one five stars

The guys and girls who own and manage this F&C emporium are wonderful. We often use for a big delivery to the office, and I often use for a bespoke large piece of fish only. Its always fresh, hot and tasty, served with smiles and great customer care.

Very clean chippy for starters, the staff are very friendly and welcoming, the fresh chips are to do die for am addicted. Keep it up guys.

We ate in rather than take away. The fish was superb and the chips also. Excelent service and a good atmosphere in a very clean environment. Staff very friendly and helpful. The available sides were many and varied and the mushy peas a great choice. The restaurant also has other food including breakfasts. You can also have a pudding after your fish and chips (if you can manage it as the portions are big)

Being a little bit of an connoisseur where fish an chips are concerned (lived in Blackpool for 21 years where I've tried most chippys) I was bamboozled into finally trying the above chippy by wifey and my two bro in laws who rave about the place.Turned up at 1.15pm today to a shop that was probably running down for the 2pm close. The restaurant dining room has 3 tables of four and two tables for two people so booking a table would probably be a good idea as this chippy gets busy. We both ordered cod, chips and mushy peas along with two soft drinks and a mug of tea.The meal arrived and I have to say how pleased I was not to see soggy chips or greasy batter. The chips were crispy on the outside, hot and soft on the inside while the batter was crunchy outside with delicious bright white fish just begging to be eaten on the inside where the flavour titillated the taste buds. The last time I had fish and chips this good was in Blackpool at The "C" Fresh Fish and Chips Restaurant on Foxhall Rd on the Prom.Sadly I had to admit to wifey that she was right about the chippy and it is one of the better places to sample the delights of the British delicacy Fish and Chips. I also put this chippy on a level par with The "C" Fresh Fish and Chips Restaurant in Blackpool, no, strike that, it's probably just a bit better. So, my advise is....It's Jolly Bloody Good, Go Try It !!!

Tried this place last Friday for a quick portion of chips - busy with a queue and lots eating at tables which should be a good sign. Chips were ok , crispy . Service slow , not sure why they don’t have someone taking orders and money and someone making the orders - 1 person was very slow. And not sure why they have a silly spray gun for the vinegar , what actually comes out , just goes everywhere. Overall a 3 for me

This is now under new management and I can honestly say that this was the best fish and chips ever....fish was fresh and tender, batter cooked to perfection, crispy and not greasy and the chips were beautiful. Congratulations to the Willis family!! Great service as well as we eat in as a group which was great fun. Highly recommended

We were staying locally to visit the monster trucks event at Santa Pod and came across Pisces on Trip Advisor. The two lads running the establishment were really friendly which was a good start. Awesome cod and chips for me and my son ate most of his tea too which is always a good sign. Really good value too for sit down food. All in all I'm glad we visited and would recommend it to anyone else who enjoys good fish and chips.

My wife and I visited Pisces last night and I am delighted to confirm that the high standard has been maintained. Excellent cod and chips beautifully cooked and sensible and ample portions. Good service and no smell of cooking that can blight such establishments. Highly recommended. You will not be disappointed

Their fish is the best in the area as it is freshly cooked and you get a choice of haddock plaice or cod, chips are small portions and a bit pricey. Can be hit or miss with waiting times.
