Walking the Ridgeway, tired and looking for a coffee and cake this cafe looked good. Coffee and cake were indeed good but the reception and attitude of the lady manager was terrible. We were told off for coming in and sitting down (there is no sign that says please wait), we were then told off for ordering at the counter ( we thought we had to). In general we were made to feel like a nuisance as she stomped around and crashed the plates and glasses together as she cleared tables. It really did not make a relaxing or pleasant time. Ate our cake and drank our coffee quickly and left! The young staff on the other hand were very pleasant and helpful. Perhaps one of them should become the manager!

Never felt so unwelcome at a cafe. The senior waitress was clearly very cross with us for taking a seat at one of several empty tables without "having been seated". She made the point at least twice. She then told us they weren't serving food anymore, and proceeded to clear tables, dropping things and bashing chairs around in an aggressive way. Not a relaxing half hour. Never felt my blood pressure rise so much in a cafe.

Randomly stopped at this little place to grab something quick before meeting up with some friends picked a sticky looking bun with pastacios on top, turns out it was a baklava bun and it was absolute fire! Loved it, sticky jam (fig maybe?) through a lovely soft baked bun topped with the pastacio nuts, would 100% go back for more as they had a load of other cakes and traybakes that also looked great.

If I was rating the interior, location, cakes and the young staff I would be very positive. All were excellent. Less good was the brusque reception from the manageress, who was quite offhand and stomped around while we were there. Perhaps it was just an off day as I see many positive reviews, but on our visit at least we as customers were made to feel like we were not very welcome.

I came for a coffee with a friend, worked for a few hours (I had previously asked about sockets and wifi) then ordered lunch. I was asked to move table which I didn’t mind although no one came to claim the reserved table while I was there. The lady who served me was rude. She made me feel as though she was not used to serving people like me (not poshly dressed, young) and made no attempt to make me feel welcome or even respected. As I was waiting to be served she pushed past me to get to the counter. The food was very good but the whole experience was so unpleasant that I was glad to leave. I’ve never left a negative review before but if you are a working person/ solo I would avoid.

We had never been to the area before and were so pleased to find this excellent cafe. We had cake (all homemade and delicious) and cuppa the one afternoon and breakfast the following day. The food doesn't just look good but tastes good. However, because it is such a nice cafe you can't guarantee a table. Even though it was busy the staff were helpful. This is one not to miss.

The usual things you expect visiting the cafe is friendly and helpful staff and good food/ coffee.. my family and I had lunch there today. We arrived in good mood, very relaxed and easy going bunch really. We were made feel unwelcome and the lady named Stephanie was particularly rude and patronising taking our order. We were so shocked by her attitude and tone of voice and we did not say anything at the time. We were very close however.. We also witnessed her being incredibly awkward and unprofessional with her young staff which made us feel even more uncomfortable. It looked like the lady who took our order was in charge of running the cafe, potentially an owner which is even more shocking. It was a real shame as we’ve been to this place few times before and felt much more comfortable served by another, darker haired lady.

We arrived as a group of cyclists, cold and wet from a long ride, we asked if we could sit inside but we're told no tables available. We ordered coffees and food, bacon sandwiches etc and sat outside, getting colder. Coffees arrived, but we're just warm, the young man serving them was really helpful and pleasant. We saw there was an empty table inside which had been so since we arrived, we asked if all tables were reserved and were met with a very rude, ALL TABLES INSIDE ARE RESERVED!! Our food took at least 30 minutes to arrive and was mediocre. The empty reserved table was not occupied until around 45 minutes after we arrived. If they had said we could have it when we arrived but on the basis we could only have it for 30 mins, we would have happily accommodated that request. They clearly didn't want us inside. We won't be returning, very poor and rude service!!

We arrived just before midday without reservation and the lovely manager allowed us to take a reserved table for 40 mins we didn’t require any longer to fill our tummies for the day . My husband chose the full English and he was absolutely delighted (ignore any previous review) he said it was the best one he’s had. I had salmon and avocado on sourdough this was delectable. We enjoyed it so much we have booked a table for tomorrow. One of Gorings little gems

The staff are so rude. We arrive we 40 mins before the cafe meant to close. What looked like the manager was packing everything up already and without any sort of greeting she said “we are not doing coffees” very bluntly, we explained we just wanted a cake to takeaway and then she continued to pack up and ignore us. We felt very unwelcome. Only one girl that worked there helped us with our order, she is possibly the only friendly member of staff in that whole cafe! The rest gave us unpleasant looks and ignored us. Very strange place, I would not recommend!

Awful service, the waitresses are very unfriendly. They stand around chatting and ignore customers. When we finally ordered we were then waiting for ages so spoke with the manager and she said she forgot to put our order though!? It then took a long time for our drinks and food to come. I ordered eggs on toast and the toast was burnt. The manager said we didn’t have to pay to our coffees as an apology, then when we payed the bill they over charged us! It’s such a shame because it could be a lovely cafe in a beautiful village.

Oh dear. I so want this place to succeed. However, having been once, we went again and this time I ordered a chicken bacon and avocado sandwich on a baguette for £6. It was worthless. The baguette was cold, actually just out of the fridge, and the filling was more or less nonexistent - no idenifiable chicken, bacon or avocado - just some kind of mush. And not much of that. The food was more or less chucked onto a litle plate, no garnish, not one crisp, not a floret of salad - no attempt whatsoever to make this look appetising. It is abundantly clear that the kitchen staff just do not care. Our other dish, mushroom on toast - adequate but grossly overpriced for what it was and also presently as inelegantly as possible. I have eaten in lots of cafes including many in posh Cornwall - I have almost never seen a poorer sandwich and presentation. I note that many other reviewers have had a similar experience and clearly no lesson has been learned. We shall not be returning until the place reforms.

They make such a song and dance about making a reservation when there are empty tables, we actually made one for a change in order to be able to eat and drink indoors, in our local caf, but as expected the welcome was disappointing: we were squashed at the back by toilets, the “boss” saying to an underling “well you made the booking” and abandoned her to it. Food is good, if a bit calculated portion wise. The generosity of spirit and welcome is entirely absent.

Tale of two halves this one. One meal, the burger on the specials list was very nice. However the sandwich was bland and the bread was very rubbery nearing stale. The second portion of chips to go with the sandwich never arrived but was initially still charged for them. Was told it’d be refunded but still waiting on that. Service was icy and very hurried. Lots of other nice places in the village I’d go over this one.

Sadly not the best experience. For a full english breakfast we got half, yes you saw that right, HALF a slice of toast which at £11.50 each borders on the mean side. Overall it was good food well cooked, although streaky bacon is not to our taste. Didn't match up to the nearest establishment for roughly the same price. When we came to pay the cashier asked for £37, which we queried 2x breakfast @ 11.50 =23 2xlattes @ 2.50 =5 making 28pounds. I also had a pot of tea which I don't know how much it was. Our server (manager?) came over and adjusted things on the till, when I tried to say we had not had extras, she quite abruptly asked me to let her talk to her staff! We ended up paying 34 pound something (husband can't remember) which makes a pot of tea £6.00!!! I wanted to go back to query it but husband said to leave it I have emailed the cafe direct but had no response.

Visited this afternoon on lunch break hoping for a quick bite to eat. Sandwich's and cake only , which is fine. However, the sandwiches are so thick and dry it took a while to eat, and wasn't very enjoyable which was a shame. Defo needs to be improved, a salad or a few crisps would be nice on the side also. The cake is lovely and fresh though, so recommend for tea and cake. There is a strange smell in the cafe, I don't know if it's from the toilet but not very pleasant when you are eating in. The decor and seating could be improved, for a more cozy feel.

I am disappointed to say that after visiting today with family to grab a baguette it has made us re evaluate if we would return. We had Brie, bacon and cranberry baguettes which of course I have had before. Usually a warm baguette with an abundance of warm streaky bacon and Brie but today this was not the case. Today we opened the baguette to see a light dusting of COLD and chewy ‘bacon bits’. I returned to ask if I could have bacon added as per the usual. I was confronted by a lady behind the counter who approached with an unapologetic attitude stating that it’s the normal. She referred to it as sprinkling of ‘hundred’s and thousands’ if I wanted this I would have asked for a bowl of ice cream. She was not apologetic whatsoever and when I asked for it to be changed I again just got my same baguette back with yet more cold ‘bacon bits’ added. Whilst discussing the lack of bacon in my baguette with the lady a young waitress walks past with some sort of brunch dish topped with warm streaky bacon. So it seems that if you order food here it’s just pot luck if you get fresh warm bacon or yesterday’s cold leftovers that’s chopped up and ‘sprinkled’ across a baguette.

My family and I visited this cafe today to have a brunch take away. We ordered off the chalkboard menu outside, Chicken, bacon and avocado baguettes, bacon Brie & cranberry baguettes, and a granola cake bar. We were expecting warm baguettes as my daughter had enjoyed on a previous visit, however, today after a long wait , they sent our baguettes out with a ‘sprinkling’of cold tiny bits of not very nice bacon. Felt like it was yesterdays left overs been chopped up? No warm bacon baguettes today! When my daughter went back to ask, she was met with an unapologetic response from the lady in the shop and was told this was ‘usual’ standard and quoted ‘the bacon is like hundreds and thousands sprinkles’ (not what they advertise on their menu board!) Having received disappointing baguettes, my husband then went on to try his granola slice . As he took a bite, he spat it out as it had a dead fly on it. Could it get any worse! I will not be purchasing food from this establishment again. They definitely need to state that their bacon baguettes do not have a warm rasher of bacon in them but cold ‘sprinkles’ ? And I would suggest covering up cakes etc with glass domes or nets so customers do not have extra ‘bodies’ on their purchases! Really not good enough.

Arrived at 10:00 for a snack. The food is excellent! Turkish eggs recommended and the English breakfast was well cooked and huge! Outside covered seating, good selection of alternative milk-alike products - for those that care - and reasonably priced, at least for this part of the world. Having walked into Goring from hiking the Ridgeway national trail we were not sporting white Chino's and boating hats and we were a bit scruffy but I'm not sure that justified the humourless and unwelcoming attitude of the staff. Everyone has off days, maybe it was just that but happier to take our money than to give us a smile. In a nutshell; a varied, thoughtful menu and a great chef behind the scenes fronted by slightly grumpy staff. Bit of a shame.

Saliva could have contaminated the cucumber, which was also not washed! Having done a food hygiene course myself, I know how dangerous this could be. A good job I wasn't an inspector incognito!

Amazed to read the most recent review supposedly from a local as called in last Thursday late morning and found everything excellent, perhaps even too many front of house staff, who helped us select from a great range of cakes, and we had the choice of sitting outside or inside, we chose inside and had a choice of table

Sat down , waitress walked past three times , two people behind till ignored us , all of 3 feet away. Eventually after 10 mins we got up and left , still ignored. Not busy in there. Watched waitress push our vacant chairs back under the table as we walked out the door. - To the miserable gent behind the till making coffee , your in the wrong job mate. Get a job you like! Shame , we are local , won't be back.

Pierreponts is a fabulous coffee and cake shop closed to the River Thames. The staff are very helpful and the portion sized of the cake is enormous – think of sharing. Very reasonable prices and if the cakes are not cooked on site then they are still freshly baked each day. The only negative was reheating a scone in the microwave on an afternoon which may have been done to ‘refresh’ it but was not the best decision in my opinion.

The coffee took too long to come. But it was very good. And the scrambled egg was perfect - lovely and... wet! (So much better than other cafes' scrambled egg where it's so dry you can cut it with a knife!)

I actually take this cafe for granted. I’ve eaten here numerous times over the years and I can honestly say it’s never disappoints. Food is fresh , local and well presented. Staff ( especially Lynda) are efficient, and friendly. Love it !!

This is a great cafe. Really friendly staff and owners great service and fantastic food. Over three recent visits I had the Cooke breakfast which is large and very very good and the mushrooms on toast which is just fantastic.

A lovely cafe nice and homely with outside seating in a great location. Staff brilliant but the best bit was the quiche. Not sure I have ever tasted one so good. Not my favourite food but this was awesome.

Although booked for breakfast we ordered and waited just under a hour for two omelettes and a baked egg dish. It was busy but not a huge cafe, very disappointed with service and food. Omelettes were greasy and tasteless but the baked egg dish was spicy and ok. Not particularly a nice environment inside, would not recommend this cafe to anyone look else where.

When my friend and I arrived there we were taken to table (booked for us by me couple of weeks ago) only to have the owner of the business checking twice if we had the booking!!! Then we had to wait for more than half an hour for our order to be taken and almost as long for our drinks to come out-one was the wrong size, the other lukewarm. The food didn't come out together either. To finish this totally unpleasant experience I was charged for the food more expensive than the food I had!!! Shame really, I go back to this place ever since they opened it, and used to love the everything there. Now, everything is wrong!!! Somebody should teach the owner some customer service so he can pass it on his employees. Even just a SMILE would go a long way!!!

Had to wait over 25 minutes for a pot of tea and 2 cakes!! Not very impressed ! No excuse for such slow service as it wasn't that busy. Staff too busy chatting and taking selfies!! Whilst the tea was lovely have had better homemade cakes!

Went with a group of about 5 of us, ordered breakfast which did take rather a long time to come, but it was worth it, food was to die for. Highly recommend.

We were pleasantly surprised to have nice large portions of cake with our team, and they were delicious. We sat outside and watched the world go by for a while, it got busy and we moved on. Good service and prices, will visit again when in the area.

Visited late afternoon on a Saturday. I was a bit nervous there would be no cake left but there was plenty. Not because it is not busy. They seem very prepared for the popularity of this lovely cafe.

This really is a beautiful country village cafe. The range of cakes and pastries is exceptional, not good if you are trying to watch your weight. We had breakfast there one morning, which I have to say was of a very high standard.

I've heard nothing but rave reviews about this place and while it was nice enough me and my two friends were left a little underwhelmed by the selection available (3 different cakes and a couple of pieces of some tray bakes that had seen better days) and the service we received. I had Simnel cake and a smoothie but it wasn't really what I wanted - there was just nothing else. The service was slow and the servers didn't seem interested. The experience was ok but it fell way sorry of expectations. Push come to shove, I would probably go back but I've been to much better places.

You honestly couldn't hope for better food. Superb breakfasts, excellent lunches, and such a range of freshly-baked produce that you'd find it difficult to walk away empty-handed even if you've just eaten!

I’ve been to this cafe about 4 times now over the last few years and I keep returning for the cakes! My personal favourite is the Apple & Brown sugar, but when I went in last week they didn’t have any and I was devastated! So I asked them if they would be getting any more in and they specifically requested that their baker made one for me! So I went back two days later and bought three slices! And a slice of the Hummingbird cake too! They were all yummy and despite asking for the recipe the baker was staying shtum! So my search continues for the elusive recipe!

This beautiful family run pub is a little ‘gem’! It is cosy and welcoming and we held my father-in-law’s funeral reception in the lovely conservatory, which was perfect for 30 people. Alan and Wendy organised everything, which meant we didn’t have to worry about anything. The buffet was delicious including home made quiche and sandwiches and the service was excellent. Thank you Amy and Anais for looking after us all. You helped turn a sad day into a joyful family get together! Thank you Alan and Wendy.

Consistently good. Freshly cooked light meals, decent coffee and friendly service. Bike parking in the garden too. A great alternative to Riverside nearby

I Wasn’t expecting too much from a pub dinner in a rather nondescript Oxfordshire village on a Tuesday evening but I was most pleasantly surprised. The pub is very old and as such cosy and inviting. There is a good selection of draught beer served at one of the fireside tables by most welcoming staff. The menu is varied and original and prices are reasonable. One of the specials of the day was sea bass. It was as good as any top London restaurant. The 45 minute drive was well worth it and I shall be returning soon.
