Pier One in Plymouth

Breakfast lacked in quality and left us feeling underwhelmed, small portions, cold beans, mushrooms were inedible and I didn’t like that the toast was buttered for you. On a positive note the Service was good with polite staff front of house.

Atmosphere is really nice and a lovely place to sit and have a drink, serving staff disappear like they don’t want to speak to you and are always nowhere to be seen, chips came out tasting like rubber, onion rings are frozen in the middle and not fully cooked on the outside and the burger had no flavour, nothing was seasoned and obviously half microwaved and reheated.

A prime location on the middle of the Hoe with the best view of Plymouth sound. This is probably the excuse used by Pier One, to serve cheap quality food, for ridiculous prices with service that leaves you feeling like an inconvenience for having visited. I have visited at least 5 times now to give a fair chance, however this 5th time infuriated me enough to leave this review. 3 main meals and 3 drinks £64. One Pier One burger - served with no sauce One spicy burger - pretty tasty I would say though, cooked from frozen chips and not fresh mixed leaf salad clearly from a bag is pretty poor for around £16 feels like being ripped off. The last meal was a caprese salad, the waitress brought over a haloumi salad then tried to convince us this was what we ordered and that this was a caprese salad. All she had to do was say “let me go and check” instead of insulting our intelligence because she couldn’t be bothered. When we got the caprese salad, returned very quickly after obviously being thrown together and it was missing the olive oil and balsamic glaze. This is always the observation I’ve noticed here, the waiting staff always seem like they don’t want to be there. For the quality of the food, the service and the fact that it isn’t table service, the prices are frankly unjustified. Last time I’m coming here.

Our last visit. We have loved this place but the service is now so bad we just can’t keep coming. We just sat for 20mins waiting and only the inside is in use. The view just isn’t worth being ignored time and again.

Great food and amazing view, well worth a visit.

This is a very popular bar and restaurant with a beautiful setting especially on a sunny day as it was when we visited, the first thing I noticed was how dirty the seating area was, dropped food, cigarette butts the chrome table stands was filthy no one was cleaning apart from a quick wipe of a table, there was a distinct smell of onions and fag ash and this is an out door area, more leadership is needed to bring this establishment back to where it once was

My wife ordered from the sandwich menu; the Brie & Cranberry. It was supposed to come in toasted ciabatta. However it came in barely toasted white sliced bread. Meanwhile my the Katsu king prawn curry, was supposed to come with a naan bread and it came with toasted ciabatta!! On bringing this to the attention of the FOH staff. We were informed that thats how the sandwich comes (despite what the menu states) and a shrug of the shoulders when asked about my naan bread!! Food was mediocre at best (flavour, presentation wise My wife’s lager and lime came without lime For the hour plus we sat there, no one approached us to ask how the meals were. Meanwhile others around us could be heard asking for a clean glass, cutlery, napkins and condiments amongst other things etc) For a prime location restaurant we left with no desire to ever return. We will stick with The Dome or The Armado Lounge, where they take care of their clientele

I am a local. I love this place winter, summer whatever...Its a great spot. Yes, they get busy, but of course in nice weather with such a stunning location, it is bound to be. Hospitality is a tough vocation & in busy times, us the public, need to be patient & above all polite. The staff are great here, friendly, welcoming & work hard. If they are busy, we just need to be patient & kind too... I am an akward customer as I like my coffee in such a way, but they sort me & smile & chat as they make it. I dont want to name individuals, but some staff naturally know us more than others, & I appreciate the great job they do.Pier One is great, bad reviewers need to look at the whole picture, rainy days, sunny days & appreciate this 365 days a year perfect coffee spot... Thank u team, you do a great job

The coffee they make for my takeaway is garbage and they made it bad for me twice.

Was at a buffet last night. Food very poor for the money, so little to choose from apart from sandwiches and nibbles. I am gluten free which they knew about 10 days before and they hadn't arranged for this so there was nothing I could have. A few sandwiches were brought out later when everyone had eaten. I did get a refund which was good. But all that said, the place is lovely with very effective fire which kept the place warm. Staff friendly and helpful. I wouldn't go to another buffet there but will definitely try food from the menu as this has good reviews.

The service was ok, the waiters were welcoming and polite but the food NO. We had calamaris as starters n they were cooked in dirty oil , the lemon and tartar sauce it went down, we was hopeful for the main dishes but after they arrived disappointment settled, the fries on those dishes were cooked in dirty oil or super overcooked impossible to eat not even with vinager. I choose the fish and chips and only had a one bite that I spat out same as the fries it tasted soapy. Also the fries are the frozen type and the peas on the side are canned peas, so not the best taste. I had a Cocktail and was great but left as hungry as I came in. After waiting ages for our main dishes to arrive... It was a shame I didn't take pictures of those dishes, we told the waiter about it, he spoke to the manager and nothing was done about it. Terrible not going back or recommending this place to anyone.

I wanted to write a review as I have never been in a place were the food tasted so horrible and a service this bad, first I ordered a halal cheeseburger and I got a pork, and then I ordered chicken it was raw and smelled insanely fishy We only drank the cokes and barely had any of the salad, that is how bad the food and the service was, nor me or my friends ate any of the food.

I visited the restaurant to celebrate a special occasion and was very excited prior but my party and I left very disappointed. We had pre booked a table and were seated next to the window which has a really nice view. When we were seated we were not asked if would like any drinks but other people were sat after us and served before us which was disappointing. There was rubbish on the floor and hadn’t been well kept. Drinks menus were also dirty and ripped so made them hard to read. Unfortunately the staff left the door open and as a consequence the restaurant was freezing. We had to keep our coats on during the entirety of our visit and other guests had to wear hats and scarfs as it was so cold. There was a log burner in the middle of the room but I don’t actually know if it was real or just for decoration but either way unless your sat next to it you won’t feel anything but the draft from the door. Staff were okay as they wore coats the entire time but just didn’t create a good atmosphere. It is worth noting that my friends had gone in summer and they said it was amazing. The food was OKAY the katsu curry was recommend by staff but was extremely underwhelming. The curry came with boiled microwave tasting rice ( not sticky rice as common with katsu). The dish also came with naan bread which I found odd with a Japanese dish but perhaps I’m just being picky. I myself ordered the sirloin steak with mash which was actually alright apart from a hair I found in the mash. Overall wasn’t a good experience and I would never go back in winter or recommend anyone to go. I would come back in summer to see if the establishment could redeem itself. 3/10

Fantastic views of Plymouth Hoe and Mount Edgecombe

Amazing atmosphere, decent grub. If it wasn't during winter, I recon this place would be amazing with the sun up watching the sea. Food wise, the food was solid and very generous with the portion size. We ordered the katsu curry with chicken and the chicken BLT chibata. The curry was not spicy and fairly sweet with a slight tang, with a generous potion of nan and rice to mop up any remaining curry. The chicken BLT had a generous amount of bacon and a nice crunch from the chicken. With a massive portion of salad and chips on the side. The staff were very friendly and approachable when asking about allergies in the food and will check and go the extra mile, which is always appreciated. All in all, I would say it is a great place to eat, though it would be better in the summer for the ambience, with solid food and amazing staff. I would recommend visiting Pier One.

I was initially put off by the price of the sandwich but was willing to accept it because it's Christmas and I'm taking my Dad to lunch. Then I saw what we actually got for our money! Excellent value, tasty food, great service, wonderful views. Can't fault it.

Visited last Friday, when starting a few drinks around the Barbican. Shown to a lovely window seat, by very friendly member of staff, overlooking the sea, which was impressive due to the high winds & heavy rain. Sat behind thick glass, the bad weather didn't matter as the log fire in the middle of the room was light, giving comforting warmth. A few rounds of drinks, plus a couple of hot starters from the menu, made a great start to a wonderful evening.

My wife and I tried to eat something at this restaurant. We stopped eating because of the terrible service. This girl named Kez didn't let us in, she kept us outside in the rain because we only ordered 2 coffees. after I explained to her that we would order some food, she let us inside where she sat us down at an extremely dirty table, not cleaning the table, we asked her to do this, she yelled at us and said no she has no time, she said she will send a colleague of hers. when her colleague Marianne came, who behaved very nicely, we chose to leave because we asked her to speak with a manger and the shift manager was this super agitated and nervous lady Kez. Again..sitting inside..cosy and warm watching the sea. Hot chocolate cream and marshmallow. Lovely imagine a mug of it..NOT HERE You get get a paper cup , smaller than a normal mug charged at same price. Luke warm. .reason given easier to carry!!!! Do management/owners care NO ... easy life easy profit to scam the locals who support in the winter months.

Stunning location and relaxed vibes! Yeah, you can't really get nicer atmosphere and scenery. Food is pretty good to, I've eaten a few times and sometimes it's better than others. Staff all seem nice, and it's dog friendly too.

Ordered 2 coffees on a Sunday morning and had to wait over 15 mins no order came. After going back to the counter to mention we have been waiting for 15 mins the girl rudely said no I hadn't done anything for you. I had to then reorder at they didn't know what we ordered. Although when it came out it was an enjoyable coffee

We often walk around the Hoe and Barbican and have a coffee and cake here. Plenty of room inside and out with great views.

Brilliant sat by the sea on a warm autumn day. Did not eat but so seriously good looking food passed me by.

Not a good place were to eat. It felt like they couldn't manage the number of people in the restaurant even though it was only less than half full. The waitress came to see us 20 minutes after we sat down at our table to take the order. When the food came it was almost cold and not enjoyable. The silver lining of all this was the magnificient view of the bay from the balcony.

What a fantastic spot!! Food was delish, views and atmosphere superb and the staff were incredibly kind and helpful. Location is great, right on the Hoe. My friend and I ended up visiting here for lunch two days in a row on our weekend trip to Plym!! Special shoutout to the young gentleman who served us both times, didn’t catch his name. Overall very impressed and will definitely be returning x

Great location - especially on a sunny day. Friendly staff but the food wasn’t great and the place a bit grubby tbh. My Caesar Salad was £14+ for lettuce, without chicken or bacon and over £20 with. Down the road at the Barbican it’s £9.45 - meat included. Hubbie’s Halloumi Salad had no salad just sticks of breaded halloumi.

This is a very friendly accommodating restaurant. We appeared in a large family group of almost 20 and they accommodated all of us. The portions were generous, the food very tasty, fresh and reasonably priced and the staff were friendly. And the views over the sea are lovely.

Fantastic restaurant with amazing view over one of the most beautiful beaches in the UK. Loved the food, and will definitely recommend it if you are in the town.

One of the few restaurants with the best view in Plymouth. I really suggest to stop by for lunch if you are a tourist. Very good value for money. Astonishing view on the ocean. The food is really good. One of my favourite restaurants on the hoe. Fantastic service from Justina and colleagues!

Tara and the team at Pier One were incredibly helpful in the lead up to, and day of our wedding. They helped to bring our vision to life. On the day of the wedding, Tara was always checking to ensure we were having a good time and the venue set up was beautiful. We couldn’t have asked for more. The food tasted great. The DJ was amazing. The bar staff were friendly.

Excellent Wedding Venue! Our wedding on 17/08/2024 was incredibly smooth and beautiful. Pre-event planning was incredible. We had a few meetings with Monika and then Tara. They never failed fulfil our requests. The wedding packages are good but due to flexibility and excellent management by Monika and Tara, it was perfect. We requested for changing food menu due to preference of our guests. They managed very nicely to get excellent food. Wedding day was really incredible. Tara was there throughout the event with excellent management . The best part was confetti throwing party at beach. It was beautiful. All the staffs were extremely helpful and all our guests love them. Food was excellent. Our guests’ best favourite was soup. We loved it so much. I could not ask more for this perfect wedding venue. Thank you, Tara, Monika and all the staffs.

Best view ever. It's a belly up to the bar and place your order kind of place. You pay a high price for your food and they do very little to earn it. But the view... No pots of tea, only cups. Full English breakfast was only distinguished by the fact that they used actual real butter on the toast. That was a first in the two months I've been in England. For that alone I will return. 17gbps

Food was stunning, the view was stunning, the weather was stunning, staff were friendly service was quick drinks were good, atmosphere was great, absolutely no complaints, was on a date and I recommend this place and it didn’t disappoint we enjoyed it so much we went back a couple of days later with friends that were visiting Plymouth and they absolutely loved it

Perfect setting for morning coffee with family and friends.

We booked for a group of 10 on a midweek at 5:30pm. We arrived early but our table was all ready for us. Could not fault the meal or the service and the view is incredible. We ate in the glass room and a big shout out to Kezia who was our waitress. Attentive without being intrusive. This is all you want for a meal out with friends. Great food reasonably priced, good choice of drinks, friendly service. Kids menu was quality. We walked up after a visit to the aquarium so it was a 20 min stroll crossing the bridge at the Barbican. Two of our group hired Beryl Bikes from right outside the restaurant to go and fetch our vans from the car park , you can load in right outside . Highly recommend.

It was our first time visiting Pier One for breakfast. The breakfast was delicious and served to us with a very little wait time. The restaurant boasts beautiful views across the ocean- almost panoramic! I can definitely recommend!

The food was lovely and the waitress’s were very friendly and helpful, however the ginger bar man was very rude and almost seemed drunk? When we arrived we said we had a booking and he seemed frustrated and told us to “go and speak to Johnny” obviously neither of us knew who or where this Johnny was so we just sort of stood around all confused until a waitress helped us. When we asked the barman for more information on who “Johnny” was he ignored us and also said “your table is here but two women are sat in it right now sooo…” . He was just extremely unprofessional, unhelpful and quite rude. My partner and I were so baffled by our interaction with him. However the rest of the staff were amazing and we did in fact meet Johnny who was very lovely :)

Appalling service! Requested to see the menu 3 times and was refused. I understand you require people to order at the bar however do you expect clients to chase you around the restaurant just to see the menu ?

We had a lovely breakfast today, and the service was amazing. I must say Grace in particular was so attentive and made us feel very welcomed after a long journey from the North!

First time visiting here, brilliant views. Not impressed with the food, it was ok but nothing special for the price. Limited menu. Our starter was warm and then had to wait over 30 minutes after finishing our main course. Slow service but friendly staff. Would not rush back to be honest

Everything was amazing!! My kids loved the food and drinks!

The food was very delicious. We had the Sharing Platters. Many delicious med meats, very good ciabatta, and tasty chutney. We also got very good coffees. The location, the place, the views, excellent. The music was ok, relaxing but probably too melodramatic and too radio actual, but overall ok. Now, the downsides, which disappointed me deeply as I really appreciated the value that could be added, was the cleanliness of the place and the furniture, a little bit dated. Also, the chairs are so noisy when people are sitting or leaving. In my eyes this place could become a fortune, even getting so busy that customers would have to book a table, all year round. It is a small step to get there but this step must be done, I honestly believe that. But, until then just three stars unfortunately. Good look.

We took our friends there to treat them before my daughters wedding to show them where it was and what the food was like after having a lovely meal there before, however our meal tonight was extremely disappointing. Our steaks were grissly, my friends fish was near enough burnt and she asked for bread and butter not toast and my girlfriend found a hair in her food but we don't like complaining so we didn't make a fuss. Really upset because we love the view but we won't be eating there again..

Pier One is definitely worth a visit! It's a great place to relax and enjoy the seaside location. There are many restaurants and bars where you can enjoy delicious food and drinks, and the view is spectacular, so mealtime is especially recommended! There are many shops, so you can enjoy shopping and looking for souvenirs. In the evening, the view of the sun setting over the sea is spectacular, so don't forget to bring your camera! Visit with your friends and family and have a great time!
