Amazing, very nutritious and extremely tasty food! I get the unlimited salad box for £6 and it has flavour, protein, fat, vitamins, minerals, and tastes delicious. My salad box had cheese, sun dried tomatoes, red peppers, jalapenos, mango chicken, coronation chicken, lettuce, red cabbage coleslaw, tomatoes and cucumbers!! They also give a very generous amount!

Quite simply the best sandwiches around. Always well filled with super tasty ingredients and served with a friendly smile. We visit Edinburgh for a few days every August and we’re amazed that we were remembered!

Honestly, an awful experience. Next time your employees would like to blatantly and loudly insult your customers for “being on their phones too much” consider the fact that hearing these employees makes your establishment cheap and most definitely not a place to return to. And, to make it even better, the sandwich was mediocre and I have a disability, so being on phones was just while we were trying to destress and relax after an intense morning.

Agree this place has great service and lovely food but they do handle money/prepare the food without gloves or washing their hands. Unfortunately that does put me off as it is really good.

This shop is so good for food. You can fill your own panini or roll with whatever you want from their extensive list. It's so well priced - a large panini is about £3. They always have lentil soup and homemade tray bakes as well.

Lovely ladies that make descent sandwiches with bare hands + also handle the money + also clean around. I would score them 4 bubbles if in the above equation existed some gloves ;)

Great place for lunch on the move. The choices of fillings are endless and the sandwiches are super cheap. I would also recommend the soup. The service is very friendly and there is usually a queue out of the door which is undoubtedly a good sign! Perfect for students on a tight budget

Popped in late afternoon on a Friday and the lady apologised that there weren't a lot of fillings left as it was the end of the week for them, but we still had lots to choose from! We had a white roll, massive, with fantastic coronation chicken and extra salad, and a salad box filled to bursting, you just keep adding more. Traybakes looked really good but we resisted this time. Delicious and great value.

This is so much more than a sandwich shop, they have a wide range of constantly changing things, and the girls that run this shop are so helpful and are always happy to make your sandwich the way you want it. The picnic basket is one of those special places that once you find you always return to.

This is a lovely little takeaway lunch place near the University of Edinburgh. I've been meaning to pop in for quite a while, so I'm glad I finally did. The sandwich selection is large, and vegetarians are certainly adequately covered by the choices on offer. I chose a bacon, brie and cranberry sandwich (£2.80 for a regular size), and it tasted wonderful. The ingredients were fresh and tasty. Service was quick and friendly, and there are about three seats in the window if you want to sit in. However, I'm certain the place is more aimed at being for takeaway. For a quick lunch at a great price, there are very few better options. Recommended.

Truly fabulous wee sandwich shop with a superb range of breads and rolls and a really fresh tasty and interesting range of fillings! Now I'm a fussy git and I like what I like and I like it just so. Tuna mayo has to be wet but not sloppy with no dry hunks, egg mayo has to be chunky and not mushy, bacon should be hot, tomatoes should be warm to get the flavour, and if you make a toasty with cheese there should be enough to melt but not so much it doesn't! Soup should be hot enough to warm you but not so hot it burns your mouth and tasty without being salty! The Picnic Basket does it all right and with a smile and a touch of craic too! Go on a Wednesday (I think) and the mushroom soup is AWESOME! Great lunch, never disappointing and fabulous value for money!

This is definitely the place to go if you would like to get a tasty sandwich. A wide variety of choices, everything I tried was just yummy, fresh, well presented and to a reasonable price Staff is very friendly and in general it beats Subway or any other place that serves sandwiches in town.

Your typical coffee/sandwich shop which serves good, affordable 'on the go' food. They have a wide range of bread for you to choose from which is a plus point when compared to other sandwich shops in Edinburgh. Seats are limited, only 2 in fact, so avoid lunch time if you want to dine in.

I visit Edinburgh 3 or 4 times a year and found this little gem a couple of years ago - I now make sure I head there whenever I am in the City and have never been disappointed. Food always great and never a long wait, even when busy at lunch times...would highly recommend to anyone in the area!

I go here a lot because it is close to my university. The food is great and good value for money. The women who works there is so friendly, it's just the guy that I find so rude. The customer service from him is just awful, I used to visit most days and have yet to see him smile. He puts me off visiting now which is a shame as the lady is lovely.

I found Picnic Basket when looking for somewhere to eat before 7am in a squall on a bank holiday. The owner let me in early even though she hadn't gotten her deliveries yet. The place is no frills and no seating. Put the service is local, friendly, and the food is excellent. Bakery rolls with made to order eggs, bacon, etc. or if you want something lighter butter and jam. Porridge with all the toppings and freshly made scones are also top choices. I grabbed breakfast to go on the way to the bus stop every morning. Shop is open for breakfast and lunch on weekdays only. Never had lunch here, but only because were I was working wouldn't allow the trip. Lunch menu looked very yummy for fast but not greasy food.

Great music, great cider, the food is as good as vegan food gets if you are into it and still very good if you're not. Nice people

Pretty good. Very friendly staff and a nice shop connected to it where you can get fresh fruit and veg. Plenty of options including vegan. Nice options for small children too.

A traditional friendly bar. Good choice of beers, spirits and wine. The bar staff are lovely people and make you feel welcome, the locals are friendly too. Enjoyed spending time in there.
