I've always loved this place, and just wish it were in the neighbourhood where I live so I could go more often. Over the 40 years I've lived in Edinburgh, many small places like this have been forced out of business as Edinburgh has become increasingly pretentious, over-gentrified, soul-less and inauthentic. Not Caffeine. Genuinely delicious, generous food and friendly staff who clearly care deeply about the food and service they provide. Lovely, inspired combinations, like their gorgeous egg sriracha roll with cheese and onions. At my request, they added some roasted peppers at no extra charge. I'm a huge aubergine fan, and they do a fabulous roll with aubergine, mozzarella, and other gorgeousnesses. Yum And yesterday I tried their lovely Egyptian stew involving lentils, chick peas, and tomatoes. It's now going to be much more difficult to choose what to order, though I'm not complaining.

We were lucky enough to find this place yesterday...absolutely delicious. The food is cooked to perfection and its 'home' style size portions so you certainly won't leave hungry! They also have some amazing baked goods with the banana loaf being delicious (thank goodness we bought extra!!) Service was fantastic too and cafe was immaculate. We will definitely be back, even better its only around a 10 minute walk from Princess Street.

The hot daily specials are reasonably priced and super tasty. Often something a bit different - cajun chicken + slaw in a brioche bun, or wild boar hot dog for example. I have never been disappointed.

My guest house hadn't told me that breakfast wasn't included in the tariff, so I came here and sat on one of the high stools in the window. I had granola, a scirarcha (?) egg and cheese roll (yum) and a coffee. All were lovely and the owner was friendly. Recommended.

This humble place drew us in with the wonderful aroma. We walked around until we figured out where it was coming from. And then we found the motherload of delicious salads. But which one to pick to pick. No problem. We were offered a plate with a little of each!!! And each was delightful. This is the food we have been missing everyday. We did break down and get a pastie as well. Delicious. And great coffee. Wish I had one of these around the corner from me!!!

We found this nice cafe after visiting Dean Village. The cream tea we had was wonderful. The fruit scone was delicious with the generous amount of Cornish clotted cream and jam. One scone for each of us and a pot of tea was 6 pound. I would love to try their lunch menu. They looked good too. Staff were so friendly. Their location is a bit away from the tourist center but it’s worth a visit.

Illy isn't my favourite brand of coffee anyway so Caffeine would never usually be my first choice for a coffee in the area but in the last few years the level of staffing has gone downhill too meaning that in an area where you have the likes of New Town Deli, Roamin Nose and Bluebird, there really is nothing that would make you go to Caffeine

Absolutely pathetic level of customer service from the barista this morning (not the first time either...) - had a face like a slapped a*se - and was utterly VILE to me when I asked him to explain the difference between a 'filter' coffee and non-filter... I didn't realise my ignorance on a Monday morning would create such an epic reaction of indifference and agitation. He should learn to leave his bad mood vibe at the door and summon a smile from somewhere to lift his RANK humourless energy out of the gutter to work in a more meaningful customer focused way.

Decided to go here with a friend to support an independent business rather than a big faceless chain. This was literally the worst experience I have had in a café in Edinburgh. My friend and I were polite, but my friend was not feeling very well and so taking longer than normal to pay for the order. The waiter raised his voice to us and shouted at us in an intolerant and aggressive tone. I have never been spoken to like that in any café or restaurant before, and in retrospect we should have left immediately and cancelled our order, but we were quite dazed and speechless. On top of that, coffee came in a dirty cup - could not drink Avoid, avoid, avoid this place - I cannot stress this enough There are many nice cafes in Edinburgh - this is not one of them

Really enjoyed lunch here, haggis and mash with I think it was red wine sauce. Stag kept up even though it was busy during the Fringe. Only slight minus is I thought it was a little bit expensive for what it was.

I ordered medium fries with garlic mayo sauce, I asked for salt as I didn't know they salt the fries, just as well I didn't add it, they were very salty. In a medium size portion, half of them were just crumbs or tiny tiny slices, went in the bin as it just couldn't be picked with the little wooden fork. Absolutely no way for the potatoes to be hand cut. Very disappointed and will not repeat the experience.
