I'm not sure. My mocha tastes like a hot chocolate, maybe I received a hot chocolate, it's a bit overpowering.... And overpriced for my taste. Probably won't go back ☹️ However, lovely staff!

No menus on tables and without great eyesight its merely impossible to read the wall pricelist... Anyway 1 x scrabbled egg roll and 2 teas = £8... I was in the loo when she charged my mother who she didnt mention to me till i was half way down the street,,, as she knew id go back....... No pics s0z. 2vdoorvdoon 2 x tea/coff + 2

Great cosy atmosphere with awesome coffee and brilliant breakfast rolls, The Gentleman running the shop couldn't have been more kind and welcoming if he tried, really wish we stayed locally to become regulars! Pop in you won't be dissapointed

Paramos para comer mientras caminábamos y nos alegramos mucho de haberlo hecho. La comida era estupenda, pero hablar con el propietario era aún mejor. Fue muy informativo de la ciudad, recomendando lugares para visitar y ver. Sin duda volvería a parar la próxima vez que estuviéramos en la zona.

Tuvimos un gran desayuno aquí hoy.Elegí artículos de una opción de "elige tu propio desayuno" que el personal me explicó claramenteFui a huevos revueltos (2 huevos) tocino, champiñones y pan tostado con un expresso.Mi desayuno estaba preparado a pedido y estaba delicioso.El café fue fabulosoRecomiendo encarecidamente este lugar.

El biggests timo en el que he estado en toda mi vida. Tuve que pagar £2 por una pequeña porción de pan. Cuando le pregunté por qué estaba bien, me dijo "bienvenido a Edimburgo". La comida no era agradable, era ridículamente caros, y el dueño era terrible servicio al cliente.

Fuimos a restaurante para desayunar Bonningtons esta mañana. Tienen un "construya su propio desayuno" donde básicamente pagar por ingrediente (ex. bacon, salchichas, etc.). Así que pedí huevos, salchichas, champiñones, tomate y pan tostado. Lo que me dieron fue un huevo (se anuncia huevos - plural en el menú), 1 pequeño salchichas, un poquito de perritos de hongos que estaba bastante seco, algunos de tomate y una pieza de pan tostado. Apenas la mitad de un desayuno (que estaba hambriento al final) y me costó 8 libras. Cuando pregunté sobre el desglose del precio el hombre que trabaja allí nos notificó que el pan costó £2 por una pieza. Era barato pan blanco supermercado que probablemente apenas cuesta £2 para toda la pan. Y si pedimos la misma ingredientes como un bollo de desayuno, el pan sería gratis. Pero completamente illogically cobraron £2 si fue separada en un plato. . . Este lugar es la extorsión. Tuve que ir y comer otro desayuno después de esto y al menos costaba lo mismo o más que la mayoría de los desayunos.

Almorcé en Bonningtons Eaterie el miércoles y comí el panini más delicioso que he comido. Tenía boniato, berenjena, aguacate, salsa de cebolla dulce (¡y más, pero no recuerdo los ingredientes!). Honestamente, ve allí y ten uno. Cambiará tu vida.El lugar era encantador, una pequeña cafetería independiente y el propietario John era absolutamente encantador. Me conversó y me hizo sentir a gusto y que tuve tiempo de tomar una decisión en lugar de apresurarme y esperaba tomar una decisión en segundos. Excelente servicio al cliente. También hay una gran vista en la ventana delantera.Pero en serio, prueba el panini.

The "make your own" breakfast option is really good, and cheap as well. The service is amazing, nice and helpful. Perfect start of the day! :)

Excellent paninis and coffee, great view of Salisbury Crags and the Edinburgh streetlife and a very accommodating and friendly owner. Perfect to drop by after or before a walk to Arthur's Seat or the Meadows. Good for breakfast, brunch and coffee.

Had a lovely time hear chatting away to the owner. Had a black pudding and Lorne sausage roll which did the trick. Will go back!

No puedo decir suficientes cosas buenas sobre este lugar. Buena comida, buen café y John, el hombre que lleva la tienda, es el hombre mejor. Él se acordó de mí después de mi primera visita y voy bastante a menudo. Es incuestionablemente mi favorita cafetería en Edimburgo.

Took a family vacation for a few days and stopped in by chance on our way to King Arthur's Seat. What a wonderful surprise! We ordered two lattes which was by far the best coffee I've tasted. John completed the lattes table side and stayed for good conversation. He gave us some history of the city, walk recommendations, and offered us some of the best hospitality we could ask for while traveling with a baby. We enjoyed the visit so much that we went out of our way to drop in again the next day. Well worth a visit...if not for the coffee at least for the hospitality.

Fui al restaurante Bonningtons después de haber visitado mi dentista local y tenía un café con leche y dos croissants preciosa". Un fantástico café, que era rico, suave y con sabor amargo después de no.Pregunté al dueño que granos de café solía que John dijo que ellos importados de Italia. Siendo de origen italiano sé una o dos cosas sobre café y qué constituye un buen café.Me impactó una buena conversación con John, que era amable, hablador y bastante claramente un "pueblo". Gut bueno para estar en la restauracion.Sin duda volveremos la próxima vez que esté en la zona.Una experiencia maravillosa. Gracias John. Luigi.

The atmosphere of this place is amazing, great service! One of the best coffee places in town! The bacon and egg roll is delicious and defiantly the one to try , the ingredients taste fresh and not from supermarket ! We will be coming back again!

Best coffee ever. Friendly owner that gives the place a welcoming atmosphere . Felt at home and will definately return as go to Edinburgh frequently. Definately best in town and cheap. Clean and spacious shop. Lots to offer.

Great selection of food and a friendly staff, really enjoyed my 'half English' - hummous, bacon, tomatoes. Coffee could be a little frothier perhaps but I'll be coming back again for sure

John, who I presume is the owner, was so friendly! Really made my day. Great choice of paninis and a coffee that I initially disapproved of because of a lack of frothy chroma, but actually really enjoyed. Will be going there again for sure!

I used to live in this area between 2014-2015 and always found the place an excellent combination of tasty food/ coffee and deliciously affordable for my student budget. Came back today after having left Edinburgh for a couple of years and made a point of coming to Bonningtons for one of their impecable paninis. Seeing the place under new management turned out into a pleasant surpise as the new owner is exactly the person you want fussing over your comestibles. Polite, friendly and efficient, he has maintained the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere of the Eaterie while tweaking the menu in subtle but pleasant ways. I was delighted to notice the larger range of cheeses and condiments on offer and as a coffee snob, I have to give the espresso 5/5 stars. Excellent service and a quality/ price ratio that greatly favours quality. This place is great for both locals and visitors as it catteres to all and the owner goes out of his way to make you feel at home.

Lovely guy who runs it, really knows his coffee and is passionate. Even cooks you custom brekkie if you call in advance and know what you want. Really rate this place. Ask about the porridge.

What a welcoming friendly scrummy breakfast. John couldn't be nicer. We came back as he offered us breakfast ready for arrival. The bacon buttie set us up for the day. We luv it here. Another enrichment to our holiday. A must visit.

Nice place with good coffee and views. I upset the staff by querying why they wanted me to pay first. It was a perfectly ok request but I was taken aback - I complied quite willingly. They weren't too friendly afterwards. That's Scottish service for u. U have to manage the situation or hell mend u! #unforgivingstaff

I'm not one for writing a review normally, but I am all about positivity and this place makes healthy, fresh, homemade food of a high quality and all to takeaway (the coffee isn't bad either). The staff were friendly and engaging, not afraid to chat with a smile on their face. Being a driver I find it difficult to find quality food on the go that isn't a chain of industrialized generacy (not a word ;) ). But fear not you may also dine in the casual and quaint if not slightly quirky eatery. They accept payment via card with the newly installed card machine (as of today, I myself missed hand written sign in the window and had to visit the bank machine located directly across the road) so only your bankroll should hold you back. Thank you for cheering up my day.

I enjoyed my lunch here today so much, that I had to immediately log on to write this review. Bonningtons is nicely situated on Clerk Street, very easy to find. The welcome is great- staff members are friendly and chatty, and the sandwich selection is excellent. Mary had a sandwich of the day, which was a vegan sandwich with avocado, asparagus, aubergine etc. She really liked it. I had a chicken sandwich, with some salad items and cheese. Both were absolutely delicious, toasted to perfection. Mary also had a green tea and I had coffee, and those were nice as well. We were pleasantly surprised to get some free chocolate buttons with the drinks! These people know how to get to my heart.

A friend and I stopped into Bonningtons with a minimal budget looking for cheap eats and delicious coffee. We found both! There service was VERY down to earth and the food was extremely fresh and organic. We both enjoyed a soup and sandwich, which was quite filling. The panini was crispy and yummy, while the soup was perfect texture.

Fab fresh food, great choice of sandwiches and the chocolate brownie raspberry cheesecake was yummy, prices very reasonable, friendly staff

What a wonderful place to while away a morning in front of a laptop! Great coffee, fast internet, friendly banter, nice view. Stayed so long it was suddenly lunchtime; tasty sandwiches too.

Great place, the food is excellent, as is the coffee. A very relaxed dog friendly atmosphere. The staff are always a delight to chat with. Do yourself a favour, ignore the big chain coffee shops and visit Bonnintons. You won't regret it.

Decent prices, good range of sandwiches, artisan roast coffee, really friendly staff, a nice range of seating (big slouchy couches, individual table or communal bench) despite the small premises and some toys to keep the wee ones entertained. What's not to like? (Not sure it has a toilet, mind...)
