Excellent dog friendly place to stop for morning coffee. Dogs allowed inside and out, friendly efficient staff, quality coffee and delicious cakes. Lots of free parking and clean toilets. Close to Rutland Water and Oakham.

So it’s a 5 star review eh ! What’s it all about what makes this a 5 star review … a few things do. Location is tranquil set away from Rutland water but with equally beautiful views of the Rutland countryside. The ability to eat Al fresco under a umbrella or on the porch where you can enjoy the outside no matter the weather (as long as it’s not too cold or too wet ) the atmosphere is just one I personally enjoy! The staff are always attentive and polite and nothing is too much and trust me I’m very particular and fussy about how I like my food cooked and prepared. Today was the fourth time I have had my usual bacon and sausage bap and it never disappoints sausage browned and defo not boiled before hand. Bacon cooked perfectly how is that you say for me the fat is rendered and crisp but the bacon still has a nice chew to it. How would I describe this bap the start of a perfect day that’s how 10/10 . My wife had sourdough toast and two varieties of jam both equally delicious and tasty the raspberry one being of note as the last part you get as you eat it is a superb vanilla note subtle but very nice. Coffee was hot as per four previous visits and smooth no burnt grind aftertaste here not too big not too little but as Goldilocks would say just right. Finally followed and mopped up with a shared cinnamon bun slice how good was this … I still think about it now yeah I’m a bit of a heaven as my wife said for using the raining raspberry and vanilla jam on it . How other have not had the same great experience we have had on four visits over the last three months I do not know but I can safely say the staff were professional and helpful there was nothing that they didn’t try to do to make sure our food and experience was not what you would expect. So my hidden gem is exposed I didn’t want to share this place but the owners and staff deserve the recognition well done Picks!!

Well I’m bemused to why this place was busy. I pulled up all hopeful but was found with a very limited menu and the first thing I chose…soup…had sold out by 1.00 leaving a selection of 5 items! I ordered the Brie and cranberry toastie with green salad and chutney. Well the green salad was a few leaves chucked on the plate and I hunted high and low for the chutney to no avail I certainly won’t be visiting again as not impressed

This cafe has been fantastic for us who live locally with good views, great location but poor management has reduced food availability, reduced days let alone hours of opening and has seen staff in my presence be treated rudely by the manager. The time has come to boycott this facility unless or until management changes. What a shame!

Excited to visit Picks Barn for a Saturday morning breakfast, had investigated website. Great venue and space thoroughly pleasant. But wait! No full breakfast offering! No way! It's now not available despite appearing on the website menu over a week later. We'd gone specifically at the weekend as the sample menu says full breakfast and vegetarian breakfast available. We were told that the owners made a decision not to do them. Hmmm, it will be over to Rutland Nursery for us then for future visits to the area, you're assured of a full and meaningful menu.

First visit here and loved it! Welcoming and friendly location, beautiful view and great food menu. Certainly delivered in quality. Best thing was the attentiveness to customers’ needs in terms of dietary choices and finishing touches. Great food but even better coffee! We cycled a 70 mile round trip for this and would certainly recommend it to anyone. Can’t wait to return!

Superb cafe, serving wonderful open toasties, like Smoked Salmon on Mustard Mayonnaise with Capers, on Sourdough - heaven, wonderful coffee, and caked to die for! Excellent spot for a chat and a catch-up. Steph and her staff are brilliant, friendly and very accommodating - 5 stars!

A truly delicious lunch, all our food was well presented, tasty and on hot plates. Two of us enjoyed the chicken stuffed with spinach, tasty sauce and potatoes, another had scampi, another gammon. Very friendly waitress, Sharon, who had time to talk to us and offered a great service The pub offers a wide menu and specials of the day. It us situated in the middle of the village and just off the A1. Free parking on site, with tables outside as well

The Wheatsheaf in Oakham is a traditional pub with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Dan and his team always go the extra mile to make you feel at home. They have a great selection of real ales, including guest ales that change regularly, as well as a menu of fresh, home-cooked food. Whether you're stopping by for a pint or a bite to eat, The Wheatsheaf is a great choice.

Had an awesome roast dinner here today. Sharing platter which easily fed 2 adults and 2 children (with leftovers for two hungry and knackered dogs!) The meats were cooked to perfection and the veg was packed with flavour. Lovely presentation. Will definitely be back.

Visited on a trip to Oakham. It's Caffe Nero so you know what to expect but it's cosy with nice coffee. Only downside for me is that it seems to be one of the branches that allow dogs. And there were quite a lot squealing and clip clopping around on the wooden floors. Price you pay for being deep in the country I guess.
