Upon arrival we were welcomed and shown to our seat. Water was brought to the table with glasses and ice however on closer inspection the bottle had black mould inside at the bottom and the sides of the bottle inside were not clean. The menu was very basic and disappointing compared to what was showing on the web site. We chose the leek and potato soup and chicken and chorizo croquette. The soup was bitter and had been over blended so it was gluey and not very nice at all and the bread which was served with it was black and tasted burnt. Croquette was ok although the balance was out. Mains were roast beef and roast lamb. The meats on both plates were a fair size portion. The carrot was a little hard, the half a roasted shallot pointless as it was difficult to get to the parts of the onion which were edible. The roast potatoes and yorkshire pudding were fine. The stuffing nothing special just tasted like a packet sage and onion mix. The cauliflower cheese was rock hard couldn’t even cut it in half. The panache of veg ok but would much prefer them served separately. Very under whelming. We asked for the bill which was £49. The server brought the handset for us to tap only to get home and see she had charged us £51 plus we had already left a tip so really annoyed as would not have left a £7 tip for the rubbish we were served up

So pleased we found this little bakers while on a visit to Monmouth. The Cornish pasties are excellent, plenty of filling and just the right amount of seasoning. Were able to sit outside, with our dog, and chat to the friendly locals at the next table. The staff were great to :) Would definitely visit again if in the area!

Lovely Irish landlady was extremely accommodating to me & my two boys.. Service was how service used to be before the big pub chains took over everything… Food was brilliant.. Had to have the bread pudding as haven’t had it since I was a kid.. took me right back! Definitely recommend and will return 👌🏼

Visited this afternoon, lovely welcome from staff, food and atmosphere was excellent. Planned music evenings which we plan to attend! If you come to Abergavenny visit the Vaults. We are locals and we loved it. Plain and simple menu with reasonable prices. Wonderful chips
