Pickled Pantry in Kingston upon Thames

Visited as reviews were good but very overpriced for the portions. We recently moved to the area and were hoping for this to be our regular breakfast spot as it has gluten free options (these turned out to be very limited) The service was a little slow but very friendly so we were hopeful however, when the food arrived it was very small portions for the pricing! Shame as it’s very near to where we live.

Things change. Paid 13 pounds for three small pancakes with some fruit and a cup of coffee. Shocking. Some businesses may never go back to the ways they were before Covid.

Lovely little cafe in Surbiton, coffee and food was spot on!! Friendly service and very accommodating of a gluten free/ dairy free diet! Will definitely come back!

I've been going to this place for quite a while but based on my visit today, think it's gone downhill a bit. Neither the food or the service was very good and I won't rush back.

Best flat white coffee I’ve had since leaving New Zealand two months ago. Proprietors Steve and Ema know what they’re doing, they’ve created a good vibe cafe that makes you want to linger, and the menu is fresh, healthy and made in-house. Great discovery, we will be back!

This is a great little coffee shop cum eaterie close to Surbiton station. Friendly and helpful staff and, overall, the place had a good atmosphere. a great place to pop into if you want a quick coffee and a nice bun.

Great personable service with fresh food prepared with care. My favourites are the toasted gluten free banana bread, with cinnamon butter, vegan breakfast and the loose leaf spiced masala chai tea with oat milk. Indoor and outdoor seating at the back.

What happened? The last time we went for breakfast it was wonderful. Great food & great service. We went for breakfast last Saturday morning. What a disappointment. Found a table ourselves. We sat for 25 minutes before we were served our beverages. Had to ask for the table to be wiped. Suzannes knife wasn’t washed properly. Had to ask for a clean one. People had arrived after us & the service took their orders before us. Suzanne made a slight point by going up to the counter for menus. I think one chap had the right idea. He went straight to the service counter & placed his order. Needless to say he got his food before we did. Shouldn’t he have been asked to take a seat before taking his order? Eventually got our food after being there almost 50 minutes. Coffee was good. I ordered a bacon sandwich with a side of sautéed mushrooms. Suzanne order eggs Benedict. My bacon seemed like it had been cooked for ages. Rather dried out & a bit fatty (the nature of bacon to be fair). My white bread was a tad ‘claggy’. Should have gone for sour dough maybe. Now, I could be wrong, but I thought the mushrooms weren’t fresh. Pretty sure they were tinned. Yuk! Left quite a few of them even though I was hungry. Suzanne had issue with her eggs. Rather ‘snotty’. Yes, I know, we should have sent them back but we don’t like to create a show. So, all in all, service poor & food not great. We could only think that comparing the two breakfast visits could only mean a change of hands / chef. We won’t be returning.

Just wanted a lightish bite before the ramble. Homely decor, friendly staff. Plenty of choice of various portion sizes. Not veggie myself but chose a sandwich with veggie filling. Really delicious as was the cafe. Appreciated the water provided as well.

I went here thrice with my boyfriend and we both loved the vibes of the cafe. is cute and the staff is really welcoming. the food is really yummy and tastes fresh. we also had hot chocolate that I really recommend. In all the cafe is a must visit!!!!!

This is the only place I come to for my Rooibos tea. It is purly devine tasting. If you love Rooibos tea then you def need to come here. Its organic and the ever so friendly polite staff listens to how you like it made. I am not sure . The food is good too but they never seem to have carrot cake anymore.

I expected much more when I visited The Pickled Pantry. With so many coffee / brunch spots in the area, I decided to look at reviews to decide which one to visit. Needless to say, I cannot understand how this place has received so many positive reviews. In a nutshell, it is very expensive for tiny portions. The sourdough bread is thin and lackluster, very stingy bacon portions, and I genuinely still felt hungry after a very run-of-the-mill eggs benedict. Many places do a much better eggs benny for half of the price. Also, the interior is cramped, stuffy and uncomfortable in every aspect. I'm sorry to be so negative but I felt the need to write a review which reflected my experience after it was the reviews that lead me to this spot in the first place.

Wonderful place with a great garden tucked away at back. Fabulous food, great service and just overall a gem of a place. Gluten and dairy free options a plenty and the best banana bread we’ve ever had.

Went here for coffee and decided to order lunch. Needn’t had bothered, our lunch order wasn’t placed so we were sat there waiting for nothing! Not much of an apology from the guy with the beard behind the till. This place was once great, seems to have gone downhill.

Great pastries and coffee & a good selection of cakes on display. Staff are fast friendly and efficient. Also has a loyalty card!

Whether dining in or taking away (in this new "normal"), the quality is exceptional and the staff are wonderfully friendly. It was our favourite cafe before Covid-19 and has been our saviour since they were able to offer takeaways during lockdown. Go on, treat yourself.

Went with little ones and the staff there were extremely nice and found us a table by rearranging slightly so that we could all sit around the table together. The food is a amazing and the kids menu has a lot of options, personally would recommend and their is a beautiful outdoor garden sitting at the back.

I’ve been coming here for years. The food is always fresh and good quality, with plenty of healthy options. Staff are all lovely and it has a great vibe / atmosphere.

Love the Pickled Pantry! Great breakfasts, lunches, coffees and the pancakes are an absolute winner! Sure they don’t do fried eggs but that adds to the quirks and character of the place (plus the poached eggs are a triumph!). Tony and the team are always so so lovely and the fact you can find yourself in a queue waiting for a table shows how popular it is. Whether you have time to kill before a train, catching up with a friend or just need a break from mooching around Surbs - pop on in! Nothing is too much trouble for them and my man and I regularly indulge in delicious takeaway sausage sandwiches if we are off on a long drive.Do it!!

Great menu, lots of choice for those with special dietary requirements. Beautiful coffee and a very friendly atmosphere - would highly recommend. Meant to take a photo but the bacon and leek hash with poached eggs was far too delicious!

I can understand why this café gets good reviews, it has always been an excellent café ... however.I tried to order a bacon and egg sandwich to take out this morning: they don't do fried eggs (???) ... they offered 'scrambled eggs' as an alternative, which turned out not to be scrambled eggs but a pale yellow microwaved foam rubber. This REALLY let's down what is otherwise a great café.

There is a reason this place is so popular.Excellent service and the food is delicious. Plenty of options for everyone. I am a meat eater but even I get tempted to the veggie breakfast.Only seconds away from the station, this place is a need to know gem of Surbiton!

A lovely little cafe in the heart of Surbiton. There is plenty of cafes around Surbiton to choose from and we’ve tried many. This one has become a favourite due to its consistently good food and fantastic, friendly service. Highly recommend.

Come here every time I visit for brunch. Great brunch, especially for vegetarians and vegans. Wide variety of food and the cakes look delicious. Reasonably priced considering the area.

I stumbled across the Pickled Pantry last week and found it a great cafe for lunch and coffee, so good in fact I've been back now 4 days in a row including breakfast twice on the weekend with my toddler. The food is great (make sure you check out the specials board) and the service is incredible. Definitely worth a visit or 2!

Delicious sandwiches & scones (freshly made apparently) with tea & homemade lemonade. Waiter very quiet, obviously not in a talkative mood when we went. Made it slightly uncomfortable,, but overall would not put me off from returning

I visited Pickled Pantry yesterday for breakfast whilst I was waiting for some repairs to be done on my car. I don’t know what they do to their scrambled eggs to make them so delicious but I’ve never had eggs like them before.

Vast choice in the menu. I move their full breakfast. It's so fresh and the tomatoes come on the vine. Wide choice of teas and coffee. Also great looking cake on offer. Does get very busy though, with some seating out the back.

Drove past looking for somewhere nice for breakfast and this place delivered! Lots of locals walking in and 5☆ hygiene rating so thought it might be good. We had a full pantry and a vegan breakfast, both absolutely delicious. Americano coffees were yum too. Nice touches like water on table, clean bottles of tomo sauce, vegan butter. It also has a small garden, clean loo and space for changing babies. Very impressed, would go again for lunch!

We've been in Surbiton most our lives and only stumbled across Pickled Pantry as we ordered our wedding cake from them... But wow, what a find. A super cute, decent sized cafe, with delicious food served by friendly staff. The white pudding is to die for and the chorizo scrambled eggs was incredible. A choice of toasts (not just white or brown!) is also a really nice touch. You are our new fav.

My favourite restaurant in London since I first came here.And it's luckily close to my place. Everything is fresh and delicious and the staff is more than lovely. The man waiter has my heart,he's the sweetest. They know how to treat customers,they are all happy and smile all the time. Good job! Will definitely keep coming

A warm greeting on our arrival signalled that this coffee shop got the simple things right and so it proved. Water on arrival swiftly followed by our coffees - both were excellent (flat white and a latte). We came for breakfast and the friendly, efficient service resulted in a berry yogurt and full English arriving shortly after. We appreciated the generous serving of marmalade to accompany the wonderful sour dough toast plus quality tomato and brown sauce. Our breakfasts were equal in quality to any that we have had. This place could easily become a regular haunt if we lived 150 miles closer!

We visited this cafe for the first time on Monday and we were not disappointed! I ordered the pancakes and wow they were amazing! Fluffy and with the most yummy fruit compote with a little jar of syrup!

I was visiting my son last week who lives in Surbiton & we went two mornings for lovely food & coffee . We sat outside in the sun at the back & it was so lovely & peaceful.All the staff were very helpful;polite & friendly . Can’t wait to go back next time I am in Surbiton .

Located near the Surbiton rail station, this little restaurant is a gem for breakfast. Great coffee. Attentive table service, We had sourdough toast, scrambled eggs, poached eggs, yogurt, and berries. Breakfast arrived quickly. Staff were very pleasant. Great place.

We went for a relaxing Sunday breakfast, and had the pantry breakfast which was really good the sausages and bacon are definitely high standard. My daughter had “eggspreso and soldiers” effectively a soft boiled egg and dippy soldiers without the shell. She loved it and is already talking about going back again!

I visited for Sunday morning breakfast. Their buttermilk pancakes are second to none and better than any I have tasted in the USA. My partner had Chorizo Hash. Excellent service with a smile, very reasonable prices. We sat in the sun in the garden and it was the perfect Sunday morning breakfast. Certainly the best in Surbiton, possible the best in Surrey. I shan’t be having my Sunday breakfast anywhere else.

What a fantastic friendly little cafe. Try and swing in for breakfast of lunch when I have passed and on each occasion it has been lovely. Breakfast was speedy, hot and tasty. Lunches have been different to your normal cafe, very tasty and fresh. Smiley and friendly staff. Been here a few times and look forward to my next visit. Clearly a popular place as it gets busy.

Very good food, amazing salads and trenches which you can share. They do excellent coffee! Staff is friendly and helpful. The place is dog friendly! Only one minus is reheated scones on weekends.

Was looking forward to my visit after being highly recommended by a friend and it’s safe to say I wasn’t disappointed. Visited around about midday so was busy but didn’t feel stuffy. I ordered the chorizo scrambled eggs with a side of spinach, it was no thrills but very yummy. Not a huge menu but still something for everybody. Friendly service with a smile look forward to my next visit.

We have been coming here every Sunday for about 2 years! Since my last review my feelings towards Pickled Pantry stayed the same: absolutely love this place. Food, service, coffees - everything is on point. And this weekend they’ve introduced the most scrumptious peanut butter brownies (kudos to Eleanor). Delicious!

We visited the Pickled Pantry around 9am in the morning for breakfast - we missed the early morning rush and were able to grab a table right away. The staff were very friendly and greeted us upon arrival. It was warm and cozy inside and we thoroughly enjoyed our coffees. We also ordered the pantry breakfast and eggs on toast - the meal arrived promptly and the food was of a high quality (even the toast was hot when it arrived at the table!). Overall a great local cafe and worth a visit.

I went for brunch with a gluten and dairy intolerant friend and the staff were so accommodating. We were sat really quickly, despite the place being really busy. We ordered the chorizo hash, which was delicious, although very rich. My friend had a veggie breakfast, which she said was great. Would definitely recommend!

It certainly makes a change to find somewhere that isn’t a chain. Filled with home made goodies, breakfasts and even doggy treats this is a homely place to come for coffee. Not cheap and very surbiton, but beats the regulars.

Always so good! Never feel like had a greasy bad meal, always look forward to coming. If had a better job would be here EVERY WEEK! Love it!!!!

I had the full English breakfast here and it was brilliant. I would have preferred house beans instead of mushrooms but they were good too. My friend had the chorizo eggs and was similarly delighted. The coffee was excellent too. I thoroughly recommend this place.

A friend and I went to Pickled Pantry for lunch on Tuesday. We had to wait a couple of minutes to be seated as it was so busy but worth the wait. As soon as we were seated we were offered drinks. Great coffee! We both chose the trencher for lunch, open sandwich with loads of salad, I had extra avocado and bacon on mine, delicious! Will definitely be back when I'm in Surbiton next.

We have visited The Pickled Pantry in Surbiton twice and we are still not very impressed with their breakfast, which is a shame because the staff were okay. The eggs, as an example, tasted vinegary, watery and their eggy goodness leeched out of them rendering them tasteless. I have had different types of eggs in my life and I don't add any seasoning on my food so that I can taste the true flavour. However, this took blandness to a new level.

We went there for a quick lunch and really liked it. They offer sandwiches, soups, salads and quiches among other things. Their cakes are lovely and taste homemade and have a nice flavour and the staff is very friendly. Depending on what you choose the portions can be a bit on the small side, which can both be good or bad depending if you want a light meal or if you have a big appetite.

Been here a couple of times and really rate this place. It’s easily the best coffee in Surbiton, the breakfast selection has something for everyone, the prices are reasonable and the staff very friendly..

We went here a number of times for brunch with some visitors from America. The waiting staff were relaxed, friendly and helpful. There was a lot to choose from with great vegetarian and vegan options. The choice of delicious full breakfasts was great although my favourite was the smashed avocado with poached eggs. Good coffee, large selection of teas and a lovely atmosphere. Quite busy but never too noisy and we were never rushed from our table.

The café has friendly helpful staff and a surprise sunny courtyard. We just had tea (great selection of teas) and next time plan to eat here because the menu is interesting and the food looks amazing. The atmosphere is really good like a traditional café.

We enjoyed a lunch here, the coffee was excellent and the sandwiched fresh, large and very tasty. We decided to have a brownie and milkshake to finish off, all delicious. The only negative is the cost is a little high, but then you get what you pay for! Will be back soon when feeling like a treat.

This is a great place to meet for a relaxed work meeting and the service is excellent. I was delighted that you can run a tab at a table just for coffee and diet coke. No pressure but great service when you want it.

My wife and I and our three young children aged 7,5 &3 thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast at the Pickled Pantry recently. It’s not the first time we’ve visited and from our experience I’d say it is consistently great. I love the PP breakfast- but I order extra sausage because one of my kids always pinches one! They enjoyed pancakes and croissants. Smoothies were amazing too. The staff couldn’t be more friendly. Recommended!!

What a delightful find .We sat in the garden ,so relaxing .Only had time for drinks ,they were delicious .Reasonable price too.What impressed me the most was as soon as we sat down we were given water ,too often we have to ask but not so here .A little touch that makes a lot of difference .The young man that served us was charming ,could not have mad us feel more welcome .We won't hesitate to return or recommend .

This little café has only a few bare tables, so you may be asked to share. It provides coffee and cake, breakfast or brunch. It is not normally open in the evening, but occasionally there is a supper club event. What marks it out is the trouble that the young owners of the business have taken to provide food that is simple, but of high quality - so that even a breakfast of toast, marmalade and coffee, which I ate there recently, was an enjoyable experience - despite having to queue at the till behind commuters collecting take-away coffees in order to pay the bill. Probably the best place in Surbiton for a quick bite.

The place is really nice, can be very busy at times. They have a small garden at the back. Food is really nice, especially cakes and scones (recommend cream tea!). Staff is always friendly and smiling. They change my coffee to late when I mistakenly ordered wrong drink without any problems. The only minus: no air condition (ornate t doesn’t work) and sometimes is really hot. Definitely we will be coming back.
