Piccolo Mondo in Southampton

Lovely authentic Italian restaurant with a few seats inside. Best to reserve a table to ensure you get a place. Fully recommend the handmade pasta with very delicious spices and herbs. The pizza garlic bread was also amazing, and the service is also lovely.

We were a family of 8 - 4 adults and 4 teens eating at 4:30pm.... I selected it because of the 4.9 star Google rating.... The staff are friendly. The layout inside is very constrained and small. We were sat on a long table by the door which was drafty. The noise felt very loud in the small space with diners packed tightly. The garlic bread was Delicious light and spongy sourdough. The 7 pizzas we ordered had the worst pizza bases I have ever eaten. They were like hard, brittle bits of pastry with the topping sitting ontop. It was the 27th Dec - So maybe they had bought in frozen bases but even Icelands own Pizzas are way better! The worst pizza I have ever eaten which was very dissapointing.... so avoid these. However, my wife's Milanese was delicious and the salad superb. We had to ask for water multiple times and getting the attention of servers was not easy. Kids enjoyed the deserts. Cost came in at £335 - £42 per head included a 2 x single scoop icecreams, 2 x deserts, 7 pizza, 1 chicken Milenaise, 1 bottle Prosessco, 3 beers, 4 soft drinks. It is clearly loved by locals who I did not see ordering pizza - Definately avoid the pizzas and go for the wide selection of other dishes. In hindsight I wish I had gone for Pizza Express or other chain but was swayed by the high Google ratings. Disappointing.

We came here for a birthday meal and had a really lovely time! Food was excellent, really friendly service, great ambience. It was busy but didn't feel overcrowded and we didn't feel rushed at all. A bit of a hidden gem just tucked away from the main streets! Would definitely come back!

We visited Piccolo Mondo last Friday to celebrate my wife’s birthday with her parents, and it was absolutely wonderful! This charming little restaurant has been a favourite of ours for years, and it never disappoints. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with an authentic Italian charm that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a cosy trattoria in Italy. It’s not flashy, but that’s part of its charm—intimate, friendly, and perfectly inviting. The food, as always, was delicious! Every dish is clearly made with care and attention to detail, and the flavours are just incredible. The service was attentive and well-paced, making the whole evening feel relaxed and special. We can’t recommend Piccolo Mondo highly enough—whether it’s for a special occasion or just a quiet evening out, it’s always a joy to visit. Thank you for making my wife’s birthday so memorable!

Quirky little gem, pff the beaten path. Fresh Italian food, cooked to order - lots of choice and very accommodating of personal food choices, need a wants. The establishment is small, so advise booking a peak times as the quality means that it is very popular.

I had dinner with my friend. We really enjoyed the food and service. Its the most delicious and authentic Italian food you will never forget. We had garlic bread, bruschetta, melanzane aubergine, margarita pizza, pollo pesto, alforno pasta and lasagna. Highly recommended.

It was our first time here, we found the restaurant through Google- top rated and decided to give it ago. And I am so glad we did, the atmosphere immediately was lovely, it was a cosy and intimate restaurant, the staff were incredibly friendly and the food was 10/10. Couldn’t recommend them more and we will definitely be back!

Seven of us dined at Piccolo Mondo tonight and all of us thoroughly enjoyed every dish we had, clearing the plates of three courses each. The fries were a favourite between us, so unbelievably crunchy in the best way. The young brunette girl serving us was fabulous, she was very attentive and helpful with everything! Well done to her!

Authentic family run Italian restaurant with a lovely genuine Italian vibe. Had the Penne al Forno, small garlic bread with cheese, and a small Peroni as a quick meal whilst waiting for my daughter's train. Probably the best Italian meal I've had in ages. Will definitely bring the wife here on our next trip through.

Second time visiting this restaurant and have had a wonderful evening on both occasions thanks to the wonderful hosts and marvellous chefs. Incredible food, authentic and comfortable atmosphere and attentive service. 100% recommend to all :)

Visited after after going to The Mayflower. This is a cute little place, it may be a small but the food that they produce is brilliant, would definitely recommend booking as it was busy.

Hidden gem tucked down a side street. The competition on the Main Street was empty. Piccollo Mondo is a small, family run authentic Italian. Large menu, delicious food, charming service and a great wine list. Nothing not to like.

Small but authentic Italian restaurant. The food was delicious. Amazing focaccia with beautiful olive oil to start (sometimes the simplest things are the best), and the sticky toffee pudding was exceptional.

The food was fantastic, the service was good although they perhaps struggled because the restaurant is quite small and compact. We will be returning because the atmosphere is fantastic, and the food somehow even better.

Excellent little restaurant tucked away in a side street. We both really enjoyed the food and the waitress was very pleasant. Nice wine to go with our food.

We visited ad hoc (without reservation) which really was not the best plan considering the size and popularity of this lovely gem! However we were greeted warmly by the waiter (Ross) and politely explained we could use a pre booked table to a certain time this was perfectly acceptable to us. There was already a few diners enjoying their meals which smelt divine and certainly puts you in the mood. After ordering our starter came out from the smallest of kitchens very promptly, followed by our main meals which were piping hot and delicious. Ross our waiter caught on that the reason for our impromptu visit was to celebrate my birthday! So I was pleasantly surprised when happy birthday music was put on and the whole restaurant sang then being presented with a dessert with a candle ‘nice touch’ If you are craving that authentic Italian experience this is the place to go! Well done Carmo (lovely manager) and Ross our waiter can’t wait to return again this time I will definitely book ahead

We have been going to Piccolo Mondo for years and always loved the small local taverna atmosphere. We have praised them for their gentle and reasonable approach, lots of room to enjoy a meal and reasonable prices. A bit of a local Restaurent in an Italian town. Menu and prices predictable and always reliable. But now they seem to have been taken over by the 'greed chain'. Hardly enough space to sit, stuck in a table in the kitchen, with young waitresses who just do not understand the ethos. Bung you are in and bung you are out. Prices are almost double previously and nothing better evident. PM have lost the plot, they are taking the preverbial and have lost and will lose more of the regular steady local trade. A great pity, they were very good but they have blown it. RIP

Booked this restaurant by chance to have my birthday meal with friends and I am so glad I did! What an amazing place, great food, great atmosphere and nothing was too much effort for the staff. Considering there were 14 of us on a Saturday lunchtime they didn't ask for a deposit or pre-order. All the food turned up together, hot, perfectly cooked and so so yummy! This restaurant might be tiny but certainly mighty in every department! Thank you so much and we'll definitely be back!

Visited after seeing it was the "best local cuisine place" on Reddit. If by cuisine, you mean terrible food, sure. I have had better pizzas from Lidl. I've eaten bits of cardboard which have more flavour than the pizzas from here!

Piccolo Mondo truly exceeded my expectations. I visited on the 20th of July to celebrate my birthday with my girlfriend, and the service was impeccable. The staff was delightful and attentive throughout our entire visit. The ambiance upon entering was charming and authentic, even on a bustling Saturday afternoon. I ordered the lasagna, while my girlfriend opted for a pasta dish. The food arrived promptly and was expertly prepared. As a lasagna enthusiast, I must admit that the lasagna here rivals even my mother's homemade version. The meal was delicious, and the Poretti beer complemented it perfectly. As someone who works in a bar, I can confidently say that this was the best alcohol I've had in a while. The complimentary dessert was a lovely touch that made the evening even more special. I am eager to return and make Piccolo Mondo a regular dining spot. I wholeheartedly recommend this authentic Italian restaurant over any other in town

A great find. This restaurant has a varied menu and serves delicious food. Friendly efficient staff and a relaxed atmosphere ensured our celebrations were a success. We ordered calzone pizza and tagliatelle a la creme. We loved them both. The service was really good and the staff were very friendly and smiley. Will definitely go again.

Amazing food, amazing staff, amazing atmosphere, amazing music and real Italian but after PAYING and saying thank you to the chefs and staff, on the way out, a lady who was sat there most of the evening and who I presume was the owner shouted 3 times in front of other customers “has she paid?!” Absolutely disgraceful! She even smiled at myself and my daughter as we walked out. Ruined the whole evening and wasn’t cheap! If you do go, make sure everyone’s fully aware that you’ve paid before you leave so you are not shamed unnecessarily in public.

I found this gem of a restaurant after flying in to Heathrow and shuttling to Southampton and searching for 4+ star places to lunch. I wasn’t disappointed at Piccolo Mondo. This place was like a hug after a long day. I sat on the patio in the sun and fresh air. The food was fantastic. Perfect spot for getting un-jet lagged. So friendly too!

What a treat. Tucked around the corner from the main road. Near to the Guildhall and Mayflower a little taste of Italy. I'm already planning a return trip.

Phenomenal food and very attentive service. Food came out promptly and was very fresh and tasty. The pasta.. unreal! We had carbonara and puttanesca, both outstanding. Finished with dessert wine and couldn’t ask for more. Southampton’s hidden gem.

Love this little hidden restaurant is super amazing, tasty massive portions good value for money. Hard to get in sometimes but call and staff will advise situation of the day and figure something out.

I have to say, I think it's one of, if not the best Italian restaurant in Southampton. The quote atmosphere from walking in, to being served, to the bill coming at the end of the meal is superb! The food where do I start, freshly cooked Italian food, Mama Mia this is superb! Absolutley amazing experience and 100% coming back soon for sure, loads more to try!

We loved our calleloni and sword fish. The meat sauce for pasta is full of flavour. The swordfish tastes divine in its salad and dressing. Must book before going, as it is highly popular. Highly recommended.

Small restaurant with a cozy atmosphere supposedly Italian - but did not taste like one at all. Pizza dough was hard as a rock and my partner was guessing that’s it was frozen due to the marks on the bottom. Tasted of nothing - ingredients were definitely not fresh and definitely not imported from Italy. Perhaps if one prefers British version of Italian cuisine it’s a place for you, but I would not come back. Service was lovely and atmosphere great too.

Another all five stars from me. The restaurant is very nice, location is easy to access. The one downside is that parking is quite limited in that area however, everything else is spot on. I would recommend to dine in for the best experience possible. The top five dishes I recommend are: 1. Cheesy garlic bread (whole) 2. Chefs Special Pizza 3. Pollo Pesto Pasta 4. Pollo Picollo Mondo chicken 5. King Prawns

Food was amazing. We went for my daughters 1st Birthday and they were so accommodating. Did a little cake with a candle and did not even charge. The waitress Tata was so lovely. Helped us with the menu and she went above and beyond to make sure we had a good experience. I would definitely recommend coming here.

We visited for a pre theatre meal on a Sunday evening. Excellent food and friendly waitress who was very helpful. Two of us had specials from the specials board, and two had pizzas. Very accommodating if we wanted to add or remove ingredients from any dish. Would highly recommend

I'm not normally one for leaving reviews - it seems we are pestered every time we purchase something these days and it does get a little tedious after a while. However, it must be something like 20 years since I last visited this restaurant and in-between-times I've lived on Jersey and had 3 different jobs! Now, having chosen to visit a restaurant I was bowled over by on my first visit and vowed to one day come back to, I have an urgent desire to actually leave a review. This restaurant is exactly the same as when I came last, two decades ago. What's more, the service and food are still impeccable. Put this restaurant on a street in Mayfair and they would be charging 5 times the price for 3 star Michelin accredited food. This little gem, tucked away in a most unassuming position is definitely worth booking a table at. Yes, booking! Amongst those who know it exists, it is generally rated their favourite and is top of their 'go-to' list when deciding where to eat out, so you will have to book, believe me! The food is honest Italian fare, freshly cooked and utterly delicious to boot. Do yourselves a favour and try this place, it is brilliant.

A true hidden gem! One of the few independent restaurants left in Southampton. I’m ashamed to say I totally forgot about this restaurant! It’s been around for a number of years. The best authentic Italian experience outside of Italy. The food was fresh and totally delicious, the service was excellent and the experience was top notch. Looking forward to coming back soon and I’ll make it regular this time. Thanks to the team, all the perfect ingredients to make a great restaurant.

Just the most fabulous little restaurant with a great atmosphere. Always very busy so would advise booking in advance. Run brilliantly by a small team, producing fabulous food and providing a great, friendly service. Our second visit, and not our last.

Sometimes you go to a restaurant regularly and you begin to forget it is special, that happened to me with Piccolo Mondo. My son goes to university in Southampton and every time I visit we go to Piccolo Mondo, as it is his favorite pizza anywhere. I’ve never had a bad meal but today reminded me how great it is. I started with the burrata special, which was incredible. Not only fresh and hearty portion of burrata, but a ton of prosciutto and great spices, so the cheese did not get overwhelming. I wasn’t that hungry so I ordered the prawns as a main, I was in awe at how many very large prawns I got. The butter/oil garlic sauce was also great, and even the salad that accompanied it was special. I’ve never been disappointed in the service, and this visit was again both friendly and efficient. I heartily recommend.
