La Tavernetta in Southampton

Visited on a Friday for an evening meal. Authentic food cooked well. The staff.were welcoming and friendly. I would certainly recommend La Tavenetta.

¡Qué gran hallazgo! No habíamos reservado, pero nos dieron la bienvenida y disfrutamos de un servicio excelente, amable y rápido, y la comida era deliciosa. Comimos pollo Penne y una pizza Quattro.

Qué hallazgo tan brillante. Nos decepcionaron en otro restaurante, así que le dieron a La Tavernetta Restaurante una llamada. No podrían ser más complacientes. Sabían que teníamos hambre. Nuestros entrantes fueron servidos rápidamente y estaban deliciosos. También pedimos pizzas que se cocinaron auténticamente y sabía perfecto. Sin duda recomendaría este restaurante y no dudaríamos en ir de nuevo si alguna vez estamos en la región de Southampton. El servicio también fue con una gran sonrisa 😃

I recently celebrated my birthday and indulged in my all-time favorite dessert, tiramisu, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience! The tiramisu was incredibly delicious, with just the right level of sweetness. It tasted fresh, and the balance of textures was spot on. I'm still dreaming about that - absolutely yum!

Love coming here. Always a pleasure with the team giving a warm welcome. Look forward to sitting at my table 12 soon :D

Second time visiting La Tavernetta for a family birthday meal - amazing food, great service and a really nice space to be in, lot of vegan options available on the menu as well which is great to see. 100% recommend the penne arrabiata!!

Lovely pizza lunch with salad. Really quiet when we went, probably due to the weather, but it had a nice atmosphere.

Great food and service. The lobster ravioli was delicious, as was the Friscati accompanying it.

Visited for a pre-theatre dinner (this is probably their main business). It was near full when we arrived but the service and food was quick. Mine was good, my wife's was a little less so. She had Bruschetta which was surprisingly bland, I had Mussels which were good. Main of cheese gnocchi and sea bass were both good (although more sauce with the fish was needed). Tiramisu was also slightly lacking in flavour, we expected a boozy kick from the sponge but it just tasted of cream. Overall, slightly disappointing for a 3-course meal that cost just under £100 with drinks.

This was the most welcoming restaurant I have been to in Southampton. The food was amazing - would highly recommend.

Delicious homemade recipes. Could tell the gnocchi and red sauce were made fresh along with the minestrone soup!

It's hard to find good food in the UK but this restaurant was a nice surprise. We had the fresh mussels, the spaghetti with cherries, prawns and asparagus, and the lobster ravioli. Everything was delicious, nicely cooked and of very good quality. Will definitely come again!

Great meal this evening, well looked after by Natalie, thank you for making a rare whole family evening go smoothly, fabulous chicken and pizza dishes, and apple pie dessert was simply devine. We will be back!

Recommended by the Italian restaurant round the corner, as they didn’t have space. This restaurant was lovely, a little under staffed however the ladies worked their socks off. Well done on good service, very good food. Would definitely visit again. The Penne pollo was fab.

This is likely the best authentic Italian restaurant in the whole of Southampton. They have a great selection of freshly made pasta, and good choice of appetisers. Their selection of cocktails is also excellent. Every time I come here the service is always amazing and the staff is attentive and can give me some great recommendations. Also, the atmosphere is really pleasant and friendly, most times the place is very lively and full of people enjoying themselves. Honestly, I couldn’t recommend this restaurant enough. It’s perfect for a romantic dinner, catch up with friends or a work event, and conveniently located in the heart of the city.

Upon arrival we were greeted by extremely friendly staff who made us feel very relaxed and welcome. The atmosphere was lovely with a relaxed vibe. Staff were attentive without being overbearing. Service was excellent and the food we had was delicious. My partner had seafood pasta and I had chicken saltimbocca. Both meals were 10/10. Definitely would go back again.

Il ristorante di italiano ha solo il nome. Il cibo immangiabile. Partirei da una pizza bruciata sopra e moscia sotto, la pasta scotta, insapore e piena di roba insensata al suo interno. Datevi a qualsiasi altra cucina ma non a quella italiana.

Highly recommend this place.. Need to book in advance for sure on a night when there is a show on at the Mayflower. Staff were great so polite and helpful. Service charge included on your bill but well deserved.

We had the most amazing lunch today. We walked in without a booking and we were looked after from the minute we walked ins the food is fresh and very delicious and the staff really do know what they are doing. Amazing fresh arrabiata, pizza and the best homemade tiramisu we have tasted.

Unfortunately, my experience was mediocre at best. The service was very slow, we (group of 6) waited for about 45 minutes for the mains to be served. The risotto pancheta I had was average, I've certainly had better. For the quality, I found it pricey. Based on the reviews, I hoped it would have been really good, but I don't see myself going again. Edit:To reply to your response, perhaps you looked at another table? I'm fairly certain the mains came at about 7 as we had very little time to eat and then leave to attend a play starting at 7:30. Anyways, all the best to your business.

Cozy, clean and a beautiful environment

Eaten here a number of times, always my go to for something to eat in Southampton. Always good service, excellent food and great atmosphere.

Such welcoming Staff fabulous services nothing was to much trouble we visited as a family of ladies with the children our table was in a great position, the food was absolutely lovely the children really enjoyed there’s to. We all said we wouldn’t hesitate to visit again would highly recommend this restaurant.

Booked last minute as staying nearby at Premier Inn (5 minute walk). Warm welcome, buzzy atmosphere. Food was very good - risotto and lobster pasta plus two delicious desserts. Service was very friendly and price reasonable given the quality of ingredients. Not the most appealing outlook on the main road but otherwise a very good experience - recommended.

Comfy atmosphere with friendly staff and amazing and delicious authentic Italian food. Our waiter mentioned that the restaurant has been running for 25 years and the food is definitely worth coming back for again and again so no surprise that it's been going strong for as long as it has. 10/10 recommend

We used to go regularly until a few years ago when the standard of food and service went downhill. After reading many positive reviews, we decided to give it another go. We were not disappointed. Delicious, authentic, Italian cooking. Staff were professional and friendly. We will definitely be returning and cannot praise La Tavernetta enough. If, like us, you stopped going, give it another go. You will definitely be pleasantly surprised how good it is.

This is a lovely little restaurant, with superb and attentive hosts, and within easy walking distance of The Mayflower, and... thankfully... the food was good and plentiful, and of good value too.

Visited for lunch a couple of weeks ago, and it was excellent. Nice atmosphere, friendly service and really nice food. Can recommend the burrata starter and lobster ravioli specials. Will be coming back and have already recommended to friends.

Visited for a meal and drinks on a Saturday. We arrived around 4pm and it was pretty much empty. By the time we left it was full, so I definitely suggest making a reservation. We had the bread to start which was pretty basic, but the mains were beautiful. We had the Bolognese and the Arabiatta Service was very good.

Very chill but fast peace restaurant. Penne Crab is absolutely one of the best I’ve ever tried in my life. Natalia’s service is great as well. Really speedy food serving timing. Will hopefully become a loyalty customer soon. Recommend.

Great, very relaxed evening dining in. Characterful decor, plenty of space for larger groups with a large room available upstairs. Food was tasty and filling. Wholesome but just lacked a little something for me (just personal preference, hence 4 rather than 5 stars for food) but would still recommend. Save space for desert! Staff were extremely welcoming, happy, friendly and accommodating. Great evening meal out.

We had a lovely meal here last night. My friends went tapas style and shared a few bits and I had calamari to start and fish pie, both 👌🏻 Service was excellent with friendly waiters and waitresses. Would definitely return and recommend, thank you for a lovely visit!

We had a great evening here, thanks to Peter's great customer service and the delicious food. The vegetarian options on the menu were flavourful and we ate well. We are visitors to Southampton, but will be back to eat here again, next time we're down here.

Really lovely place with wonderful food and amazing staff!

This was out first visit to this restaurant and we were not disappointed. Situated across from the Guildhall in Southampton, stepping into the restaurant you are welcomed by Peter. He is warm, friendly and helpful. We were seated in the window on a table for two. Peter brought over the specials board which stands on a little easel. We were not rushed to order but quickly made up our minds. We had the calamari starter and mushroom arancini, both served quickly and hot. The food was tasty and full of flavour. For mains we had the seafood spaghetti and the penne ndjua, again both dishes were full of flavour. The prawns in the sea food spaghetti were large and the portion was generous. With two courses and two drinks for £72 including service we were very happy with our visit. We should have taken photos of the food but we were enjoying it and forgot! This restaurant is well placed for a visit begore the theatre or while in town shopping. It is a long established family run restaurant and because of this it has a different feel to the chain restaurants in town. Go visit, you will enjoy the experience.

Fantastic food. Bread Dough was amazing. Had a long talk with our amazing waiter about how they make the pizza dough as it is so unique and wonderful. Very friendly service and they even offer decaf drinks, which is brilliant as often this is a struggle Highly recommend particularly as it's a family business and I'm very keen to support small business's wherever I can

By far the best place I have found to eat in Southampton. it was recommended to me and gave me a huge lift thanks to the great food, lovely atmosphere and very reasonable prices.

Went here for my Birthday yesterday and had a lovely time - the food was nice and there is a good varied menu available along with a specials board - the staff are very friendly and I would be more than happy to recommend this restaurant to anyone - thank you for a lovely time yesterday

We made a return visit here last week after several years of forgetting about it unfortunately.We visited lunchtime so was quiet the waiter made us feel welcomed we had a selection of breads to start then both had something from the special board followed by desert all the food was delicious at a reasonable price.I must say La Tavernetta will be back on the books for another visit very soon.

2 visit. Same quality food with fresh and vibrant ingredients. Taste like homemade real Italian food. I don’t know what they put in the spaghetti Bolognese. But it’s glorious. Outstanding mussels. I usually run the Southampton half marathon and visit La Tavernetta the night before the race for pasta. The service is always friendly and relaxed. The food is top notch with plenty of options for family as well as for me. The staff never seem to rest with multiple pressures and yet remain calm and accommodating with a multitude of groups. I would recommend the lobster pasta special that we had last night.
