3 stars overall, however some of the food deserves more and some less. We are on hols and I am sure we all have our favourite takeaways, even if it is in the next town of which we benchmark against. Positves: 5 star dishes. Duck in plum sauce, plenty of nicely cooked duck and a very tasty sauce. Sweet and Sour Chicken balls, large pieces of proper chicken in a ligt batter and plenty of them with a nice not to sweet sauce. Chips, perfectly cooked and good sized portion. 4 Stars: Chicken in Lemon sauce. Nice but a bit skingy with the sauce. 3 stars: Egg fried rice, ok, no egg?? 2 Star: House Chow Mein, Supposed to have mixed meats but struggled to find any other meats than chicken and beef and only a small amount among lots of noodles in a slimy dark soy sauce. Chicken chow Mein, in the same slimy soy sauce. Too much sauce in the chow meins. I would avoid the chow meins unless you like them slimy. 1 Star: Beef in black bean sauce. The beef was nicely cooked but the sauce was burnt and bitter, so not really edible. Also 1 star as no free prawn crackers on an order of nearly £50. Free prawn crackers is a given where I have had takeaways in various parts of the uk for this type of spend! First for me. Hit and miss really. Probably would not buy from again.

Excellent Chinese. The whole family thoroughly enjoyed it. Good quality. In my experience Chinese food can be about hit and miss. Too often overly greasy, swimming in stale oii- not this. every dish fresh and full over flavour.

Been here on many occasions now when visiting Sidmouth. Very helpful and friendly and food always reasonable and tastes great. Well worth a visit!

Worst Chinese I’ve ever had. Got our order wrong for starters after repeating it several times and was given a dish neither me or my family like as opposed to one of our favourite regular choices. Chips had been cooked about a thousand times. BBQ sauce was stone cold and tasted off. Chow mein was 70% Bean sprouts 25% noodles and 5% meat. Getting take out isn’t cheap and when you spend your hard earned money on a treat and get this… Just awful.

Nice Chinese / Thai cuisine. It can accommodate a large crowd, which is a big deal in Sidmouth. Most restaurants cannot. Food was great. Service was excellent. And not too expensive !! Visited twice in the three days we were in Sidmouth.

2 x Singapore fried rice noodles both burnt !! How on earth a chef can send out burnt food is beyond me !! Crabmeat and sweetcorn soup was delicious 😋 . Toilets were very tired ,dirty and disgusting. Honest review 👍 would definitely never go back 😔

Received the wrong dish when rang up to complained the man on the phone sounded uninterested and didn't even suggest a solution had a vegetable chow main with no veggies overall the food was just not enjoyable

The food here was delicious. We came here after reading the many reviews left recently. We were unfortunately the only people to be eating in. There were however lots of people getting takeaways.

Made my order,paid in full and did not receive what was paid for, when I called to enquire, I was told I have to pay for it. Is this good service! I was asked if I ate the food I said yes I've dished out some of it to eat. Is it a low for restaurants to take back for when delivered? I would not think so. I was not expecting an refund but at least to send me the extra of what they had left out of my order without any extra charges.

Crispy Beef with chili sweet sour sauce is very delicious. I love this place for dinner time.

The chef in that spot is very experienced, I enjoy a lot eating all their dishes. The food is consistently of high qualtity

Booked here tonight couldn't get in as there were steps and I had a wheelchair. Restaurant totally empty apart from three children who said they couldn't get me an adult stayed there for a while, Noticed how unclean the entrance to the kitchen was. Decided to give it a miss!

Absolutely awful, food is terrible, staff are very very rude, it's not worth going. They do not rectify there mistakes in the food, absolutely terrible, shall never visit again. BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have been using Phoenix for as long as the Saturday takeaway tradition 10 years ago. The quality and the items missing in delivery just kept on getting worse. Today is our final ever order with them.

Visted tonight, read reviews before hand but thought lets try it. Starters and crispy duck excellent our crispy chilli beef came out with a sweet and sour sauce, but when mentioned with staff we were contradicted as they said " its the same" by one staff member, then another waitress came over to discuss issue, I asked her to take it up with manager, she went in kitchen but manager busy and would not come out and said thats how they cook it...I would have been happy to have dish re-cooked with some chilli in and a fresh rice but their option was to give the beef dish for free and 10 % off. Also no bottles of red wine in stock but when asked they let us go to Tesco to bring a bottle in. Staff not trained and annoyingly asked us is everything ok, following our complaint 2 mins before...also staff discussing issues loudly behind bar re customer and tables.

Tried this restaurant whilst in Sidmouth for a few days-food was excellent and good size portions-service was a bit haphazard as they were trying to cope with phone orders for deliveries and takeaways but all in all a good experience

Filthy disgusting place should never be ooen

Went to this restaurant 4 days ago the food was great but we would not go again because the place was so grubby and dirty in places if i had seen the toilets and kitchen before we had eaten we would have walked out the toilets especially were so dirty i was afraid to go in and did so only out of desperation i scrubbed my hands and sanitised well afterwards i was sure we would have funny tummys next day

Not covid aware. Menus were dirty and not wiped between use, drinks served by holding glass rim and leaving finger prints (so we asked for straws). Starters and main came out together! Ribs were 'scrappy bits' and dry, noodles were mix of cold & hot (not properly reheated), one main was cold (candle not lit on one end of warmer), shame that it was served on cold plates. Food below average.

Second time in a row that my order has been wrong!!!won t be using this place again

Just been for our Sidmouth fix in this wonderful little Chinese restaurant. Superb food as usual and staff cannot do enough for you. Excellent value for money, if you're in the area and feeling peckish pop in.

Everything was fresh and good quality. I would recommend this restaurant for the food and service.

Restaurant in need of some TLC but hold your horses, the food was surprisingly good and the service adequate. Worth a visit if you’re stuck for somewhere else to dine.

Had no choice to give it a star. But this place is disgusting! Ordered for the first time and last time, chicken curry which arrived looking like something my cat had just thrown up, no way it was chicken! Chips were like concrete.. basically gave them money for nothing as the food went in the bin. Poor customer service they don't want to communicate about it.. absolutely vile!!

Absolutely disgusting service. I have never experienced anything so badly organised before. Was welcomed well and showed to a table. Didn't have chance to look at menu properly before asking if we were ready to order. At this point we were the only cutomers in the restaurant. There was two staff on duty. As we ordered our food a lady came in to order a takeaway. 5 minutes later a couple came in to eat. They ordered their food. The lady that ordered takeaway and the couple that arrived after us were given their food before we even received our starters. The waitress then came with a tray of food none of which we had ordered, it should of been wrapped up for a delivery. The chef came out of the kitchen to speak to the staff about the food that was delivery but put down as our table. The delivery driver arrived and there was more confusion with orders. Eventually we received our starter which looked like the wan tons had been cooked then put in the oven to keep warm. The other couple had received their dessert before this. At this point another couple arrived to sit in and ordered. 1 hour after ordering the waitress then brought a tray and served our main meals. Which also was not what we ordered but the mains for the second couple that arrived after us. Then another member of staff came over to try and say that it was what we ordered. Eventually we spoke to the member of staff that took our order and I told her to cancel the mains as we were leaving.

Visited here with family of 5. Fish and chips offered as a lunch special which was under cooked, mushy, oily and tasted metallic. Worst I've eaten. Advised server of issue who apologised, nothing more. Other meals were bland with a thai chilli chicken being just sweet with no flavour. Cant recommend this place at all.

Had a lunch time meal here today from Plymouth with a friend had excellent meal for the price and a lovely pot of tea and excellent service will certainly go back when in sidmouth again

Food's good but the only reason I visited is because I ordered for delivery but then they called me back to say I had to collect it or collect my money because they couldn't pay it back to my account.

We've eaten here before the new owners and after and now its fantastic. We eaten in the restaurant a few times and its always be a nice relaxed environment with amazing food. We've just tried their delivery service and they took card payment and they also delivered beer which I added after I placed the first order. They got everything correct. Only issue is, they NEED a website! We happened to have a menu.

Terrible!!! Young boy taking orders and left of my wife's meal and thought it was funny also brought sweat and sour sauce that i didn't order and was charged £2 but i got that back, the young girl's attitude was im giving you 10% off what else do you expect, young kids running the place what a joke.

Food was tasty and value for money. Staff were friendly although the chairs and tables were very sticky.

Such a shame. This place has potential, and the young folk who served us were very polite, but we had to ask to order - which set the tone for the rest of the meal. The draught beer was flat and stank from 6 feet away, the orange juice was more like squash. Nobody came to check if everything was ok, it wasn't; the chicken was watery and flavourless, and borderline undercooked, the noodles tasted burnt. Sub-par all round really. I may only be passing trade, but if I return to Sidmouth (and I hope to) I'll be giving the Phoenix a miss.

Tofu was overcooked, barely any other ingredients with the sweet and sour. Vegetable curry was bland and was mainly bamboo shoots and water chestnuts. Very disappointing but served a purpose. Will not be returning

It took 40 min to get our food. When we got it it was’t what we orderd and and when we asked for prawn crackers we got chips. The service was bad too. The people that was workingthere was just talking to eachother and not asking us if we were ready to order. Just a realy bad place.

They do a two course set menu lunch for £6.90 it was excellent. The food was lovely such good value. I had honey spare ribs.The young man front of house was helpful and attentive with out being in your space all the time.
