Philps in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Best Pasty I’ve ever had. Paid £10 for 2 pasties. I had a Steak & Cheese Pasty, which cost £5.30, and my partner had a chicken pasty. The crust was genuinely good enough to eat on its own, it didn’t even need the filling. 100% will go to again if I’m in the area. So so good.

Ok but left me slightly disappointed. Too much potato & very little meat. Quite tasty though even if a little dry. I do compare all pasties to Gear farm. This pasty would be 6 out of 10 compared to Gear farm being 10 out of 10.

The pastry was good and it had a good crust. However there was hardly any steak in it and as others have commented was a high quantity of potatoe. Would not return.

Enjoyed the pasties we bought, unfortunately the staff couldn’t oblige with our initial order preferences but we took their advice on what they had left and they were delicious. Unfortunately one of our party heard the two staff describing us as odd as we left. i really don’t know what we did to deserve their ire. We were polite, spent good money and didn’t complain that they couldn’t provide our initial choices but hey ho i expect it’s been a busy day and the last thing you need is 5 happy holiday makers wanting to spend money

Great pasties as you would expect, and also gluten free pasties which were hard to track down in this part of Cornwall.

I’m a huge fan of Cornish Pasties and, with such a variety of providers in Cornwall itself, it can all see a bit overwhelming to find the best. Well, look no more, the pasties here are second to none IMHO and have maintained their high quality over the many years I have been visiting Porthleven. I always opt for the steak and my wife had the vegetable (vegan) one and both come highly rated from a taste, mouthfeel and value POV. The pastry is superb (and never gets wasted) and the fillings are beautifully cooked and flavourful - the steak variety actually containing steak as opposed to some of the “meat” you find in other inferior offerings. On top of that, the staff are friendly and attentive. Both Claire and Sally had time to chat today which is always welcome (especially these days)! Highly recommended!

Popped in for a pasty, very welcoming needed dairy free. Red hot and tasty. Recommend.

I live in Cornwall so have tried all the pasties available - Philps are the best steak pastie due to traditional content in the pastie including big chunks of steak. A large steak pastie is like a main course dinner that fills you for many hours. There is a choice of flaky or short crust outer and you can buy them to have them delivered. NOTE: These are tasty traditional Cornish pasties made the traditional way so if you don't want the real thing - then go buy a vegan/gluten free sandwich, don't complain.

I ordered pasties to bring home. Wow the staff were efficient and friendly and the pasties themselves are so so lovely - we had previously had a pastie in St Ives which was not a patch on the Philps pasties. Fabulous as ever and such helpful lovely staff. Thank you.

We had pasties from this bakery on a couple of occasions. We tried both the traditional Cornish pasty and the chicken pasty. Both were excellent. I would even go as far as saying, they are probably the best tasting pasties I have ever had.

Lovely warm steak pasty after a long walk! Two walkers I passed just outside Porthleven/Praa recommended the pasties and they weren't wrong!

Best pasties we've had in Cornwall. The large are just that: LARGE.

On every trip I make to my homeland of Cornwall, I endeavour to find a pasty I haven’t tried before. I will always order a traditional pasty - not very adventurous, I know! - but for two reasons: firstly, I love them! Secondly, it seems the only way to compare pasties with any degree of objectivity. So, on to the pasty… the pastry was side-crimped (always my preference), full of flavour and held together well during eating. The filling was perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of pepper and a good ratio of ingredients. I ordered the pasty late in the day but despite this the filling wasn’t lacking in gravy and hadn’t dried out, as is of them the case. It’s a bold statement but I have eaten a LOT of pasties so it is not made lightly. I think Philps is one of the very best!

Beautiful Pasties & Lovely staff Right On!

The pasties and other baked goods were excellent here as was the online order and delivery of a box of 6 pasties of various types for friends at home. They arrived on time, beautifully packaged and smelling delicious.

Visiting the harbour is hungry work, popped in for a proper traditional steak pasty. I was served by 2 lovely ladies who were friendly and fun. I asked if they had anything hot and one of the ladies said the pasties were warm, easier to eat now, not just out of the oven. The pasty was fantastic, just what I wanted. A proper traditional Cornish pasty (not flaky pastry) with plenty of tender steak and lots of vegetables. It was well seasoned and temperature was just right. Absolutely gorgeous. Thank you. 🙂 I will come again. 👍

Delicious pasties, and very helpful staff. We tried other brands but nothing as fulfilling as Philps. The vegetable pasties were packed full to bursting so meant we could have lunch and then not worry until mid evening about a small meal.

Provided the full hour and ten minutes notice required for a gluten free pasty. The stiff, unfriendly faces they gave me makes me wonder if, when gluten free pasties are ordered they have to drop and do 50 push ups or something after hours, like geez, £9 for two pasties you could at least be polite about it. Something about Philps I think...maybe they were very upset about the Queen or something, IDK... Pasty was okay.

These really are the best pasties I’ve tasted in a long time. Freshly baked on the premises each day. The large size is definitely not for the faint hearted! Very courteous and friendly staff. We brought some home for the family and they too were impressed. Excellent - the perfect Cornish lunch or dinner!

We had delicious vegan pasties from here, very reasonable price and really tasty. My daughter knocked something over in the shop and the lady at the counter couldn't have been nicer about it and was really friendly. Would recommend a visit to anyone going near Porthleven. Thank you!

Worst pasty I've had! Expecting a high quality pasty in Cornwall, but very disappointing experience. Ordered a 'chicken' pasty, but it was predominantly potato. In addition, it was massively overseasoned with pepper.

These are without doubt the best pasties . Consistently good and bigger than it's competitors. The saffron buns are excellent too.

Was recommended the pasties and they didn’t disappoint !! Very reasonable prices and 2 sizes .. they also do sandwiches but had run out when we got there. They also do pasties delivery for non locals !

Good pasty shop, with a few options on fillings, the large ones are huge! Fresh out of the oven, really good and hot.

Pasties were amazing! Loads of really tender steak, well seasoned and packed full of filling. All different sizes available depending on your appetite.

It's a lovely pasty shop and the delicious smells drifting out of the door tempt you in. It's situated next to the harbour so once you have bought your food you can usually find a place to sit whilst you take in the harbour views. Today we were left a little disappointed, the pasty whilst tasty consisted mostly of potato...with onion and pepper.....I don't think they did a potato and onion pasty, so trade's description act should come into force.....

Awesome chicken pasties and sausage rolls. Buy and then sit on the harbour side and eat. Really good bakery with lots of award winning pasties.

I bought a standard minced beef pasty from Philps in Porthleven, it was piping hot and had the right level of seasoning. The pasties from Philps are generous in size and are reasonably priced. When I arrived for my morning pasty a cat was sitting...

Ordered cocktail pasties for a birthday party in the garden absolutely delicious freshly cooked and steaming hot when I picked them up definitely go to place for pasties. Very helpful staff.

Absolutely gigantic pasties. Tasty and good value for money.

We have regularly had pasties from here which are OK but think the previous owners were better . However what makes this place are the 'girls' who serve you . They are chatty and helpful and always make you feel welcome.

Genuinely great pasties let down by the surly women who work there. Philps. Sort them out. Tourists are humans too and should be treated with respect (and I'm not even a tourist!) I'll still go there because the pasties are yum.

Bought a steak pasty today for lunch. Good pastry but average filling. Have visited Cornwall many times and some years ago lived here for 3 years so have eaten a fair number of pasties! There are better.

Coming to the end of a ten day trip to Cornwall during which I have consumed pasties from three different Pasty producers. Unfortunately this was the worst. Covering was thick heavy and very not flavoursome. Filling was adequate in quantity but the meat was over...

Had a great Veggie pasty - lovely and soft and full of flavour, beautifully cooked, and really tasty, well worth the £3.10!

No problem at having a box of six standard steak pasties. Boxed cold so the car did not reek of delicious pasties. If you go to Hayle at their big bakery you will get fresh baked rather than in the shops which are pre baked...

The pasties were ok but the staff were extremely rude. It felt like they did not want any business with their attitude. I would not buy a pasty here again.

Popped in here to take some cream teas home with us but sadly they had no cream in stock till later in the day. Picked up a few pasties instead but found them to be under seasoned compared to the ones we had picked up earlier in the week from their store in Marazion (which were amazing).

I visited this shop 4 times during my visit and each time the staff were rude! Lovely food but staff need to learn some customer service!

Delicious Traditional steak pasties full of meat and cooked perfectly, up there with the best we’ve ever had. My daughter had a prawn salad box which she absolutely Loved. the staff were lovely and friendly chatting away to our children. Highly recommend for your quintessential Cornish pasty fix of the holiday

Called in around 11am and the selection wasn't good. Just shows that you need to get in early to buy your pastie of choice!Those we bought, veggie and cheese and veggie, wefre OK but needed more pepper.However for a couple of quid each they were quite good.

Picked up four pasties this morning before heading back to Essex. Had them with chips this evening. They were amazing! We'll be back!

So a pasty is a pasty! Not really. Philips pasties are one of the best but it’s also the service that counts. Had my first ever chicken “pasty” and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Loads of flavour and piping hot! Service was friendly and efficient well done!

Replaced the Horse & Jockey shop in Porthleven and has several other shops in the area. Produces wonderful pasties, buns and scones. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Worth a visit and take some pasties home if you are on holiday as your friends and family will appreciate them.

Fantastic cheese and veg pasty at an acceptable (that is incredibly hot so it doesn't go cold on a walk) temperature.

Great pasty but pastry too thick and heavy for my liking but that is just me. Will buy again. Recommended.

We have visited Porthleven for over 30yrs and always have a traditional pastie here, we were so surprised to see it taken over, thought we would try. My husband was so disappointed not the best. Good thing there are alternative outlets to find the traditional pastie in Porthleven.
