Great place to pop in for a quick lunch, offering such a wide variety of wraps, sandwiches and salads - covering many tastes and dietary requirements (including gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan). Opted to sit outside at one of the tables and watch the world go by as we enjoyed our lunch. Typical range of drinks available, including a wide range of cold/refrigerated options. Service was excellent. Worth a visit.

Has a great selection for cold and hot sandwiches and some nice cakes. They also serve jacket spuds and salads that I have yet to try. Good price and pleasant staff. Given how close it is and how great the food is I would definitely go again.

This place has the feel,of a business going out of trading. It looks so dire and door. I could not take the depressing inside and chose to sit outside

It's a sandwich/lunch place with lots of choice. It's not just sandwiches, you can have a jacket potato with a big choice of filling, or salads. Then a choice of drinks, crisps, cereal and chocolate bars. Everything you want to pick up for lunch. You can also sit down and eat inside.

Walk pass few times it look like very high class cafe . Visited base on a gift with groupon voucher , friendly services , Hot coffee ( very nice ), the slices cake packed in a take away box set on drinks fridge ( not like other patisserie ). The girl who’s serve for baguette maybe new ,she didn’t toast it ,but meats in hot ,choices with Pork sausages or Roast Duck ,very tasty . Good location with High standard feeling than reasonable price . Should try if you in Nottingham city

We arrived and were told that the only hot meat baguettes they had were turkey. They were OK, with sausage and stuffing in them. They had no gateaux, so we had to have cup cakes instead. In all a very poor lunch.

Needed to get a quick lunch ... highly recommend popping in for food! Both cold and hot food for lunch plus multiple salads freshly made to order. Had a superb hot turkey & crispy bacon torpedo roll with some lovely diced roast potatoes! Brilliant value... thanks very much!!!

For breakfast we both had fresh coffee (good) and a bacon and a sausage sandwich for £7.00. Pretty good for city centre and not silly prices or portions. Couldn't fault for the price.

I’ve been popping into Philpotts lots over the past couple of years, I love that you can get a freshly made sandwich or salad when on a time restricted lunch break. Service levels seemed to have taken a dip over the summer but the new manager has turned that around, a very cheery place.

Business travel is often a compromise on quality and healthiness for meals but not today! Found this gem of a cafe around the corner ahead of a meeting in Nottingham. Quite brilliant salad - wish I had one of these near the office.

I visit Philpotts almost everyday for my lunch as they have salads, sandwiches and hot meats all made fresh to your requirements. If I’m in a bit of a rush I can grab a ready made sandwich also. Loads of choices and excellent friendly service.

A bright & airy place on the non town side of Upper Parliament Street. We stopped here today for a sandwich, crisps (of course) and a coffee. There was plenty of selection and the staff were helpful. I would have scored a four but for the bottleneck at payment. You could potentially queue for your grub (we bought off the shelf to avoid this) and then queue again to pay/get a coffee. At a peak time on a Friday lunch they really need at least two tills on the go.

Having worked local for years I visited philpots regularly, to go in yesterday was completely shocked. Staff was rude, tables wasn't out. Only 2 staff on to only be concentrating on corp food. Not once was asked if needed any help. then when asked if could make something up advised not today and will be able to tomorrow - completely shocked. Such a shame as was a lovely place.

I have done sandwiches from here at least twice, still not sure how it works. Tried to get them to understand no butter / marge, milk or cheese. May be offer Lactose intolerant sandwiches, good interesting examples and not boring butties.

Just had a jacket potato with tuna & cheese. This cost £4.20ish and was probably the worst jacket potato I’ve ever had. It was luke warm, the potato wasn’t cooked and there was hardly any cheese. Sorry, I don’t think I’ll visit again.

Went here for lunch, and was happy with the speed of service! Food tasted great too, and they give really generous portions! Wasn't happy that they state that they close at 3pm, but refused to serve after 2:30pm - can't see why you'd keep a shop open for 30 minutes if you won't serve anyone!

Nice food but first you have to queue in one of two places for the food then queue again to pay. On the day I went there was only one person on the till

On Tuesday morning I popped in to buy a salad. It is an expensive place and I normally avoid it as I can't see the benefit of paying extra for a basic salad. When inside, the woman could not tell me what products were gluten and milk free, so all I could have was green salad, olives, sweet corn, green beans, 2 eggs and a couple of cherry tomatoes; the woman took these trays out, then put her hand in and to my horror she scoped the items by her bare hand, then wiped her hand on her clothes and dipped her hand into the next one and so on. I was speechless; I paid £6.00 and left. When in the office I looked at the plastic box and could not bring myself to open and eat, all I could see was that women dipping her hand into the trays and scooping out the items with bare hands. I put it in the bin. I would never go there again.

Just had breakfast. Excellent service and value for money. Place spotlessly clean. Great range of food.

This is a regular lunch thing for me - grab a boxed salad and pretend it's healthy :-) My favorite is the Greek Salad with a pasta base, but there are loads of options.

I buy boxed salads from here several time a week. They are tasty and good value. The sandwicjes always look great too, and they have a range of hot meal options that I'm sure I'll try as the weather gets cooler.

It is hard to beat a good Philpott salad or sandwich when you are in Nottingham. Don't miss the £1 coffees between 10am to 11am.

i've been a few times to philpotts and every single visit has been a frustrating and stressful experience - not what you want on your lunch break! i really, really want them to improve because i love the food but omg the service is terrible. they run out of basic salad items or just plain don't stock them. i've never had a Caesar salad there that didn't have to be modified in some way to accommodate their lack of planning - i had to have french dressing on it a couple of times!

I'm a southerner and we don't have Philpotts in London so I'm always pleased when I travel for work to find one of these. I like the fact that they do everything to order, nothing has been hanging around. Staff are always friendly and I'm always astonished by how cheap the food is!

Fresh baguettes, fresh soups. Everything delicious. Great service that is always willing to help you choose something new. Love New York Deli with pastrami! You should go and try it yourself!

I use Philpotts regularly for work events and before Christmas there was a little trouble with a breakfast oredr i put through. However Tom made the effort to call me again after teh event to apologise and offer a discount on our next purchase which was greatly appreciated. We used this in January. I also put through a second oredr in January just for some sandwiches for lunch and Tom personally made the effort to deliver these to us, once he had left i opened the order and he had included some lovely fruit and cakes without telling me he had done so. This is such a lovely and thoughtful thing to do and it wasnt asked for Tom just included as an extra apoplogy. The food was as always lovely and the gesture was greatly appreciated - you really do care about your customers!

Went for a sandwich at around 8.30am to eat later in the day. It took the lady on the counter about 5 minutes to find butter which I found utterly bizarre for a sandwich shop. As she was looking around for the butter she walked around the store with one of the slices of bread for my sandwich and coughed directly on to it. Then once she found the butter she completely massacred the bread as she was spreading it. It's a sandwich shop - surely the basics should be a given!!!! I won't be returning ever.

1. The prices are astronomical2. The food is appalling3. The Staff are incredibly rude, slow and attitudinal.4. Nottingham City Centre has a plethora of other Cafes, Coffee & Food shops - visit ANY of them rather than here.

This store is a mess. the staff are rude and do not even take into account that you have entered the shop as they argue and shout across the shop at each other. The staff never look happy and the customer service is awful. the food used to be great over this past year its gone down hill. and that so called manager where did he come from. hes awful. i was refused food at 2:45 even though the shop doesn't shut until 3pm. they are always running out of items during lunch. they cant be bothered to order the correct amount of stock. do they not know how much they need by now. iv just had enough of the place. i keep giving it another chance and get disappointing every time. i honestly don not know how Philpotts is still standing.

I walked in as i do everyday and everyday its the same, the foreign male member of staff was chopping onions at the salad bar as i walked i though it would be a quick visit however he carried on and then when he saw me he didn't stop he shouted over another colleague and told her to do itHis attitude was completely ignorantI have put up with because the food is amazing but now im going to go elsewhere, he has no customer service skills and no manners im paying over 5 pound a day for a salad and he couldn't be bothered to serve me, this place is a bismal absolute shamIf you must shop here dont expect him to be pleasant.Go elsewhere folks food won't be as good but they will be happy to serve you Absolutely shocking, really!!!!

I work in the building next door and only go to Philpott's when I'm desperate and don't have time for a proper lunch break. They're always running out of salad bar items, and every time I order a salad it's made inconsistently (too much salad dressing, not enough salad dressing etc etc.)One employee is consistently mardy, no matter how friendly I am to him, and my experience today with him will ensure I will not return regardless of convenience.I asked for a large mixed salad and there was only a tiny amount of lettuce left in the salad food prep area. He put this in and waited for me to tell him ingredients. I asked him if I could have more lettuce, and he said no that's how much lettuce a large salad gets (too lazy to get more lettuce from the back!) He then said if I wanted more I'd have to pay extra. I told him I work next door and have eaten there several times and ALWAYS get more lettuce than what he had given me. He again said I'd have to pay for it and I pointed out how ridiculous it was but that I'd pay for it. He then grumpily grabbed more lettuce and put the tiniest amount in. Ironically, when he finished making the salad and put it into the container, it was only half full (hint hint: it needed more lettuce).That is NOT customer service and I definitely won't be back.My colleague who I was with ordered the Caesar salad and it was practically cheese and salad dressing.

I often visit for informal bits and coffee, usually in-between meetings in Nottingham.The staff are welcoming and helpful to supply what you are seeking.Fresh food, selections of breads and fab coffee.The service is quick and efficient. Sometimes its just what is needed !

I came in for a cup of tea at 2-25. I was given the tea in a paper cup. I asked for a real cup which I was given ungraciously and told that it closed at 3pm. At 2-35 two men came in. They were given drink in mugs and were not told the place was closing until they asked. By 2-45 I was walled in by the outside chairs that had been brought in and then go to listen to the staff shouting about shifts. They have a couple of gluten free things and they have gluten free sandwiches but I was feeling unwelcome and I felt the member of staff who served me definitely had a gender bias. I will look elsewhere in future.

Received excellent service from Tom really friendly and welcoming . The salads are great and the daily deals are excellent value

It's at street level, and one new unit within the glorious former Coop department store. One or two derilect places near by but I hope Philpotts is setting the tend in providing a good service.Good Americanos.

Having just moved to a new office nearby, we are delighted to have frequented Philpotts 4 out of the 5 days in the first week! The service is fantastic, very clean inside and everyone is so friendly and welcoming. I found the staff very accommodating and nothing is too much trouble. We made ourselves known to Tom who was fab - clearly a seasoned pro where food prep is concerned. Thanks for the take away breakfast - amazing :-) we'll be your best customers before long!

The food is fresh, quality and with plenty of variety.Adi's service of my regular salad is excellent and Tom always endeavours to tailor make a gluten free roast. I would highly recommend for work lunch breaks.

Take away pasta salad. Picked the first choice, can't remember the name, from the board. When i went to eat it, it was just soggy pasta and all i could taste was the onion which there was loads of. The rest of the added salad, what bit there was, was totally soggy and limp. No pesto flavour at all. Better off getting pre packed pasta from greggs.

I ordered a cake for my son's birthday through their website. I just given one option to pick it up on the day from one of the shops (Phillpotts ), which was one of the choices.I travelled to the city centre, just to pick the cake and shop was closed. Opening hours on the door was showing they should be open. So went to the main shop (valerie) which didn't know anything about their own website and the picking up arrangements from other shops .They came up with a excuse that they can not refund me because I've purchased it from the website . After 20 minutes searching for the missing cake they offered completely different cake . When I refused to accept they refunded me . Such a waste of time on my son's birthday. The shop just copes with the customers buying few potion of cakes from their counter. Even sitting and ordering food is too much for them . Their service is awful.

Nice variety of options for lunch. Decent selections of sandwich fillings and desserts. Seating adequate enough but at a premium during lunch hour.

I work round the corner from here and must say the food is the best around and there isn't anyone locally doing what they do at Philpotts. However they NEVER EVER EVER have what you want, they have an amazing menu with some real treats on there but don't expect to get what you want off there. I and my colleagues would use this place everyday but its not worth paying the extra to be told they've run out of basics. I have tried to complain however seems to have fallen on deaf ears as the staff don't seem to care.SORT IT OUT PHILPOTTS AS YOU COULD TRULY BE GREAT!!!!!!!

We used to go here on a regular basis but then the staff started to change along with the quality of the service.Staff will ALWAYS get your order wrong, im not sure how many times they make these salads but they will 100% get it wrong, put the wrong sauce in, forget to put Chicken in a CHICKEN caesar. It's just terrible.Please sort it out...

I used to go here on a daily basis with a number of colleagues for my lunchtime sandwich. Firstly I will point out that the range of fillings is great and these are the only reason I occasionally go back. Every time I do go back I get annoyed about the same issue though....My main gripe is that over the last few years the amount of filling they put in a sandwich appears to have halved. To put it in to context, if I had made the last sandwich I had there at home then I would have put at least three times the portion of filling. Whilst I understand they have to make money there really is no excuse for this when you are charging £3 - £5 per sandwich. The filling surely can't be more than 20% of this price. I have raised this issue with them directly on a number of occasions and sometimes they will add further filling (begrudgingly) whilst other times they will state they've got to stick to their 80g limit. On a couple of occasions they have even spooned out the filling out on to a set of scales and weighed it before me. I felt like saying "I don't care what your policy is, this is not a reasonable amount!!".I then complained to their head office and the best they could offer me was a £4 voucher. Clearly a lot cheaper to them than changing their policy! To add to this issue they will quite clearly put out leftover fillings the next day and try and charge you full price for these. I struggle to comprehend a business like this that clearly does not value customer service and is more concerned with its internal policies and procedures than seeing damage to customer loyalty. On a completely separate note they seem to use the same cloths to wipe down knives and chopping boards throughout the day which I struggle to believe is hygienic.

'Excellent' is for the food - not the service.The food choice & quality here is amazing! Some of the smaller items seem a bit overpriced but at around £4.30 for a salad of a really good size & mix of ingredients that are fresh, tasty & generally LUSH! its not bad. Some of the staff are lovely but SOME need to go get some customer service training which is a shame, tbh the food makes up for it so get it to go! ;-) On a separate note, the staff should be told how to go about getting a coorporate discount, especially when they are next door but one to a MASSIVE building of 9-5 ers!

Having just visited this branch this morning I do feel the need to endorse the previous reviewers comments. Service reached a new level of surliness. It does depend who you get but I've noticed that staff here have always seemed rather subdued -- wonder if its a company/management issue? Still, the sausages are the best.

Seen a few of my colleagues go here so I thought I'd go for a breakfast sausage cob 3 huge sausages and a cappuccino 2.25 the cobs are huge to so very filling before work

The food is usually nice but there's two bugbears. A couple of times I've been in they've had no cheese and no cobs - surely these are two staples of a sandwich shop.Like others have said on here, I visit regularly and each time I'm treated like a stranger. No hello or how are you do? As a loyal customer, it would be nice to be acknowledged more. It's that kind of poor customer service that drives people to more friendly places.They're not even under pressure at the time, so no excuse there. That's the reason for my average rating.

The food here is quite nice although generally rather expensive. The breakfast deal is quite good value though. the main problem I have with this place is that the cashier is also the 'Barista' and there's just the one of them.... so if you are unlucky you can get delayed waiting to pay while they make up someone else's drink orders.

I use philpotts on a daily basis because foods great and the staff go out there way to make sure my foods done the way I like it this is not a standard cob shop as they use some outstanding ingredients... but some staff need to learn to smile and not crack under pressure on the busy times but all in all great food well done

This place looks lovely, with a fantastic choice of menu. It took ages to choose, but I don't think that I picked well. The granary bread was wonderful, but the chicken, bacon and avocado filling lacked taste. The soup was a little booby-trapped by large chunks of incompletely cooked vegetables. This was a pity as the mixture would have been lovely if only it had been cooked for around a quarter of hour longer.So I am only scoring average. At over £6 for the pair, a little disappointing.

The food is lovely and the variety is big enough to satisfy everybody's taste buds, however the staff are rude. I do not receive a hello or a smile when I go in there, and I visit quite regularly. Quite a few of my colleagues have said the same thing which is very disappointing as the food is definitely one to taste.

On a recent visit to Nottingham we noticed Philpotts as it looked very clean and modern and ideal for a sandwich or a light lunch. We had two excellent sandwiches at a very reasonable price served by friendly staff. We would recommend this to anyone in the area .

Called in to Philpotts for the first time, and treated myself to a very nice and tasty breakfast bap from their quite extensive menu, very reasonable price too, £2.79 for the breakfast roll and including a hot drink as well.The place was very clean and presentable too, together with a friendly welcome from the staff on duty.Will definitely return on my next visit to this part of Nottingham City Centre.
