Saw a write up somewhere at the end of the summer saying this pub had been voted Pub Of The Year by Visit England so I thought it would be nice to give it a try. What better an opportunity than for my birthday? Nice simple online booking which is always a bonus for me. It was just under an hours drive from us along the lovely new A30, half term was finished so it was quieter than usual thankfully. Staff were really friendly and the pub is beautiful inside, laid out nicely, plenty of tables but without being cheek by jowl to anyone else. We both ordered roast beef, there was a bit of a wait for the food to come but you don’t mind when you know it’s all fresh and comes out looking and tasting like it did. Portion size was absolutely spot on and came with extra gravy in a jug which is a nice touch. Highly recommend and will definitely be back before the start of the next summer season. Thanks Peterville Inn 😀

What a brilliant pub in a beautiful setting. Lots of strong use of local produce across the menu. As you would expect for Cornwall, some delicious seafood too. The Skate Wing was a favourite as well as the St Austell Mussels. I’m not sure what the vegetarian choice is like because I only eat meat and fish, that’s why I’m happy with my life. Highly recommend this gaff, not surprised it was voted Pub of the Year.

Came across the Peterville Inn online a few weeks ago. Noticed they were voted ‘Pub of the Year 2024’. Decided to look at their menu. It was noted there were several vegetarian dishes but not anything other than the usual pub variety. Emailed them to ask if they could perhaps do something a little more inventive on a date we were to visit for a special occasion. Of course we would pay accordingly. The pub replied saying they thought the vegetarian dishes were adequate and changed daily. Anyway, we decided to make a booking for lunch. First and foremost, it is essential to make it clear, this review is an observation not a complaint. Having been seated, we were served by a bubbly apologetic food server (informing us that they were short staffed and bear with us). The pub was very busy. The vegetarian choice was limited, as is normal in most pubs. Carrot and Corriander soup, Gnocchi, Mushroom on Toast, Breaded Brie Bites!, were on the menu. Unfortunately the Gnocchi was not made on site, so that reduced the choice to three items or so. Ordered the soup and Brie bites. Asked for soup plate and the soup to be HOT! It’s not sure whether most chefs know the classification of soups these days. However, the soup was more like a postage than a normal soup, thick and sludgy and barely hot. Most of it left. The Brie bites, of which there were 4, had a taste of being deep fried in oil that may have been used for other items. Having read other reviews on the Peterville Inn, I agree with the comments the food is a little overpriced but that’s the nature of the beast these days. However, it is hoped that on a less busy day the dishes would not be held as long. There is no mention of the other dishes ordered as not to lessen the observation further. It seems that these days we are to expect much higher prices and less food on the plate. Why didn’t we complain. It was a Birthday celebration, no need to upset the day for the sake of £60.00! The long delay for both food and the bill was disappointing.

A great pub with well priced, good quality, delicious food ... the 'simple' steak burger on our first night was probably the best burger we have ever had!! Definitely not the typical overpriced pub food which has become all too common. We visited several times during out stay In St. Agnes for both food and sometimes just a couple of beers. Staff and manager / owner were always friendly and accommodating, even bringing some treats and water for our dog on each occasion. A proper pub and has to be a 5 star review from us.

Went out for a drive. Popped in for a drink and ended up having lunch. Friendly and welcoming and excellent service, and the traditional roast was very good. The portions were generous and of very good quality. The food suffered from not being hot enough and being served on warm rather than really hot plates. The result was that the last of meal was quite cold. This is a simple thing to remedy and does not stop me recommending the Peterville Inn or from visiting it again in the future.

My friend’s meal was served with full politeness: “Here’s your eggs ham and chips”And he just put my food right in front of me and not saying a word and walked off? What a contrast in attitude? If you want to be discriminative in certain way just say it out loud but not treating your customer who is paying your wages in such despicably disgusting way.Thought it would be more welcoming in a smaller Cornish town but I think I am wrong.Well done and keep up the good work!

The Peterville Inn is a lovely, friendly old-style pub in the St. Agnes that features a very good selection of hand-pumped real ales and offers good, solid pub food. The building itself and the nice décor exude a warm, welcoming atmosphere - and indeed the bar staff were extremely welcoming upon my visit and gave me some advice which other places in Cornwall would be worth a visit (St. Agnes itself is rather tiny and very quiet, its main attraction being the small, enclosed beach about a half a mile from The Peterville Inn). It's truly the perfect village pub for locals and tourists alike.

A curious smell pervaded the bar and throughout the bits of the pub we saw - possibly a cleaning product, but unpleasant enough to drive us outside. The barman was seemingly affronted by the fact that we only had a couple of 1/2s, but he didn't have a full range of pumps working either...The toilets were very clean and modern and clearly the place has had some serious renovation work done, which looks great. But there was zero atmosphere and it seems to be a self-perpetuating situation (people came in and left again while we were there). Very loud pop music was blaring, the back room was in darkness and the tables outside and out front offer nothing but road - some planting would be of real benefit.

Also they do a vegan day once a week, which would suit dairy free diets. I look forward to returning for a meal.

Very disappointed, looked nice from the outside but it smelt stale inside, nice landlord but no atmosphere, in inviting and strange layout, not comfortable, finished off our drink outside, didn't go back.

The Peterville is now closed, the proprietors apparently cleared out one weekend very recently and have gone. That's putting it succinctly, but maybe someone else will take it over and return it to its former status in the village, a good pub serving good food and drink.

Had a few beers of an evening during our stay as this was the nearest to us (50 steps from our holiday accommodation) and can say it was a nice friendly pub with chatty locals to speak with and some good beers on tap served by friendly staff. I would recommend anybody to pop in and have a pint. Can't vouch for the meals but those we saw looked good and typical pub type food. You can have a good sit down and chat with your friends without any excessive noise. Thanks for the beers!

We ate here twice in a week-once of the main menu and once off the Sunday menu. Both were good, honest pub meals with decent portions and not too much unnecessary fancy touches. Good service and the staff were attentive. Dining room at the back and family friendly bar with pool table at the front. Worth a visit.

The food was good, let down by the service which was disjointed and amateur, first choice for both of us was not available but it took a good five minutes to find that out after ordering. The overall ambience was quite good although the language from the bar sometimes left a lot to be desired, especially as there were children on the premises.

Great place to stop, we were in early afternoon and only stopped for a drink, the landlord was great as were the few locals that were in. The place is very clean and the food sounded good, will eat next time.

We only had a drink here, but they were good value and the staff were very friendly, so would definitely eat here next time we are down in St Agnes.

We have been visiting the Peterville, with its frequent changes of staff over the years, for 30 years. It has never provided us with an inspiring dining experience, but we were told that, having changed hands yet again in the past year, it was well worth a visit for the food. Naively, we followed the advice and visited in the spring one evening.Apart from the two male members of staff at the bar (one serving, one drinking) and the female owner-chef we were the only two people there the whole time.Uninspiring and limited menu, we ordered French Onion Soup and Seafood Pie. We were told categorically that the Seafood Pie had run out (who had eaten it? No other customers present or signs that any had been there already) but several minutes later, after a visit to the kitchen, we were told that it was back own the menu so I ordered it.French Onion Soup arrived, a few pale onion strips drowning in a thin watery stock - not caramelised, buttery, sweet or containing a crouton or grated cheese on top. Not French Onion Soup as we all know it so give it a different, correct name on the menu. The Seafood Pie was a collection of mainly mini mussels and clams in a very runny white sauce, no taste of cheese or seasoning/herbs and some piped mashed potato round the edge. This pie had never seen an oven or a grill and was just seafood sauce with mashed potato. I realised then that that was why they had managed to put the dish back on the menu so speedily. We will not be going back.

A very friendly welcome awaits you at Peterville Inn, we had a good laugh with the bar man and there is a good selection of drinks too. We went on a Tuesday which was free pool night! Lovely place, recommend a visit!

Popped in here for a cream tea, deliciously warm scones with jam and clotted cream, a real treat. Very reasonably priced. The staff were lovely, very friendly, would definitely recommend.

The ice creams here are beautiful! Really generous portions and are very well presented. The customer service we received was outstanding, my daughter had a massive meltdown (ASD) and they were nothing but supportive, understanding and helpful. We'd had a very tough day today with meltdowns galore and this one was by far the worst of the day yet I never felt alone or judged. People like you make the biggest difference and I am so very grateful for you going out of your way to help and care. Thank you x
