Permit Room in Brighton and Hove

Third visit to The Permit Rooms, somewhat disappointing this time unfortunately. in fairness the manager was very good with us and tried his best so i cant fault him, however on a busy Saturday in December i would not expect a restaurant to only have two of the four white wines avaialble and to also not have some options available on the menu, whoever deals with th stock ordering needs to up their game.

First visit to the permit room, although a regular visitor to the Dishoom chain. Really pleased with choices of food. Recommend the fish cakes, chicken salad and devilled eggs. Lamb samosa weren't as tasty as the rest of the food. Service was really good. Will return

Had a wonderful experience here recently! It was my first time trying the breakfast menu, and it exceeded all expectations – truly delicious! The service was great, as always, and it was a treat to experience a Permit Room. I cannot recommend visiting enough. I kept it simple with the House Chai and Wrestler’s Naan Roll, and both were yum!

unfortunately there was very loud building work in a near by property when we first arrived which wasn't very nice

To start with we ordered spinach chips and it was amazing … prawn were excellent but spicy …. Main was paneer in gravy and lamb curry and they were excellent

My boyfriend and I visited the permit room last night and were wowed. Not only by the food, but by the interior design, atmosphere, cocktails, and service. The menu was diverse and well-executed, and we fell in love with the Mango Lassi Punch, it was fresh and sweet. Our server Teddy was spectacular, incredibly knowledgeable and welcoming; he answered all our questions before we even thought to ask. He truly gave us a memorable experience at the permit room. Give Teddy a bonus!

Very noisy due to no soft furnishings, decent food, can recommend that black lentil daal, proper stuff

Came here for my wife’s birthday and we were treated like the only people in the place, the food was incredible and drinks amazing, I cannot recommend enough.

Amazing food, amazing drinks! A really lovely spot for a date night or dinner with friends. We were lucky enough to be seated in Harry’s section - he’s so warm and great for chats. His recommendations were perfect! Thanks Harry!

After hearing all the hype, we were excited to try Dishoom for dinner. We ordered samosas, prawn recheado, aloo tikki chaat, garlic naan chili cheese bites, and mattar paneer. We asked them to make the curry spicy, if possible, to which it seemed like 2 different servers had absolutely no idea how to respond to. A simple yes or no would have sufficed, but I definitely assumed it would be possible to adjust the spice level as this is supposedly an Indian resraurant (unless the food isn't made-to-order which is it's own separate problem if that's the case). Ok fine, the food can still taste good even if it isn't spicy *so I thought*. The samosas and prawn rechado were really fresh, steaming hot, and delicious. But the aloo tikki chaat was cold/room temperature and unappetizing. The garlic naan chili cheese bites was simply cut up naan instead of a new, fusion dish like I expected. Had I known that, I would have rather wanted it to come with the curry instead of as an appetizer. The mattar paneer was the worst dish of all. It was completely lacking in flavor and the rice we ordered along with it was cold/room temperature. We left the majority of the food behind and in utter disappointment.

I never ate such amazing Indian food, including versions of street food which I would sadly never risk eating on the street in India. Delicious and authentic, sometimes with a twist, wonderful welcoming staff who were very kind to us, especially two little granddaughters. Sheer pleasure and an absolute recommendation!

Marvellous evening, ambience, scrumptious food and wonderful staff. Relaxed and took our time. So many excellent dishes, hard to choose. The spinach Chaat was another level and the black dhaal, divine, small plate little fish patties were scrumptious, to name but a few! Breakfast menu looks delish, will be back. YUM 😋

Oh my gosh, people. Oh. My. Gosh. Think of the Chilli Pickle. Now cross it with the Plotting Parlour cocktail bar. Now make it extra friendly, and with a vague sense of doing something a bit rebellious. Okay, wait for this bit though... Absolutely delicious and wonderful service!

We went for breakfast this weekend, the naan breakfasts are so yummy. Service was great, our waiter was so friendly and sweet, with so many well wishes. He really made the whole experience great. Sadly they were out of the marmalade mimosas but we made our own mimosas with a bottle and some oj!

Amazing place to go for a special occasion or just to eat with family and friends. Lovely setup and building really well presented. The staff really enhances your dining experience very friendly and attentive. The food and drinks are amazing and very original and authentic. Reasonably priced and if you order too much like we did you can take it away no problem lol.

Fantastic place to enjoy a more authentic spicy eating experience. From the drinks to the food and amazing staff and buzzing atmosphere. We couldn't fault anything it's set up really well. Very clean and well organized. The food was excellent and priced right for the portions sizes. We couldn't eat it all so took the rest home. The staff were interactive with each other with great communication between them all and it reflected really well on how we were looked after. The management should be very proud of their staff 👏 Definitely going back.

Had a lovely dining experience, it was me and my girlfriend’s one year anniversary and we had a great time. Delicious curries (especially the paneer) and we had 2 mango lassi punches- so banging. Will definitely be returning soon. ALSO because it was our anniversary we got a card with 2 free drink tokens- impeccable customer service!

Great breakfast with extended family. Everyone from the youngest, aged 4 to the oldest, aged 71 enjoyed the food, and the ambience very much. Our waitress, Sophia, was exceptional; with brilliant customer service and was a really warm and welcoming person. We'll be back!

Honestly overrated and westernised. Although the curries and naan were of normal taste, I expected more from the menu. Lamb curry and Briyani was interesting but would recommend drinks over the food bc it’s quite expensive. Also it’s quite deceiving that in an Indian restaurant there aren’t any such staff at the front. Only the lovely guy serving (only food!). Even the music was so out of place. It needs more diversity!!

I just ordered 2 salads from this restaurant and we found hair inside of our salad. Unfortunately we had to threw it to the bin. Wanted to get my refund so i texted deliveroo service but no one helped me.

Absolutely the best experience in Brighton! The best flavors you can experience from Indian cuisine with staff who make your experience something out of the ordinary. Can even claim that it is the most wonderful meal I have been served in the parts of Europe I have visited. You leave the restaurant with a silly smile after what you experienced. In addition, they collaborate with a couple of charities, which means that for every meal sold, they donate a sum to those in need.

So worth a visit, the food tastes amazing and the staff were so nice and cozy.

Food is good but they don’t accept Amex. Really disappointing for a restaurant of this size. Very misleading given the sign as you walk in saying they accept all major credit cards. Managers excuse - it’s a large chain and I have no say over credit card policy. I’ll be heading to Chilli Pickle next time.
