Five stars all round. Permit Room is consistently delicious every time I’ve visited, whether for brunch or dinner. Lovely ambiance and great team too.

Long wait. Very spicy although the waiter announced "mild". Nevertheless very accommodating manager in the end.

I absolutely love jackfruit biryani of this place. Whenever I feel like eating authentic Indian food I either go to this place or order biryani from here. Only the wait time is bad otherwise everything is good.

Took the team here for dinner last night. We had a good time, enjoyed the food and were happy to get a table quickly. Very busy for a Wednesday night. This off brand is like Dishroom in London but with more alcohol options. They had some nice soda options for those who don't drink. I had raspberry soda last night.

Incredible stop we made at Dishoom Permit Room. Food was excellent, service was really nice, unique and excellent cocktails, a huge choice of craft beers. One of the places we will surely remember from our english trip this year !

Overrated and nowhere near as good as the proper Dishoom (London, specifically the Shoreditch branch); and as a British Indian person... This place is a massive scam. However it has to be said that both the staff and the overall service provided is exceptional, best (and only good) thing about this place. The hard product (food itself) is good but stupidly overpriced for both quality and quantity received. The fact that there was barely a handful of chicken and paneer in the curries for that price is outrageous, the food is arguably worth around half the price it's being sold for. This to me feels like a massive money making scam towards English/White people that know no better, it's probably why there were no other Indian/brown customers when we went... Which is generally a red flag. This place is all about the feeling and not the food, it's an absolute rip-off.

Lovely meal with absolutely delicious food. However… we wanted to order some more dishes and drinks but the staff didn’t come anywhere near us (we were in the very furthest corner in a booth, table 41?) - we were abandoned until someone asked if we wanted dessert. I think our waitress went on her break after taking our order as we didn’t see her again. A shame :-(

Enjoyed a great lunch. On arrival we debated whether we could stay due to volume of music as my friend has profound hearing loss and conversation would be impossible. Nice to see some Dishoom classics on the menu

Despite the lovely staff and nice setting. I’d had a bacon & egg SW this morning and not too long after I have become violently il. I was completely fine before eating here now I’m in agony. I’d be careful of your food and what you’re mixing together. Either the sauces or not very cooked food. My eggs were a little burnt but I wasn’t expecting to feel this il after. I really didn’t need this for a busy day at work I hope this passes and I will not be returning. Prices were too high in my opinion. Nearly £5 for a small cappuccino. Ridiculous. Good luck.

A restaurant with a difference. Great tasting food that’s a bit difference from the usual curries you would find in restaurants. Also has a great ambiance.

Food was absolutely delicious but the best thing about our visit was the brilliant service from Jack our server. He was so kind and friendly that it really made our experience. His drink recommendation was delicious as well. We aren’t local but would return here anytime we’re in Brighton for some top service.

Great atmosphere and great service. The food though was OK, it's nice enough, just nothing special. I really can't see that it's so different from any other half decent Indian restaurant. The only thing that marks it out, is the whole experience which definately makes it a bit more special; you are definately paying extra for that though

Brilliant restaurant. Have been for dinner, breakfast and now the Halisco collab and the food was fantastic each time. Can’t recommend it enough if you’re looking for a tasty night out.

i had a birthday meal at dishoom permit room on the 3rd march, couldn’t be happier with the service i received! They hand wrote me a lovely birthday card, which made my day! We were greeted by Ed who was lovely, and couldn’t be more welcoming. Our server was Molly, she was so sweet and accommodating! I couldn’t have wished for a better birthday meal, highly recommend visiting dishoom permit room brighton.

This is probably the 4th outlet of Dishoom I have visited in UK. But the overall experience was the least among all the 4 i visited... The best one is probably the one in London SOHO.. though it was not a bad experience.... I visited with a colleague for dinner... No pre booking so no place to sit but they gave us bar tables at the counter and we managed to have our dinner there... So they did their best to accommodate us even without booking... We ordered house chai (tea) which was really good and was bottomless... Then tried palak patta chat along with chikli cheese naan bites both tastes good and with hot tea it was good combination.... Later for main course we had mattar paneer with garlic and plan naan and again it was good in taste.... Though menu is really small with very limited options and compared to other outlets probably even smaller... Drinks I could not try here but they really have some amazing cocktails in other outlets not sure how it will be here.... A little overpriced for the size of restaurant and menu options but good taste and always can be tried for authentic Indian taste...

A lighter version of dishoom with some similar dishes but also their own set of new things love the jukebox theme throughout.

Went to DISHOOM permit room for drinks with friends. Harry was our server and an absolute superstar! Drinks were gorg and atmosphere unreal. Been to London Dishoom and huge fan, this venue in Brighton is a must visit x

Interesting and enjoyable family Birthday meal. Food was excellent and tasty. Fairly loud background music and packed. Made it difficult to hear others on my table and some of the waiting staff.

Came here yesterday for dinner. Food took a very long time to arrive with a waiting time of 1 hour. The service was very poor and the staff were very rude and unpleasant. The food quality was very poor and very price heavy with nothing to show for the price. There are many other restaurants in the area and will not be coming here again. Very poor and will not be coming here again.

Highly overrated. Decor & vibe are 5 stars, decent service, but the food was average at best. The signature chicken “ruby” dish was alright. Rich tomato and yogurt flavor at first but somehow ends up being blend and leaves your taste bud feeling empty towards the end. The king prawn appetizer was overcooked and blend. Overcooked shrimp, spicy, but otherwise no umami or flavor. The deviled egg variation appetizer was just some onions and other veggies chopped and served on eggs—again, not much flavor at all. I have had better deviled eggs at a friend’s place—and she barely knows how to cook. If I had to make a comparison, I’d consider the food here as drinking 0 proof beer vs. the real thing. Something missing in each dish, and makes me regret I ordered them…

We were drawn into this cafe by the kerb side appeal. It looked absolutely fabulous from the outside and it didn’t disappoint inside either. I don’t think I’ve been in a more pleasant relaxing environment with great staff for a long time. The whole experience was amazing. I have total fallen in love with this place. Unfortunately this one is long way from where we live, Cambridge is our nearest one we will be visiting that very soon.

Excellent evening spent at Permit Rooms, Brighton. Lovely warm restaurant on a freezing evening, delicious food and very varied choice. Service excellent. Lovely ambiance. Would highly recommend and will be going back again soon.

I did not have a good experience with the food here. For me the spices were crude and the food very salty. I also thought the menu limted in range. Service and ambience was good but the music was loud and thumpy. Everybody else was having a great time.

Lovely hidden gem in the heart of Brighton. Incredibly flavourful food and very speedy service. Smaller portion sizes mean lots of dishes to try!

Fabulous food, and I do mean FABULOUS! Incredibly friendly & attentive staff, superbly dog friendly establishment - really lovely experience all round! And do NOT miss out on the Black Daal dish - you'd have this for your last supper - trust me on this!!

The food and service were exceptional. The only thing I would fault is that the dish described as sweet potato was actually ordinary potato. Otherwise it was perfectly cooked, tasty and original. It is a bit noisy for us old folk but others without hearing issues seemed to manage fine.

Weekend in Brighton for hubby’s birthday. Booked Dishoom as it’s one of his favourite restaurants. Lamb curry, prawn moolie, rice, tenderstem broccoli and garlic naan bread - food was delicious, good portions, quality produce. My husband’s cocktail (the bourbon one) was on the house - thank you! Very strong and mine was the kiwi one, like a slushy but very good to clear the palate. Overall lovely evening.

SO delicious! A perfect slice of the classic Dishoom! Didn’t get our servers name (short black hair) but she was amazing, had the best recommendations, and took care of us so well. Supreme Mango Lassi!

The food tasted good, but the portions were disappointingly small. The restaurant was uncomfortably packed, making it feel almost suffocating. We and another party were told there would be a 1–1.5 hour wait since we didn’t have a reservation. Fair enough—we agreed to wait outside. But just 15 minutes later, both our group and the other party (a total of 10 people) were suddenly given tables. The most frustrating part? We initially asked for grapefruit juice but were told they had run out. No problem—we just asked for tap water instead. Five minutes later, a waiter magically appeared with freshly squeezed grapefruit juice. Clearly, they only bothered once they realized we weren’t going to order another paid drink. Overall, it felt like they didn’t really want to serve us. First, by telling us we'd have to wait over an hour when tables became available almost immediately. Second, by only making an effort when it suited their bottom line. Safe to say, we won’t be returning. Someone really needs to look into this restaurant’s practices.

My friends and I ate at Dishoom Permit Room, Brighton, on Friday 31st Jan 25. Having eaten many times at Dishoom in London, we were looking forward to the experience. However, things didn't pan out as we anticipated; Table booked for 20.15, we arrived at 20.14 and joined a queue of 6 people all waiting to be booked in by a woman with a headpiece who was sole front-of-house staff. At 20.20, I asked what was happening and was told to wait - she appeared stressed and quite stroppy. At 20.24 a man came and dealt with the queue (which still had the same 6 people ahead of us) and were told our table wasn't ready and could we wait. We were finally taken to our table sometime after 20.30. We ordered and our food arrived: my friends enjoyed their Dishoom Chicken Ruby, but my Jackfruit Berry Pula was really dry and lacked flavour. All our naan were crispy, dry and crumbly. The veg samosas had good pastry but the filling lacked flavour. Apparently the lamb samosas were good. I wonder if more attention has been paid to the meat dishes. I eventually asked if there were any sauces (none had been offered) and it took a full 10 minutes for them to arrive despite asking 2 other staff if they were on the way. By which time we had basically finished our food. We ordered 2 deserts - the coconut caramel custard lacked coconut flavour, the ice cream chocolate and butterscotch sandwich had no wafers as they'd run out (when served they said they wouldn't charge for this) but sadly it lacked any chocolate flavour, and the butterscotch lacked flavour too. When our dinner plates were removed and we were asked how the meal went, I explained I didn't enjoy mine and there were issues with the naan bread. They kindly didn't charge for my dinner. A very disappointing experience overall, although the waiting and serving staff were very friendly and nice.

The two of us were put next to a busy table of 10. They were so loud we could barely hear each other. Otherwise excellent food and tip top service!
