Poor staff coping admirably, cream tea sounded goof. Crockery very badly chipped, teapot spout, cup, teapot, this always makes u hope china bits aren't inside! Little organisation, long queue, one till, no instruction for a first time visitor, not even written on the menu. And the dreaded give customers as little milk as possible in a very leaky minute jug. I don't often write a bad review but this was not good. Management seemed missing.

Been for lunch today and ordered the soup carrot and butternut squash which was OK, I asked for a brown roll but instead I got boring sliced brown so i asked for a roll and was told they didn't have any but could get me seedy one, that came straight from the freezer I think and was the so dry it would of made good bread crumbs .not worth £7.45 for the tiny bowl of soup 😡

I went for Sunday lunch to the cafe. I had the trio of meats and was not disappointed. Meat was tasty and not dry (as can sometimes be the case with roasted meat) great selection of vegetables - carrots, swede, cauliflower cheese and red cabbage (my fave!) lovely Yorkshire pudding too. Will be back very soon. Best roast I’ve had in Shrewsbury in ages.

Visited the restaurant for the first time for the overpriced afternoon cream tea. My wife having tea and me latte at + 30p. Drinks were hot and good. The scones were large and delicious but would have been better on the day they were made. Slicing the scones in two was impossible, ending up with a mound of crumbs and fruit which resulted in a cream and jam mess all over fingers. The cream was, at first, frozen solid as was the wrapped butter. No sugar on the table, one member of staff said they're on the tables but were really sweeteners, another staff member then pointed to a distant side table for sugars etc. Staff were helpful and friendly but seemingly poorly informed and managed.

Every time I visit I always think how much I always have a fabulous experience , whether it’s with my beloved or with friends or even on my own. The food is always exceptional and the presentation and selection is always to a high standard. The whole team should be highly complimented as their performance and their friendly and caring nature goes a long way. I can never say enough how great they all are, too many names to mention. Well done and Thank You to each member of the restaurant…. You certainly make a difference.

We popped in for food whilst visiting the Garden center today. the service was poor with the guy on the till not taking the order correctly. We did get the missing items quite quickly. One of its had the Breaded Turkey which was dry and hard to the point where it could hardly be cut, the sauce was thick and tasteless. Over all definitely not with the £15! expensive and poor quality food.

I ordered the land hotpot @ 15.99. The food arrived in two small dishes one of the dishes had the hotpot in it the other dish had 3 sprouts and 4small carrots in it ,the sprouts were so over cooked they were like eating soggy paper,I mentioned this to a server who informed me that he would return the meal and get me a fresh one from the kitchen, when this arrived the vegatables were just the same if not worse than the ones he had returned to the kitchen, the potatoes on the top of the hotpot were no thicker than crisps and the lamb was scraggy cuts of meat full of gristle. This is definitely one restaurant My family will not be returning to. Peter Chandelle.

5 scores on the doors for food hygiene; Had the 2 for 1 breakfast deal and chose the veggie option. I have to say that it was an exceptionally pleasant experience. The meal came very quickly, was hot, was good value and was served by a young man who couldn't have been more helpful and polite. The breakfast items, which included halloumi and avocado, were done just right, including the egg. Coffee was great. I'm old enough to remember Percy Thrower and most garden centres today are a million miles from the concept in his day, but that's the way of the world. That said, I like the atmosphere here and unlike some, they do have a large and wide variety of plants for sale - now isn't that a novelty for a garden centre today!

The food here used to be excellent and affordable. Sunday roast was the worst meal I have ever paid. I had one roast beef and 2 kids roasts with drinks that came to nearly £50! Roast beef was very hard and dry with a Aunt Bessie Yorkshire pudding and microwaved bowl of frozen veg for £15. Kids said there school diners are better and that's saying something. I will not be spending a penny at this garden centre ever again which is a same as it used to be good.

Went for a birthday breakfast. The girls on the tills were lovely which is the reason for the one star. The order came within about 4 mins ( one full English and one veggie ) and both meals stank of fish !! It was so off putting. I can only think it was the eggs which were scrambled and loaded with fresh chives. Did not eat a single thing or even want to due to the stench. We covered the plates in napkins and The waitress took our plates away after about 2 mins with no offer of a refund or replacement so we left. Unfortunately won’t be returning unless it’s for a plant.

My husband and I have eaten at Percy Thrower's many times when visiting to buy plants , but service, the quality of food and the atmosphere seem to have gone downhill since lockdown. Last week we were greeted with posters saying it was operating a reduced menu due to staff shortage. There was nothing much on the reduced sandwich list that I eat, but I asked if I could possibly have a cheese baguette and was told this was ok. It cost me £8.45 and was served with no butter on the bread. A waitress said she would bring me butter but thought I should speak to a manager about the cost. I had not complained at this point. We waited and waited but no manager came. Having finally obtained butter for someone else, I started to eat but found the bread heavy and doughy. Baguettes should be light in texture, have a crispy crust and be light brown in colour. Mine was white, heavy and looked like one of those part baked ones that you have to finish off yourself in an oven. It was very cold and I will eat my hat if it had ever seen the inside of an oven! My husband was also disappointed with his jacket potato which he said tasted old, as if it had been cooked and heated up again several times over. By this time I was cross and asked to speak to the manager. Eventually someone came and said the manager was in a meeting but could she help. She agreed with me that the baguette was overpriced and looked unappetising and nothing like it should be . She said the problem was due to staff shortages and refunded me for the food. We were happy to pay for the tea and the excellent coffee but we will not be eating there again. We would have happily waited longer for our food to be prepared properly but expected it to be of a decent quality when it arrived. In the current economic climate when the catering trade is struggling to make up for two years of lockdown, it is folly to let standards slip. Percy Throwers is not the only restaurant where this is happening. It’s almost as if many hospitality venues have lost their mojo And this is a great pity.

We went in to the Percy Thrower garden Centre this morning. We took two bay trees ( price £175 each) and two Versailles type planters (price £50 each) to the checkout. We asked for them to be delivered. The price we were quoted was £60 for delivery for a mere seven miles!

Ok so it was after 2 in a Thursday when we arrived but there was no real choices of food or cake available or on show. Mum and I ended up both having scones and tea in a depressingly empty restaurant area with staff that looked like they would rather be elsewhere in a garden centre that had definitely seen far better days! Won’t be going again.

Had sandwiches. The spread was put on very thick in the middle of the bread and you could not taste the filling. Coleslaw not homemade so all in all not impressed. They were not busy. Tea was not hot either. This is the second time we have eaten here and both times disappointed. Won’t be back for food

Despite the change to Wyevale, I always find the staff in the garden centre part helpful and accommodating. Been several times recently purchasing plants etc.

Sadly as often happens it seems, fast bucks, large expansion and expensive development means that the care and courteous service simply disappear - such is the case with this once lovely garden centre. No atmosphere, you could be any one of 100s of garden centres across the UK; the individuality, the interest in you as a client, the appalling lack of knowledge of the staff, the mistakes at the till in the restaurant, the lack of choice - all the products you could get at any other similar garden centre - all add up to a decline in service and interest for the customer ........ Very Poor and the attitude of the staff was appalling - why ask for help if the staff haven't a clue.

Always used to use Dobbies for the handover of grandchildren, but the awful traffic jams have put us off. Percy Throwers garden centre was wonderful. No traffic problems! Plants of good quality. Extensive shop inside, could have spent all day there! Cafe adequate.Hot coffee and freshly made sandwiches. Staff helpful and friendly. Will definitely use this as a future handover point!

Having walked out of Costa Coffee down the road because the manager cannot cope with 4 people in a queue and deal with customers we went to Percy's for a coffee instead.

Afternoon tea with over cooked dry scones is one to be missed even if the offer is two for £10. The cakes and bread were all below par with only the drink and merengue hitting acceptable levels. Very disappointing start to the Easter holiday

It's like another variant of weather spoons. One barmaid was very nice and friendly, the other was just plain miserable, that let it down a bit, nice selection of beer and food and nice outdoor seating area.

What a find we were staying at Ludlow Touring site and booked Sunday lunch at The Wheatsheaf . The pub was really welcoming warm and comfortable. We were two couples who went for Sunday lunch and we all agreed it was the best Sunday lunch we had had at a pub and really good value . The beef and lamb were really tender and there was a good selection of vegetables all cooked perfectly. The service was good and nothing too much trouble. Thank you for making our first visit a success

A very old English style cafe/ dining spot. Me and my mother highly regard the genuineness and traditional expertise of the food and impression given by the place. We spoke to both the chef and waiter of whom gave a friendly and professional manners. We had a talk about how tasty the homemade chips were. I will be going back there again. That is a definite. Thank you for awesome food and a quiet and homely experience.
