Just back from eating the nicest fish and chips I have ever had! Portion size was very generous & tasted delicious. All the staff were super friendly and the decor is lovely. Highly recommended, will definitely be back

Stayed here overnight plus had dinner on arrival. From first impressions onwards, everything was excellent! The decor of the whole building is a lovely blend of traditional with modern touches, a really sympathetic remodelling of this early 1900s toll house building. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. The carpets throughout the rooms section are incredible soft in that they clearly have top-notch underlay! The bed was large if a little hard, but there were enough pillows and cushions. Enough storage for a night or two but not for a longer stay. There was a kettle and coffee machine with a mini hamper of assorted hot drinks including Horlicks! No fridge, but we were asked if we wanted milk and water when we checked in and the milk came in a flask. Home-made biscuits were also provided, a lovely touch. The bathroom was well equipped with White Company toiletries in what I hope are refilled larger containers. There was a wall-mounted toothbrush charger, brilliant! There was a fan and also an air conditioning unit, although I don’t know if the latter was switched on (we didn’t need it anyway). Despite being right on a major road junction, the room was surprisingly quiet, even with the modern extra glazing open to allow some of the night air in through the (unopenable) old sash windows. Onto food! We had reserved a table for dinner before arriving. The restaurant is spacious and tables are well apart but it has a nice feel. There are a good range of choices on the menu to suit most tastes including vegetarian, possibly vegan, options. My husband had pigs in blankets for his starter(!) which he loved; I had very tasty tempura salt and pepper squid with excellent light batter. For our mains, my husband had the pork chop, which was fine, and I had the absolutely superb Lancashire cheese and onion pie, which was a serious taste revelation! Breakfast the next morning was also very good, with hot food clearly done to order - my scrambled egg was some of the best I have ever had in a commercial setting. A nice large pot of tea for two, which did make two good sized cups each, and a very good indeed fresh fruit pot were the other highlights. All the staff we met were friendly and helpful. There is a lift to the bedroom floors and our room was fully accessible, the bathroom being particularly well done as a full wet room with many grab rails, lower sink and higher toilet. The location is very good, close to the centre and about 10 minutes’ walk to the station. We would highly recommend this hotel!

Fantastic meal, came for a family birthday meal out. 15 of us and food came out promptly and all hot. We will definitely return.

Stayed the night here to visit son in university, booked evening meal as well. Food was really good quality and service was very good and friendly. Food is clearly freshly cooked, they have a standard menu and then daily specials. One course filled us up, no room for pudding. The room we stayed in was spacious, very clean and comfortable with a large shower room. Breakfast was excellent as well, plenty of choices, I of course went for the full English. If you’re looking for somewhere to stay in Lancaster I would recommend here.

We all had fish and chips, so can’t comment on anything else, albeit the menu is limited, for me, that is my personal choice. The waitress gave us good advice on whether to have the small or large portion. The small portion was more than ample, the fish was beautiful, however, the chips (probably down to quality of potatoes) weren’t good, so left them, didn’t detract from the lovely fish. Would return for the fish.

The welcome was great from Will when we arrived. There was a board with our name in the car park space - please note you need to book one of the 4 spaces beforehand to allow on site parking. The room was well maintained with good facilities and decor throughout although the mattress was way too hard for us. The food in the restaurant is of excellent quality - we had fish and chips and believe me it was good - fish quality, batter very light, chips tasty, good mushy peas. Service in the restaurant was very fast! With dishes being delivered promptly and attentive staff. All in all a great place to stay.

These were our first fish and chips in the British Isles (on this particular trip). They were also the unexcelled standard—and we enjoyed many other efforts. Astoundingly light, clean, and succulent, this fish was extraordinary. We also had the Sunday roast which was generous and luscious. Kind service, though we arrived just before closing. This is a true find and I'm glad for you who are closer to this restaurant than we are (5500 miles away).

A delightful pub to meet friends. Staff kind and did not rush us. Sat in the courtyard it felt like being on holiday in the sun. Somewhere that is on my frequent visit list now its a nice venue. Only downside the womens toilet cubicles so small to get in and no hook for a bag. Also a toilet roll holder would be a nice/essential item I would like to see for next time. But, well worth going to this pub

Stayed here as a present for my dads 80th Birthday, We had 2 rooms , 4 adults and a dog. Rooms were clean and spacious, with everything you could need. Tea, Coffee, hot Chocolate and Horlicks. Milk was fresh from behind bar with a mini flask. Home made biscuits supplied. Shampoo and shower gel/ hand wash in bathroom. Towels changed daily and beds made and everything restocked. We had an evening meal our first night which was very good, all enjoyed different meals. Breakfast was great choices of cereals/ porridge/ etc. Then choices of full breakfast and other options. Juice and as much tea n coffee as you want.Also toast. Staff were all very pleasant, friendly and helpful, they are all a credit to the establishment. Thank you for an enjoyable stay. Would defiantly stay again

Randomly came across the Toll House when googling afternoon tea in Lancaster last week. Decided to give it a try for 6 of us on Saturday. We are all glad we did. I can't explain how impressed we were, from the warm welcome, the quality of the food, the variety/freshness, service and the price. We regularly go out as a group of girls for AT and our last trip to a well know spa hotel in Newby Bridge was nothing compared to this, overpriced/generic and pretty poor. We will 110% be back again for food as everything coming out of the kitchen looked delicious!

Just returned from a golf trip and stayed here.Lovely hotel great food booked in was allocated our room opened the door to find it already occupied by another couple.Asked them why they were in our room they replied it was theirs so we said what number are you and they gave the room next door number and grabbed their gear and disappeared into it.Went down to reception and asked them how they could have entered our allocated room with next doors keycard got fobbed off then asked for our room to be re sanitized as per covid rules because someone had been in it and were then told if we didn't like it we could check out.Not wanting to cause a fuss and spoil it for the rest of our golfing party we self sanitized the room ourselves as best we could wiping down things we thought they may have touched like TV remote light switches etc but very unhappy with the staffs attitude over this matter

In these these difficult covid times getting a good lunch venue is not easy.Toll House easily obliged this week.We booked ahead with Nick and wasn`t disappointed.We chose the set lunch at £9 which was great value.I had steak and my partner had fish-both cooked to perfection.Service was prompt and efficient led by Nick and team.A glass of freshly opened Prosecco came with the deal for only £3 extra!Dessert was outstanding.I had the Sticky toffee pudding and `erindoors had a wonderful apple crumble served in the most stylish metal container with handle.Coffee was even included in the sweet deal for £5!Our entire lunch bill came to £54 with G&T`s(doubles) included.The chef here deserves praise for maintaining a high standard.It was nice to see the spacious dining room was well supported at lunch.It`s hard for these hospitality guys at present.Keep up the good work Toll House.

Visited with my son for 2 days in August. Booking.com had made an error with the booking and the hotel were fabulous... Joe swapped around rooms to enable us to stay when somehow the rooms had been cancelled. The rooms were great for a short stay; breakfast was excellent with really great service from all staff. Would highly recommend it. We also had dinner there one night, and that too was excellent.

We had to call the restaurant to explain we were stuck on the M6 on the way up and so would be late...they couldn’t have been more helpful and accommodating. Up visiting and we wanted a nice meal out so we were recommended the Toll House Inn by family that live nearby. Very impressed with both our starters and mains. Couldn’t fault it! Friendly service in a nice atmosphere. Considering it was a Thursday night it was fairly busy which tells you something!! I really recommend the crispy chilli beef tacos as a starter! Delicious. For my main I had the pan fried chicken that went down brilliantly. My boyfriend had steak as per and he said it was cooked perfectly. Thank you!!

Always love coming to the Toll House and last night did not disappoint at all.... in fact we would say it's even better. The menu choice catered for us all ....in particular the lamb starter, the sirloin steak, the maple pecan desert ...but all the dishes were delicious and all the family were happy. We felt very safe, it was very clean and the atmosphere was very relaxed.... a perfect place to go for our first inside restaurant meal since the pandemic started. The service from all the staff was great but particularly our young waiter was excellent and looked after us brilliantly. We will definitely be back. Keep up the great work. THANKYOU !

This was our first visit to the Toll House Inn but certainly won’t be our last. The food was excellent, really delicious, beautifully presented and reasonably priced too. The staff were attentive and the service was quick. Felt very Covid safe with hand gel at the entrance and a separate exit and one way system. Overall it was a wonderful experience and we are looking forward to returning in the near future.

Just in town for one night and took pot luck on dinner venue.100 % reccomend this place.Attentive professional service . A chilled bottle of water on table ( without asking) . Just had room for two main courses ..Buttermilk chicken burger which was delicious with skin on chips and Lancaster pie with buttered greens ( mange tout and cabbage ) and I swopped chips for salad when arrived was big tasty and juicy mixed salad . Large Flaky cheese and onion pie which was delicious. My photos dont do food justice so wont add. Well done Toll House Inn both front of house and kitchen staff. Plus refreshing to note gratuities are shared between ALL staff which is a rarity.

Greeted by a very friendly member of staff that due to being fully booked I was taken to the beer garden to have a drink while waiting for my friend to come. Table service in the beer garden. The service for drinks was very quick. Was offered to sit in the beer garden to eat which we accepted. Food took a while but it was made to order and oub was busy so we were fine with that. Restaurant and bar very busy but very well spaced out. £5.80 for a large chardonnay. Quite a variety of drinks of wine , beer , gins , cocktail, etc. I ordered the pork belly with braised pork cheek , black pudding mash , crispy kale and a cider and shallot caramel sauce. Usually £14. The menu is quite varied with salads , fish and chips, steak , piec, Thai curry, Indian curry and more so classic pub grub variety. Pork belly was beautiful , the mash was so creamy and the blackpudfing infused with it was a good touch, the kale was very well cooked and the sauce complimented the dish so well. I also had the sweetcorn fritters which were nice enough and different but for me a one time thing. We visited here for a meal yesterday evening. We have been many times in the past and have always had a good experience. They have implemented plenty of measures in relation to coronavirus which is reassuring to see. The food was really nice and we both enjoyed our meals. The service was very efficient and the staff were very friendly too. We would certainly recommend this place to others.

Brilliant social distancing food fab as always. Both had tempura prawns gorgeous big prawns. Hu by had fish and chips lovely and fresh and I had seabass which was yum!!

This is the seond time me and my partner have eaten here since the re-opening of restaurants after lockdown and both visits have been amazing. I've found some eateries have smaller menu's which is understandable in the current climate however I feel where some lack choice or creativity the Toll House does not. Their signature dishes and burgers are delicious but the seasonal dishes which often change are equally fab and I struggle to choose, which is always a good sign. The service is welcoming and professional too, keep up the good work.

It's never a good sign when the dining room smells of fried food, and this was the case at the Toll House Inn. The crispy beef tacos were very good, apparently, but the chickpea fritters were stodgy and dry. Caesar salad was average, with tasteless chicken but the cheese and onion pie was good. Very large portions, jazz music in the background and no atmosphere - not my thing and would not return.

We ate at the Toll House last Saturday night and Sunday morning whilst staying in one of the lovely rooms. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The place felt so spacious which is a welcome surprise compared with a lot of places at the minute, but there was still a fab atmosphere. Staff were very attentive but clearly well trained on covid procedures. We felt very safe and will definitely be returning, thank you.

Me and my boyfriend came here for our first proper outing after lockdown and we were so impressed with everything! We picked the chicken breast wrapped in Serrano ham & the lamb leg steak and both were phenomenal! The dessert selection was small but still really impressive. Only thing I’d say to improve on is to add more coconut cream to the strawberry shortcake! Will definitely return!

Came here for lunch and ordered a chicken burger, chicken kebab and children’s meal of chicken and chips. Food was amazing! Very high quality chicken and cooked beautifully. The chicken kebab was made with thigh meat and was succulent and divine. Staff were very welcoming, especially James who came over several times to chat with us and ensure everything was ok with the food.Would highly recommend this place, cosy, welcoming and lush!

The menu is great with loads of tempting choices for a range of people. I found the service frustrating; I had to ask specifically about 10 ten times before they gave me a pint of tap water with no ice. And at the end Id ordered a hot chocolate which came with lots of toppings that weren't offered or mentioned on the menu or in ordering. I don't think I'd go back, despite the food being lovely.

The restaurant is nice but when you order chicken skewers from the main menu and you receive chicken with skin on it’s slightly odd. The bar person then said they was chicken from the thigh, which isn’t mentioned, since when are skewers made from thigh. His reply was it’s his favourite. Basically cheap meat. It was suppose to come with rice and they got that wrong it came with chips, bar person didn’t seem to care about this situation came over a bit rude and for £13.50 for one chicken thigh skewer it’s poor. Such a shame it ruined our meal out tonight.

Spent a wild and woolly Saturday night here at the height of storm Ciara - the triple glazing was amazing - we could see the storm raging outside and the traffic battling through it but we couldn't hear a thing. Two adults and a teenager had a great nights sleep in the super comfy beds. (and our greyhound snored all night in the corner!) Topped off with a lovely breakfast. (recommend the kedgeree) Cant wait to go back.

We called in for meals on Sat night and found the whole experience very pleasant. The staff were friendly and attentive. All 4 of us decided to have steaks which were cooked differently with various sauces. They came reasonably quickly and all 4 were cooked perfectly and the sauces were all excellent.

26 of us ate here on a Saturday night in the lovely private dining area. The atmosphere and service were great. The food was fine. I ate tempura this ravens which were satisfactory - could ha e been a little crispier. I had wrongly ordered the aubergine curry in advance which I regretted when I saw the other dishes coming out. Mine was dry - the others looked much tastier.

Lived in Lancaster for years and have been everywhere else. Fancied something for a change on NYD with family. We went for the Toll House. Well what a good choice. We walked in a little early, not a problem we were greeted and seated by a friendly waiter who took our drinks order. By the time he came back with the drinks(2 mins) the table was ready. We slowly made our way over. The waitress came and asked if we were ready to order. We asked for more time. She fine with that and came back a little later. We ordered our food and it all came at the same time around 14 mins later. Everyone enjoyed their food and there was a large variation in what we ordered. The staff were very helpful and seemed happy. The kids ordered puddings and we had another drink. We weren't rushed at all and played a couple of table games with the kids. The place was busy and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. I saw no complaints or food going back and it all looked as good as ours. The place had a nice vibe. Overall really good. I thanked the head waiter before leaving. He was very appreciative. I would definitely go back.

Once again our visit to the Toll House Inn for lunch was lovely, the staff are always very helpful and friendly, nothing too much trouble.

The layout of the Toll House Inn was lovely and there were nice Christmas decorations. Food was good and the staff were friendly.

Had a family meal this evening in a private dining room, the service was excellent, the room was really nice , A pleasure to spend a couple of hours in with a meal that was excellent, the steak was perfect I always wonder exactly how it will be when I order a fillet steak medium, it was perfect tender and tasty everything was just perfect I would definitely recommend it,

Visited Lancaster during the October half term. Picked here to eat due to good reviews and we weren't disappointed. The Lancashire cheese and onion pie was delicious and huge! There's a good children's menu too. We all enjoyed our meals but were too full for pudding. The building and decor was lovely too. Would definitely recommend.

Wanted a hotel in town but easy access to university about 2 miles away. This fitted the bill and was a reasonable price. Excellent modern room with great shower, really friendly staff. Decided to eat at hotel and it was full- always a good sign. Great meal at reasonable price. Only issue is parking but that is the same for all the hotels here. Good news is there is one two minutes away. Will stay again

My expectations were not high enough. I was pleasantly surprised at how lovely the room, the staff and the food. I have had a wonderful stay here. I have to recommend the hotpot pudding - it is perfect comfort food but much much better than that. Loved it!

We had a very nice sunday lunch - all the trimmings - very well presented and cooked.

On a 4 day golf trip with small party of 5,staying 3 nights.

An old building converted to a hotel/bar, this is literally only a few minutes walk from the city centre. Friendly staff, you check in at the bar. The room was really good, comfy bed and great shower. Food was very good too, and a great selection of beers. There is only a few parking spaces that belong to the Inn, so I parked in a 24 hr open air car park just across the road. It was £9 for 24 hrs, payable only in cash or by mobile phone. That took about 3 mins to sort.

Stopped in here for a coffee before we went on a canal trip across the road in Lancaster. We ended up having a light lunch as the menu was tempting. I had a fish finger sandwich with a portion of chips (both delicious). We sat outside in the beer garden but inside was very nice. I think I'd like to come back and stay. Staff were very nice.

I had recommended for my family to stay at the toll house while they visited me for my birthday weekend, it did not disappoint! They all had a lovely stay, the rooms were modern and spacious. We had a delicious meal on the Friday night and breakfast was also good! Lovely weekend!

We called in for a Coffee, whilst doing a circuit with the dog. The Manager very helpful and friendly, offered us best place to sit with dog, gave us water bowl for him and also dog biscuits. We had coffee, served in large mugs - Yippee ! Very good place I think, to try a meal there, from first impressions of staff.
