Hest Bank Inn in Lancaster

We usually visit this pub when in Morecambe, so have visited about 6 times previously. Today, we ordered the lunch menu which includes a drink. The menu clearly states that a cask ale is available as part of the deal. Normally I have a pint of Wainwrights as part of the meal deal, but was told today that only 2 x lagers or a cider were on the offer. I made the point to the officious lady who seated us and took our order that I had always had the cask ale included, but she refused to let me have and said that I must have paid extra for it previously, which was clearly not the case. I found her attitude condescending and quite unpleasant and was in 2 minds to go elsewhere. On the plus side the food was good and the service from the other 2 staff members on duty was fine. I would recommend some customer relations training for the lady in question, who seemed to be the person in charge. I would question if we would return again after this experience.

My husband and I had a meal from the lunch menu I had the fish and chips (delicious) My husband had the sausage and mash which he said was equally delicious Lovely environment and the landlady was absolutely lovely We will be back

this place has had a new management team and, having eaten there as a family previously, we were overwhelmed yesterday by the friendly welcome and service! the food was great and a wide choice of menu meant everyone was happy. noticed they are offering money off for kids dining over Easter weekend too so expect to be back soon!

Booked a table through the pub's website well in advance of our visit but on arrival, we were told that the kitchen had closed. When we explained that we had made a reservation through Open Table - the link to Open Table is front and centre on the pub's website - the senior member of staff informed us that they had not checked for online bookings before sending the kitchen staff home. Their apology was genuine but hardly helpful. We immediately rebooked at the Cross Keys, about 15 min walk away which was still serving food late into the evening.

Nice garden by the canal. Called in again for lunch had the burgers absolutely spot on

we came for lunch on a saturday afternoon after learning it had new owners that we knew from a previous resteraunt they had in Morecambe, The food and service was excellent. its a lovely venue in a nice area. We will be back again soon.

The service here is lovely and very friendly and it is a nice building. However I was not blown away by the food. I had a steak and ale pie and the pastry was soggy. I am sure it said on the menu it came with veg but it was just served with garden peas. I did pass on the remarks and was told this would be relayed to the chef.

Lovely location. Quaint old pub. Visited for Sunday roast (beef and pork) and wasn't disappointed, only wished we'd come sooner. Food excellent. Service friendly and attentive.

Good food, slow service. Not enough staff on .

I came with high expectations, we had the Sunday roast, unfortunately the beef was very chewy and I think the carrot had taken on some water, as they were firm on the outside and spongy in the middle. Everything else was lovely. The staff were excellent, very friendly, but all in all really disappointing.

Very accommodating to our party of 10. Bit of a squeeze where we were sat but no complaints! Great food at a decent price, lovely classic pub atmosphere. Kind and courteous staff. 10/10 would recommend.

Good Ale!! Although we didn’t eat here we had good drinks with a nice atmosphere & attentive staff we will be back in the new year for food

An excellent meal, with very friendly service. A relaxed atmosphere, no rush to leave, very quiet for the time of year!

Well worth seeking out this place if you are ever in Morecambe, a proper old style boozer which has survived the trend of modernisation which most pubs have fallen under. Shirl, the deputy Manager, was welcoming and very friendly and looked after us the whole time we were there for lunch. The menu was extensive and although we both had the same we can see the standard of food was excellent. The steak and ale pie was to die for, proper handmade pie stuffed with meat and the best gravy i have tasted for years. I look forward to my next visit!

The place is great and has plenty of places to sit. We were a big group and we had to preorder our food. Upon arriving, they didn't have our order. This was because a member of staff had us send it to their personal email and they were not in work. So the wait for food was longer than we expected. We all had roast dinners besides 1 person and the food was good for the most part. However, some items were missing and one member of our group found a hair in the food. Service was lacking at times, although the staff were friendly.

The is a quiet pub that has a good selection of beers. I had the pork belly bits and they were delicious and when well as a snack with my beer.

What a cosy pub with a warm atmosphere and friendly staff! Did was delicious and generosly portioned, great value. Good real ale. Huge dessert, totally gorgeous and goey. Loved this place wish we lived nearer.

Ordered the Rump Steak and it was cooked to perfection. Thoroughly enjoyed every bite of food eaten. The service was great and attentive. If I was to grumble about anything and it's really minor, would prefer personally to have my cutlery given before the meal comes out and not have to wait with the food infront of me waiting for cutlery. It was a matter of a minute, and the only reason I knocked a star off. The homey and quirky style layout of the pub was welcoming, decor was lovely, and the live band in the other room was a nice an unexpected touch, not overpowering and great to listen to. Will definitely revisit and would be happy to take friends along

Enjoyed an evening meal with friends, the staff were very efficient.

I had a Sunday lunch there. The food was good but there was just to much. I had a starter, soup, which was very nice. Then my main course came the portions were just so over powering I should not have had the soup. So be careful if you go because it will just outface you.

After a short walk along the canal from Carnforth you reach The Hest Bank. Situated just back from the canal, lies this lovely old coaching Inn, with plenty of seating options on different levels both inside and outside. We popped in this week and we weren't disappointed. Lovely friendly welcome from the lady behind the bar. Good choice of Real Ales and lagers available, we sat in the bar area and it had a great atmosphere, a few locals, a few tourists and a few dogs, overall a great mix. Definitely worth a visit

Lovely countryside pub in a beautiful location .The food is always top notch 👌 great choice of food to tantalise the taste buds 😋 great chef 👨‍🍳 and lovely friendly bar staff Steph was very helpful and welcoming . We happened across this pub on a walk along the Lancaster canal from Carnforth. We popped in for lunch and were welcomed warmly by Steph who introduced the menu and brought us our chosen drinks. The food was freshly prepared, tasty and good value. The pub was a lovely old building on different levels and was well worth the visit. Don't miss it if you're on the Bolton le Sands area.

After a long day at work I came to the Hest Bank with colleagues for a drink, we were greeted by Steph who politely asked us if we would be dining, when we declined steph offered us a menu to look at for future. The place was very clean & the food looked lovely. We will be in again very soon.

We have eaten here in the past and had no complaints but this we were disappointed with meal the Mix Grill poor - portion of meats small everything fitted onto a average dinner plate. Fish and chips were ok.

Great tasty food and friendly staff

Was passing by Hest Bank on my long journey from very south of England to Scotland; as I stopped there was a bit of a delay in food service in the kitchen so I decided not to order - I then left the pub and only realised that I left my jumper two days later, I explained the whole situation to the pub and they sent me the jumper back without asking for any postage, the customer service side of it couldn't of been any nicer - there is still some good people out there :)

Impromptu stop whilst looking for a lunch venue with a friend. Unfortunately we are both disabled, me using a walking trolley and my friend in a wheelchair and although the inn is lovely it has a lot of internal steps. I managed to get up the 2 steps to go to the loo but found to order at the bar were several more steps. The staff hearing my clattering getting my walker up the steps came to see me and said she would come to the table for our order. We were both undecided on the same 2 choices but on the recommendation of Steph both chose the Stilton and garlic mushroom burger, great choice. The came with proper chips, a small pot of extra garlic mushrooms, the burger was delicious the meat was moist and juicy, the mushrooms very garlicky and the chips perfect. Over lunch we both had 2 lattes and spent a good 2-3 hours catching up on gossip, family matters and putting the world to rights. I would recommend the inn, the staff and food to any one looking for a meal but beware if you’re disabled it’s probably not the right place.

Food was OK but lacked colour only veg on offer were peas and asked for side salad and received a portion of caesar salad, not a tomato or cucumber in sight. Not what we're used to eat

Went with friends for Sunday lunch. Our meals were stone cold. Would not recommend at all. Plenty of other good places to eat in the area.

The place is lovely and the staff are so friendly and welcoming, especially Steph who helped us source a gift voucher for our friends to sample the food and atmosphere. We had snacks from the bar menu which were delicious and filling and the kids had home made pizza. A great little pub with a traditional atmosphere and friendly staff.

Went for lunch at hest bank pub... got told chefs car has broke down,so limited menu and Shirley was cooking...Well I had one of best mixed grills I've had,and my girlfriend had a double cheese and mushroom burger..absolutely fantastic service from steph and the food was delicious...ohh we will be back..thank you for perfect lunch ..

We went to Hest Bank today as a family, myself and my husband amd 2 children. We were greeted by a lovely friendly lady, Steph, who looked after us whilst there. The food was amazing and so was the ambience of this whole place! We honestly could not fault it and will be back, there were empty plates all round!! The manager Shirley also Cole over to say hello ans introduce herself. Such a lovely, homely personal feel to this place and we loved it so much we are going away Friday evening for dinner! There is nothing negative to say about Hest Bank, juat give it a try...you will not be disappointed!!

We’re six friends who met while on holiday in Austria this summer, we all traveled from different parts of the Country for this meet up, we decided on a first get together for today the 29th of August, we chose Hest Bank Inn because of the excellent reviews and we were not disappointed. Good menu and lovely food served piping hot by super friendly staff who joined in our laughter and fun. Would highly recommend this place, we could not have chosen a better venue for our first reunion. A super time was had by all and thank you very much to the staff for helping to make it such a good experience! x

The new manager is a huge narcissist. Not keen on him at all. The food is microwaved and quite bland but I blame the management not the chef's. The place is a joke. It used to be such a lovely pub back in the day...

The staff are really friendly and the beer garden is very pretty. The inside of the pub is large with lots of separate rooms. The Sunday roast wasn't the best I have ever had but certainly wasn't bad.

Stopped off for a drink and a snack midway through a bike ride. Very tasty food....

It's a lovely spot, just a shame about the pub/food itself. The staff are very unprofessional and the food was expensive for what seemed like reheated/microwaved stuff. I'd expect home cooked food when paying these prices. Wouldn't recommend eating there. The Canal Turn in Carnforth...

Best Crumble in the world. This is a great pub, great food, great service and a great atmosphere. If you live close by, you lucky sods. If you are in the area, it's well worth a stop or a detour.

2nd visit here. Food and service both really good. 2 of us, both had steak, perfectly cooked medium rare. Delicious sweets, Cartmel sticky toffee pudding and Eton mess.

We spent ages looking for for somewhere to eat and came across this little gem. The food was lovely every month full just tasted home cooked and hearty.

New owners so really tried to support them…… tried it 4 time each time the food had been terrible from cold food to the wrong food then just terrible tasting food! Really hope this place gets better but won’t be going back for a few...

Great traditional pub sat right against the canal at Hest Bank. Wide range of beers and other drinks which can be enjoyed in the large rear garden. Not tried the food as I wasn't hungry, although it looked very nice.

Our first visit in many years. We were the only ones in as we arrived, but 3 other people arrived as we were ordering. Staff very attentive and food good. With it being so quiet, it lacked a bit of atmosphere.

Place was clean and well decorated, staff were friendly and helpful, food - chicken and ham pie and scampi was very nice. Wine and beer very good. Atmosphere was pleasant, you can hear people talking but it wasn't loud and there was no music which sometimes can be overpowering. We would go again.

Really great food, had the mixed grill which was amazing. Seated five of us without prior notice and food was out quickly. Would happily recommend.

AMAZING FOOD AND SERVICE, AND GREAT VALUE, VERY CLEAN, WELL LAID OUT WITH VERY POLITE ATENTIVE STAFF.

We only got desserts this day, but they were top notch. A really large portion of cookie dough, which you would probably call a triple chocolate cake elsewhere.

Let’s start with the service, I want to thank Shirley and the team that looked after our Graduation celebration. They were attentive, pleasant and added to a happy vibe. They handled all our requests well. The food was very good and a pleasant expectation to pub food. Portions were well sized and desserts were defo a winner with us all. The venue itself provided plenty of space and had lots of areas to enjoy the sunshine and sit outside in the very pleasant beer garden with a pleasant view. This was an great venue and I would definately come back and an even better location to celebrate birthday or an place for a celebration like ours. Thanks Hest team we felt extremely welcome.

Service was good but food for one of the family was aweful. No attempt to resolve the issue by staff. The ceaser salad was for a vegetarian so without chicken. The kitchen were unable to add anyhthing else to replace the chicken, even after asking...

Great food as usual- can recommend the burgers but everyone’s good that passed us looked really good. Friendly, helpful staff. Beer garden is clean, tidy, child & dog friendly. Loads of shade if you want it. It’s a great pub for both locals & visitors.

Literally never felt so unwelcome, we arrived as sparty of 6, my parents stayed in the car while I went to ask if we could sit inside with a small dog, completely ignored my two members of staff, walked straight past us, didn't realise business...

We stopped here for a pint & lunch on a Tuesday. Great service from Shirley & Maria. Food was lovely - Veggie sausages & mash were delicious, as was the double cheeseburger & chips. Would highly recommend.

We did not eat here, just stopped off on the way back to the boat. There was a problem with their card machine so you had to use cash. We had a pint of Atlantic each, and it was the worst pint we've had, so much so we threw the last bit away....awful. The pub looked nice though, we sat outside in the garden which was large and had plenty of tables. We won't be going back there in a hurry.

We went to the Hest Bank for a family Father’s Day meal. The staff were friendly, the service was excellent and the food was absolutely delicious. I would definitely recommend. We will certainly be returning.
