I visited Saturday after a walk along the canal, I sat down ordered my food, it felt very rushed. It was lunchtime so Light Bites menu I went for the fish meal. It was very small portion for the price . I have eaten bigger portions of light bites in other places. I thought in a lovely place like Hest bank for locals & tourists the welcome & food quality would have been much better. I definitely will not return.

Great pub, good for food and drinks and canal side garden, now has music days, dog friendly, weekly quiz nights (wed 8.00pm) Great friendly attentive staff. Weekly meal deal, main course and drink, thinks it's £12, great value.

Disappointing chicken wrap using frozen chicken. Part of meal deal including a drink for £12 but the 2 pieces of frozen chicken, wrap and chips probably only cost 1.50. children liked their food but was also straight from the freezer. When your waitress says the chef isn't very smart it's probably time to change the menu or the chef. It was deserted for lunch in half term. Should have been full. Excellent service regardless of the food and very good cappuccino. Not sure if they have new owners since we were last in but they definitely need to serve fresh not frozen food if they want customers.

Food was great, no complaints at all with that. But service was slow and poor. Long wait for order to be taken and we had to go looking for someone after around 25 minutes in order to place our order. For 4 people. We then had to go looking for someone again to order deserts as no one was attentive. Same applied to getting and paying the bill. Staff definitely need training in customer service and simply being more observant. We have been a few times over the past year and this seems to happen a lot.

We were staying in a lodge nearby and googled Sunday lunches, this place is in a lovely spot, we parked near the level crossing, had a walk on the beach, over the hill to a cafe on a farm then walked along the canal path. It’s a very old pub, 1500’s? it’s quirky with low ceilings and little private nooks. Sunday roast was excellent as was their apple & raspberry crumble, staff were friendly and prices reasonable. Important to us dog friendly and we treated our pooch to a ‘Woofchester’ fish dinner she wolfed it down. Would recommend.

Personally we now avoid this place. The reason for this review is because I forgot to leave one last time we were there. We booked a table, and then when we got the table ,we didn’t see anyone for ages,no drinks no menus, after eventually getting drinks snd then again wanting to order food. So we decided to go to the bar, where we were told they were that busy there weren’t taking food orders for half an hour. So we waited then realised people were getting food orders taken at the bar by another member of staff. It was a bizarre couple of hours, shambolic to say the least. There were 6 of us and we were all in agreement that it was the worst service,or not as the case would be,any of us had had for a long time. Reason for review,I asked for my name to be taken of there mailing list. But today received a voucher of them for £10 off Xmas meals. Thanks for reminding me to leave the review. I suggest you take my email address of your system as I asked.

I think there's been a change of ownership since we last visited. The portions are much smaller, although tasty. A small slice of sourdogh bread with thinly sliced garlic mushrooms (tasty) x 3, a bowl of thick carrot and corriander soup and baking hot 'part baked' bread for starters. The steak and ale pie would've fit in the palm of my hand! The burgers have shrunk in size, my lasagne was served in a shallow 9" square skillet with the 'salad' more of a garnish of baby leaves, 2 halves of a thin slice of cucumber and a slice of raddish. The fritata with cheese and tomato would've fit into my other hand! The fruit crumble was mouth burning hot and overcooked/reheated as the topping seemed more like a flapjack than the traditional crumble topping. Somewhat understaffed, I had to gently interrupt staff chatting to ask for our reserved table. There was a distinct lack of interest in table service as we felt the need to go to the bar to get our own drinks after being seated for 20 minutes. Not a single smile from the younger waiting staff, a far more experienced lady with a genuine smile served our desserts and coffee, which again we had to go to the bar to order. There is not much thought placed on vegetarian options. It's expensive for what you get or in the case of service 'didn't get'. It's still a nice canal side venue for drinks, but I don't think it'll be a first choice for eating again. Poor service can be forgiven on a busy evening with a lack of staff but portion sizes vs. price not.

Usual experience not found on this visit. Sadly the service was poor and the bar staff was chewing gum. We ordered a sharing board at £18.99 and it came on a plate with 3 sausages, 4 chicken wings, burnt flat bread and some mayo. Very poorly presented. The outdoor area was dirty and had dog poo and dirty serviettes. Rotten tables and told by bar staff that the toilets are dirty, and to expect them to be not a place to visit- they were right. Where is the management? Sadly will not be returning, and definitely will not recommend.

The pub is quite nice inside but a little shabby and the food wasn't really what you'd expect for the price you pay. I ordered half roast chicken with red slaw and skin on fries. It was tasty but not well.presented and at 18.95 very overpriced for what it was. Hubby ordered roast dinner with no carrots ...he got the carrots beef very chewy. . The lady that took our order was very nice and fitted us in when we hadn't booked for Sunday lunch at peak time so that was good customer service. It's not the worst place I've eaten at but not the best and for the high end prices they are charging you will be dissapointed.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at the Hest Bank Hotel with a group of four adults and six children, and I must say, it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. The menu offered a wonderful selection of mains and desserts that catered to both adults and children. Our group enjoyed the roast chicken, chicken schnitzels, and lasagne—all of which were cooked to perfection. The roast chicken was succulent and flavorful, the schnitzels were crispy and tender, and the lasagne was rich and comforting, a true crowd-pleaser. The kids' meals were equally impressive, with high-quality ingredients and generous portions that pleased even the pickiest eaters. It's rare to find a place that puts as much effort into their children's menu as they do the main menu, and the Hest Bank Hotel excels in this regard. Service was another highlight of our visit. The staff were attentive, friendly, and efficient, making sure that our large group was well taken care of throughout the meal. They were quick to respond to any requests and ensured that our dining experience was smooth and enjoyable. Overall, the Hest Bank Hotel provided an exceptional dining experience for both adults and children. The quality of the food and the excellence of the service truly set it apart. We will definitely be returning and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a delightful meal in a welcoming atmosphere. Thanks for a lovely evening!

This is a lovely pub on the canal at Hest Bank. However a couple of niggles. We had a drink there last night. Good booze and reasonable prices. We decided to go back tonight and have a meal. We could not eat in the restaurant which was fine as we had our dog. We had to sit between the restaurant and the main part of the bar. There was a folk group singing there but when we arrived they took up most of the area. Their music was good and it would have bennice to listen to them but the piped music from the almost empty restaurant was so loud with a speaker just above our heads. My friend was getting really agitated as he had two competing styles of music paying in each ear. Why have a live band and play terrible music so loudly to almost no one. The steak and ale pie was OK drowned in a thick over salty sauce but I know this is how they eat in this area as I used to live here many years ago. My friend said his fish and chips were OK but could not recognise the fish. It did not say haddock or cod but for £14.50 you expect something decent. Instead it was pollock that dry tasteless fish that no self respecting restaurant would serve. You might be unlucky enough to get it in a cheap fish and chip shop for £8 or £9 quid. The two guys who were serving were welcoming and pleasant but it was a slightly disappointing experience. If you have good live music please don't drown it out with overloud garbage and if you are serving nasty cheap pollock for your fish and chips please put it on the menu so it can be avoided.

Food was delicious, we went for a Sunday dinner. However we were expecting portions to be bigger and offer a bit more to the Sunday dinner, so we did get additional sides. Sad to see there were no accompany of sauces or additional gravy. Could only describe the amount of gravy as being a little drizzle. However what massively let it down was the service of staff members. There were no check ins so if we wanted anything we had to go upstairs to the bar but even then when we did our request got ignored. Ordered a cocktail which didn’t match the menu description- lack of presentation also. We ended up asking two member of staff for the dessert menu and a replenish of drinks to which we waited half an hour for and typically this arrived to our table as we were putting our coats on. Left without any pudding as we weren’t waiting any longer, which left the kids bitterly disappointed.

The food is great but the service is terrible. One of the waiting staff informed the people in the table across from us that there were no wine glasses, so they would have to wait until the dishwasher had finished. I used to work in a bar I would have taken two glasses out of the dishwasher and bleedin' washed them. They had to wait 20 mins for their wine! They were later informed that their order had been 'lost' in the kitchen and that was after 40 mins or so. I would have had a dessert if anyone had bothered to come over and ask! Multi level seating for food and drinks, open fire for colder day and extended outside seating in the picture perfect beer garden. New landlords Helen and Jamie are busy putting their touch on this already amazing pub. Very popular with the locals as many of them coming in right on opening time. The Hest Bank is a 16th century pub and is one of them places you have to experience as photos don't do it justice... Serving food from the menu aswell as the new pizza oven on selected days. Boat Mooring also available for canal barges at the bottom of the carpark So an ideal stop off location. This quiet and sedate village is perfect for enjoying some me time. We usually visit this pub when in Morecambe, so have visited about 6 times previously. Today, we ordered the lunch menu which includes a drink. The menu clearly states that a cask ale is available as part of the deal. Normally I have a pint of Wainwrights as part of the meal deal, but was told today that only 2 x lagers or a cider were on the offer. I made the point to the officious lady who seated us and took our order that I had always had the cask ale included, but she refused to let me have and said that I must have paid extra for it previously, which was clearly not the case. I found her attitude condescending and quite unpleasant and was in 2 minds to go elsewhere. On the plus side the food was good and the service from the other 2 staff members on duty was fine. I would recommend some customer relations training for the lady in question, who seemed to be the person in charge. I would question if we would return again after this experience.

When we explained that we had made a reservation through Open Table - the link to Open Table is front and centre on the pub's website - the senior member of staff informed us that they had not checked for online bookings before sending the kitchen staff home. Well worth seeking out this place if you are ever in Morecambe, a proper old style boozer which has survived the trend of modernisation which most pubs have fallen under. Shirl, the deputy Manager, was welcoming and very friendly and looked after us the whole time we were there for lunch. The menu was extensive and although we both had the same we can see the standard of food was excellent. The steak and ale pie was to die for, proper handmade pie stuffed with meat and the best gravy i have tasted for years. I look forward to my next visit!

If I was to grumble about anything and it's really minor, would prefer personally to have my cutlery given before the meal comes out and not have to wait with the food infront of me waiting for cutlery. It was a matter of a minute, and the only reason I knocked a star off. The homey and quirky style layout of the pub was welcoming, decor was lovely, and the live band in the other room was a nice an unexpected touch, not overpowering and great to listen to. We happened across this pub on a walk along the Lancaster canal from Carnforth. We popped in for lunch and were welcomed warmly by Steph who introduced the menu and brought us our chosen drinks. The food was freshly prepared, tasty and good value. The pub was a lovely old building on different levels and was well worth the visit. Don't miss it if you're on the Bolton le Sands area.

After a long day at work I came to the Hest Bank with colleagues for a drink, we were greeted by Steph who politely asked us if we would be dining, when we declined steph offered us a menu to look at for future. The place was very clean & the food looked lovely. We will be in again very soon.

We have eaten here in the past and had no complaints but this we were disappointed with meal the Mix Grill poor - portion of meats small everything fitted onto a average dinner plate. Fish and chips were ok.

Impromptu stop whilst looking for a lunch venue with a friend. Unfortunately we are both disabled, me using a walking trolley and my friend in a wheelchair and although the inn is lovely it has a lot of internal steps. I managed to get up the 2 steps to go to the loo but found to order at the bar were several more steps. The staff hearing my clattering getting my walker up the steps came to see me and said she would come to the table for our order. We were both undecided on the same 2 choices but on the recommendation of Steph both chose the Stilton and garlic mushroom burger, great choice. The came with proper chips, a small pot of extra garlic mushrooms, the burger was delicious the meat was moist and juicy, the mushrooms very garlicky and the chips perfect. Over lunch we both had 2 lattes and spent a good 2-3 hours catching up on gossip, family matters and putting the world to rights. I would recommend the inn, the staff and food to any one looking for a meal but beware if you’re disabled it’s probably not the right place.

Was passing by Hest Bank on my long journey from very south of England to Scotland; as I stopped there was a bit of a delay in food service in the kitchen so I decided not to order - I then left the pub and only realised that I left my jumper two days later, I explained the whole situation to the pub and they sent me the jumper back without asking for any postage, the customer service side of it couldn't of been any nicer - there is still some good people out there :)

Food was OK but lacked colour only veg on offer were peas and asked for side salad and received a portion of caesar salad, not a tomato or cucumber in sight. Not what we're used to eat

Went with friends for Sunday lunch. Our meals were stone cold. Would not recommend at all. Plenty of other good places to eat in the area.

As with previous reviews we got caught out with the scam car park fees, there are no clear signs, why would you be looking for one? It’s a pub car park, as a tour guide who travels the U.K constantly I can’t think of another pub that operates a car park like this, to add insult to injury the food was distinctly average. My advice is if you are going for the Isle of Man ferry, eat on the boat and avoid this blatant scam.

A pleasant small pub with high quality ales, impressively decorated and decent entertainment on the Friday night I visited.

Just had a lovely meal here to celebrate my dad and husband's birthdays. The food was lovely and the staff were attentive without being too pushy - just right. The food quality was good value for money and we all enjoyed it. They responded to all my messages very positively when booking. The only disappointing thing was that it is not well supported by locals- Use it or lose it folks!

Absolutely brilliant find. Great beer. Great music. Great barmaid. Pool table. What more do you need ? It was a quiet Sunday night in Carnforth until we found this place !
