Well worth a visit and I would highly recommend the steak pie.

We often visit for drinks and buy tickets for the meat and beer raffle from behind the bar (Cash only). The atmosphere is always friendly and welcoming with a mixture of people, there’s live sport on the 2 x tvs and a dart board. Sadly no pool table. We stayed for food on this occasion and it didn’t disappoint, hunters chicken, burger, chicken tikka and lasagna, they were all home made and the portion size was really good. The cost was also really good value for money. Top tip if your in a vehicle is to make sure you add your registration into the tablet on the bar, this stops any parking tickets. There’s plenty of signs outside in the car park and inside the pub. The bar staff normally ask if you have a vehicle as well. Highly recommend and close to Ocean edge, beach, power stations and the port of Heysham.

Bar shut hour before promised closing time - Although locals were being served and not asked to leave.!! Very disappointed wouldnt advise anyone to book a function here.

I went with a friend with my 2 children and her disabled adult. The staff were fantastic, the food was excellent and the atmosphere was warm and friendly. The only negative is when my friend took her disabled adult to the disabled toilet, she found it also doubles up as a baby changing room. This cause an uncomfortable issue when my friend was in the toilet and a mother got the radar key from the staff and tried to enter. The parent wasn't very understanding and made her feel uncomfortable.

As with previous reviews we got caught out with the scam car park fees, there are no clear signs, why would you be looking for one? It’s a pub car park, as a tour guide who travels the U.K constantly I can’t think of another pub that operates a car park like this, to add insult to injury the food was distinctly average. My advice is if you are going for the Isle of Man ferry, eat on the boat and avoid this blatant scam.

what a joke £60 fine for pub car car park only in for 25mins , didnt see sign and no mention from bar staff wont be going in again , no wonder pubs are going under well done.

Last weekend,I was out with my daughter and grandkids when it poured down! We went to duke of rosthey for a hot drink(don't do them) so we got a drink and dessert instead. Yesterday through the post I got a £100fine saying I hadn't signed in! I never saw any signs and no one asked us if we'd signed in....it is not clear at all that you need to do this! I never went to the bar so never saw the sign in terminal....just another way to catch people out.....will never return!?!! So BE WARNED and AWARE of this.

We parked our car here for 3 days while we got the ferry to the Isle of Man. Staff were very helpful. We decided to stay for some lunch - food was nice. No issues with parking the car

Popped in for a bite after driving up to the Lakes, friendly staff & food was very tasty. Short drive then to caravan park across the way.

Came in around 4/4.30pm ish for an early dinner as we are staying nearby at the Parkdean caravan site. Google reviewers saying it's a 1* place..clearly not had as good experience as us. Bar staff was lovely she was helpful and friendly. Typed car reg into the tablet at the bar. Signs everywhere you can't miss it! It wasn't too busy but had usual customers by the bar enjoying themselves and a few families in. We ordered drinks and sat at a table. Some seats need reupholstering as very scruffy looking with wear and tear. Lighting in some areas was dark. Bit we sat at table 16 in a lovely alcove. Very light with windows (mind your head on the lampshade getting up though XD) Food was reasonably priced and they had a good choice in kids food also. However, the chicken nuggets were bland (great for younger kids who need that) my daughter didn't like them. But the chips were nice with salt. My food (hunters chips and lasagne) was very nice and hot! A rarity in some places. As was my mum's. (Ham egg and chips) Overall we had a pleasant experience and would recommend it to people staying in the area. It just goes to show that you shouldn't always judge a place by Google reviews.. (Sorry this was so long but you'll be glad you read it if thinking of going!)

£100 fine if you park on the car park and don’t register your van inside. Bleak miserable bar girls that look that they don’t want to be there, I must say I can’t blame them on that point. Food looked terrible, just glad I did not waste my money on it. I would say avoid the place like the plague,. It’s one of them pubs you walk in and no friendliness or smiles, but clicky looking with a few middle age/ older generation smirking at people. 1 star pub says it, and that’s being generous. Avoid there are many nice places a bit further away, so don’t spoil your day going here.

Nice Pint +, Miserable Staff, food is the absolute worst you could buy, If the caravan park (which is facing the pub) closed tomorrow so would the pub, as it would have no customers. Overall rating if you just want a quick pint fine, Do not buy food, Bar staff look look and act they are going to a funeral !

First of all, 1 young lady working to bar and running food since we came in until about 6ish. Food was ordered at 5.45, received starters at 6. Then got mains about 45 minutes for mains which isn't too bad considering 1 woman working in the kitchen herself and kitchen closing at 6.30. Plates from the starters weren't cleared before receiving our mains. Ribeye was asked to be well done, came basically rare. Obviously sent back which was fine, the server was helpful and apologetic. To then receive the steak back from the chef herself with her greys on and no sign of a chefs jacket nor hair net, slammed on the table and left. Even though she has to be called back to recook the steak before as she literally made our food and walked out finishing. The whole place is clearly under staffed and do not care about there clientele. Glasses were disgusting too. No cleanliness at all and we certainly won't be back. You're paying more than you should these days for good food and service and this is what you get given. Its my wife's birthday today and this is what she was given. Yes it was her steak. So you can imagine the downer this has placed on our evening.

My wife and I visited this pub on a couple of occasions during our recent stay at Oceans edge caravan park and we’re really impressed with the price and quality of the food and drink menus. The pub is a 20 minute walk from the park most of which is through a country park next to Heysham power station. The menu contained a good selection of freshly cooked meals and snacks all of which were very reasonably priced and considerably better quality and less expensive than the restaurant on the caravan park. In addition, the pub had a large selection of reasonably priced beers and spirits. The staff and regulars were very friendly and the food was excellent, great quality and piping hot. Would highly recommend a visit.

Food was decent, minty lamb pie, chips and peas, no other potato or veg options offered. Down side is the child behind the bar cannot pour a decent pint of Guinness and will not listen to any criticism of her method, she knows how to pull a pint she says, soa pint of Guinness is served in about 2 minutes. People who drink Guinness regularly know and expect to wait about 5/10 minutes for a pint.

Young girl working on her own pulling pints and serving food was rushed off her feet with no help terrible ribeye steak was like jelly and full of fat cooked raw chicken wings gross covered in a horrible batter and blood when bit into them, peppercorn sauce was like wallpaper paste and tasteless, nice atmosphere tho but when the best food on your plate is the cucumber you’ve got a problem

Good pub food, friendly staff and good value. Near to Ocean Edge Holiday Park. Just remember to log your registration (free) so the parking system doesn't catch you out.

Keep clear of this place. The food is horrible. I've had some poor food over the years, but this place is a stay clear. Who serves a lasagne to a customer not cooked, and I mean raw. You have been warned.

Had a good Sunday afternoon here. There is plenty of outdoor seating in the sun and loads of space inside. Staff friendly and helpful.

Bad - avoid this place. Looks like a dump inside and out. They pick and choose when they open there kitchen so if you got for a meal chances are they won't bother serving food, and if they do it's just microwaved cheap food that takes over an hour! Not welcoming at all and the staff are not accommodating. Remeber to put your car reg in too as you will get a fine if not! I would not recommend this place! Upon entering the the building and exterior didn't look great. On approach to the entrance was met with a sign stuck on the door with apparent rules - don't do this don't do that, kids out by this time etc etc etc The way it was wrote was not at all in a friendly and welcoming manner. I should have turned around and left at that point! Inside wasn't much better sorry pieces of laminated paper for the food. Food was served until 8:30pm - at 8:05pm told no we closed the kitchen early! Not welcoming at all - staff offered no apology. All these "rules" on the door but they don't follow themselves.... This place takes advantage of its location near the caravan site and ferry - I often visit the area and wouldn't not return The inside looked bleak and miserable as did the outside . Would not reccomend

Nipped in here for some lunch as we were staying at the nearby Park Dean. Good food and friendly service. Would recommend to anyone passing by.

Rang up in the afternoon to ask what time they stop serving food was told half 8 got in the pub at 8:10 to be told they’ve had a busy day and stopped serving at half 7 no apologies so they had a busy day and decided to knock a family back of 5 with children of the age of 2-14

WE were staying at park deans Ocean Edge holiday park .On the first night we decided to try the duke of Rothesay pub for a meal . There were ^6of us and we all had something different .Every meal was well cooked and of good quality .We ended up going there every night and never had a bad meal. We had everything from fish and chips to a T bone steak and all were reasonable priced.

Been speculating about this menu for a while. When you look at it it's just a list of meals with specials available. This is underselling by miles. I had a rib eye steak cooked medium rare (was wary of ordering rare) shouldn't have worried . Whoever was in the kitchen can cook. The steak was massive garlic mushrooms and onion rings v Good. So can forgive genetic chips and peas. It has been a mission of mine to find best steak pie in a pub so far that prize is going to a place in west Sussex. However my partner decided to have what was described as pie of the day. When asked what that was we were informed that it was steak, cheese and onion, lamb and mint. Or potato and meat. My partner ordered steak. God was I jealous A massive slab of steak pie in short crust pastry arrived. It was so full of steak that you would struggle to get gravy in. The Bar person working was excellent. They even tried to rectify my drinks order when hearing I was slightly disappointed. In short I was amazingly surprised at our experience. The food did take time to come seeing it was quiet this day. But I would not hesitate in recommending The Duke for food on any platform. Congratulations all.

We are staying at Oceans Edge, and was looking forward to having a meal here, but having read all the reviews that refer to the parking, we thought twice about risking the huge fine! It's such a shame that the owners and staff do not make people aware of this, I'm sure the reviews would be a lot better... and you probably would gain more trade 🙄 PEOPLE please be aware and don't get caught out like the others did!

I was impressed by the atmosphere, and the delicious food. The food was amazing and the staff was lovely. They were very attentive and took care of us very well. I had a steak pie with mashed potatoes, peas and gravy. I also had a sticky toffee pudding for desert. Honestly the best food I have had in a while. The pub was clean and large enough so that you could find a quite spot. The food was reasonably priced. Definitely would visit again.

Very friendly and attentive staff, full bar and comfortable restaurant, especially for viewing sports. The pizza and fish & chips were very good with generous portions. The prices were very reasonable for drinks and food. On site parking and short distance to the ferry terminal.

Food was really lovely from ordering to the table it was like 20 minutes. Ordered the rib eye steak and was cooked to perfection 👌. Would definitely recommend and would return again when in the area.

The minted lamb pie was stuffed full of meat. It was delicious.

Called in for tea. Ordered our food, ham, egg, chips and peas, and lamb and mint pie, chips, peas and gravy. A glass of merlot and a j2o. All for £25. Meals were on the table in ten minutes, lots of it and cooked well. Plenty of notices about putting your car reg in the machine on the bar to validate you parking there.

Had to come back to shore for a couple of days and decided to watch some football, this was the first place we came across. Didn't eat here but food and prices seemed decent. Ideal for watching sports on the big screens and TVs. Lovely pint and well priced. Staff and locals were all friendly. Enjoyed it here

This place used to be amazing unfortunately my most recent visit wasn't the best, they have shrunk the menu to half an A4 sheet of paper, there were no steaks or mixed grill available so i had the fish chips and garden peas, the chips were limp and barely warm like what you get from a takeaway not good quality at all the fish was mushy and tasteless crispy batter is the only plus i can give it the peas were the best item on the plate and speaking of plate they are to small and make you feel cramped on a plus note the beer was cold!!!!!

First pub ive ever been to where you have to put in your vehicle registration they give you 20 minutes for free to do so otherwise your charged ,but put in you reg and you get 24hrs free parking... Didn't eat here but it's definitely super warm on a cold frosty afternoon

Great visit. We stopped in for dinner before catching the ferry from Heysham. I would definitely visit this pub again if I were in the area. The pub is very large, but warm and welcoming. They welcome families and dogs, but the pub is big enough for people to still find a quiet place. We took 2 dogs with us. The food was very good, and exceptional value. The menu looked simple, but each selection had options - pie of the day was a choice of 3. The staff were kind and very pleasant. We felt very welcome in the relaxed atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this pub.

Ordered two jacket potatoes. Very tasteless No hot drinks served. Worst of all a long hair in the salad. Grudging apology and the dishes removed. Not asked if we would have liked anything else, which naturally - we didn't.

What a lovely pub. Called in today with my elderly mum for a meal. The two girls behind the bar were lovely and friendly. Mum can't eat much so they very kindly let her have a child's meal. We both had fish and chips...yummy...really good. The locals were also very friendly. We are going back tomorrow as we are staying close by for a few days....highly recommend this pub. 👌

Atmosphere alittle noisy, had regulars near our table who were noisy. Just wanted a Sunday afternoon to relax. However, this wasn't too much trouble.

Lovely little pub, very hospitable. We arrived about 9 on Saturday and the kitchen was closed so the owner brought us a fresh plate of turkey sandwiches without charging us! Thanks, will definitely call in again!

Disgusting public house after I received a parking fine for calling in for a drink with friends no visible sign s saying you need to book in and staff knowing very well never mentioned it to me, won't be giving my money to this establishment again, plus visiting Mens toilet where a young male was taking drugs which probably gives you an idea of the clientele, I will, be fighting this fine, another way for this pub to make money out of honest people

we called here for lunch with the family service was quite good, we ordered three adult meals and a child's meal with drinks £46, The food was served fairly quickly and was good quality and good portion. The only thing I didn't like was you have to book your car registration in a terminal at the bar if you don't you or forget you will receive a parking fine

Nice place for a meal or just a drink big pub small car park clean and pleasant atmosphere we used the pub when we were staying at a nearby caravan park so is handy for that.

Called in here on last day of holiday, wow its beautiful food and reasonably priced and the portions are spot on for us fattys, if we stay at the campsite again this will be our food place, only thing was a bit off putting but it is pub the regulars swearing heads off when kids around, but wouldn't put us off going 😋

Birthday visit for some lunch and a drink. Very pleasant greeting from the girl tending the bar. Chicken curry with rice or chips (offered choice of various type of curry eg tikka, balti) and fish, chips and peas £19.90. Good size portions and was delicious. It's an all day menu with lots of varied choice. Something to suit everyone plus a kids menu. Open from 12pm. Definitely recommend this place. Great service, pleasant surrounding, good prices. What's not to like. Drop in if you're in the area.

Only went in for a pint but it looked lovely inside, we stayed in the large beer garden with the dogs as the weather was good.

My Bev, Connor our Lab, and myself had spent a very pleasant week at the nearby Ocean Edge Caravan Park, but for our last evening decided to go out for our evening meal, hence our visit to this lovely Pub. On our arrival we seated ourselves in the Dining Area, situated in a slightly raised area overlooking the Bar Area. The two young ladies serving the drinks, and also taking the food orders were very friendly. polite and helpful. Bev chose the home made Steak Pie, and I chose the Hunters Chicken. Both were well cooked and delicious, and good value for money. The Chef approached us during our meals to ask how we were enjoying the food, which was a nice added touch to our visit. There was a reasonable selection of alcoholic drinks available, and at a reasonable price also. The Interior reminded us of many of the Pubs that come under of this type of establishment. Clean, tidy and welcoming. Toilets were clean and well maintained, and there was enough space to park your car in the large Car park. Overall a very enjoyable evening. BevandFras.

Turned up at around midday as we were waiting for the ferry. The pub only just opened. Walked in with a group of 16. All you could smell when you walked in was bleach. Not the best start. A few others from the group ordered meals along with other patrons in the pub. Around 20 minutes in to our visit, there was a cry from the kitchen to say no more food orders for a while! Understandable but a worry for busy times if they can’t cope with being busy. I went to the bar around 1230 to be told I couldn’t order with the rest of my group. I wasn’t even approached later to be told they were accepting food orders again. Worst l place I’ve been in a long time

My wife and I popped in for a drink, left the car in the pub car park. We were in the pub just over half an hour. 10 days later I received a fine through the post for £100.00. Surely this cannot be good for business. Future patrons beware.

We paid several visits to this establishment while staying at a nearby caravan park. A small but varied menu including a beautiful Sunday lunch. Average price of around £10 per meal. Friendly staff. Sports bar. Dog friendly.
