We only wanted hot drinks on a cold bank holiday Sunday on our way to the Forbidden Corner. Having left another cafe on the opposite side of the road due to a rude waitress we were pleased to find a table in this light, airy cafe. The service was a little slow but it was a busy bank holiday. We had no complaints and other people’s food looked very appetising.

As previous review said, it's now called K Teas and is a welcome addition to the market square. After being turned away from the Post horn by a very abrupt lady we were welcomed outside here. Nice menu, something for everyone, friendly staff and whilst we only had snacks the more substantial meals looked lovely. Will definitely return. Think dad loved the big pot of tea best, being an ex farmer he can drink gallons of the stuff and went down well with his big slice of chocolate cake!

Great little bistro/cafe on the square in Leyburn. It’s now called Kim’s Bistro. Fantastic breakfast and friendly staff. They accept dogs and they brought our puppy Cavachon some treats to keep her occupied. Food was delicious, highly recommend this place for a cooked breakfast!

Me and my partner came here for a sit in ‘meal’ everything was frozen, I got told by a very rude little lady, I’m sure she was the managers daughter, she had said the chips were homemade and when they arrived they were frozen gormet chips. I had a wrap and my partner had a burger, I asked for no cheese in the burger and still came with cheese, after our meal I went up to pay and the horrible rude lady charged me full price for our meals and drink even though she had said to the table next to us it was the eat out to help out! Absolutely shocking, the lady knew me and makes it clear that she does not like myself but that is not how a business runs u are there to work not be bitchy to PAYING customers, all way round I do not recommend this place unless u want to be sat in a freezing cold tiny space of a ‘restaurant’ discusting!

Popped in today for lunch, ordered two mains from their menu, the steak and game pie with chips and peas, and the Cajun chicken burger with onion ring and chips. I’ll start with the front of house. It needs a good clean down and a lick of paint. They advertise for weddings and functions, but I couldn’t see anyone wanting a wedding in such a drab surrounding. The seat I had, needed restuffing, and made for an uncomfortable hour. The staff were polite, friendly and courteous, a saving grace. The food. The steak was incredible dry and tough. The edge of the pastry wasn’t filled and so was that dry, you couldn’t eat it. The gravy is flavoursome, but sparing. The chips are more like potato chunks, they are so large. And you get a lot of peas, which isn’t a bad thing. The chicken burger, was well cooked and presented, with a lot of salad on the burger and as a side. The single onion ring, came in the burger. Again the chips are chunks. All in all worth popping in for a light bite, not something special. And we’ll probably try again in season, hopefully it’s better then.

Called in for lunch on our last day of a week stay in The Dales. The star of the lunch were the Red Berries and Fudge Brownie Sundaes. Both included vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and meringue plus Red Berries had raspberries, raspberry sauce and white chocolate melted on top. Fudge brownie included great brownie, toffee sauce and melted milk chocolate. The balance of both was just right. Big sundaes and well worth £6.70.

We called for a light bite, and decided to have a hot sandwich, with chunky chips and salad garnish. I went for the hot beef and gravy, my wife went for mushroom cherry tomatoes and Stilton. They came in a ciabatta roll, and were stupendous. Lots of filling, lots of flavour and not a lot of Bill. We had a pot of tea between us and change from £16:50. What is not to like. I must comment on our server, Adrienne, what a poppet, nothing was too much trouble and everything done with a cheery smile and she had a word for everyone, it is just a shame that more of our homegrown young people are not like her. We will be going back, but there is another branch in Richmond N Yorks.

Looking for a tea shop/café that was open after 4.00pm on a Saturday. Not easy in Richmond. My normal haunt shut, so time to check out the PCB. A warm welcome and seats by the window, we had a superb Rocky Something Cake and then a superb scone complete with lemon twist, Matthew made it and kindly supplied the recipe. Called in with my two children. Wasn’t acknowledged by waiting staff. I approached them and asked for a high chair. Three times I asked and they didn’t bring one. I ordered a baked potato with beans and cheese and I think it must have been microwaved and had raw areas within it that made me gag. My two year old had to eat in his buggy as no high chair arrived. There are some lovely places in leyburn to eat but this isn’t one of them.

We nipped for lunch after reading decent reviews on here but were sadly disappointed! The chicken Caesar salad was completely covered in what tasted like garlic mayo, there was more sauce than lettuce and it was already mixed into the salad so sort of already ruined! My husband had a beef wrap which tasted like burnt pieces of roast beef deep fried in oil, he didn’t feel too good afterwards but are it because he was starving. Admittedly we should have complained but we were all so hungry and the kids were grumpy so we needed to be quick! The kids meals were ok. We are on holiday so it’s disappointing when you have a bad meal somewhere. It’s a shame because the surrounding dings were nice and the reviews ok, won’t be returning.

We went into this place as it looked inviting, but we found that there were no facilities for the disabled. The nearest toilet that was open was way down the road. Due to this, we asked if part of our order could be delayed, it wasn't so we had to send it back to be re-heated. It's a shame about the lack of thought for the disabled, as the food was nice. the two waitresses were run off of their feet. I did think it was law to cater for the less able??

The town was very busy and we selected this cafe/restaurant for lunch as it had some vacant tables. The menu has a reasonable range and food/drinks are ordered and paid for at the counter. One of our first choice meals was unavailable and an alternative was ordered. The drinks took a little time to arrive, but the food was extremely slow in being served. We noticed that some other customers were having a similar issue. When served, the quality and standard was very variable. Peas and chips on one meal were not very hot and the rice on a curry dish was served in large lumps rather than flakes. The staff were friendly enough, but our overall experience on this occasion means that we would avoid during future visits to Leyburn.

After a 60 mile cycle we had a craving for beans on toast. This was the first place we saw, a table was free so in we went. Checked the menu which didn't have the item we wanted but did have various items containing beans and toasted bread. Counter service and upon my turn asked for 3 portions of beans on toast. Was told it was not possible to do this after 11am and we had to order off the day menu. I pointed out that both components were on the day menu and could they possibly combine them. Again told that it was impossible. The Jacket, panini and sandwich we did order were ok and the large latte coffees were excellent but at £28 felt it was overpriced. We were thanked by the staff as we left.

What do you have to do to get a pub lunch in Leyburn at 2.30pm?Go here. After visiting 2 pubs in the town square only to find out they had stopped serving food, we headed here with no expectations whatsoever. This was a slice of luck. The menu proved tricky as there was several tempting options.Went for sausage and cheesy mash. A winner!.The wife had a panini which she was very happy with. Our 6yr old had a cheese burger off the kids menu. It was quite big, probably adult size and could not finish it. This was no bad thing as I finished it and it was an excellent burger. Wish I'd ordered one myself off the main menu.So its simple food done very well. The cheerful lady who served us was a delight too.Wine is available. Booked for 6.30pm on a Saturday evening the day before. Was advised they could fit us in, therefore I was suprised upon entering that the place wasn't even a third full. We were shown to our seats and waited 10 mins for a waiter. Drinks ordered and arrived fairly swiftly. We then waited a further 15 mins to place our food order to be told that there was no fish or steak pie. We ordered 3 set menu dishes - 2 courses for £10.95 and various other dishes. The burgers from the set menu arrived with the waiter asking who ordered the children's burger! Not great. The other 'normal menu' main dishes that were served with chips got 5 chips each!! We ate and to be fair the food was ok. We then waited another 15 mins to be shown the dessert menu. When we requested sticky toffee pudding, again we were told there was none. Shame really, 3 items from the menu were unavailable, especially when customers seated after us got the fish! We ordered puddings and waited and waited to the point where our children were falling asleep. We told them to scrap the puddings and left. Poor experience especially as it was recommended to us. Will not return.

Having visited here previously, we were careful to book well in advance (well before we were close to leaving home) for one of the relatively few evenings that it opens. It continues to be an absolute delight! The atmosphere was pleasant, the service was very good and the food was outstanding. There was a wide variety of choices on the menu - including plenty for vegetarians as well as meat-eaters. One of us had the veggie burger and the other had the Whitby scampi - portions were ample and beautifully cooked. We regarded it as very good value for what we had. It is situated right on the market-place with ample parking nearby (free after 6 p.m.).

We called in for tea and cake/scones here. Having experienced it I can see why all the other places in town were full and this wasn't! We waited for ages only to have our tea delivered in huge ugly 'builders tea' style mugs because apparently they had "run out of teapots" No milk was supplied and instead of bringing any over the waitress went to serve another customer before finishing our order. The scones were very stale and virtually inedible. I left half of mine as I couldn't face forcing it down, even with butter and jam it was too dry. The whole place seemed thoroughly disorganised and no one was clearing tables. Having arrived and sat at a table with other people's plates and leftovers on after 20 minutes I cleared it myself. When we finally left the place some of the glasses I had placed there were still sitting there! There appeared to be children in the kitchen and moving various plates and cups to the kitchen but it wasn't clear why? When I made it clear that I wasn't impressed the woman who appeared to be running it tried to excuse it because they were busy. Surely you would expect market day in the middle of August to be busy? In which case, employing more staff and buying more teapots seems the logical solution! Anyway we won't be going back.

A number of unoccupied tables still covered in dirty plates. We picked the table we wanted but it still had dishes on it. When it became apparent the 2 girls working were not going to clear our table we moved everything onto the next table. Food was average. My gripe is that they weren't busy and no tables were cleaned of used dishes. How difficult would it have been to deliver our food and walk back to kitchen with dirty dishes from next table? It's just sloppy! Our drinks delivered an age after we sat down and one meal arrived a good 5 minutes after the rest. Wouldn't rush to visit again.

Well this is one strange place! We went into this restaurant that looked like it was just about to close or open as it was completely empty of customers and every table was clean and tidy. We only wanted three ice creams to take away and waited about 18 mins. When the ‘older lady’ of the team brought out our ice creams she had them laid on their sides with one on a small plate, the other two on the lid off a plastic ice cream tub! They were sliding all over and when the youngster we had in our care tried to pick hers up (while the waitress was still hanging onto the plates and lid) the cornet came away from the ice cream. The lady was trying to shuffle the ice cream back in the cone. It was like something off candid camera! I had to intervene and picked up the ice cream to ram it in the cone so that it don’t fall out. Hubby took his ice cream after some difficulty making sure it didn’t fall on the floor. I had the same problem and had to pick up my ice cream and ram it into the cone but by this time it was quite runny so had to grab the plastic lid off the lady to squash my ice cream into the cone. I have never ever been served ice cream in that manner before-it was unbelievable and stupid!. Had we not paid ‘upfront’ I would have said ‘no thank you’ and gone elsewhere. Needless to say we were all sticky with the ice cream having to be picked up-especially me!! The staff however is another story. The ‘Older’ of the team was chewing gum as was the young boy. The young girl was constantly playing with her long hair by taking it out of the bobble shaking it about then putting it back into a pony tail. I think they all need basic hygiene training and lessons on how to serve an ice cream cone. BTW the Brymore ice cream as always was delicious.

Thought I was on a candid camera show from start to finish.Walked in to an almost empty restaurant to be asked if we had a reservation!!Then waited an age to be served. Then on the next table to us a group of 3 were given 2 menus. Luckily we had chosen so gave them one of ours.Ordered a beer, only to be told they hadn't much left. Finally got our food. My wife ordered fajitas which came already made up (i.e. A chicken wrap). Needless to say they had no guacamole. I ordered sausages and mash. Nice mash, nice veg but the main point, the sausages were hard at the ends. Usually this means reheated in a microwave.Terrible experience from first to last.

This restaurant is handily situated towards the top end of the main market square. It had been recommended by a local resident as a good place for a light lunch. This proved to be the case. We dropped in about 1.30 pm , when there were a few other diners. We quickly made our selection of the house club sandwich, served on ciabatti bread, including chunks of succulent chicken, bacon, eggs, mayo, with some chunky chips and a dressed salad accompaniment. The establishment was clean and comfortable, it had almost a bistro type feel to it, with relaxed chairs around a mix of smaller tables. We grabbed a window seat that became vacant , so we could watch activity on the main square..Service was polite, efficient and friendly, and the food hit the spot satisfying our late lunch appetite. Toilets were up the stairs, clean and tidy. There are a wider range of food offerings, toasted sandwiches, jacket potatoes,, soup, cakes etc . It was all well presented ,tasty and filling, and we got 4 cups out of a shared pot of tea. The food was reasonable value for money, and was ideal for our quick lunchtime pitstop. Not outstanding, but perfectly acceptable

That is not a Bistro all they do I overpriced Panini, sandwich, and omelettes.Decoration is terrible , I tried one of the veggie Panini was ok at its best .Nothing is fresh when I pay 7 pound for a Panini and 6 fries I would expect some more freshness in my plate !!!

I was meeting a friend in Leyburn, and having arrived early I decided to grab a coffee here. I was served and told to take a seat and the coffee would be brought over to me. After about 10 minutes I asked the server if I could get my coffee, she then made the cappuccino and brought it over. The cafe wasn't busy, and I wasn't sure why it took so long. The coffee was average. There are a number of similar cafes in Leyburn, this place should take note of this.

Did not read reviews before calling here for lunch. We enjoyed nice panini lunch. We found service good but they were not too busy. Coffee is a little overpriced and tea was served in a chipped cup so attention to detail is needed. In all though enjoyable and would return.

Penleys used to be a lovely place to eat, however standards have slipped. Staff are always well turned out and do their best, a credit to themselves, however food is very average, I can't remember if they've ever had a different menu, and the decor is outdated too. Needs a good overhaul all around.

My partner and my son and I caught some late lunch. Quick service with keen staff, food was fresh and yummy and the desert was extremely tasty! Homemade brownie was served on a napkin which actually stuck to the brownie?! but my partner seemed to have no bother trying to eat it anyway it was that good! Clean and tidy and best of all.. baby friendly!

First time I'd eaten here in the evening rather than during the day. Unfortunately there's nothing for vegans on the menu but I was able to order from the daytime menu, albeit with the cheese omitted. The food is of a very good standard, the service a little patchy but ok, and it was lovely and cosy inside on a bitterly cold evening. It's good that the vegetarian and vegan wines are marked but unfortunately there's only one of each and neither is available by the glass. It's understandable why they close between 5 and 6 pm but it could be inconvenient for anyone wanting to eat early. As it was by booking for 6 pm we were out in time for the 7.30 film at the Old School House and shall certainly eat there again when going to events at TOSH.We could have done without the strong wafts of unpleasant perfume from one of the people at the next table but that wasn't the fault of the restaurant! With clarification about whether one pays at the table or the counter, some heating in the toilets, a few vegan dishes & a choice of vegan wines, including some available by the glass, I'd happily give this place 5 blobs.

We had lunch at Penleys while visiting Leyburn on a shopping trip. The restaurant is spacious & well laid out with very friendly & welcoming staff. The menu is long & varied with a large choice of dishes to suit all tastes & appetites....we chose omelettes which were freshly prepared & attractively presented. I have just one tiny 'gripe'...it is unclear as to whether the service is 'waitress' or not....after waiting a while, we realised that one orders at the counter. We later noticed a small notice at the end of the menu... Apart from this, we enjoyed our food & the warm & friendly service.

We were looking for somewhere for a nice bit of lunch and thought this place would be ideal. However we were left very disappointed as food took 50 minutes to arrive. After 35 minutes of waiting we asked about the delay and the waitress said she'd check, 15 minutes later she had not even bothered to return to the table to update us so we decided to leave. On informing the staff we were leaving there was no apology and the only information on why the food had been delayed was to say that a chicken burger has to be cooked for at least 30 minutes.....??The staff were much more interested in tidying up and getting ready to leave for the day than providing any customer service. No apologies and no offer of a refund and when we asked for one they didn't know how to process it so even that took some time.Having read through many reviews on here since the visit about slow food service and the fact that only 3 tables (8 people) were served food in the hour we were there (so it wasn't at all busy) we can only assume the Chef does one table at a time - very slowly! Would never go back.

One of several coffee come cafes in Leyburn. A modern well furnished interior and an unrushed attitude provided the perfect venue to pass an hour. Pleasant, modern venue with good service was our experience - will be interested to read about yours?

The location is simply fabulous. At the top of Swaledale with views all around. Set up for walkers - so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Mixing with fellow walkers meant a very sociable stay. Room was good size and comfortable. Restaurant bar and lounge were of high quality and brought a high enjoyable stay. Matt and Dave are great hosts. Thoroughly recommended.

No beer on draught, no food available. The only drink on tap was from yorkshire water. Don't know how the landlord makes a living, rumour is he has funds hidden in a barrel of Wensleydale Gold.

We visited 20th October 2024 for a meal for our sons birthday. We always go for special occassions however the meals were not as good as normal . Myself and daughter In law chose the bottomless Chinese my Husband and son chose trio parmos and my other son chose the Barney rubble mixed grill . Our table was booked for 6.30 we sat for 20 minutes and I had to ask Bar staff if we were to place our order at the bar to which she said I will come to your table . Long story short we waited and waited when the food finally arrived the trio parmos were extreamly dry and very hard unedible really . Very dissapointing experence .
