Pendra's Fish and Chip Shop in South Somerset

Avoid. Chips were stone cold and the cod was awful and grey and half the size it should be. It was long and very thin like it had been cut in half prior to preparing. Absolutely inedible and very overpriced even if it was edible. Had instant noodles instead and the takeaway went in the bin.

Ordered pie and chips, chips were edible but pie was microwaved so pastry went soft and soggy and filling was still cold! Inedible and disgusting

We were very disappointed by the fish and chips. The worst aspect was the batter which was thin, pale and soft so had to be scraped off the fish. The chips were very pale and soggy The fish was probably ok but not nice eating it without the batter!

Fish had very hard batter. Not crisp and crunchy but hard and difficult to eat. Chips a mixture of soggy and dry sharp shards. price was over £9 for a medium sized piece of fish including a 10 pence charge for a plastic carrier bag (it’s claimed the money goes to charity but there is no mention of which charity nor documentation on display confirming the money is actually given to charity). Won’t be back.

Orderd 2 Hadock and one portion of chips, over £20 . THE FISH HAD BEEN REHEATED AND WAS DRY AND BATTER LIKE CONCRET WILL NOT BE GOING BACK.

My partner stopped off one his way home to pick us up dinner something nice an easy. He placed his order and ordered mine but ask for my battered sausage to be kept separate due to my fish allergy long story short when we got home we found that my dinner had been wrapped together with 2 fish cakes meaning I couldn’t eat any of my dinner because of the fish cakes and it’s was getting to late to come back down and it had put me off. my partner loved his dinner though.

I have had the lunch tine special a few times any every time the fish has been delicious beautifully cook I really recommend you take advantage of what is a great offer

Even though we phoned our order through over an hour before collection we still had to wait outside. Got 2 large cod and chips at a cost of £27.00. Was massive. Had half and the other half the day after lol. Wouldn't spend that much again but apart from the wait we really enjoyed.

This is the second time they have ruined fish and chips for me. Both occasions I order large cod large haddock and chips, some how they manage to make the batter too thick and over cook the fish. This results in dry tastless fish and thick crispy batter. At £9.50 for the fish it's disgraceful. Only go here if you just want chips and gravy or sauce, but if like me you preferr fish and not nuggets or pendragon burger , then avoid. Instead pay £12 and go to firehouse and have fish cooked perfectly - it may be smaller but you get the same amount of mouthfuls as pendra just overcook it until its dry and stuck to the batter and tastless. Or make a trip up to somerton or martock. Oh and I haven't mentioned how long you have to wait at pendra's- not slick at all.

To my surprise the reviews here seem very poor but my experience does not reflect this. Certainly not the cheapest chippie that I have visited but I much enjoyed my Plaice & chips and shall return

Bought sausage and chips today. Ate them very soon after purchasing and the chips were freezing cold and sausages only slightly warmer.

lovely fish and chips. It's always busy, which means people love it! It's always best to order when you get there, rather than by phone. We did order by phone before, but still had to wait quite a while, cos other people's foods came first before yours?

We've moved back to Langport and Pendra Fish & Chips has changed hands. Don't know about the fish, I'm vegetarian, but the chips are a big disappointment. I've bought them twice now and both times they were limp, undercooked and covered in little flecks of burnt potato. There was a taste of fried chicken about them too! 😬

Waited 25 mins to get 2 portions of chips.customers are not being served in order. Had to complain when customers after me got their order .actually heard them ordering in the shop after me. Owners need to go to Tony’s in Somerton to see how to run a fish and chip shop. More time spent messing around with bits of paper than actually getting on with giving us our orders. Not going again in a hurry.quicker to drive 5 miles than go down the road for chips.shame it used to be so good.

Worse Fish & Chips ever , dried up pieces potatoes for chips , Fish all batter hardly any fish. ( Uneatable) took back, complained asked for refund, given just £5 for what cost me £15 . Certainly will not be visiting again.

Thought as I was back this way I'd try them again, give a second chance. Definitely not going back for a 3rd chance. Food soggy tasteless seriously going downhill quite rapidly

Always use pendras for our fish and chips and they never disappoint! Great food and great portion sizes!

I live locally and had fish and chips to night, great portion sizes, very tasty, not greasy. Staff really polite and covid compliant so feel super safe picking them up. Would highly recommend to anyone who is visiting the area or local.

Owners are very rude to there staff. And the signs on windows are extremely rude. Need to start being more polite or going to lose alot of customers especially me. Food is nice but attitude stinks

Ordered Cod & Chips for my husband and myself , very tasty Cod and well cooked with plenty of lovely chips ! As always very polite lady took my order ,and the other front of house staff was working hard !! I would recommend Pendra's any day of the week !

Wai and Antony (and the lady, whose name escapes me) have achieved what few fish and chip establishments do, namely produce fish that tastes of fish and crispy chips (if that is one's preference), not sloppy, undercooked mush.I ordered for five and six on two consecutive days. We all tucked in with relish. The portions of fish were very generous. The batter was not greasy. The chips were prepared to perfection.We all agreed it ranked among the finest fare of its kind anywhere. While none of us are regular consumers of this food, we all have experienced fish and chips the length and breadth of the country and various countries overseas.What I particularly liked was the meticulous attention paid to the requirements of each of us. What's more, what I asked for was what I got. Nothing missing, nothing mixed up. Success in every detail.Wai and Antony are a charming couple. Welcoming, polite, highly professional. They obviously take great pride in their work. Dedicated and hard working.You don't leave the shop stinking of grease and fat either.Covid has created enormous challenges, not least for small enterprises. Pendra's was up to the task. Facemasks, plastic shielding, social distancing.I could still see their smiles behind their masks!Great service, great value for money, great quality.I cannot recommend Pendra's highly enough.A job well done...thank you!!

There always seems to be too much food in the wrapping, but you will eat it all due to how delicious the products are.The fish is cooked to perfection and the chips are finger friendly.Service is great, because you get what you ask for and they take great care in getting the orders right first time.

Lovely food, seems to have improved since new people frying. Friendly lady always behind counter as well. I agree the intercom can be slightly annoying

Taking counter and over the phone orders. Should only be over the counter, as some customers phone orders waiting an hour. No one at the door checking people as they arrive. Stupid intercom, echoing really bad. Orders being taken close to the dispatch hatch, too much going on. Its very sad, before this, the service was fantastic.

Excellent quality food, quick service and very polite staff. Personally I feel it has got better since the new owners took over, especially the food quality. I can't believe some of the negative reviews I've seen on here as I've never had those problems but any place can have a slip in standards now n again. I highly recommend this place.

I don’t know if they will be open much longer, in the current climate, but it will be a tragedy if they have to close permanently. We called in tonight for fish and chips. Sadly, for a Friday, the place was empty of customers despite ‘social distancing’ being employed.The meal was all that expected and more. I am a fusspot about chips and six is normally my limit but I had a fight on with myself to stop eating them. Scrumptious.

We treat ourselves to fish and chips once a month and we will definitely not be “treating” ourselves from here again. The chips were totally undercooked, soggy and cold and my fish, which claimed to be cod, was totally without taste and the batter was also soggy and cold. My other half’s battered sausage was mediocre. See the photo, two mouthfuls in and I left the rest. I honestly hate leaving bad reviews, but if you can’t make decent fish and chips in a local chip shop, then really what is the point!

Very poorLarge haddock was advertised as ‘extra large’When In fact it wasn’t, more batter than fishChips aren’t Cooked enough I stood in the shop waiting for 15 mins and came out with my clothes smelling like I’d been working in there all day.....filters folks!!Altogether a very poor experience I won’t be returning

Went a few weeks ago - was second visit since new ownership, on first chips weren't great but thought we'd give it another go - was very disappointed - since the change in ownership the service was poor with little energy/vibe - wait was fairly long and then when got home and unpacked realised they had not put cheese in cheeseburger (there did seem to be some confusion between burger orders when we were waiting) and also only gave us 2 of our ordered and paid for 3 portions of chips. We used to love Pendra's but sadly has gone rapidly downhill and we will be going to Somerton for our chips in the future.

Hopefully the new owners will get a grip on things soon.Chips not great and had sold out of fish cakes at 5.30pm.One positive is that the lovely lady who takes orders and bags up your food (and seems to do so much more) who was there with the last owners is still there now and seems to be keeping things together in all honesty - she is always happy, friendly, efficient and is a huge asset to Pendras.Let’s hope the new owners can sort things out soon.

First time with the new owners..need to make the batter less greasy and not so many little crispy bits in the chips!

They must only employ lovely, happy and friendly people here. (There must be a equal opportunities case lying in wait!!!!!!). Great service, lovely grub at a very reasonable price. Plus you can sit and eat them on the riverbank nearby. (Rubbish bins are provided).

Was staying in a cottage nearby and decided wanted some fish and chips to save cooking for dinner. Lovely food we all had something different and everyone enjoyed it. Nice friendly helpful staff.

Gorgeous fish and chips. Freshly cooked and good portion of good. Well worth a visit and sit by the river. Pretty little shops in the area too.

A very popular fish and chip shop. Fish was cooked while we waited, as were the chips so still hot even though we had an 8 minute drive back to where we were staying. Very enjoyable.

Having recently moved to the area, we had no idea of what was available in terms of takeaway. We were recommended to this one by a friend and were very happy with what we found.
