New tenants took over late spring 2024. The Peel has been given a great makeover and is a great place to go. I haven't tried the food in the new regime but a new resident chef has been installed. Superb range of beers including excellent cask ales. Negative reviews from previous years should be ignored.

After our first visit to The Peel Arms for an evening meal, we decided to return as our experience was second-to-none. As for our previous visit, the meal was excellent: hot, tasty and all served by excellent staff: warm and friendly. I'm so pleased that we have found this gorgeous country pub - it is a real gem and the new landlord and landlady (Alex and Louise) have made an impressive start to their new venture. I would, without reservation, highly recommend you experience this diamond - I guarantee that you would not be disappointed.

The Peel has a new landlady, but the ambience & food are still excellent! They serve breakfast Wed-Sat from 10am; lunches 12-3.30 Wed -Sat & Sunday lunch from 12-5. Open for drinks on Mon & Tue from 4pm. I have sampled the full English breakfast, tasty & great value. We went for Sunday lunch & enjoyed perfectly cooked beef with all the trimmings, homemade. We have been for both breakfast and Sunday lunch in the past week and both were fabulous. A full cooked breakfast with quality ingredients for just £9.50 and Sunday lunch will homemade yorkshires, roast potatoes and all the trimmings for just £12.95. There is also a great choice of real ales and wines and it is now run by a family that have lived in the village for decades. Highly recommended, best to book, it’s going to be busy.

Cracking local with fine ales and wholesome food prepared and cooked on the premises. Good value for money and full plates of food. Mains £10-£20. Liver & bacon with onions and all the trimmings is the favourite, but all good! Tribute is the best beer currently. Good size garden with gazebos, and a "Coffin box" outside for those that still smoke!. Large carpark, but does get busy mid week too

We booked for Sunday lunch, my husband asked if we could take the dogs and was informed that we could. We arrived with family and ordered drinks at the bar, I was approached by a member of staff to be told that they did not allow dogs in when they were serving food, I informed her that we had booked and asked if we could bring the dogs. She asked my husband who he had spoken to. She got the landlady to come out to us, who also told us, we don't allow dogs when we are serving food, she was informed that we had rang and asked about the dogs and were told we could bring them. She insinuated that we were lying and said they do not allow dogs, I certainly did not appreciate that, even though my husband spoke to her when he booked, we have also ate in there before, with, guess what, the dog. Both people were very rude, with no apology, both had terrible attitudes. Will definitely not be going in again. Only plus point was a member of the bar staff apologised for them after we had walked out

First and last visit. Ordered beef stroganoff with rice to be told after 20 minutes there was no rice!! When meal arrived meat was beef stew and not very tasty. Other meal a pie which had to be replaced due to a crust like concrete. When paying the chap behind the bar was not in the least interested. We would have returned the meals but had small child with us and could not delay meal.

We went for a meal tonight and we were so disapointed, we had been recommended this pub by many people so we decided to give it a go. We were told after waiting for 25minutes that there was no rice to go with the Beef Stroganoff, so there was time to change my mums food choice. We then waited 40 minutes for the food, gravy was light water, no flavour. I had the steak pie, the pastry on top was like a brick so I sent it back, it came back not very warm with no taste. My mum had the stroganoff and it was the worst food she has ever had, it was nothing like it should be and was in a thick brown sauce was so bitter.

Arrived at The Peels Arms without booking. They were super-busy but managed to find us a nice table in a quiet corner. The specials menu is brilliant! So much choice and a real home-cooked feel to it all. We had two fantastic home cooked dinners (mushroom stroganoff and chicken fillet in mushroom sauce), two beers and a glass of wine all for £30! The food was proper home-cooked, fresh and piping hot with lovely fresh vegs - cauliflower, peas and carrots. Everyone was friendly; the pub feels clean and cared for - polished brass and properly watered plants that aren't plastic or half-dead. We really liked it. Thanks to the proprietors who we think might have been beavering away in the kitchen and waved goodbye through the window as we left. We had a lovely time - thank you for taking the trouble to be great hosts.

I was staying with a friend in the area and as a thank you I decided to treat both her and her sister to a meal. We decided on a starter and mains. 2 prawn cocktails, breaded mushrooms. Lasagne, Scampi and Shoulder of lamb. We all agreed that it was wonderful home cooking. Not pretentious, but nicely cooked fresh vegetables and good quality meat. The cook, not sure if she was the owner came front of house to ask about our experience. We could tell it was important to her and this was great to see. Btw, the portions were pretty sizeable, but it was so tasty, we managed to eat it all. We can’t wait to go back there again.

This is our second time for Sunday lunch here, the first visit earlier this year was OK and we gave them the benefit of doubt as they were ver6 busy due to Easter Holidays, I’m afraid this time will be the last, Food was at best veryaverage and service poor, bar staff surely and short with us when ordering, Now any good Sunday lunch will always have plenty of vegetables as these are cheap ? But one boiled potato ( still hard ) and two tiny roasts, 1 tiny parsnip, some warm carrots and bland cauliflower topped it off... meat was fine and nicely cooked but again very little of it. At £9 it’s not expensive but surely you can do better than this. Many better options in the area and would rather pay a couple of ££ more for better food and service.

A good menu so if you fancy something other than sausage and chips. Some of the fixed seating is quite upright but I noticed a lady had requested a cushion so nothing is too much trouble.

This pub is old and dreary if you want to hide away it's good but the food is ok & the staff are nice. It's just so tired and needs a lot of refurbishment. Not the best but staff are very nice

Five of us visited for Sunday lunch a couple of weeks ago. The menu is fairly traditional - E had fish and chips, H had gammon, egg and chips, M and B both had roast lamb. They all enjoyed their dishes. There were three vegetarian dishes on the menu - mushrooms in peppercorn sauce, vegetarian lasagne, and vegetarian chilli. I checked with the waitress if the lasagne and chilli were vegetable (i.e. made with vegetables) or vegetarian (made with soy mince, for example). She said they used Quorn mince. I'm not keen on Quorn, so I chose the mushrooms in peppercorn sauce. Shortly after ordering the waitress came back and said they could also do a nut roast or a mushroom stroganoff if I preferred, and so I went for the stroganoff, which was very good. The chips and vegetables on the side were okay, not great, but okay. It was nice they gave me more options, as that isn't always the case with pubs.M and I shared a bread and butter pudding with lots of custard, which was excellent and set us up for the journey home. H had chocolate crunch with peppermint custard, B had a lemon tart, and E had a syrup sponge with custard. We all enjoyed our visit and the staff were very good.

What a great home cooked meal in this typical English Country pub. Good honest and fresh English food, all served with a smile and accompanied by great beers. The Steak and Ale pie is to die for, and there is usually a great range of puddings if you have room left.

We went here on Friday based off the reviews we had read. We were looking for somewhere at a mid point to pick up our neice for the weekend. We've usually used those chain pubs which serve rubbish microwave meals. The Peel Arms didn't disappoint! The place was nice and busy with a lovely atmosphere when we arrived on Friday evening at 6pm. The tables were all reassuringly booked as we came in. The food and service was brilliant. As everyone else has mentioned the food appeared to be home cooked, with really lovely home made chips. The specials menu was plentiful with about 15 dishes on. I had a rare fillet steak with peppercorn sauce and it was perfect. Really tasty. My partner had a veggie lasagne and kids a pair of children's meals. My other family had chicken and gammon dishes. The food was plentiful and delicious. All plates were cleared and we managed to squeeze in a dessert. Again plenty of choice on a double sided board. All in all a really great visit with lovely wholesome food, I'd certainly recommend a visit rather than use those chain pubs if you are in the area!

The meal was average, the chips were soggy and the surf and turf was hardly "turf". There was nowhere near enough turf to go with my surf. HOWEVER, the service was 100% impeccable! It couldn't be faulted, I had a lovely young blonde girl serve me, very friendly and about the age of 17/18? I didn't get her name, which I should have done as she was ever so polite and very attentive to mine and my family's needs! (Her accent didn't sound as though she was originally from the Stoke-on-Trent/Newcastle/Market Drayton area, so she could have been potentially a new member of staff). I solely wrote this review, just to openly acknowledge the wonderful service that I received on Thursday 6th August 2015.

This lovely pub with friendly staff are always happy to help. We have recently had a birthday meal here for 16, the food was excellent. The choice of food was fantastic and everyone enjoyed it. Clean plates from everyone. Some of us could squeeze a pudding in and they too were equally delicious. Good home cooked food, generous portions, lots of choice. What more do you want?

We live nearby and visit the Peel on a regular basis and we are never disappointed. The menu is traditional pub food, but cooked very well. The specials' board supplements the menus found on the table. I can never resist the steak and ale pie, it's delicious! Sunday lunch is also very good and very good value also. There is a good selection of beers and ales and some very nice Bergerac red wine by the bottle. We have always received excellent service; all of the staff are friendly and courteous. Thoroughly recommended.

Visited this pub on a number of occasions and always forget to leave a review. Main courses are always lovely, great portion size, lots to choose from and always piping hot. Starters and mains however could be improved, better quality and more choice would be nice. Staff lovely except one who I felt was rude on the phone during my booking called Vicky, but all in all the food made up for it! Definitely recommend

Wow! What a find! The lasagne is excellent, tasty with generous portions. The chips are amazing, crispy and proper home cooked, not warmed up frozen products. I would certainly recommend this pub. The staff are very friendly, we asked for a table for six people, when we got there we preferred to move to another table, nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend booking, a real pleasure to eat advertised food that tastes like home cooked food!

We meet regularly in The Sneyd Arms & decided to dine there in December. We were a group of 8 & were extremely well looked after by Stacey. We had ordered from both the Christmas & the ordinary menu and we were all pleased with our meals. Some pets will also have enjoyed their meal as there was plenty of turkey & some of it made its way into doggie bags. The atmosphere was pleasant, it wasn't too crowded & as we were a large group we created our own party spirit!

Not great really tables were sticky, ordered chips they were good but took nearly an hour and its not like it was even busy. Staff took time to serve rather talk to each other than doing thier jobs. Will not be coming back anytime soon.

Stunning old pub in the centre of Newcastle-under-Lyme. It had a decent atmosphere, even at 2pm on a Tuesday afternoon, with friendly staff and a coal and wood fire at opposite ends in huge, traditional fireplaces. It's a Joules brewery pub, with Pale, Blonde, Slumbering Monk, and their lager - all of which are well priced and pleasant. Bear in mind it is cash only, though Lloyds Bank has cash points 30 second down the ginnel opposite.
