Fabulous host who is an excellent chef in a great location to explore east Somerset. The building itself is approximately 500 years old, has many stories to "tell" and beautifully restored.

Stayed for one night, family of four, including full breakfast, £63!!! The rooms were clean, warm as its winter, hot food, well cooked, friendly service, no complaints We were going to Longleat for the Xmas festival of lights. Would recommend a stay if you want a 500 year old building with good service with a welcome smile and good food.

Visiting Cheddar Gorge & Roman Baths.. fantastic location! We had a lovely three night stay here.. food is great and the people running the place were really friendly. Even helped me do a little birthday surprise for my partner. Room was very comfortable and looked onto the pretty stream flowing behind

As others have said rooms need updating but the staff are very welcoming. But it is not somewhere I can recommend, it’s an old coaching inn so unfortunately the rooms are right next to the busy A371 which has a contact flow of traffic all night long. Restaurant has a good range of ales and a pub style menu.

Stayed for one night and attended a Paul Nicholls Stable visit the next morning. The pub was ideally located for what we wanted - just a short drive from the stables. It is a little remote from near by options if you want to walk but again a short drive away are Shepton Mallet and Wells and we visited Bath easily enough from here. Jeff the Landlord runs most things himself and the rooms were clean and shower was fine. I would recomend the food in the bar - we had Lamb Cutlets that were great with a nice bottle of wine. The lady who served us was also very welcoming so allover a lovely relaxing evening before our trip to the stable. Breakfast was also nicely cooked as well. Ideal for what we wanted and will use again if we return back to see our horse on the gallops.

Stayed at the Pecking Mill Inn for one night, on my way south. Landlord is very welcoming; there is a good choice of tasty meals and drinks both at reasonable prices. Bed was very comfortable, and the power shower worked a treat! Would definitely recommend this establishment.

Firstly I have to say the guy that owns the pub is really helpful and Pleasant nothing is too much trouble. The bedding and towels were lovely and white and of a good quality. The bedroom was clean but, and this is a big but for me the bathroom was awful, the black mould in the shower was disgusting, wouldn’t take much to remove the sealant and replace it, the sink needed a really good clean around the taps and plug hole, the toilet seat needs replacing as the hinges are completely corroded, for this reason I wouldn’t return!

First time we'd visited, and didn't know what to expect as we couldn't find much about the pub online. But we were very pleasantly surprised - whilst there weren't a huge number of options on the menu, all 6 of us (spanning 4 generations) were tempted by something, and all of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals - clean plates all round. Would definitely recommend, and an additional benefit is that due to it going under the radar, we were able to book for a Sunday the night before, and there were tables free - so very good for a last minute option.

Well here I am again at The Pecking Mill. Been here 5 or 6 times a year for about 7 years now. Why? Ok price is a factor. It’s affordable. Jeff who owns and runs the place singlehanded is a great chap. Nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are basic but relatively clean and warm. The shower is fine when you run it for a bit and the Tv is new so ok. WiFi works ok too. The food is again relatively basic but I always enjoy his Lambchops virtually every time. Breakfast is fine. Drinks are a bit expensive but as I am here for work a couple is enough. The building is a historic one with lots of character. I sleep very well but there is road noise if you are in the front rooms. Overall I would recommend The Pecking Mill but don’t expect many luxuries. Although to me a roaring fire on a cold day takes some beating!

If you want to pay £3.40 to have a can of warm Cornish Tribute then this is the place for you ! I popped in to have some food and a few pints.... ordered a pint of Tribute as that was showing as on tap. A 7/8 pint was served fizzy which was warm and so obviously poured from a can ! I left after 3 sips and went further along road to a proper pub serving great food - The Natterjack ...

Basic pub food. Uninspiring decor but the landlord is very helpful and friendly and does his best to eke out a living in difficult economic circumstances with the decline of exhibitions at the Royal Bath and Wells Showground which is just up the road. The pub is open all day which can be useful if you are attending and event at the showground. B and B is also available and there is ample parking

I last visited in 2016, and was pleased to return to the Pecking Mill Inn for the atmospheric 16th century pub, and the central location with a short drive to locations such as Glastonbury in the west, and Stourhead to the east. It is not a 5 star hotel, as other reviewers have noted, but I always appreciate a friendly landlord the most, and the room was fine and the food was excellent. I will certainly be returning again.

I recently had a three night stay, with a friend, in this lovely welcoming roadside Inn, parts of which are over 400 hundred years old. The bedroom I had was a touch on the small side, but did have its own shower room. The shower room was a bit on the tiny side, maybe difficult for a fuller figure. Not really suited for a person in a wheelchair. Although there is a very good family room. Both the price and food were good value for money. The host was warm and welcoming as well as really helpful. I would stay there again any day,

I haven't been here for a while due to not living nearby any longer, but I've always found the food excellent value for money and the landlord helpful and friendly.Going back a couple of years ago I stayed here for a couple of nights with a group of friends and we all thought the rooms were lovely. Both clean and very cosy. I've equally used this place as a meeting point to have dinner with all my family and friends and I have to say we were very well catered for. We had basic pub style food such as lasagne and chips, Gammon egg, chips with very traditional sticky toffee puddings etc... and it was all excellent. I really couldn't fault this place at all. The log fire by the bar with a nice cosy sofa to sit on is a great place to chat with friends and relax. If you're staying the night, the full English breakfast is excellent too

If you want a nice and welcoming stay, The pecking mill isn't for you! When we walked in from a long days work with heavy bags, the only people in the pub at the time where 16 year old moped riders, downing pints of beer. After waiting 15 minutes for our check-in we were led to our rooms, which I can not begin to describe how unpleasant and unclean mine was, from the cling film on the glasses in the bathroom covered in dead flys, to leaking plumbing and grimy plug sockets. It turns out that I had the luck of the draw with my colleagues damp musty room and leaking toilet flush topping the charts,After a sleepness night of traffic and loud refrigeration noises, breakfast had zero menu and the only choice given was tea or coffee and fried breaky, which I passed second time due to the dodgy egg and uncooked sausage. The only reason I stayed because it was kindly payed for already, which at the prices I feel bad by.

Have stayed here and recommended to friends and family visiting the area for years many years now.A very beautiful antiquated old pub with flagstone floors and open chimney. The rooms are very reasonably priced and extremely comfortable and the food is excellent good old traditional pub food, with a very hearty fully cooked breakfast. The real ales and local cider is excellent too. Will be going back again soon

After a long fun day at Longleat with our 4 year old, we were looking forward to a nice evening meal and getting some rest. But when we arrived the owner/manager looked very confused and said he did not have any rooms left and denied all knowledge of our booking which we did through late rooms. We had an email confirming our booking with a booking reference which we showed as proof but still the owner seemed to know nothing about it. We were pretty annoyed as it was a real disappointment at the end of a lovely day. We are not sure what actually happened but it appears after a bit of quizzing that a couple the owner said are you Mr & Mrs Bloggs and they said yes and so our room was given away. The owner did try and help us find another room by phoning around from local adverts which either cost more money or had no family rooms. He did find a place in Wells that could help and to be fair he gave us the £20 difference in cost but after looking at reviews it looked like an expensive dump with bad food. So we spent the next hour and a half driving around stopping at b&bs and calling round with no joy, after driving in the middle of nowhere to another b&bs who could not help us I got talking to a local girl from a farm down the road who was most helpful and suggested a best western in wells who were very helpful and accommodating and could not do enough for us. In the end I think we did much with our accommodation, the Pecking Mill Inn looked nice enough but won't be staying or recommending this place. Overhearing other people giving their food orders too it didn't sound like they had much left to offer.

It is noisy (as it is on a busy road) and grubby. The breakfast was average for a B&B eg cheap sliced bread. Had to report a faulty electric shower - no hot water as the adjustable knob was broken. No discount offered. It is a nice old pub but not sympathetically modernised - obvious modern electrical sockets. However the bed was comfortable.

Dining area has had a facelift and looks quite neat just a shame the same couldn't be said for the rooms! Tiny rooms with rubbish bathrooms complete with rubbish showers. Noisy with totally inadequate glazing. Outdated and tatty furnishings give a grubby feeling. Wifi which barely works. High priced drinks (for a pub without any obvious attractions) makes for a very quiet bar. Even 'Single Mingle' Thursdays are dead! Tacky. The "Beer garden overlooking a stream", is a backyard overlooking a farm building and has no sun in the afternoon. There is, however, a stream! The meals, although touted as home cooked, appear to be the standard fare from cheap pub chains (the pricking of microwavable meal lids was heard from the kitchens! The Landlord is unhelpful and thinks he has a desirable hotel, he does not.Why anyone pays to stay here is beyond me. Obviously the better establishments are booked up. The only other residents appeared to be workers who where plainly forced into cheap accommodation. All in all, a shabby place (except dining area). I would rather camp in the field opposite

I stayed here for four nights in total, two nights in two consecutive weeks. The location was fine as I was working just a few miles down the road in Shepton Mallet. The pub - apparently a 16th centuary building - was well kept with the rooms being housed in a more modern extension and plenty of parking either outside or further parking just a few yards along the road. The rooms are a bit on the small side, but this was offset with the bed being VERY comfortable. I was in a room out the back and the double glazing ensured I didn't hear any traffic on the sometimes quite busy A371 outside. The bathroom kept the small theme alive but was clean and the shower worked with a reasonable flow. The food was typical pub grub, well cooked and well presented, the rhubarb crumble was excellent! Though the breakfast was a "full-english" style, I did find it a little lacking with what I might normally expect in such an establishment and brown bread would have been nice. When I'm travelling I try to find a place that offers scope for a quite country lane run in the evenings and the Pecking Mill has numerous lanes nearby, especially via Evercreech itself. It helps if you like hills! The pub would be nicer if it was a bit busier with a little more atmosphere, but otherwise I would have no qualms about staying here again.
