Super helpful staff during a very stressful Reading festival (for parents!)

Went to the Toby Carvery for breakfast with a friend this morning. Food was excellent, with a fantastic choice and range of food and would definitely return if passing. Only bad point had to wait ages at the desk to request a seat while a member of staff was nearby, although she kept looking at me, would not come over. Then when she did she went to the bar and called me over, rather than coming to me, so looses marks for the welcome. So maybe a little need to improve there. Also worth mentioning that there were dirty or stained plates within the clean plate stack, which was a little off putting! No one wants to eat off of a dirty plate. Had to leave them where they were as there were no staff around. (Looking through other reviews it appears this issue has been mentioned before!)

Dropped in for lunch, Decent selection of meets, same for the veg too, all hot, served with a smile, nice friendly greating, shown to our table, nice to sit and relax a little, thanks to all that made the effort.

We had a wonderful time with fun and laughter would recommend as the staff are lovely including our waiter will as he made us have a wonderful experience and the food is to die for

The guy serving the food was rude and could not speak English. The rest of the staff were lovely and polite. Great place to eat but the atmosphere was ruined by the lack of English skills of some staff members The prices are good too.

Great Sunday roast, service was good even though you collect your own meal. 4 meats to choose from. Loads of scrummy vegetable's. Their stuffing is exceptionally good as are their roasties cooked in dripping. We went at 1230 and the restaurant itself was looking a bit worse for wear, food on the floors etc. It is excellent value, a lovely roast dinner for £12.00. We've been before and will definitely be going again.

Just been out for dad’s birthday and had one of the best meals and not just because of the food. Our server, Joe, was so warm and welcoming, joined in with our family jokes and made the experience in my eyes. Food was lovely; a main for all and a pudding or coffee and made my dad’s day. Thanks Toby!

William was such a lovely chap. My children also commented how nice he was. Made our family meal nicer. Thank you William.

If I could rate it lower I would your ONE job as a restaurant is to cook food yet you fail horribly at this. I ordered online but thankfully got a refund the turkey they served had BLACK on it it’s really not that hard to check the food before you send it out as a quality control. God knows how you’ve got 4 star reviews you really don’t deserve them. Do better

Absolutely useless website - for booking!

Queues were ridiculous and everyone was jammed in wherever there was a space. Food comes in huge quantities but lacks flavour. Kids run riot around you while you're eating. Better to pay a little more and go to a pub that does a decent Sunday Roast.

I've been here many times and the food quality remains the same. Getting together with friends is always a good choice.

I personally haven't been to Toby Carvery in a while and we had a family birthday roast dinner very recently. A family member of ours has a recent therapy assistance dog (currently in training) and the staff were amazing in response to us on this occasion, allowing us to dine in. We sat and had a lovely meal - and I enjoyed the food so much! The staff were very professional, friendly and helpful in every way. The atmosphere was just right for our table and it was a very successful visit. I can't wait to re-visit this Toby Carvery, and go for the breakfast maybe next time! I/we had a great experience here and I would definitely recommend eating at Toby Carvery Caversham.

We had such a wonderful experience here today (Sunday) we haven’t visited in a while at it was so nice to see Liz & Dan working together on the host desk again. Wonderful atmosphere and decorations for Christmas.

Service is great,under new management. Very kind and attentive staff.Food,on the other hand,is a bit bland but decent. Will come back for sure

A standard Toby Carvery next to the associated Premier Inn. Parking can be a bit cozy as the car park is small for two popular places. The Carvery restaurant is smooth, efficient & very popular. Booking is certainly advised for Sunday lunch. Midweek the place almost deserted at lunchtime. What I do like about the place is that the tables are sufficiently spaced apart so that you're not sitting on top of one another. The food is very tasty, served with a smile & with help yourself veg, you can't go wrong.

Worst breakfast ever there today. Firstly I had to find a clean plate, as most of them still had food on from yesterday. I think the dishwasher is broken, then no ketchup. Seriously? They'd run out. GO AND BUY SOME! Tesco is just round the corner!!

Just had the best Toby Carvery we've all had in ages and it was especially even more enjoyable with the wonderful customer service we received from our server William at Toby Carvery Caversham Bridge Reading. William was attentive throughout and went above and beyond with everything for us making it a delightful dining experience for all of us all round. We will certainly be coming back again and highly recommend him for when you are looking for a great in house waiting service. Thanks Will, from Will!

Roasties not up to scratch, not flowered so edges haven't soaked up any fat. Almost flash roasted.

Nice late lunch with the girls. Used the £6 coupon that was sent via email. Really need to label the dishes on the carvery (leek and potatoes was not nice today, we all didn't eat it & thought it had cabbage in it, not leek). Good parking (remember to input registration number inside though). Air con blasting today, so although it was roasting outside, we still happily ate our roast dinner without overheating.

Very happy with all aspects of our visit. Food was great, service was excellent and the value was incredible. It was quite full, especially for a Monday, and we could see why! The one improvement I'd like to make is that when we found we were going to be a few minutes late I wanted to ring the restaurant to let them know but I couldn't find a telephone number on the booking confirmation email or the reminder email. Could telephone numbers be included in the emails just in case?

We had an excellent lunch at Toby's today, cooked to perfection. However, the highlight of our meal was the service. Our server was a lovely young man called Archie who was efficient, attentive and a pleasure to deal with. Please tell him that his customer service was exceptional today. He is an asset to the restaurant...

Had booked the buffet for 30 people today for a family wake. I was blown away! The amount and quality of food was exceptional. All my guests agreed it was brilliant and well worth the price per head. Everyone agreed that the tomato tarts were the best! As usual the service was great! Would definitely recommend to anybody planning an event.

I am a regular here. I usually sit in the bar as i am alone, today my bartender was Emily and she was wonderful and very helpful.The food was great and the pints were well poured.

Wonderful host, average service from a money-hungry elderly waitress..who i observed only chatting when the bill was being paid (pressure!!) And critiquing customers after they had left 😬but food was great even though it was busy & the company fantastic 👏

I visited Tobey Carvery Reading last month and overall, it was an alright experience. Took a while to get seated as it was a busy Friday evening. We opted for the standard carvery, which was nice. Some parts hot and some warm. It was great to have the choice of so many vegetables, condiments, and gravies. The food itself was okay, nothing particularly outstanding but satisfying. Children liked the food, no complaints. The kids menu does offer choice. The adults menus probably had too much. The staff were helpful and attentive, which added to a pleasant dining experience. The toilets were clean and the eating area met my expectations. Would go again and would recommend.

Lovely Sunday afternoon lunch in Reading. 6 adults and 6 kids all enjoyed our roasts, waiting staff was fantastic, Dylan couldn't do more for us.

Carvery good considering it was late in the day and quiet. The service was good, but again, it was late and the staff were a little inattentive towards the end.

I feel awful as I can't remember the young girls name who served us, but she went above and beyond to help us! It was Sunday, so naturally it was very busy. We had ordered our drinks, my husband went to get food, I waited with our child at the table. It took him ages to get his food, which again was expected as it was Sunday. When he returned, I went to get mine, she asked me if I knew what meat I wanted, she got me some and told me to get through and get my veggies. I asked if she was sure, and she replied as said, if they notice you have been waiting with the child and it's really busy, they will help scoot you through so you can all eat together. I was amazed and really taken aback by the kindness.

Very disappointed with my desert! Not sure I seen sticky toffee pudding in a form of a dry muffin more like a fruit bun!!

Pay at the bar for your food, they will give you the cutlery. Plenty of hot food prepared to help yourself esp. breakfast Yorkies. There was even black pudding (if you like that sort of thing).

I'm sad to say my visit was not a good experience at all booked a table so not a walk in had to wait at least 15 minute's to order a drink. Queed for over 10 minutes to get food not all food was available no green Beens or stuffing no onions in gravy roast potatoes 4 left in tray. I bought this to the attention of the server who said I'm doing my best waiting for another 8-10 minutes we'll he brought out everything that was all ready there so gave up then to find there was no gravey which took another 5 minutes to sort out finnley sat down to eat. Food that I had was then somewhat cold very Disappointing experiences will not be comming back to this Toby carvery again. Not had this problem with the lower early Toby.

Always a good shout going for a roast and unlike other expensive restaurants this would break the bank.....

Great food. Queue was a little long for the food but when we got the food. It was good. Price has gone up quite considerably however and for a large portion it is now nearly £17 which is expensive for a Toby carvery

Wait staff were lovely and helpful. Carver serving the meat was slower than a sleeping sloth. When there is a long line of people waiting go at least a normal speed! We queued for 30 minutes!

Ordered the Yorkshire pudding wrap and the side of roast potatoes However, never eaten that meal before, we didn't know that it didn't come with gravy. Maybe the person taking orders needs to make you aware.

I ordered takeaway for 3 people. The food was terrible. I think they actually served us left overs. I've been using Toby for years (Barnsley), and they are wonderful. This one, I'm afraid, was not up to standard .

Better eating slightly earlier than normal

The lamb was a bit dry and the tongs to grab the food were nearly melting because they were so hot but thats it, amazing place with amazing food
