We have used regularly for the last couple of years. Tonight the crispy duck was very soggy and the hosin sauce was like water with a smell like vinegar not the thick sauce is should be. I complained and asked for a refund considering is not cheap at £12.60 for quarter duck. The refund was refused. I will not be using again. Avoid. Edit: the refund was issued by Just Eat

Charged us for the order, cancelled the order and then took payment. we received no food. Do not recommend ordering as they may scam you aswell.

Worst Chinese takeaway I've ever had. The portions are tiny. I couldn't believe this cost me 20 quid. The food was cold and the chicken satay was dry with barely any meat on it.

Ordered was very easy to do had to wait a45 min When food arrived shambles they left out crispy duck we just got spring onions and cucumber the satay chicken was dry for 4 peices with two bits off pineapple chucked in for 6.50 what a shame home cooking you need to check your standards of food when i calked to say the duck was missing customer service was very poor the lady spoke very bad english and wasnt intrested in our complain when the duck arrived it was cold and dry i wont be ordering again what a waste off money Sort it out home cooking iys customers who keep your buisness growing

Yummy Chinese takeaway for my birthday, recommended by a friend so had high hopes and was not disappointed. Food was great, free prawn crackers, good prices. Only problem is cash only. But still better to order by phone rather than über eats.

Ordered from here as reviews were better than other chinese takeaway. Me and my sister we were craving for Singaporean hoofun noodle and barbecue sauce w fried rice. Decided to order from this lovely place and omg the food was too good. Just finished eating and i had to run to leave a review it was that good. I also ordered barbecue sauce separately and they forgot to bring it with my order and i had to call them back but they were so nice. The lady i spoke on the phn was very sweet and the delivery man was very nice. I won’t have mind the refund but they decided to delivery the sauce to me. Very nice customer service and food is delicious. We’ll deffo going to order from here again thankyou :D Edit: second time ordering again the best chinese food i ever had in reading. In love with their food but abit expensive for that little pot of bbq sauce which is not even full filled pot. £2+ i’ve tried in other places sauces that size and portion shouldn’t be charged more than £1 sorry otherwise food is great. :)

Superb Chinese food at very competitive prices. This 5 star takeaway is excellent, there are several takeaways nearer to us, fortunately our usual one was closed, so we tried "Home Cooking" which will now be our regular takeaway. Thank you. Ade Holland.

Pleasantly surprised by the quality of the home made dimsum from this unassuming takeaway! Har gow and siu mai were very good, miles better than the frozen stuff from See Woo. Sticky rice, crispy wontons and gyoza also v good. Cha siu buns and egg custard bins absolutely gorgeous. Especially considering it all had to travel from there to home. Highly recommend, especially with the drought of good yum cha places around Reading rn.

Their special fried rice is the best I've ever eaten, perfect.

Had set meal A for one plus BBQ spare ribs, all tasted great,nice and hot and quicker delivery. Well satisfied.

This is a hidden gem! Whenever I crave really good Chinese food I always came here to get takeaway. (Be reminded that they don’t have dine-in here) Absolutely delicious and authentic Chinese food that deserves a five-star review.

Awful food! Crispy duck was more like boiled than fried as was soggy and fatty. Portion size was tiny compared to every other Chinese takeaway too. Salt and pepper chicken was stone cold. The onions didn’t even have any warmth too then, tasted like it was taken straight out of the fridge and they forgot to cook it. Not even bothering with the mains as they’ve gone straight in the bin and now ordering elsewhere. That was mainly decided by finding a hair in the food!

Not a bad effort. Liked having the extra noodle options on the menu (because not enough places do fine noodles for chow mein). But the roast pork dish we ordered had very little pork in it and also no crab claws starter which is a shame. We also asked for chopsticks and didn't get them. But definitely far better than many similarly priced options in the Caversham area.

We order from here for delivery. Time taken is usually quite prompt and order is accurate. Only downside is the iOS app to order from is somewhat lacking!

Ordered over £70 of food and two items were missing. We called the restaurant and were told we lying and we would not receive a refund of the £14 for the two items and the dishes wouldn’t be redelivered. The owner was rude and confrontational when we tried to explain what had happened. It was the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. Avoid like the plague as they take your money and provide awful service and average food. Terrible terrible terrible place.

Please order there roast pork rice it’s so good and won’t be disappointed the food is just perfect and there Is so mush food but it did take an hour but it was worth it

The food here is consistently good and delicious. Singapore style ribs are amazing and the beef in is also very good. They give a time of 45 mins as standard but it generally arrived after about 25-30 mins.

What a let down Chinese. We have ordered pork dim sum, they were all hard as stone couldn’t eat them. The chicken in a Satey sauce was disgusting, I don’t think they know what is satey sauce as it missed the meson ingredients - peanuts. We spent 30£ and I feel like it was waste of money. Never getting food from this place ever again.

Best vegetarian options from a Chinese takeaway I've ever seen! I was particularly excited about the vegetarian sweet and sour chicken, but also we had the kung po chicken, mapo tofu and szechuan bean curd and they were all fantastic! Spent £38 and had enough food to last 5 meals for two people (7 dishes ordered total) Everything was amazing and I can't wait to order again!

We have ordered from here a few times and ordered different dishes each time. All has been absolutely delicious , we can't get enough and it has become our favourite Chinese. Delivery is quick (they say up to 45 min on website but it has always been delivered in 20min or less).Ingredients are fresh and tasty and the dishes all taste different to one another. Would highly recommend.

This is my favourite Chinese food in Reading. The food always arrives hot, fresh, and in a reasonable time. The prices are excellent. The food is really tasty and never makes me sick. I love the Szechuan Pork especially.

I don't tend to order delivery, but when I do, I'm a big fan of food that comes from the heart (or KFC)! Home cooking attracted me immediately with its name and I'm happy I took the chance. Their chow mein portion was 33% noodle and 66% other, which is great for what you pay. The portion sizes are larger than those usual plastic tubs you get too. We found the fried squid to be a little soggy but other than that, all our dishes were delightful. We also got free prawn crackers as we spent over a certain amount, it might've been £30?

Our family's favorite takeaway! Haven't tried much of their menu, but soups, shredded beef and chicken are amazing!!

Please bring back your old chef! Used to be our favourite and would recommend to anyone, now the flavour is gone and it’s bland. Still arrives warm and isn’t bad tasting, but there’s no flavour now which makes it hard to finish and unsatisfying.

Really good Chinese food. To state I am talking westernised Chinese food. There are large portions and they do not skimp on the meat! I have had sweet and sour which is great, steamed buns, spring rolls chow mien and it’s all been great. I like that they use thin noodles for the chow mien. Deffo a new favourite place!

A.M.A.Z.I.N.G! Chinese food is my absolute favourite, the other half is Indian mad. It's incredibly hard to please us both; not only did they succeed with their variety of dishes but wow the flavours are fantastic! I'm really finicky over taste and the other half adores tasty yet hot spicy dishes. The green thai chicken curry together with the salt and pepper prawns really hit his spot. For me, it was the special fried rice, BBQ ribs and we both loved the chilli beef too. Definitely our new favourite takeaway. We feel like we've uncovered a local hidden gem. 10/10. Exceptional!

Unsure why this place doesn’t have more reviews on TripAdvisor as it has plenty on other platforms. I ordered takeaway from Home Cooking as I wanted to try a different Chinese - the food tasted like your classic Chinese takeaway but we particularly enjoyed the chicken satay sticks! I little pricey at £6.70 but generous with the sauce. I’ll definitely be ordering from here again in the future. It’s better than the others I’ve tried in the local area.

Beautiful food.We had the special fried rice with big pieces of tasty chicken,pork, beef and juicy prawns, chicken chow mein,sweet&sour chicken balls,chips and curry sauce.The portions were large,enough to plate up extra dishes.Delivery was earlier than expected and delivered by store staff and was still piping hot. Definitely be ordering from here again

Ordered Chicken Green Thai Curry and they should rename this dish as a broth not curry - my chicken was boiled and translucent, swimming in a Green water.... nothing to do with actual curry dish.... this was my first experience with Home Cooking and sadly the last - it could be that they simply had a bad day however based on what I was served I will not be giving it another go ;( didn't even finished it as I was so disappointed - was really looking forward to a nice creamy Green Thai curry but got broth instead...

If you do not mind the size of the portions being smaller then order but even though the food as always tasted fantastic and was amazing , the portions size being reduced should reflect on the menu. Tell us before that way it would be our decision in ordering.

Tried delivery from this Chinese takeaway after quite a cult following on Reddit and Discord, and I can see why now! They do both traditional Chinese food (call up and ask) and Westernised Chinese food. First of all the portions are massive. The dry fried beef ho fun was fantastically authentic - exactly what I would expect from a restaurant. The water boiled beef, fish fragrant aubergines and soy beef tendon were all authentic. The mapo tofu had some surprising ingredients like mushrooms and peppers, but the sauce had the right numbingly spicy (mala) taste. The sweet and sour pork is some of the best I've had in Reading, containing large pieces of pork, not just batter. And the roast duck Chinese style was tasty and not dried out as it often can be. My new go-to Chinese takeaway, try out some of their homemade dim sum too! :)

Myself and my 2 housemates at Uni have been using this takeaway for the past 4 years, and have always had the best experience. The delerviry is so fast, and food quality is exceptional! The chciken with green pepper in black bean sauce is my firm favourite. Unfortunately we're going home so we can't use this takeaway anymore, but it will be sorely missed! Thank you for all the amazing meals!!

Chinese takeaway of normal standard in Hong Kong The fried rice is dry and the cow river is full of wok gas. Shrimp dumplings are ok, very rare beef ho fun = dry-fried beef river

Decided to try this for the first time. I had the beef ho fun and a couple of pancake rolls. The rolls were pretty good, but the ho fun was very good! I've ordered this about 4 times from different takeaways, this is definitely the best one. Usually it's only restaurants that make a good one, so hats off to them!

Only Chinese I will order from. Food is great quality and always hot. Takes slightly longer to be delivered at busy times but never more then 45 mins. Never order off an app, always order straight from them (can order online, free delivery over £15) definitely the best Chinese I've had, highly recommend. And my 9 year old adores the chicken omelette.

This is one of my favourite experiences of Chinese food, the food was so tasty and made with love clearly. The duck and pancakes was quality and the speed of delivery brilliant. The prawn gayoza was so fresh and I would definitely recommend!

I’m so sorry to post this but it’s probably the worst chinese I have had 😭🙈😭. Was hoping for something good spent just under £20 quid. The squid was fine the shredded beef average the curry just nasty and binned. Such a disappointment considering I paid £19.70 for my order including delivery and bag fee?! This a reminder for me not to order from there again!

This is absolutely lovely corner. I have been in Reading for five years and I never known this place do handmade dimsun!! Instead of the supermarket dimsun with plastic flavor, Home Cooking provide fresh hand made dimsun which exactly the taste I had in Canton. Very very good. Little bunz, shrimp dumpling, wontons, shaomai, all handmade!!

Funny old place. Often good, but sometimes far too salty... Tonight being one of those times. Also using small Quorn pieces as the fake chicken pieces is different and doesn't really work. Please chill out on the salt!

Was in the mood for Chinese Food and was hoping this place on Whitley Street would be at least decent. Hate writing bad reviews but we got the food around an hour late and than found it to be so unappetizing and unedible that we landed up throwing it out. Nevertheless the girl on phone was rude to her teeth. Will never order again ever.

Best chinese in Reading/Woodley area. Freshly cooked, the crispy chilli beef is always crispy and the wonton soup has freshly made wonton dim sum in, delicious

Food is 5 star, best Chinese take away I have ever had. Only improvement they could make is not using polystyrene packaging and use recyclable foil containers instead.

We ordered couple of times from this place and made the mistake of ordering Thai Red Curry and Young Chow fried rice the last time. Both dishes were unpalatable and went straight to bin. Their standard Chinese dishes taste fresh and OK and should just stick to those. I called back regarding the poor taste and all they could offer was 10% discount next time but I am never going to order again.

Ordered vegetable spring rolls and received meat ones, went back and told them and showed the rolls, they then told me to wait while they made me new ones, then gave me more meat spring rolls. I am vegetarian and they were closed by the time I realised so nothing to be done. Won’t be coming back, making a mistake once is understandable but twice?

I was very impressed with the food. It's our first time ordering from Home Cooking and we will definitely order from them again. Really liked the crispy beef and Kung Po chicken. Excellent food rating as well as quick delivery.

A friendly bunch. Food preparation is usually quick and takes just about 5 mins. A very hard working owner. They gave me free fortune cookies (in commemoration of the Chinese New Year) and 2 free packs of prawn crackers. So kind of them. A decent 4 star would do!

This place just gets too busy on Friday and Saturday nights due to being on Just Eat. The food I had on Friday night was just thrown together. The Thai red curry was brown and the paste wasn't cooked out properly. It went in the bin. I will avoid takeaways on Just Eat in future.
