Hands down one of the best Chinese takeaway aways in Andover. The food is always freshly prepared to order and tastes delicious with a generous portion. Friendly colleagues at the front desk make all the difference too! Highly recommend and would happily come here again and again.

Chips are always so very dry appear to be reheated, noodles always burnt, find it shocking they can serve food like this & still be in business. Avoid.

Awful food! Very salty and flavourless! Lack of vegetarian options so forced to have vegetables in dishwater and dried out chips. Lots of items missing and overcharged. Wouldn’t recommend this to anyone

The meals that we received from Pearl River tonight were extremely disappointing. In fact i refused to eat my chow mein, it didnt even resemble a chow mein. The meat thrown on top was pale slimy and couldn't distinguish what meat it even was. Very off putting and lost my confidence in eating it. Chips were hard and over cooked. Rice was all stuck together and hard. My husband ordered duck in plum sauce which didn't even resemble a plum sauce .It was chopped duck (we think) very small chunks and the majority of his dish was pineapple chunks.!!! We rang to complain but very rude and got know where. Definitely won't be returning.

Had a lovely takeaway from here tonight. Was really impressed. Chap on the phone was helpful, food was prompt after ordering for collection. Curry, chow mein and foo yung were all tasty. Years since we came here, have migrated to closer takeaways, but a little disappointed with them so thought we'd try here. Definitely will come back. Thank you!

Disappointed. Barely any meat on the BBQ ribs. Chips were hard and cold (over cooked). Chicken curry and prawn curry very runny and could have done with more of the main ingredient. Rice very dry.

Food is ok but not as good as it used to be. Pot luck if it arrives hot sometimes. Prices have risen a little to much as well.

I use delivery and it's perfectly prompt, sometimes too prompt and the meal is delivered decidedly sooner than expected. Never had a bad meal from Pearl River in many years of patronage 😀

Been eating here for years, great food

Last time I had a meal there the prawn balls were mush. The batter hard and greasy. Chips were old and hard. The bbq spare ribs were chewy and sauce really runny. We use the one in Winchester ( absolutely amazing food ) never go back to pearl river again

Pearl River has been my favourite Chinese until 1999 when I moved away and I have be comparing every Chinese I have ever had to you for over 20 years but my last visit was really upsetting to say the least. To find out the best chinese is lost it's like the people you have employed are cooking all your meals but don't put any real care love effort ortime in it anymore. The egg fried Rice was dry and cold with burnt egg in, the noodles were just plain grease and tasted horrid like it was missing something that has been lost since 1999. Sweet and sour sauce is plain horrid and just tasted of vinegar missing the bright red colour that dyes your fingers and the flavour was just moreish. Your Chips were dry cold taste like they were reheated. Your Ribs are hard chewy flavourless and unappealing. Pancake rolls were greasy and hardly had anything in them. Pork balls tasted funny like the meat wasn't fresh. Your Prawns, mixed meat and veg on top of the noodles didn't taste fresh and flavour was different. What happened to your 1st rate takeaway you were always busy with customer s and queues out of your shop. You don't have no online ordering or even presence i don't get it or understand it who owned and ran and cooked Pearl River back in the 1999 as something went wrong over the past 20 years for this Chinese to go down as your known as the worst food without anyone who works for you noticing. I hope you find out what happened and bring your amazing food back. As your food is / was the best chinese food I have had and still can't ever find in all the takeaways I've been to.

Just ordered from Pearl, I don't live here and never been in Andover. The young lad who served us was great, excellent customer service, cannot fault him. Very helpful. Took food back to hotel and sadly disappointed. This is a genuine honest review. I always order chef special chow mein or the all in one meal with noodles and different slices of meat with veg in an oriental gravy style sauce. The beef and chicken had been heavily bicarbed of soda, so much the beef looked like a twisted tree stump. There was an odd pink sauce on the top. The noodles .... I actually thought they were super noodles, I'm not kidding. The natural sauce was water. But overall, there was no flavour. Absolutely nothing. I was really hoping for that Asian flavour I've always been able to taste. Don't even get me started on the prawn crackers. But I ate it because I was hungry. The pork balls are huge, but all batter, but the pork was actually quite soft and tasty. Total cost £12. Thank God I don't live here. Very disappointed.

I ordered chicken ball I thought it came with sweet and sour sauce I got curry sauce which I did not ask for it not a very good Chinese they have gone down hill

Rubbish the portions are tiny and the prices are high. Delivery took an hour and when it arrived it was wrong won't be using this place again.

Ordered a lamb curry. I was expecting lamb chunks or cubed lamb as I have had from other takeaways instead I was given wafer thin slices of lamb from 1 cm square to about 1.5cm square and not much of that the sauce was so thick you could have used a trowel to scoop it out and the flavour was over spiced with what tastes like five spice. It wasn't eaten it just went in to the bin. I will not be going back

Good service, quality of meals ok but lost points today due to portion sizes on meals being reduced considerably. This reflects other reviews recently published and is disappointing as we used this takeaway plenty of times pre Feb 2020. Will try somewhere else next time.

Ordered a delivery which was delivered earlier than expected. The food was hot and very tasty. Excellent value for money. The driver was cheerful and very polite, he was a credit to the company.

Been using this take away for the past 40 years, by Christ what a change in portion Size and quality, ordered beef and black bean, came in a plastic tray about 30mm deep, roast duck chow mien served in a small tray, chilli and salt spare ribs all 3 1/2 of them, and to boot the guy, I presume owner is just arrogant when challenged about my concerns, that’s it for me never again, I will try another Chinese in search of quality and quantity.

Bloody awful. The forth time I've given this place a chance since the lock down. Tried something different each time and it just gets worse. The portions are getting smaller, the salt content increases and the dishes aren't what they used to be. Rip off plus cash only in this day and age!! Been coming here for 40+ years, but never again. Try beans on toast, but avoid here!

Ordered a chicken chow mein chips egg fried rice and curry sauce when it turned up my son poured the curry sauce all over his food to realise it was bbq sauce which he does not like we rang up and they weren’t even going to offer compensation for our ruined meal I had to ask if we could have another meal as he couldn’t eat it and got offered chucking wings which he doesn’t even like considering we paid 15 pound and get offered chucking wings I don’t think that is good enough never ordering again and been going here for years definitely gone down hill.

This was my favourite curry house for many years and I mean over 20 years. The portion sizes have change as with the packaging. But OMG the food to BAD.........Beef curry with chewy clumped beef (4 pieces of beef) and no flavour. I opened the container, placed it on the rice and thought to myself......Why did I give it another go!! Money wasted. The pancake roll, how can you call it that? The dough roll. Never again.

Chicken fried rice - a pot of fried rice with some bits of cold chicken spread over the top. This place was rubbish when I first moved to Andover over 20 years ago and, frankly, it hasn't improved. I wouldn't have used it this time but it was the only one I could find that was open.

Never had a chinese curry that tasted like this, odd flavour...egg fried rice over cooked and the bbq sauce was like a sweet red syrup...veg chow mein mostly bean sprouts and celery(!) completely and utterly unimpressed.

Worst Chinese food I ever ate in my entire life. Summary: My Singapore rice was not a Singapore rice, but I was hungry and it looked ok, then I realised that they chopped and added to the rice the chicken skin as if it were meat. DISGUSTING! I ended up throwing that rice and went for a kebab.

Tried to Charge £28 for 1/4duck, Szechuan King Prawns and chips. Should have been £17.50! Then they argued they were right! You might need to add up your meal yourself... beware!

Worst chinese meal ever.Not saying the BBq spare ribs were old,but even a zimmer frame couldent help them,old and dry,ended up in the bin.As for the special chow mein,burnt soft noodles and dry meat That was as chewy as hell all in all ,marking 1 star is still to generous ,won`t order from there again in a hurry.

Have been using Pearl River for over 35 years and tonight have promised never to use again. The prawn curry contained over cooked tiny shrimps and 90% sauce. Will be lucky to see the night through without a trip to hospital with food poisoning. What has happened to what used to be the best in Andover, never again.

Waited quite awhile for my food to be ready (only a soup and springrolls), even though it was already 8pm in the evening. Staff were friendly but the soup was salty to my liking

Ordered for 3, "mixed meat" chowmein was bad quality, the meat was awful I had no confidence in eating it. The 2 dishes of rice both egg and special fried was bland and had no taste in it, both bad. 2 dishes of chilli beef was watery and again didn't taste great. All in all i returned it and was given half my money back for the food. The owner was rude about it, though to be expected from a return order. The women on the front who served us originally was nice however. Only reason I gave it 2 stars.

This has been my favourite Chinese takeaway forever and was my mother’s since it first opened. I love its consistency and we all have our favourite dishes.

First time i have used this takeaway. Generous portion sizes and all the dishes were really good. The lady on the counter was very friendly. They don't accept cards but plenty of cash machines nearby.

Visited the Pearl River for a takeaway for the first time in a few months, as needed a quick meal. We'd stopped using this takeaway, as it had been a bit hit and miss - food quality not as good as it had been, missing items from order, slow to come from kitchen and apparently in a random order. However, we found it to be much better this time, food delicious, order processed fairly quickly. The lady serving on the counter was different to the last few years, so I don't know if the premises has been taken over but hoping it's back on form and this wan't a one-off.

Worst service ever gave me the wrong order then said don’t worry I didn’t pay for the order item. And I said I I wanted that item for my order she even asked how many I wanted and then didn’t pack it terrible service

What a great takeaway!!!. Now the Pearl has new owners - the standard of food surpasses itself! They are really back on form and I have not had a bad meal in weeks. I always get friendly service and good quality food promptly. The chicken they use is fresh and the duck is moist and crispy. If you haven't been in a while go - you do not know what you are missing. The staff are friendly and chatty and lovely to deal with and nothing is too much trouble. A visit is highly recommendded

Been a big fan of Pearl River for many years so it’s quite sad that I no longer want to recommend them anymore. After recently finding the meals had gone down hill, we thought we would give them one last try, after two previous meals which were not how we expected. This time we were given cold food, burnt duck and they missed out our chips. After calling to question this we were met with laughter and rudeness and no motivation to fix the problem. Last time we will ever order here.

Great Chinese takeaway, delivery can sometimes take a long time but they do warn you on busy nights. Food has always come as ordered and hot, delivery staff friendly and efficient.

DO NOT ORER FROM HERE!! Would rather to have no stars but not an option. Staff were fairly polite on the phone when ordering and the food was delivered on time but the food was awful. P3) Sesame Prawn on Toast: This came soggy & was very fishy. P11) Satay Chicken on Skewers: The chicken was okay but was dry & the coating was very dry and didn't have much flavour in it. Ordered the sauce in a pot and it was very oily. P13) Shredded Chicken with Chilli & Salt: Was mainly just little pieces of fried batter as it tasted like there was only a strand of chicken in each one. It was very salty and only the bits that had been touching the bits of chilli tasted like chilli. 34) Sweet & Sour Chicken Balls(6): These were the nicest things I ordered out of everything but the chicken in the middle was kind of hard. Ordered the sauce so it was in a separate pot but it's tasted like vinegar which wasn't nice at all. 50) Chicken Chow Mein: Came as noodles topped with bean sprouts topped with chicken, all plain no sauce no flavour. Chicken was shredded with no care as to skanky bits of chicken with fatty bits & veins. All chicken was from the part u wouldn't want it to be. 120) Deep Fried Crispy Shredded Beef: The dish tasted like the vinegary sweet and sour sauce but with spice. Overall I hated the food, felt sick after attempting to eat eat it. Was very bland & all had the same kind of taste. Would not recommend it to anybody.

I have been here a few times as this was always my partners favorite Chinese, however, there has been a few occasions which has put us off.. They give you the rubbish parts of the chicken unless you ask for "chicken breast curry". Why should I be asking for the quality chicken? It should all be quality! The women that work at the desk are rude and miserable. The food has gone down hill and recently illegal immigrant have been working there. Frankly this place has gone to pot!

Ordered a beef curry that was served in some sort or red sauce!?!? The red sauce was strange but actually ok - but he beef was chewy, tuff and had to go in the bin so it was the worst I have had in the area!

I have been using the Pearl River for over 30 years and other than the Buddha at Christmas when the Pearl River is closed I haven't found another chinese takeaway that has come close. The last few visits I have put down to this or that and in the meantime have used the Budha but my two teenage sons prefer the noodle dishes at the Pearl River. The most recent offerings were even commented on by both sons.NB. for those willing to give it a try and I am not saying I will never try the Pearl River again, they only take cash....No cards of any description.

Always a great takeaway, went here after the disgusting service at the Buddah. Food always tastes fresh and clean, friendly service. Had 13 round on Friday for a take away and everyone said (all from different parts of the country) that it was the best chinese theyve had for a long time. Thanks Pearl River for doing Chinese the right way....unlike the buddah which in my opinion should be shut down!

We ordered from this takeaway on Saturday night after doing a bit of online research. The food was delivered on time however that is where the good news ends. We ordered several dishes including old time favourites such as 'Sweet&sour chicken Hong-Kong style' and 'Sweet&sour sauce'. To our dismay every single dish with the exception of the egg fried rice was inedible. We also ordered Pork chow-mein that in colour and consistency was like raw brains. Apparently almost no knowledge of cooking Chinese cuisine had been given to the cooking process. Meat was raw in places, slimy with meat tenderizer and full of water from the endless bulking out with beanshoots. Even the sweet and sour sauce was effectively a pot of vinegar mixed with pineapple juice. We actually resorted to place an order with a different restaurant in Andover and put the PEARL RIVER delivery in the wheelie-bin. We won't be ordering from them again and strongly advise you to spend your treat money elsewhere. AVOID

Tried this place twice. Fist time was for 2 chicken dishes and rice, both fantastic so I would have done an excelent review.I went back later that week for a beef curry and mixed chow mein and both had thick chewy meat full of fat and grissel. Please get decent beef guys and trim the fat off!Appart from the dreadfull beef it is slightly better than average take-away.

Always use this Chinese over others in the town, would certainly recommend! Set menus are very nice and great value for money. Service also very good and generally very quick

This has to be best takeaway in the area and I cannot believe no one has put a review on already. Our family has been using Pearl River for in excess of 25 years with never a complaint. My favourite? chicken curry with mushrooms. Proper pieces of chicken and lots of it. Don't be fooled by it's humble exterior, this is a great takeway.
