Been going here a long time, was always great. Ownership seems to have changed and what a shame to see what this place has become. 3 attempts to place the order, first time hung up on, the second did not understand the order and told to hold, the last finally went through. Arrived to collect, given someone else's food that I then witnessed getting passed on to another person even though I opened it out in the car! Second attempt I was again given the wrong food and had to ask multiple times to do the order again. After an hour wait inside the shop I finally got my food home which was uncooked cold chips and congealed sauces. We asked for a refund and was told if you want your money back you take the food out the bin and bring it back to my shop. Toddlers were running around the kitchen around people cooking with nobody having a clue what food was going where. Bring back the original owners!!!

Ordered from here twice now the first time amazing experience, nice staff and the food was great. Second time however, AWFUL service! Called to make an order for collection whoever answered didn’t repeat my order back or tell me how much it would be or when i can come to collect. I had to ask him (sounded like he couldn’t wait to get off the phone) Then my boyfriend collects the food and he repeats the order (which was correct to what i had asked for), get home and i have the wrong food. I call back up and i was so polite as i know these things happen and the guy asks what my order was so i said and he just goes “oh vegetable chow mein” i said “yes i havent got it” he then says “oh well do you want to come get it” No apology? So rude and blunt! I got back to the store and the guy gives me my food no apology still! He just gives me the bag and says nothing. Now by the time i get home the rest of our food is stone cold. Will not order from here again and the young lad on the phone and till needs to sort the attitude out!!!

Closed at 10:10 and was disappointed

Been going here for years and hadn't had a bad meal but the last two have been mediocre.Barbeque spare ribs were tasteless and the chips were cold and stale, won't be going back

We had such good Chinese food again tonight we phoned and placed order didn’t have to wait long at all - asked for dishes to be msg free which they did no problem, and told us what ones they couldn’t ….. tasted fresh and all nice & hot when we got it home.

Thought we'd give this place a try for fish & chips. Very disappointed, staff indifferent to the point of rude, slow service & mediocre food. Avoid.

I hope the Chinese food is better than English menu. Decent chips portion but a bit wet. Fish small and wet for the money. Pie just contains mush with one identifiable bit of mushroom. No mushy peas.

It used to be good. I had some fish a week ago. The batter was soggy and greasy. I have now tried chicken chow mein with rice noodles. It used to be lovely. Today it was greasy, had a bitter taste. Previously it always had a generous amount of chicken. Today the chicken was almost non existent.

Didn’t enjoy my trip to lucky8 tonight. Got told we had to wait 10-15 which I don’t mind but having to wait longer. Ended up waiting 40 minutes. The young lad cooking needs to pull his finger out. Had to reminded by his colleague to cook our food and started to laugh cause he forgot. I watched him prepare different food and not wash his hands once. Just used blue roll to wipe his hands while he took orders on the phone. None of the front two serving got any customer service skills

I went to lucky8 many years ago and it was bad so we thought with the new management and reviews we would go again, we ordered a few bags of chips, and they were the worst hard stale chips, they looked like they were cooked a week ago and re-heated. it really was the worst chips we have ever had, they went straight into bin, waste of money tried calling them, but they told me the owner was busy and to try later!! I tried later and no one answered (8:50pm) I though maybe this was a one off, and I always give restaurants a second chance, so I went two weeks later and ordered chips again and even asked the lady serving "Are these fresh" and explained about my previous visit, to which she laughed and said yes they are, again the worst chips I have ever had. I wish I could give 0 stars, I read on other reviews that the owner mentioned to ring them before putting up review, I tried calling 6 times!!! over 5 days, either they never answered calls or told me the owner is busy and to call when they are quiet, which I did. I really had high hopes for Lucky 8 especially as we spend a fortune on Chinese food in a excellent restaurant much further away (which does great Chips), so Lucky 8 would have been very convenient for us, but sadly having had two bad experience with something basic as chips has put me off. in my experience this could likely mean they are cutting corners with other dishes.

This place is a complete joke. It took three hours and 4 incorrect orders to still not eat that night. The only good thing about this take away is the reusable bag.

Customer service shocking lost my order tried to get me to pay twice over an hour wait

Phoned through an order 7.30pm and told it would be 30 mins which was fine as I was 30 min drive away. Got to lucky 8 at 8pm introduced myself and waited. After an hour I questioned where my order was, and was told they hadn't started to cook it yet as I hadn't paid yet, and if I paid now they would start to cook it. I've eaten from here every week for 2 years or more and never experienced anything like it. Well done lucky 8 you've just lost 2 very good customers, and maybe more as we won t be recomming you to anyone.

1 star it to much but i couldn't go lower. Yet another missing item and when calling we were told it was are fault for not checking and do you want to speak to someone who speaks less English if you dont understand. On average we used to spend no less than £110 per month but will never spend another penny at unlucky 8.

Great food and well priced. Bit chaotic when collecting the last few months. It's lost the friendly atmosphere

They only except cash as payment for orders under £18.00, the cash machine nearby charges £2.50 to withdraw cash. Plenty other chinese takeaways in town.

Asked for chips curry and sausage.. 5 pound and no sausage. Taking the p... wont go there again and will pass it on to all coach drivers at rownhams not to go there to. 5 pound for chips and curry. Will be posting this on as meny places as i can. Disgusting and a rip off

Truly disgusting service. We have been using lucky 8 for a few years, the food is normally fine. Last night we were with friends for a birthday. The order was placed but we did not get what we ordered, when we phoned to sort it out we were told “YOU GOT WHAT YOU ORDERED” We had 6 adults in the room when the order was placed and we all heard it. The staff member was rude and told us there was nothing they could do. We could order more and it would be 45 mins, we asked to speak to the manager and were told ‘no he is cooking’ so we waited 20 mins for him to become free. When he eventually came on he said “YOU GOT WHAT YOU ORDERED” “GO AWAY YOUR TAKING UP THE PHONE LINE” and hung up. They would rather call 6 adults all liars than admit they made a mistake and rectify it. We all listened to the exchange between the two staff and are friend. Shocking and appalling behaviour!! You just lost the custom of 3 local family’s!!!! We will be telling everyone to avoid you from now on. Shame on you.

Just moved around corner from lucky 8 so I thought I would try a take away..ordered sweet n sour chicken and the house special rice..well when I got home I opened the trays to find the sweet n sour but I got someone king prawn chow mein..no rice! Won't be going to my local Chinese again! Food was average and nothing special.

Had a really bad experience a couple of years ago but since trying again it seems that they have stepped up there game and have improved dramatically. Lovely little place love the fish and chips and the Chinese. Staff seemed friendly. Would highly recommend

Dispite being refused Scottish Money, food was amazing, fresh & tasty. Quick service, would recommend.

I actually don't mind this place as a Chinese but my wife has bought home fish and chips tonight and it was disgusting..absolutely inedible and I would not even give it to the dog it was that poor ...through the whole lot in the bin ...never again

Top notch food but be warned they have a stupidly high card payment limit of £12. Totally unnecessary, especially as we are living in a contact less payment age. They need to put a sign up to prevent people wasting their time in the queue.

Roughly a month ago my Wife and I visited lucky 8 for our regular (monthly) visit. My Wife always enjoyed the selection of Chinese dishes and I’ve always enjoyed being able to get a nice piece of cod and chips, chips just right and cod cooked to order, on said visit we got home to a nearly tasteless chow mein and stodgy curry sauce, dark brown chips and very dark brown batter on the cod, tried to eat the cod but it went in the bin after two bites. Tonight, thinking they may have changed their oil in the fryer we visited again and got worse results. I take no pleasure in giving a negative review ever, but when I asked the polite young lady serving “has the cod just been cooked”? I was met with the reply yes it was cooked when you phoned your order through but the oil is a bit old.. sincerely not wanting to embarrass the young lady I took the order and left as my Wife and I were pretty hungry. Got home with the food and it was all less than average, such a shame as I rated this place highly till now, given the first bad experience We thought oh well everywhere has a bad day and revisited. We both wish we hadn’t and I’m now anticipating a bad guy tomorrow. Please lucky 8 bring your standards back up.

staying in the premier inn around the corner during lockdown 2 and everywhere is shut. I got a fish n chips from here and it was excellent, it was the best fish n chip I have had in years. If you're in the area give it a go.

Very nice! I just went to get fish and chips for my girlfriend and myself and we both got a massive piece of cod Each and a huge portion of chips each (and they were both ‘small’ servings!) great food and great service!

When they tell you the time it's ready to collect it's ready . The food is hot and tasty .

It is always delicious food here. Doesn't matter if you're having Chinese or fish & chips!! And it is such good value for money! Clean place and always great service. You can't really ask for more!

Hemos usado esta comida para llevar durante varios años con resultados generalmente buenos, pero de vez en cuando las caídas estándar. Me detuve aquí para recoger un pollo al curry y papas fritas. Los vi cocinar el curry como una cocina abierta. La carne y algunas cebollas extremadamente grandes se fríen (sin salsa) en una sartén durante 2 minutos y luego se ponen en el recipiente. ¡Luego procedieron a simplemente poner un poco de salsa de curry sobre la carne y poner la tapa! Eso no es un curry. ¡Eso es un pollo caliente con un poco de salsa vertida! Absolutamente sin sabor. Una actitud perezosa de proporcionar comida china que ellos creen que pueden fobear como auténtica. Fue preparado por dos hombres blancos, mientras que tres personas chinas estaban alrededor. Ni siquiera se molestaron en cortar el par de hongos grandes que se arrojaron. Las papas fritas provistas, tenían tanta sal que no podía comer la mayoría de ellas. No hay orgullo en absoluto en tratar de proporcionar una comida para llevar decente!

Just bought a steak and kidney pie and chips about half an hour ago. Has to be the worst chips I've ever had along with the worst pie I've ever had. Managed to salvage a few chips but the rest were inedible and would have cost me a fortune at the dentist. The chips were dark brown, small, crunchy, overcooked and have obviously been sitting around for a couple of hours.....the pie had obviously been sitting in the heated case since opening time, as the top of it was dry and crunchy and the bottom was burnt...... Even my dog turned its nose up

Great little chinese and convenient too. Friendly staff. They do fish and chips too but I've not tried that! 5 star Chinese review reserved for Good Earth Chinese!

Excellent Chinese and fish-and-chips, with friendly, helpful staff. The fact that most customers are regulars tells you everything. Ignore the fake 1 star reviews and give it a go - you won’t regret it!

Pedido de Big Group: servicio al cliente súper eficiente y amigable. Uber cocina limpia y moderna donde puedes ver tus alimentos cocinados a pedido en frente tuyo. Siempre utilicé un restaurante chino local bastante más caro, pero esta comida para llevar es increíble. ¡Volveremos! ¡Un cajero automático súper conveniente justo afuera de la puerta para que puedas pedirle a tus amigos que timen para que no te cosan la cuenta!

Hemos tenido buenas experiencias en Lucky 8 en el pasado, pero esta vez no tan bien. La comida estaba bien, pero solo después de la molestia. Descubrimos después de hacer el pedido que ahora hay un mínimo de 12 GBP para usar una tarjeta de débito, por lo que mi esposo tuvo que caminar de regreso a la habitación del hotel para obtener dinero en efectivo. Finalmente conseguimos nuestra comida y estábamos regresando a nuestro hotel cuando nos dimos cuenta de que no nos habían dado utensilios. Volviendo a Suerte 8, donde también descubrimos que la comida no incluía arroz. Resulta que el arroz es 2. 70 GBP extra, que pagamos. Pusieron tenedores en la bolsa y caminamos de regreso al hotel. Una vez allí, nos dimos cuenta de que no nos habían dado servilletas. Parece que Lucky 8 ha entrado en un modo de pellizco. No es una buena experiencia para nosotros.

One of my favourite takeaways. I drive about 20 minutes to come here. The Chinese and Fish/Chicken and Chips are both excellent!

Absolutely delicious, I would thoroughly recommend to anyone - well worth a try. This is bar far the best Chinese food in the area. The staff are also incredibly friendly too.

Horrible everything don't know what's worse the fish and chips or the Chinese, fish cake tastes of chemicals almost really dirty and the meat of the sausage was some of the worst quality I have ever seen in a chippy, I don't expect amazingly high quality but this was just rank, the Chinese is always awful tastes unseasoned under or over cooked bad quality meat again, really quite baffled by how this place is still open, don't know how they receive any return custom. My mistake as I have returned now a couple of times hoping for better, but it's just all pretty diagusting, tonight was the last, sorry but need to be told if they think what they serve is good enough!!

This is the best takeaway I've ever had. Omelette was amazing the best I've tasted it's all freshly made . You can see the whole kitchen which is immaculately kept. Staff absolutely fabulous and very friendly bend over backwards to help

Al doblar la esquina en la posada principal, noté esto cuando volví de mi carrera, eché un vistazo al menú y vi una caja de selección de "Lucky 8 box" que usted mismo y al precio de oferta de 4 . 80! Me dieron patatas fritas, 2 rollitos de primavera, 2 bolas de pollo, 1 costilla (debería haber sido 2 según el menú) y salsa de curry. Gran sabor y gracias baratos chicos?

Always really good for both the fish shop and the chinese. They taylor your food to how you like it if you ask. You can tell the oil is changed regularly. Nice happy and polite staff. Great to have as a local :)

Estuve un par de noches en el hotel y esta era una práctica para llevar. En la primera noche pedí pescado y patatas fritas de un aburrido buscando adolescente y cuando les volví a la habitación, me encontré con las patatas fritas eran blancas y un poco crujiente, bien poco hecha. El pescado estaba bien, quizás un poco seca, pero aceptable.

Gran comida china pero chips pobre. Singapore Chow Mein particularmente bueno como alas de pollo y costillas. La comida siempre caliente si recoger.

Always been perfect for me, Chinese or fish & chips. It was such a pleasant surprise when I first tried this place as I'm normally suspicious of anywhere that does 2 different types of takeaways, coz I assume it affects the quality, but both are always prompt and delicious. I've had Chinese & fish & chips from here about 10 times each over the last year! Just be aware it's collection only. I highly recommend, especially the salt & pepper chicken wings.

Been using lucky 8 for a long time now and believe there fish to be the best in the area. Portion size is good. Never had the Chinese food tho so can't comment on that side. The next Chinese/ fish and chip shop is a couple of miles away.

pleasant staff and efficient service. The quality of the food is very good with the occasional inconsistency preventing the very good from being excellent.Give them a whirl and I am sure that you won't be disappointed

Brought fish and chips from here tonight ordered on the phone so didn't see it packed unfortunately, chips where soggy and batter on the fish and sausages was anaemic. Usually buy Chinese from here but will avoid from now on

We have had mixed quality food from here over the last couple of years but recently we gave found by sticking yo what we like the food is not bad. We have had a quarter duck, Singapore rice noodles and a prawn satay dish and we have found the food to be agreeable. And it is very quick.

This used to be the best but has sadly gone down hill. Chinese food is mediocre to say the least and don't even try the English chips, they're awful and taste reheated.

Bought cod in batter it tasted horrible and had a strange texture...I phoned to complain and was told that there had been other complaints and they would be changing supplier.. Doh! So why still keep selling this expensive rubbish..

Chinese food was brilliant here for many years but has deteriorated recently, now only average. Original owners many moons ago were really friendly and chatty, now they just take your money
