I can’t remark on the meal as my friend and I didn’t stay. I found Pea Souk on the website and we were looking forward to trying it out! We walked through the door and went to sit at the window table which was an EMPTY communal table that would sit 6-8 people. Despite the table being empty the waitress/owner? Indicated that we could only sit opposite each other however one side only had a bench seat and as my friend and I are elderly with back problems we wanted to sit beside each other so that we had a backrest. We explained this and we were greeted with tuts, sighs and raised eyebrows so following this awful reception we left. Only try this place if you don’t mind doing exactly as you are told by an unpleasant woman who doesn’t deserve custom.

This quirky cafe was recommended to me but made more curious by the polar opposite TripAdvisor reviews. It's a policy of mine never to leave negative reviews on this forum so obviously my experience at Pea Souk was a positive one..! If you love home cooked vegetarian/vegan Middle Eastern cuisine then definitely try this place because the food was beautiful, but my advice would be to manage your expectations. Why..? Because: 1) This is a small and cosy cafe (though we were a party of 5 and had plenty of room) so probably don't expect to get your children's buggies in there with a large party. 2) This is a one-woman operation from front of house, prepping, serving, clearing up etc... 3) Due to the size of the seating area (plus table outside) you may need to book - which is what I did, but again if the phone is not answered straight away, your call will be returned. Now that's out of the way, here's my review... We were made completely welcome and had a selection of mezze off the menu and something from the specials board. All arrived on colourful crockery accompanied by a lovely bottle of Rosé. The five of us dug into dips, vegetables, falafel, beetroot fritters, salads, roast chick peas and warm pitta. We finished off with a big slice of Victoria sponge which judging by the golden colour of the sponge was made with extremely fresh, free-range eggs. Will definitely return, thanks for your lovely service and beautiful food.

We returned here after a few years to find it exactly the same - cosy, casual surroundings and food that is as good as any high end restaurant. There's no fuss and frippery, just great vegetarian food. Those that kick off about the owner being blunt need to understand they're not in a high end place with lots of staff, Nicola does everything. If you want anything special (vegan, GF, etc) call ahead. It's's great value, nothing like it for a long way and well worth a visit.

We booked a get-together for six people in the evening, way out of the peak tourist season. I gather they only opened for us, so definitely book in advance if you are planning on going for dinner. The food was bursting with flavour, and despite being a set menu there were multiple gluten-free options for each course. The cosy atmosphere and home cooking produced a lovely ambience, and we hope to visit again when we next visit Falmouth.

Entered late afternoon on a Friday holding my 8-month old to find Pea Souk empty bar the owner and checked she was still open. Her abrupt response was ‘yes but you can’t come in here with a pushchair’. Shocked I asked why? She then told us there wasn’t room and it’d take up space for other customers. I replied to say ‘but there’s nobody in here?’. I wanted to continue and say we could fold up the pushchair or, should other customers arrive, move it outside... but the owner jumped in very short tempered to declare ‘my cafe, my rules’. Clearly unwelcome we left. Utterly unnecessary and uncalled for attitude and simply rude, even if those are ‘the rules’ maybe just be nice? Looking at reviews not a one off. Shame.

Been meaning to bring everyone over to eat here for years and finally decided to treat all the family to an “In-betweener” Xmas/New Year get together lunch. We was wandering down to find somewhere for lunch from the car park when we smelt a lovely waft of cooking travelling up the lane which we believe was coming from Pea Souk. We decided to pay a visit so was deliberating over our menu choice in the window. Just inside behind the servery were two waitresses chatting loud enough with the door open for their conversation to be easily heard from the front window menu. One had a real gripe (without exaggeration) about customers that don't buy a drink to go with their meal & insist on asking for tap water instead. The conversation was about a large table that had all PAID for meals but only wanted tap water, the waitress insisted that she had made one of them buy a bottle of Stillwater instead & grumbled that her colleague was fed up tooing & froing tables for nothing. They were not doing it for nothing as they had paying customers buying food & if they had put a jug of water & ice out the customers would not have to keep asking for it.

We stumbled across this place while on holiday in Cornwall and were delighted to find somewhere that was both vegetarian and dog-friendly. We had a really good lunch, freshly prepared and served by a sweet, welcoming young girl, but our experience was somewhat dampened by the attitude of the owner, who made us (and all the other customers) feel that we were a huge inconvenience. Also be warned that she only accepts cash. The food was worth the rudeness though.

Upon arrival I realised it wasn't the place I would normally eat at however I decided to give it a chance due to the enticing menu. The owner of the shop was accommodating and seated us rather quickly. Although the seating was extremely cramped; the food once ordered, arrived quickly bringing with it a aromatic smell. The food was delicious, the chips cooked to perfection, alongside the veggie bacon and the burger, served in a brioche bun. The veggie bacon was a tasty alternative to normal bacon, more filling and wholesome in my opinion. The only problem with Pea Souk was the seating, it was extremely cramped, and not suited for family seating. In conclusion if you are a fan of wholesome , filling vegetarian food this is the place to visit. However if you are a family be aware there is limited seating. Please be aware the photo had salad served alongside it however it was eaten before the photo was took.

I'm not usually one to write a trip advisor comment, and this is actually my first ever negative review but my friends and I feltso uncomfortable and were slightly embarrassed with the level of service we received when we visited Pea Souk yesterday. I had received a £10 voucher from my sister and as a vegetarian was keen to go for lunch with my friends; when we arrived we were told that they weren't ready to serve food yet which we understood entirely as it was 11.50 however were told we could order drinks while we waited. We weren't asked what drinks we wanted until the waitress who I presume worked in the kitchen as well came to take our order. When my friend asked if she could have her coleslaw on the side the waitress replied with "well where else am I going to put it?" in a hostile manner and failed to appreciate how the menu states how you can add coleslaw to your burger. In addition to this, when I asked for a portion of "slaw" I looked up to see our server laughing at me which made me very uncomfortable to be laughed at for no apparent reason. We waited over 40 minutes (no exaggeration, our was taken at 12 and the food came just after 12.40) for a very nice meal, very tight potions of "slaw" which couldn't have been more than 1/2 a spoon full. My friends and I all work as waitresses in the busy tourist town of St. Ives and can tolerate slow/bad service however we were surprised at the rude and unfriendly manner of the woman serving us. All in all, I probably wouldn't return to Pea Souk; as much as I enjoyed the food and my vegan friend was delighted at all the vegan options it doesn't seem worth it to travel out of town to be served like we were yesterday.

I'm not vegetarian myself but my wife is and I felt like doing something different for my 50th.I had around 40 guests, the majority of whom were not vegetarian.Pea Souk provided a fantastic mix of Arabic and more traditional vegetarian food. The Arabic menu was gorgeous and different, it consisted of falafel, spanokopita, dolmades and huge bowls of tabboleh, chickpeas, roasted courgettes. The more traditional tarts were just as lovely; courgette with spinach and cheese, ragu of beetroot, tomato with garlic and thyme, and a roast squash, hale and leek, plus more bowls of lovely, fresh salads. And the deserts! A fantastic Pavlova, a zesty lemon and lime tart and a chocolate and raspberry trifle that was sensational and one of the stars of the show! The food was a huge success; everyone commented on it and even the non-veggies were impressed and went back for more.

I love Pea Souk...its food, atmosphere, decor..its all blimin lovely. The fact thats its so tiny adds to its appeal...today you WILL be lucky enough to get a lunchtime seat, tomorrow you may have to wait...I love they way all the patrons chat to each other, discuss their meals, suggest people swap seats so more can come in, chat about the newspaper headlines and compliment the table flowers and I've made met some great people thanks to the uniqueness of the sharing table. Its intimacy makes the owner's strong personality shine out, but give her a cheeky wink, compliment her combination of flavours....and she'll be putty in your hands. It must take a very strong person to be so committed and passionate day in day out, especially when dealing with "the customer is always right" type of people who have never experienced our favourites cafe's quirks, so Hats Off to Nicola at Pea Souk and all who serve with her.......hope to see you all soon :-)

We went with a 18 month old, we left the pushchair outside. 2 grandparents & Mum. We sat together at a table and were asked to move(it was 1200 and empty) we asked why,'in case we get more people in'. We had to squish on a smaller table. No smiles, not friendly, food took ages but we were too upset to really enjoy our lunch after that. Only 2 other people came in. Ages since we felt like a nuisance with a small child. Not been since. Very unusual attitude for a veggie place, generally find veggie eating places quite enlightened.

I have been a vegetarian since I was young, well over 20 years and was particularly excited about trying the food here at Pea Souk having looked at the menu online which sounded delicious and unique. Went to Falmouth today with my parents and my 7 year old and 7 month old. As we got there we weren't sure if we would all get a seat as it is small (though quaint looking) and looking through the window there were a couple of tables already taken. We thought we would see anyway as we were eager to try the food. My Mum opened the door and said "hello" and before she could say anymore the female member of staff basically scoffed when she saw the pushchair ( a lightweight fold down stroller) and said there was no way she could have a pram in there. Sorry. Extremely abrupt, almost mocking. And that was that! So we ventured round the corner and tried Hang Ten - a completely different story with great food, helpful staff and lovely atmosphere. Won't be trying Pea Souk again unless it changes its staff.

Luckily we spotted Pea Souk in a side street when we were last in Falmouth 4 years ago. I had a fantastic veggie Lasagne and Kevin had a Mezze. It was a must on the short break we've just had in the Lizard and it did not disappoint. The food was wonderful and we were lucky to get a table in this tiny place. This time all three of us had the delicious Beetroot and Goats cheese Tart with really inventive different salads. It was one of the best meals I've ever had - and I'm getting on a bit! Nicola was welcoming and straightforward and does not deserve some of the ignorant negative comments found in the few bad reviews here.I hope Pea Souk is still open when we next visit Falmouth.

I came here for the first time last week having walked past many a time. With two out of three of our group being vegetarian it made sense! Luckily there was room for us to go in without having to wait. After looking through a comprehensive and exciting menu we all ended up opting for the same lunch, soup with cheese toasty!...and we were not disappointed! The soup was a generous portion of parsnip, Jerusalem artichoke and apple (so nice to have exciting flavours) it was lovely and fresh, well seasoned and not too sweet - very tasty. Great value for money, I will definitely try this place out again. The reason I haven't given it 5 stars is due to the fact we were enticed by the blackboard and most of the food on it wasn't being served.

Having came here by accident in search of another vegetarian restaurant the first impression was odd to say the least. You'll quickly get over this however when you realise that what looks like a morocan living room somehow makes for the most uniquely charming and fantastical ambience. The seating was completely geared towards being comfortable so no awkward postures over dinner. The service was a little odd but endearing; our host being attentive and extremely welcoming if a little encroaching. Do not be off however. The tone of her role was most welcome. The food was the best part. The blends of flavours were at first unfamiliar however unbelievably tasty. My girlfriend is a veggie and she had never eaten anything like it and I as a non veggie was shocked at how good an aubergine could taste. Definitely would return and fully recommend to vegetarians, vegans and meat eaters! 5 stars!

As we arrived for a late lunch (about 2.45) the woman working did not seem happy to see us....everything was a massive effort and when we asked for water she sighed, and made a point of telling us she would have to wash up more glasses if we wanted it. They had run out of lots of ingredients so noone got their original request- but aside from that the food was yummy.

Me and a friend came to this cafe a little while back. My friend being a vegetarian it can not always be easy to find places with good food. We found this place and decided to give it a go, both living in the area and not having tried it yet. The Cafe itself is small so find space can be hard but not impossible. The menu was nice and the food delicious when it came. Our issue came with the staff, particularly the woman. As we where eating a man sat on the bench outside eating a pasty. She told him to leave as it was not her food that he had bought. This I find acceptable. What I don't find acceptable is the manner in which she talked to the man and the rudeness of her comments that we could hear from the kitchen about him for a little while after. She is not the friendlies of people, but she does good food. However have not been back since.

Having just moved to Falmouth, we're diligently trying all of the restaurants! We found this tiny gem by accident and squeezed onto a table with two lovely friendly ladies. I had soup (pea and mint) and a 'side salad' - not a wilting lettuce leave in sight; we're talking beetroot puree, spelt with chickpeas and green beans etc and plenty of it too. Rob went for the mezze plate, which rivaled any we've had anywhere in Europe. Washed down with a carrot and ginger juice. We both left feeling full, but without that horrid heavy feeling and we had change from a £20 note! Brilliant!

Best place to eat a healthy lunch in Falmouth And we have tried a fair few.......Truly Delicious vegetarian food, large portions, boy does the chef know how to cook. Unusual recipes and sometime there is food not on menu that has just come out of the kitchen, so worth asking. Salads are delicious and tasty. Worth waiting a few minutes to get a seat. Very close to Main Street up a little side alley. Some good fresh teas too and yummy cakes.

If we go to Falmouth we have to eat at Pea Souk. The mezze platter is the best, definitely the best vegetarian food I've eaten in Cornwall by far. The flavours and selection are fantastic. That mezze is something I would never attempt to recreate at home because I know it would not compare. The cakes always look fantastic but I never have room to squeeze one in. The smoothies are the drink of choice for us. Lovely lady who runs this minute restaurant, always friendly and welcoming.

I love eating at Pea Souk! Everything tastes so fresh and original and the menu is constantly changing... Always worth a visit. No surprise that the American band Shearwater said that the meal they ate at Pea Souk was the best they had eaten on their entire tour (and Falmouth was the final date)...

We had lunch in this gem of a cafe which was beautifully cool on one of the hottest days of the year. My mezze platter was a mix of delightful flavours and textures - the lightest falafals with rich hummus, glorious roast vegetables, crumbly feta, salads with pomegranate, parsley & various leaves, wonderful dressing & warm pitta bread. My husband had a roasted beetroot tart withcrisp tasty wholewheat pastry, broccoli, other leaves, onions & melting soft cheese on top. Alongside was another delicious and creative salad. The coffee to follow was perfect!

I have been quite a regular here over the past 4 years, but last night we had an exceptional taster meal (for the weding meal that Pea Souk are providing), and I was inspired to write a review. The food here is always fresh, full of flavour, and suprsing with it's combination of flavours and ingredients. The Thai Gado Gado (spelling?) is possibly one one my favourite meals of all time, but even the more simple grilled goats cheese salad sandwich (that I used to have at least once a week when I worked nearby) is full of a rich balance of sweet and sour flavours, crisp salad and cruchy grilled bread. If you're after something delicious and a little different then look no further.

In conjunction with the other reviews describing the owners attitude, I too experienced her nasty and rude tone the other day. Avoid this place. She refused to let us share a large meze platter, railroaded my mother into ordering more food and drink. She stood over us, rolling her eyes and sighing, making a song and dance about everything. This business owner needs to change her attitude. I will never be going back there, her nasty tone was offensive and really put a downer on our time in Falmouth.

We were looking for somewhere small and homely to have lunch and we stumbled across this tiny café up a small alley. It was a lovely café with an eclectic atmosphere and the staff were very lively. I had a delicious toasted Cornish blue cheese, homemade beetroot chutney and red onion sandwich which went down a treat. The flavours complemented each other so well toghether and it came with a really tasty salad. My wife had homemade houmous, tomato chutney and carrot which, she informed me, was lovely. Good value and delicious, thankyou.

I bloody love this place! The tart is always amazing, big and chunky and delicious. Beautiful salads too. I personally love the owner's no nonsense service. She's just real. And I find her lovely, she just doesn't pander to customers who think the world revolves around them, and rightfully so. She's always sweet to me (and my baby) and the food is always top notch. Excellent art on the walls too.

Am a regular, mainly for lunch though I have been in the evenings. The food is always a joy. Cooked in small quantities, fantastic attention to detail with homegrown vegetables. I see that Nicola has stuck up for herself on one of the reviews below - good on her. Pea Souk is very small and I am always aware of this when I go in, there's no room for any messing about. Its intimate, informal and magical - you have to understand this to enjoy it!

As an intermittent regular at Pea Souk I was surprised to read on this website that Nicola seems to have fallen foul of a few disgruntled diners, which I guess is because she's not that interested in obsequiously toadying to people who make no attempt to connect with the Pea Souk way of doing things. Pea Souk is very much her domain where the hostess and staff take a personal interest in their customers; where the food is lovingly prepared from fresh ingredients, not locally sourced from supermarkets, or catering vans; where the conversation isn't limited to 'enjoy' and 'have a great day', but in which there is genuine concern and interest in her clientele. I don't think there are many restaurants that really prepare their own food from scratch the way Nicola does, and the taste of her dishes is testament to the care she puts into everything she does. It is, of course, a very small restaurant and therefore by necessity Nicola has to accommodate everyone as best she can, and trying to own your own space at the expense of fellow diners is not going to work here. Try thinking of Nicola as a benevolent headmistress and you'll love it as I do.

Arrived at 12:30 for lunch, not greeted upon arrival even though there was no one else in the cafe. Ordered chilli with potato wedges. A woman then appeared from the kitchen and abruptly told us that the wedges weren't cooked yet. My friend and I decided to do a little shopping and go back in half an hour. We went back and sat at a small table & took a spare chair from another table rather than take up the large table. The same woman from earlier then said we were to move tables with a lady that was sat on her own and said that she had to have complete control over the seating! She was very rude and at this my friend and I decided to leave and eat elsewhere. The man that was serving came after us and apologised! I've never been to an eating place and been spoken to in such a manner. My friend and I were disgusted and will not ever return. Shame because the menu sounded lovely. Unfortunately we didn't sample the food. This woman should not have any dealings with customers.

We specifically went looking for Pea Souk because we wanted a veggie restaurant. The man serving was lovely and friendly and the food was delicious and there were loads of vegan options. We loved the informal atmosphere and the eclectic decor and furnishing. Very small and can't seat many which is a shame. Great cakes and flapjacks. We were having a lovely time except that a woman (the boss? Chef?) came out and glared at us and was decidedly unwelcoming. Made us want to leave as soon as we could. Which is a real shame because it is exactly the sort of place we love and we wish there were more places like it.... We hope it does well and we will definitely try it again when we return.

Falmouth has quite a selection of places to enjoy a lunch, and as we parked in a small car-park behind the main street we were fortunate enough to discover this snug little restaurant. I really enjoy a good Meze on a plate, and often I feel a slight disappointment in regards to the portion as I really enjoy this sort of food. I have to say that the food looked amazing and really made me feel like I was about to tuck into something great, and I was not disappointed as it was wonderfully tasty, and a good size portion. The service was smooth and prompt as the restaurant suddenly filled up with a good collection of us lunch visitors all at once. Its now a favorite place for my next visit. This place is definitely with discovering.

The worst restaurant I have ever been in. Rude lady. Did not want children on the premises. Huffed and puffed while 'making' and heating up a few items of food. Barked orders at fellow worker. Mouldy fruit on counter. Burnt falafals. Burnt burger. Small portions. Expensive. Could never recommend. Enough to turn you into a meat eater.

I have visited both day and in the evening recently, and both times the food I have eaten has been excellent. Its a small café, and that's exactly what it is in the evening, a café. Please don't go expecting anything other than informality. I had the homemade tart in the daytime, with the owners homegrown vegetables - just melt in the mouth. In the evening, we had cavolo nero, feta and pine nut fritters, a delicious south indian curry. For pudding we savoured a mesmeric apple, almond and orange b'stilla, which is a morrocan filo parcel type thing - absolutely delicious. We would highly recommend this lovely café.
