Fantastic selection of wines, great service and ambient atmosphere made for a perfect drink. Looking forward to trying the chicken and chips which looked very nice indeed.

Love this place! Visit often for the Cremant and fab wine selection. Perfect night if you can get a seat! Only had cheese board which was pretty good.

Paysan is an awesome wine venue, one of the best that Chester has to offer, with Cavern of The Curious Gnome upstairs for beer lovers. The staff are all an absolute delight. If you're not sure what to have, they will listen to what you say you like and then find you something delicious and perfect. The chicken and chips is banging too.

A week ago, I visited this fantastic hidden gem with friends. The bar staff made it such a joy. I returned this week and the bar staff were so rude and aggressive toward me and my family. I respect they want to go home at midnight. When we ordered a bottle of red wine and a bottle of white, I wasn't told I had 30 minutes to drink them, otherwise they'd be taken away and that's exactly what happened. I found the staff then to be so intimidating and I was fearful, as I honestly thought one of them was going to hit me, as he was raging. What a shame this happened. I was even asked by a passing policeman if I was alright, as I appeared scared. 'A customer is a privilege and not someone that should be taken for granted'. Customers have choices where they shop. When times get lean and customers don't return, please take responsibility.

We were told about Paysan and then saw it by chance so thought we would pay it a visit. We absolutely loved it. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. I had the house red. It was such a nice drinkable red wine at a reasonable price. We also had the cheese board and Italian meats. Again, really good food and reasonably priced. It might have taken us awhile to find it but I can’t wait to return!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Dropped in for a bottle on a Friday afternoon and grabbed a seat by the window as was reletively quiet when we arrived but soon got very busy. Nice ambiance with good tunes in the background and the barman was very helpful. Will defo be back again and not just for the wine but for the cheese too 👌

Absolutely fabulous. Atmosphere great, staff equally good, service quick and efficient despite being really busy. Favourite place in Chester. Food is lovely and so vast a range of wines, which they are happy to help with finding the one to your taste, thank you all at Paysan.

Lovely bar on the upper levels in Chester, very helpful and pleasant staff when choosing a glass of wine, very quiet on an afternoon with comfortable seats near to the window to watch the world go buy. Reasonably priced glasses and bottles of wine.

A very simple menu giving a choice of chicken and chips or veggie chilli. Both very tasty. We also had a cheese board. Cracking cheese, Gromit!

Situated in the heart of Chester, upstairs, overlooking the main street then this is for you. The wine selection is, as the French would say, formidable! A vast variety of wine, easily enough to satiate the most refined palate, Paysan is an oasis in the desert of chain restaurants/pubs. Couple with an amazing selection of salamis and cheeses this is THE place in Chester to grab a light bite and a wonderful wine. Best time you’re in Chester hunt out this superb little place. It’s the epitome of Chester Chic.

Great selection of ales and beers upstairs where we wanted to sample something out of the ordinary and good. Had a pickled egg and Parsnip crisps to assist the Titanic chocolatey stout on a mellow early Sunday evening. Great unique atmosphere, and well priced, dares to be different , and still vey popular.

Upstairs is a great space for solid Belgium and craft beer.

Paysan is a charming wine bar tucked away on Chester’s Bridge Street Row East. It has a rustic charm with low mood lighting ambiance. The wine is of excellent quality and the venue has won loyal support from a regular crowd. Upstairs there is the added attraction of a specialist beer pub with a juke box that feeds music to both floors. There is a great atmosphere here. Enjoy.

Love this place. Cheese platter is ideal, great quality and value. Plenty of wine to choose from. Seems very popular now...had to queue to get in and this was 2 pm on a Saturday...but didn't take long. Will return soon.

Over 200 wines, 25 by the glass, weekly updates and all at extremely reasonable prices. Great atmosphere, good music and very friendly and helpful staff---special mention for Will and Filip. Menu small but wine friendly, especially an excellent cheeseboard served with 4 cheeses, 3 breads plus chutney all for £7. They also do rotisserie chicken served with frites and mayo from Wednesday to Sunday, plus some snacks like parsnip crisps. No booking but they will always find you a seat, even if it is in the kitchen. Upstairs is a brew den with a massive selection of worldwide brews.

Called in yesterday afternoon, lucky to get a table. Great atmosphere, the place was buzzing and lively. Good selection of music and could hear a good vibe coming from upstairs. We ordered a cheese board which arrived quickly with lovely flavours indeed. Definitely will be back.

We popped in for half a lager and were asked to leave half way through it for No apparent reason. We are all mature people and sensible. I certainly will not return, We are well known in the City and the Doorman who knew us didn't understand why manager had asked us to go, they had just sent him over to tell us.. It was only 9pm ish so we had only just walked in there. Very strange Customer service and skills!

Incredible choice of beer and wine. Quirky decor but I find the upstairs bar too busy with not enough seating available and I simply don't get the downstairs area where you cab end up seated in the deli.

Like beers, IPAs or ale... Get yourself to the top floor, enjoy a glass of wine.. bottom floor for you. Each floor is a dream. I've never been to anywhere quite like it, no compromise both wine drinkers and beer drinkers catered for perfectly. The staff are excellent, not sure which of the vast array of beers is for you, just ask, the staff are genuinely interested and experts in what they do, I tried a few different beers I'd never had before, all 3 were spot on. You feel welcome from the moment you arrive, it's the small things like acknowledging you as you walk in and saying bye as you leave, makes a big difference. A proper establishment ran by people with a passion for what they do. What more could you want ?

This wine bar is located in one of the upper levels of Chesters wonderful historic Rows. It has a lovely interior and a good atmosphere. There is an excellent choice of wine, we very much enjoyed our visit.

I love this place but they have taken ambient lighting to a new extreme. We were in the Cavern of the Curios gnome on Saturday, it was so dark you could not see much certainly not the labels on the beer pumps. We left after...

This is one of my favourite places in Chester, lovely laid back vibe, fantastic range of wines, bistro food, coffees, friendly staff etc. Upstairs visit the Cavern of for brilliant beers. Oh and there's a giant gnome! It's on Bridge Street Rows, up the main stairs into the Rows, turn right and a short walk down. Don't tell too many people though, I love it ❤

Amazing wine bar up on the Rows with a huge selection and expert advice (great pub upstairs too). Try the unbelievably good rotisserie chicken in a basket with home made chips and aioli 🤤. The staff are all legends, it’s one of our favorite spots in town ❤️

And an absolute gem of for a beer lover hidden upstairs within is the Cavern of the Curious Gnome. With an amazing choice of beers on tap and bottled. Just brilliant for people watching and relaxing. Great place to try some different wines and have a chilled out chat. Nice staff too. Something different in the heart of Chester, a great way to experience the rows. Being a veggie the rotisserie chicken is not for me…but I am told it is fab.

Awesome place with huge range of wine by the bottle, knowledge staff and a chicken and chips to die for. They also do great cheese and coffee. Please don't tell anyone about it, I love a quiet Sunday afternoon in there with the crossword.

No bookings, just walk ins. Great atmosphere and good service. Plenty of choice of wine and fizz in Paysan. Then beers upstairs in the Gnome. Menu is simple but works - chick and ships. They were delicious!

My first visit to Paysan last night after many friends have raved about it.... I was not disappointed. The staff were friendly and very informative on wine choices. Can’t wait to return. The chicken and chips is to die for. Highly recommended for wine lovers

Excellent place, tucked away on the upper level of the Rows in Chester. The BEST Fleurie I've had in a long time! Very friendly staff and there's even a secret beer (mainly Belgian) place upstairs with an amazing selection! Busy but the staff cope well. Definitely be back soon!

Beautiful wine and chilled, relaxed atmosphere. Paysan means "Peasant" - and Paysan certainly lives up to that with a snobbery-free wine bar. Always has excellent choice , helpful and down to earth staff... And a marvellous cheese board.

Just had my second visit here with 4 friends...we all had the Chicken n chips in Basket!! we all loved it & our wine was so good. Olly served us & was so helpful choosing the wine we liked & great service too. Nev was on tonight the owner & very friendly/chatty. Thanks guys for a good evening...great place to relax & spend with good friends.... It is a nice casual place to enjoy good food / wine!!!

What can I say? It’s a wine bar and we did get (very expensive) wine. We had, however, hoped to have something to eat with it at lunchtime. The menu is very limited midweek but we thought that a cheese board and a terrine board (the only things on the menu) would make a light lunch for four of us. We ordered and waited, and when we had nearly finished our first bottle of wine, we were told that they had no terrine as they were waiting for a delivery! As one of our party did not eat cheese this was a problem and we wished that we had been told this at the outset.That said we were given extra bread (which was very nice and we weren’t charged for it) but we couldn’t really call it lunch. To be fair the terrine was delivered after we had almost finished our second bottle of wine and we were asked if we still wanted it but it was too late for us. Although the staff were very pleasant, I don’t think we will return. We were the only customers too so clearly something is wrong here - during the day at least.

Super place for a beer or a glass of vino. Upstairs for beer ground floor for wine. Excellent bottled beer selection. Very interesting place!! Highly recommend!

A great selection of wines by the glass. We had two great food boards, one cheese and the other terrine. Really nice atmosphere, and really busy on a night other places were empty. Need to come back to try the beer.

Amazing selection of beers! Wow I was so impressed with the amazing selection of Belgian beers. The staff really understand what beers they are selling and how to match them to a customers needs. I love a dark beer with lots of flavour and they didn’t let me down. I also had a smoked German beer, which was inspired. If you like beer, it’s a must.
