When visiting chorley nothing beats having a mooch around the market with a portion of fish and chips from the finest chippy for miles around .Its a marvellous building with a sit in cafe upstairs and a dumb waiter delivery system that you dont see anymore. The prices are fantastic (£2.90 for a small fish and chips)and the icing on the cake is that they let you put your own salt and vinegar on.I implore you to grab yourself an open bag of fish and chips before these wonderful places disappear.

Ordered the plaice special which wad£6.20. This includes chips, peas, bread, a drink and a lovely large fillet of plaice. Fish and chips cooked well, not greasy and nice and crisp. Excellent mushy peas. Sat upstairs in the old school type dining room and served by 2 lovely ladies. Excellent food and value

Called in here by chance when shopping in Chorley. Ordered meat pie, chips, peas and gravy also got bread and butter and a mug of tea for the exceptional price of £5 . Couldn't believe the price and thought it wouldn't be that great but I was wrong. It was lovely and very substantial portions too. Only criticism was the lack of seating only 3 tables as the upstairs was closed. Will definitely tell people about this gem of a place.

A proper traditional chippy in the centre of town. Small seating area where I had a most delightful small fish, chips and peas with a drink for less than a fiver. Chips nice and crisp, fish lightly battered and very white and tasty. My chippy of choice in Chorley

found this place when we came to the market on tuesday. the best fish and chips we have had. noticed that most of the takeaways were ordering fish so it must have a good reputation, can't wait to visit again.

It was our first time in Chorley and first time at this fish and chip cafe. It was Tuesday and a busy market day. I notice people mention an upstairs area but that must of been closed due to Covid when we visited on 3rd Nov. We sat downstairs in a cozy area with three tables. Friendly staff who came and took our order of 2 x small fish, chips, mushy peas and 2 teas. Everything arrived after a few minutes and was all nicely cooked, fresh tasting and hot. Even though it was labelled as 'small' it was still a very good portion and for £4.50 each was very good value. Will definitely visit again when in the area.

Having not had a chippy meal for a long time, and certainly not eaten one in the cafe for years, I called today with my daughter who fancied chips for lunch. I ordered the standard fish chips peas and a drink and it was cooked fresh and was just delicious! Glad these traditional chippies are still doing well - naughty but nice!

This is what I would call a proper chippy. Like a time warp from the early seventies. The female staff are a delight and more importantly the food is good. Had a small fish dinner which was cooked fresh and really tasty. Dining area both up and downstairs.

Used to use this restaurant/take away at least once a week but since the new owners took over I have used it less and less. Chips are greasy and all stuck together by the time you unwrap them and my last fish was raw in the middle. Have found an alternative so won't be back.

I have already said that another chippy if the best chippy in Chorley, well this is also the best chippy in Chorley, in my opinion. Go upstairs and eat in with a brew, simple pleasures. Reminds me of my Grandarents when we used to go to, I think, to this Chippy when it was on Livesey Street.

I dropped daughter and grandson at kevs wing tsun class at 550pm on chorley high St and needed something tasty fast . In close proximity was pawsons and Sir Henry tate. I weighed up the prices of both and opted for pawsons. Large cup of tea . Small fish chips and peas . £5.50 I was not disappointed. I asked for lightly battered fish and that's wat I got. I am amazed at the negative reviews. Best advice I can give is try it yourself and then you will see the negative reviewers have issues or just don't like the fact the new owners are Portuguese. Or maybe they just loved the previous owners. Who knows .

This used to be the best chippy in Chorley until it was taken over earlier in the year, the business used to to fantastic food and customer service but now the ladies that serve you are still all lovely but you can see they are clearly embarrassed by the standard of food that they have to serve, also the two people that are in charge have no idea at all how to serve food and run a business, cleanliness is also an issue here, you only need to look at the man frying the fish to understand this. All in all we will never step foot in here again and I would strongly advise that you don't either! Avoid at all costs

The quality of the chips served was poor to say the least. Two friends and I entered the shop and waited 5 minutes before even being served. When finally served, we had to wait another 10 minutes which is to be expected. After the wait, we were given chips that clearly had not just been cooked and were far from fresh. Many were, in fact, black and well over-done. Not only this, but they were actually cold.

Chorley market day on Tuesday is the place to go for the most marvelous fish and chips at lunchtime if you are lucky enough to get a table! The shop also does take aways and has a restaurant upstairs in which it can be difficult to get a table on Market days however It is most definitely worth a wait though. Superb fish and chips, friendly and professional staff and very quick and attentive service. For my son who grew up with us in Chorley and our 6 year old grandson who now live in Holland it is the first place they want to go when they come over to visit. Delicious food and very reasonably priced too.

Ate in the café here last week, previously I have only ever had chips to takeaway which have always been nice. We both had the small special which cost around £4.50 for fish, chips, peas & a drink. The menu should read child's portion not small, I couldn't believe it when it was served on a side plate! While the chips were nice, the batter on the fish was thick & soggy & the mushy peas were thick & dry. In future if I want fish & chips to eat in I'll stick with the café at the big lamp chippy where the fish & chips are always tasty & you get a proper portion for the same price.

With access through the Old corn Mill antiques centre, the Vintage Tea Room is beautifully clean, but has a rather spartan appearance; reminiscent of a works canteen. and lacks refinement in presentation. Our bacon sandwiches were well filled with delicious, well cooked bacon; but the two slices of bread should have been destined for 'doorstep' toast. Although fresh and of a decent texture and taste, the thickness of the bread tended to detract from the filling. Whilst we were asked if we would like any cutlery or sauces, we had to request a paper napkin. Appearances do matter, and it was a little off-putting to see a man, who we presumed be the cook, simply dressed in ordinary outdoor clothes, wandering around outside with tea towel over his shoulder. The staff were friendly and helpful; the menu interesting and quite extensive for a small establishment, and we are sure that other meals would be as well cooked and tasty as was our bacon filling. A little more attention to detail would make a huge difference. Oh yes - and the coffee was good.

Hartwood Hall is 'ok' if you are stuck for somewhere. We stayed on a Sunday evening and by 6pm all the Sunday roast menu was unavailable, along with a number of other side & main dishes. Tables in the pub area had plates and glasses left on them for well over an hour and it was not busy. No issues with the food we ordered, and it arrived quickly. The room was boiling hot even though the radiator was off, bed rock hard and uncomfy, shower woeful dribble but all fairly clean. TV remote very dirty/dusty between the buttons so needed a wet-wipe. Breakfast was ok, apart from drinks glasses being dirty and stuck face down to a small wooded tray; plus the cleaner was hoovering throughout the pub as the hotel guests ate breakfast. Should be done before or after breakfast. Pub staff are all friendly and helpful.

I went here for a coffee and was expecting it to be peaceful being located in a park. I was wrong! The place was more like a dog kennel than a cafe and so as you can imagine very noisy! Add to that it's expensive and the coffee was not good. Won't be returning!
