Fabulous Sunday Roast, love the atmosphere, friendliness and service here. Please don't ever change

Came on Saturday for food, the Malaysian chicken curry is amazing, the chips are unreal possibly some of the best I’ve ever had. Staff were all really nice and friendly including sailor (pub pup) and the food came quickly. Can’t wait to return!

Good value and good food, a little short of staff on the day we visited, but the staff that were there went out of their way to help with the service.

Our Local "Pubs" have been, of late, torn down from what they used to be, due to various reasons. The "Publican" - i.e. the bar owner, was once a central person in the Community whom every- one knew. Times have changed somewhat these days, especially within the Rural "Communities" (of what is left).

Amongst the best Sunday roast dinners I’ve ever had, been here many times and the standards are consistently high, the pub is dog friendly which I love, Harry is a great chef and is a demon at making gravy.

Went tonight with party of 4 plus baby, can't fault it, great atmosphere, the food was absolutely delicious, 2 had the beef Sunday roast and said it was nicest they have had and rest had pizza which was lovely, we will definitely be back.

Lovely friendly pub didn't eat just called in for a drink after a long walk.

Lovely pub & amazing home cooked food! The chef has lived in Thailand & does a great Thai or Malaysian Curry (choose strength), Salmon & noodle dish recommended. Freshly cooked cheese & onion pie & jerk chicken burger on the menu today. The chips are proper home-cooked & highly recommended! We have never been disappointed with any meals here 😋 x

We came here for dinner before going to the gin distillery due to near location. We were not disappointed the food was lovely and a friendly welcome.

Food was very nice, easy to find, Waitresses were very pleasant.

Started coming here every other Friday or so with friends, the staff and owner are very friendly, the service is great, and the pizzas especially are very nice. Wouldn’t go to any other pub to be fair, small but great :) (dogs are welcome too which is a bonus)

Organised to eat here as we were staying close by whilst travelling down to Nottingham. Very welcoming landlady who remembered me from our messages. Three of us ordered the carvery and unfortunately there was an issue with a new roast of beef and a very apologetic landlady advised us we would be able to have only turkey. What a plateful it was when it arrived. Absolutely gorgeous and almost three empty plates, just to much for my fiancee and grandson to finish. Our two granddaughters ordered pizzas. These again were well received and far too big to be finished so were boxed up for a snack back at the Travelodge. If ever in the area again, we will certainly be back.

8 of us booked Sunday Lunch after a morning walk. Roast Dinners were all delicious and large plates - choice of meats or nut roast when you order, various home-cooked veg, Yorkshire pud, lots of thick gravy. Plus good beer. Very good value. We got soaked on our walk but dried off over lunch in this cosy pub. We have booked to go again in a few weeks!

It seems everybody is talking about the Lord Nelson these days. Had to visit to see what the buzz was about. Pub seem friendly enough, lively with a number of dogs running around. Beer was decent. Solid.

Went into pub tonight. Waited 5 minutes to get served with a drink at the bar. Even though it was quiet. Dog running loose. Place stunk. Football was on. Three males sat near bar watching same and their language was atrocious and children nearby. One had a Royal Mail jacket on who was the worst culprit. A disgrace in a public area. What a disgrace considering we used to visit regularly. The Landlord/Landlady needs to get a grip.

Stayed in our motorhome in the rear car park, owners were so friendly and welcoming. Had drinks and fantastic homemade pizza. Dog friendly. This is our third time staying and we will be back again.

Great place for a pint and a chat

Sunday lunch with some friends. 3 of us chose from the Carvery Menu while one chose from the pizza menu. We had 2 rump beef and 1 had the "3 meats". The other had a mushroom pizza. Everything cooked to perfection. The 3 meat eaters also each had the biggest pig in blanket and it was delicious. Fantastic choice of pizzas. Looks like a pub restaurant but the food we had was top notch restaurant quality. Thank you. Highly recommended

We dined here today for the third time and for the third time it has been excellent, the Lord Nelson is dog friendly and for me I love that and I don’t even have a dog. The roast dinner is perfect, the gravy is rich but in a good way, the whole experience was great. Thank you.

Great Sunday dinners & pizzas - Harry is a great chef - best to book in advance.

Visited for Sunday lunch, regularly visit and the food is always superb as is the service. Harry’s 3 meat roast dinner is superb and the gravy is just the best you’ll ever taste. An added bonus today was Harry’s cheesecake, easily one of the best I’ve ever tasted (and I’ve tasted a lot of cheesecake in my time!!)

Visited the Lord Nelson with a friend early evening on Thursday, had the Steak and Ale pie which was the best homemade pie ever, so much filling, veg also delicious, well done to the chef and the young lady who served with a lovely welcome and smile, cannot wait to return

Food brilliant, staff excellent, atmosphere warm and homely. A great place to eat, drink and/or be merry. The outdoor space is perfect for children and if you choose to take your loyal companion, s/he will love it too. Safe and friendly. I have held a few family parties here too and Sasha the landlady is very accommodating.

Busy pub with a great atmosphere. We ordered the Sunday lunch and the beef was cooked to perfection with all the trimming including Yorkshire pudding and a selection of veg and potatoes. Service was quick and the staff very friendly. Football was on but we were seated away from the screen and able to enjoy the company of other friends and other diners. 10 out of ten to Sasha and Harry for making our Sunday lunch into a special occasion.

Stopped here for food a few times, always received a warm & friendly welcome. Tried a variety of meals on the menu & never been disappointed with anything I've had. Tried the home made cheese & onion pie today. Wow, thought my mums cheese pie was good, sorry mum this was better. Will definitely come back.

My wife and I were fortunate enough to spend an afternoon and evening at The Lord Nelson after travelling down from the Lake District. The building is over 350 years old and has so much character. The pub is so welcoming and there is a wonderful family atmosphere with dogs particularly welcome. We enjoyed an amazing Sunday lunch of perfectly cooked roast beef, rich buttery mashed potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and fresh vegetables, covered by a rich gravy. It was the best Sunday roast I can remember. Later in the early evening we were able to share a drink and chat with Harry, the exec chef and Sasha who effortlessly manages the bar and front of house. We also shared one of Harry’s fantastic garlic bread pizzas with masses of mozzarella. What a great way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon and evening. Thank you Harry and Sasha for a wonderful time and we will definitely try and visit again when we are in the area.

I was treated for Fathers Day to a Sunday dinner out, and after reviewing several pubs locally we decided on The Lord Nelson. I’ve only had the takeaway dinners from there so I really didn’t know what to expect.Wow! We were utterly blown away by the friendly character of the place, the friendly staff and the food itself over delivered and was in a different league. We had the Three meats Sunday dinner. From the presentation to the quality of each of the ingredients, beautiful.The deserts were beautifully presented and tasted delicious too.A limited menu but what was on it was good quality … at very reasonable prices!We will be going back often.

Great food and unexpected due to the modesty of the landlady who said they were doing a basic menu.We had the chicken burger.Moist succulent chicken breast with jerk spices on a sesame bun, delicious homemade chips and tasty fresh coleslaw. It was superb.Great food, great beer and very friendly hosts. Highly recommended.

Lovely food - Highly recommend the Sirloin Steak with Harry’s sauce. We received a warm welcome and, after checking in as per Covid rules we were seated at our table. We placed a drinks order which arrived promptly and we were given time to peruse the menu- lots of tempting dishes but we both plumped for the sirloin steak. We were not disappointed! The steak was cooked just as we ordered and the sauce was delicious. The chips were the best I have had for a long time, I often find they are too thick and have no taste, these were spot on.I hope that the pub can continue to run during this uncertain time, would highly recommend a visit and would advise booking to help ensure you get the best experience. We will definitely be going back.Thanks Harry and Sasha.

Had the best food ever, i had the salmon, my wife had the famous cheese and onion pie,,, omg it was fantastic,,, the chocolate mousse,,, what can i say it was awsome, sasha made us feel welcome, and harry the chef came to our table and made us feel really special,,,, well done would recommend this lovely pub to everyone

We went here for tea on Sunday although the food was good the menu was very limited, I had looked at the website before we went but I couldn't see anything about a limited menu... it was basicly Sunday dinner or pizza & that was it...

I’ve always been here for pizza’s but I tell you what, the burger was unbelievable, top pub top food top service, would 100% recommend!

Had the salmon and the burger, amazing food, at good prices! Lovely, welcoming staff. Harry is some boy! Dog and child friendly, would recommend, we will be returning.

Had a roast here today and was pretty disappointed. The beef was chewy and who actually thinks giving one roast potato is acceptable ??!! They explained that they had a big order on but no excuse really. If theres not enough food to go around then dont take the order.

Delicious meal tonight perfectly cooked medium rare steak, delicious home made cheese pie and Thai Chicken Curry with lots of chicken and fresh vegetables all made by Harry. Covid secure - its all down to you to comply and if you do you’ll make sure it’s safe for all.
