Great takeaway fish and chip shop the lady behind the counter was lovely and helpful very good price food nice hot and fresh

What the hell are battered chips all about, must be a local delicacy! (definatley not something we have 'up North) Which I will not be partaking of again. They could ask if you want battered chips! Fish was Nice tho'

The food was lovely, would have been nice to receive the correct order. The service was unfortunately diabolical, the lady with coloured hair just couldn't butt out and kept interrupting and unnecessarily correcting the other lady serving me. This resulted in my order being confused no less than 4 times, and she was still doing it when bagging the order so when I got to the caravan, I was missing a meal. If one person would have just listened and taken my order correctly instead of arguing with each other, then the service wouldn't have got zero stars. Try writing the order down and one person to one customer might help. Sorry Paul, the food was great & well cooked just let down by crappy service.

Never had battered chips before they were brilliant

Came here for the battered chips as do many people. Really crispy and very filling. The orange coloured crispy haddock is also very filling. Not my favourite chippy but a great choice for us for a bag of chips.

First time ibe been here for fish and chips and I have to say it was definitely one of the best I've had

Really good chips battered which is excellent. Curry sauce really good and sausage is great not greasy. Got loads salt vinegar when you ask for it .unlike other places. Will go back try other food .

I usually go out of my way to get fish and chips from Paul's. Many years of great tasty food. Cooked and fresh But last evening I ordered twocodand large portion of chips. Took it home anticipating a delight. But the chips were extremely poor. At least 80 %was batter scraps and what chips were there were dry and poor quality a and dregs. No good andablot on the usualofferings

Paul and his staff are on par with the food, absolutely first class.

Paul’s Plaice is the best Fish & Chips I’ve ever eaten hands down! The chips are absolutely amazing, beer battered and cooked to perfection as is the Haddock. Let’s not forget the mushy peas. Would highly recommend Paul’s Plaice as the best Fish and Chips in the Bay!!

Went tonight awful dark hard chips I think re heated from dinner time (awful )couldn't eat them ...if you want fish and chips expect them to be mushed together with batter and all tastes the same !! I hate their chips anyway !!they don't resemble chips🤣 I Went for someone else !!! and one woman is always rude with a face like a slapped bum .. no customer service what so ever they used to have pride in their product but now you get what ever raw chips ,.thick clumped together ie balls of batter , not much batter chips and Ok chips Bit hit and miss .... every photo on here is different ..point taken

Visited Paul's place tonight to grab dinner for the kids, staff seemed nice enough. Why on earth do you batter your chips? They're awful! And looking at our reviews a lot if people think the same. Otherwise food was good. Only accept Cash which seems a bit out of date.

Best fish and chips I’ve ever had, can’t go anywhere else now.

Omg....luminous orange batter over everything including the chips! So much so even the very small cod within was stained orange..anf at a whopping 8.75 it was pretty tasteless too. The worst thing though was the service.. I went in after a shift at the hospital in my uniform. The server looked me up and down and gave me as filthy a look as her hands were before I even got to the counter. Not a please or a thank you in sight. Clearly got a 'chip' on her shoulder (pun intended) with the NHS. Save your money, there are significantly better places to be insulted in, in Torquay.

Was really looking forward to having a nice take away. Checked the opening times on line. 10pm close. Arrived at 1950 only to be told rudely that they were closed. I was not the only customer that turned up. Foods great but you need better staff and a updated web site

Chips were disgusting, not even a third of them were edible due to green and black chips. The fella behind the till was friendly enough but i can honestly say that in my 50 years of gracing this planet, this has got to be the worst ever food from a chippy i have ever experienced. Shame, but true

Miserable unfriendly woman serving, borderlne rude! (The gentleman was friendlier) food was ok, fish good but chips quite greasy. Unfortunately I would not recommend this shop when there are other (nicer and better staffed) chip shops near by.

Not very friendly could not be bothered attitude and chips are battered worst chips I've ever had as in photo I left most of them.

Tried chips for the first time from this chip shop but couldn't eat them as they had batter on them (greasy batter gives me indigestion). Not told their chips were battered. Tastless & very greasy chips. A waste of £3.60. Will not be going there again!

Got home chips all full batter and batter everywhere nowhere do they tell you this just wasted 5 pounds

I wish I read the reviews before going here, but it was just a convenience whilst on holiday. Why have they decided to cover their chips in batter, the only thing I believe it adds to them is the ability to hold more grease, the paper was drenched with it when we plated the food up. As far as I'm aware there were no obvious signs to say they were covered in batter. Another issue was they were cash only, not sure if it was just last night or if its a permanent thing, it was lucky I carry some hidden away cash on me. The staff were friendly.

Pauls Plaice, is the freshest best fish n chips in the bay. The chips are coated in a very thin batter and the fish is so fresh. I love this chippy..x

Always friendly and polite!! Family run and very welcoming. The chips are great if you like batter on your chips! All the food is fresh and delicious!! Clean, efficiently run and just a great chippy in my humble opinion.

Very rude person tonight, don’t rarely go and probably won’t be again. No need to be rude and got nothing to do with being busy she’s been the same when they’re hasn’t been anyone in there. Short lady reddish hair, tied up. No manners clearly not trained on customer service although they probably don’t care as enough people go there. God knows why it’s not even that good.

Used to be a nice fish and chip shop. Tonight the staff were not the usual staff, very unfriendly, said they close at 20:45 so not cooking more food (just after 20:30). Therefore, unable to get anything. They then left at 20:55 with their own food. I assume they have been taken over or just employ poor staff now? Also, apparently shut at 20:00 on a Saturday? Really? Shame, wont be going back there.

I quite liked them but the chips were battered (looked oddly orange, apparently it's a thing) it wasn't mentioned or on the menu that I could see. Reasonably priced nice curry sauce. The kids didn't eat them and the missus only had a few...

Delicious fish, freshly cooked to order and really enjoyed the battered chips. Kids had nuggets, sausages and a burger and ate the lot.

One of the best 'Chippies' in Torquay. Beautiful fresh fish, cod to die for, golden chips all cooked to perfection. Highly recommended.

Really tasty fish and chips. Chips had an interesting batter on them which made them quite unique to other chippy's I've been too. Was busy with a line of people outside which is a good indicator of its popularilty. Staff friendly although felt rushed as two members of staff were tag teaming speaking to me at the same time which got a little stressful (although understandable if there.trying work down a queue)

I turned up late but the staff went the xtra effort to make my order, great food, friendly staff all round great service and food thumbs up 👍👍

Visited here whilst staying with relatives very generous portions reasonably priced and enjoyed the battered chips as made change from the norm! Def worth a try😋

Had fish and chips, first time here as we are on holiday, got back to our accommodation and to our surprise the chips are battered. Probably the best chips I have ever had. The whole meal was spot on!!

Sorry , didnt like it at all. Far to greasy and fish was stained yellow on the top from the oil / batter. My partner & i threw it away. Wasn't aware you got battered chips no matter what either.

Battered chips and good quality fish. This should earn 5 stars but 4 as it's cash only (suspect?) (covid19. Hello?), whilst the chips are on a polystyrene tray and the carrier bag is plastic.

Best chips I have ever had. Living in Brixham, I only work down the road in the local paint shop and didn't know the area too well, I was recommended these by the boys so I had to give them a go. So glad I did, they are glorious. A regular lunch menu now.

Memorably unique batter. Always enough staff on to meet peak demand. Proper fast food. These people know how to run a chippy.

4 of us came for cod and chips recently and whilst the chips were nice and enjoyable the cod was so obviously cooked from frozen. Hard, greasy batter, was definitely not fresh which is disappointing as the unique chips Paul's plaice offer are absolutely lovely.

Went to Paul’s plaice on Friday for lunch and I’m still being sick early hours of Sunday. I was not Ill previously whatsoever. I think the grease is too much and just thinking about it is making me feel sick. I’ve had just chips before this time I got fish and will not be returning
