Lovely restourant, we were served by Dean, so lovely and gentle. The food was so good, i gave 4 cause the pasta for the baby was too cooked. For the rest was very tasty and fresh. The best vish pie i had.

This was my first visit to this pub. I found the atmosphere was great, the staff very efficient and polite. Will be calling again

A Group of 7 of us came for Christmas 🎄lunch on Christmas day. Very disappointed 😞 the food was not hot. Potatoes tasted warmed up and turkey was watery and not good. Our first time in your beautiful Restaurant but sorry very disappointed.

We have been here a few times, hoping the service would improve. The staff need full training in customer services. They ignore you and you have to chase after them for service.

Visited for a short festive break. Food atmosphere and staff here are fabulous. Value and choice even as a vegetarian is great. So fabulous visited again the next day twice - once for cake and coffee and then for an evening meal. Staff make this place with happy to see you nothing is a problem attitude. Always our go to place when visiting

Had a wonderful meal here on Christmas Eve. The food was superb 👌 the mussels the best I have had. Service was great and we had a lovely time. Very dog friendly providing blankets for them to lay on 🥰 shame we don't live nearer otherwise we would be a regular. Thank you for a lovely meal.

What a welcoming, and Christmasy atmosphere Harbour Light had today. We were served by Dean who helped us find the gold at the end of the rainbow!!

We enjoyed our Boxing Day table service fish & chips. Warm welcome for our dogs, with fresh water and dog bowls (self-service). Staff are helpful, kind and quick to serve.

Visited as part of a trip to ride the Train of Lights, and booked for a Christmas dinner at Harbour Light beforehand. Upon arrival we were booked in by a very charming staff member who took us to our table and we were struck by how attractive the building was and by what a lovely atmosphere there was. Our starter arrived and was fine but I have to say that our main course was probably the worst and most disappointing plate of food I have ever encountered. The brussel sprouts were not just al dente, but actually hard, whilst the cauliflower cheese was basically undercooked and crunchy cauliflower drizzled with a little cheese sauce. Quite how the cook managed to produce roast potatoes that were devoid of any flavour or enjoyment is beyond me but somehow they managed it, presumably using the same skill set or lack thereof to produce slices of turkey that included copious amounts of cartilage and/or gristle. Having already politely informed the waiting staff, who were terribly apologetic, that the side vegetables were inedible, we didn't have the heart to tell them just how appalling the rest of the meal was when we were asked; we simply paid our bill and left. £84 for two starters, two main courses and a bottle of house wine is not unrealistic in this day and age, but for that I expect the food to be prepared to at the very least to a basic standard. The food we were subjected to at Harbour Light was truly, truly awful and not something we would ever wish to experience again. We suggest that whoever was responsible for producing that food take up an alternative career - mixing cement perhaps, or perhaps catering as a form of punishment for serious criminals. Never, ever again

Amazing lamb roast at Harbour Light, melt in the mouth! Fantastic meal, partner had mussels that were delicious. Great service and a lovely Christmassy atmosphere. Highly recommend.

We visited the restaurant whilst we’re on a mini break with our puppy. The staff couldn’t have been more welcoming, they brought a blanket over for our girl to lie on & were so helpful and attentive. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend visiting here!

Went for a Xmas meal with staff. Food was beautiful and good portions. Sadly took a long time to get the food initially and in between courses were extremely long. But if that is because it was busy then I will take that. Food was worth the wait. Thank you

Always make a beeline for this place whenever we visit. Stunning food for a decent price, very well plated and the atmosphere at Christmas especially is so well done. Lots of effort put in. Perfect balance of cosy local restaurant with a gorgeous seafront view and classy food.

Visited on the 9th November 2024. This is the 2nd time we have been to this restaurant and the 2nd time we have had fabulous food. Took the in-laws with us this time as it was to celebrate my birthday. My father in law had the cauliflower soup starter ( on our recommendation as we'd had it on a previous occasion), and he couldn't praise it highly enough. Mum in law enjoyed her Crab starter and Hubby said that the mussels were some of the tastiest he had ever had, and loaded with sauce. The Venison dish was beautifully cooked and presented, and hubby and I savoured the taste. In fact all the dishes we had, down to the cheese board, were fabulous and compliments were passed to the chef/s. As well as beers and spirits there are a good selection of wines available and there is nothing better than a good palatable bottle of wine when enjoying high quality food. We had such a fab meal, with good comany and in a fabulous restaurant. We did leave a gratuity and were delighted to hear that gratuities are are divided between all staff including the chefs. We look forward to travelling back to Paignton next year to enjoy another meal at Harbour Light. Thank you to everyone . Lindsey Williams

Wonderful staff; warm, friendly, and super helpful. I went early on a blustery, quiet Sunday afternoon and ate delicious pigeon breast and mussels. There’s a lovely view of the waves curling into the beach from upstairs, and the seats are so comfortable I could have stayed all evening.

A few years ago, when St. Austell Brewery renovated the old pub into the Harbour light there was a palpable sense of excitement as Paignton desperately needed a more upscale pub and eatery. Sadly my initial experience was not good and certainly not worthy of the level of excellence I expected from St. Austell Brewery. That was a few years ago. I had to attend to a personal tragedy back in the US and returned in November 2024. To celebrate my return and as a token of appreciation for my UK friends we went out for a Friday night dinner at the HL. The dining experience was considerably improved. The welcoming ambience by the host augured a wonderful evening and the place was warm and nicely lit. We were lead to the first floor dining area. The servers were very personable and knowledgeable regarding what wine would accompany our meal. We had starters, all of which were prepared to perfection and did not overwhelm the main meal. The menu offering was straight forward and unassuming, yet the meals were perfect in their portions and presentation. Desert was a perfect ending and I would recommend the sticky toffee pudding. This is now my go to establishment for all my future celebrations and casual meals. It should be yours and you will not be disappointed. Bon appétit!

Visited on a rainy and miserable Saturday, was greeted at the door by a very friendly member of staff, who passed us onto Benji who serviced us for our visit. The restaurant was very clean and had a very nice atmosphere. Benji and the rest of the team were very friendly and recommended some great choices (truffle chips were delicious 🔥) despite the atrocious weather we had a wonderful time and will be back again!

We had a couple of evenings in Paignton and ate here both nights as it was easy walking distance to our accomodation. The place is really nice inside with a reasonable collection of beers. We had fish pie and burger on our first night and had the steak special on the Thursday night. The food was really good, decent portion size and well presented. The service upstairs was very good, with all the staff being friendly and helpful. We enjoyed both nights there and would go back if we return to Paignton.

Lovely location with (unsurprisingly) views across the harbour. Attractively decorated for Christmas when we visited. Good choice of ambient but unobtrusive music. Very Attentive service. Vegetarian dish (Roast celeriac) was fantastic. So often an afterthought at most restaurants, this vegetarian (vegan?) dish was worth every penny. Huge compliments to the chef!

Just like to give an update since my last visit earlier in the year. Had another lovely meal this evening. We popped in (table for 7) and managed to get a table. Staff were great and the meal have a wide range of choices. Tries the Pigeon Starter and Brown Crab Tagliatelle as a main. Both were lovely. The rest of the party tried a number of different dishes and everyone enjoyed them. Staff were friendly and helpful as we waited for one member of our party to arrive. Great venue throughout the year, for food, atmosphere, views and drinks. Would return here again next time I'm down in the area. Had a lovely meal here recently, place was busy for a wet and windy Monday evening in springtime. Had the Lamb Scoth Egg starter, beautifully cooked to perfection and the Lobster and Crab lingine. Should of taken pictures but too busy/eager to get tucked into them! My colleagues meals were also lovely. Would got to again easily. Great decor and friendly staff. Would be great outdoors in the summertime overlooking the seafront and harbour.

Really great place to eat. The food was amazing. Between the group, we selected a variety of the main meals. All were well presented and tasted really good. No one had complaints with their choice. My personal recommendation would be the sticky toffee pudding.

Very good place to have food and drinks, not expensive. There are heaters if your cold as this place is outside under a canopy. But you are warm.

Lovely evening at the Harbour Lights. Food was great; we very much enjoyed the celeriac veggie option and truffle chips were amazing. Thanks to the staff also as we were a bit difficult, requesting to change tables part way through as there was a loud lady near us, obviously this wasn't their fault.

We just stopped off for a lovely hot chocolate. Lovely and cosy. Very friendly staff . Really appreciated not having to walk half a mile to the loo. The very friendly bar man gave us the key to downstairs one . Very thoughtful of him . Mind you not quite sure how old he thought we were 😂

Really nice atmosphere sitting outside in the harbour, staff were friendly, food (we had Sunday roast) and drink was good and pub is dog friendly. Would visit again.

Off the back of a recommendation from my dad, who has visited here before - we popped in for a drink & a light snack, & it didn't disappoint. I had the Moules Mariniere & they were perfect. The food is fabulous, as is the service. Will return when visiting Paignton again.

Went for a meal last night before going the theatre. Explained we were running a bit late and asked if they had a table. Made space for us and checked with kitchen how long food would be. Took our order and food came promptly with no fuss. Food was lovely and good value for money and service was great. All round excellent experience.

I was here with my family on July 20, 2024. The restaurant was recommended to us by our holiday accommodation provider from Bella Vista Guest House after we arrived in Paignton very hungry in the evening. We didn't want fries or the usual fish and chips. In Harbor Light you have the option of sitting on the ground floor or upper floor or even outside on the terrace or in front of the restaurant. The atmosphere is great. We got our table on the ground floor. We ordered dishes with freshly caught fish of the day. That was so delicious!!! One of us had sole and the other flatfish, along with a salad with a delicious sauce and a bowl each with several freshly cooked small jacket potatoes. Because it was so great, we went there again in the evening on July 23rd, 2024, before our journey continued to Dover. This time we made a reservation for outside on the terrace. Just enjoyed the atmosphere with the sea and the seagulls around while eating. The weather was perfect that day too! :-) On both days our child was given something to color in so he wouldn't get bored waiting for the order. If we ever come back to Paignton we would definitely go again! Highly recommended!

Absolutely fabulous. Spotlessly clean. Superb service from Libby. And great ambience. We passed on the starter and had the Chirozo Bites instead. The last time I had chirozo as good as this was in a real tapas bar in the town square in Olvera in rural Andalucia, Spain. The fish pie we had for main was also to die for. Creamy mash, creamy sauce, plenty of fish. The veg on the side was also the perfect accompaniment. Rounded off with a scoop of Treleavens ice cream. We fell in live with Treleavens at their shop in Looe and wasn't going to have pudding today until we saw the ice cream. Final mention for the St Austel Brewery Proper Job. It's one of my favourite pints and this was a fine example. All round a first class experience and highly recommended.

Catherine Bau was AMAZING! She was lovely, efficient and chatty! Food came fast and was incredible! Shout out to Eric (chef) as food was truly lovely! You can really tell they take pride in their food and service! Cannot fault at all!

Great food and service. Definitely worth a visit Always visit Harbour Light when in Paignton as the food is excellent. Service is great and restaurant is very nice. It’s not cheap here but you get what you pay for. The reason for 4 stars for food is that I find the menu limited and it can be difficult to find something that really excites (more specials would probably help).

Only stopped off for a drink and sat outside over looking the harbour with family and our dogs. Food looked lovely and a Female Singer was performing inside which created an excellent atmosphere and setting.

Went for dinner and wine with my wife. Service was friendly, food was fantastic. I had the whole lemon sole and my wife had the dressed crab.

Lovely pub on the harbour side. Great outdoor area. Upstairs restaurant is stunning. Food was very nice and reasonably priced.

Went here for a Sunday roast in the evening. Had lamb. Was a generous portion of meat and with a Yorkshire roasts and assorted veg. Was well cooked. Had crab croquettes to start they were a little disappointing.bit lacking in flavour Needed maybe a dipping sauce. Restaurant was nicely laid out and decorated. Felt cosy but modern. Staff friendly

First time here, really lovely place inside with nice views over the bay and harbour. Roast chicken was delicious. The staff are attentive and really friendly. Food reasonably priced. Definitely looking forward to come back again.

Very slow service, had to ask for wet paper to get rid of the dog hairs on table, had to ask for dry paper to get rid of previous nights rain on seats, and to top it all they forgot our order, sat for an hour waiting 😠ended up with just drinks, it may be best fish and chips in area if you're lucky enough to get them

Great position on the external balcony, nice drinks..... but service very slow just for a drinks order. Had to prompt waiter for order after waiting 15 mins...bar was not busy.

We liked the Harbour Light so much that we ate here three times during a short stay in Paignton. All the food was beautifully cooked and presented. The local fish dishes are particularly worth trying - the plaice and the battered coley were excellent. The batter was really crisp and not greasy - it shattered when the fork went in! All the staff were really friendly and couldn't do enough to ensure that we were happy with everything. From the upstairs seating are you get good views across the sands to the pier. Watch out - you'll struggle to get a table at busy times. Highly recommended by us!
