Expensive underwhelming food! I have no objection to paying for good food! This was badly prepared and presented! No creativity and our fish, Monk and Halibut was overcooked, rubbery and decidedly bland! The puddings in the interval were worth the money but everything else was horribly disappointing!

The Paul Hamlyn champagne bar is a merit to the Royal Opera House. We dined in the bar before the performance of “the magic flute” –choosing not to book The Crush Room having tried this the previous month – also, very good! We arrived promptly and were shown to our table. As per the Crush Room there was a small note on t he table detailing what we ordered for me to check on arrival, which was all correct. We choose to dine on more food while we were there as we managed to scoff down the pre-ordered food quite quickly – probably as it was so delicious! Sadly as we were ordering on the evening, the choice was quite limited, for example, I could not order the lobster salad which I so enjoyed the previous month, still, we opted for the cheese and salmon plates and sulked in silence – though to be fair, given the location, the value was quite fair. The service was given with a smile too –which is always nice after a long slog of a day in the City working before enjoying a show! We will return!

This place is not what Google says it is. We approached after searching for a decent pub in the area and as we got to the door - we noticed the Fox door knocker and saw it said members only. As we accepted defeat and tried for a little picture of the door, two dudes came out of a car and told us that not only were we not welcome there but that we couldn’t even take a picture with the .. door? Very odd and suspicious. However, I feel a little relieved since we probably just avoided a London stabbing. It’s one star only because 0 isn’t an option.

High up on the wall of this restaurant, is a plaque dedicated to the Unity of the Brethren or the Moravians. They established their chapel on this spot back in 1750's and worshiped there until it was destroyed by a bomb in World War II. The church then relocated to their "God's Acre" or graveyard off the King's Road in Chelsea. Perhaps part the Moravian legacy of this place is that it remains the seat of justice for the UK with many legal chambers and offices nearby.
