Had a fantastic meal here for my birthday. Food was excellent, service was brilliant, lovely place. Not one of those places you come across by accident as it's a bit off the beaten track.

Me and the wife visited mid week, nice pub with great atmosphere and top level service, we both had the lamb shank and must say it was perfect, very reasonably priced for both food and drinks, big shout out to Chris the bar manager for top service and a warm welcome

Sunday lunch for the 5 of us was absolutely lovely. Great food, lovely couple running the restaurant. We will definitely return as only live down the road. Beautiful interior designing too .

We love the Patternmakers. We enjoy the pub quiz on a Sunday night and the Mac and Cheese is fab! Chris is a great host.

Lovely family meal to celebrate a birthday. Fabulous service - really felt looked after, nothing was too much trouble. Both the pub area and the dining section look great! Visited The Patten Makers for Sunday lunch after a recommendation and I'm very happy to say it didn't disappoint. From the warm and friendly welcome we received walking through the door,to the last mouthful of food,everything was tip top. The staff are very friendly and attentive without being intrusive, and the food was delicious. My wife had avocado,feta and quinoa salad to start which she was very pleased with. I went for chicken liver parfait,which again was very tasty. Both were generous starters too. Onto the star of the show,Sunday lunch. We both had the roast beef and again generous amounts of vegetables and a very cheesy cauliflower cheese which we couldn't get enough of! If your looking for somewhere for Sunday lunch I highly recommend checking out the Patten Makers. And £24.95 for 2 courses (£29.95 for 3)is very fairly priced for the amount and quality of food you get.

I celebrated my 60th birthday here with my friends in the private function room . The occasion was wonderful. The staff could not do enough to help us and were most accommodating. The food was delicious and all my guests enjoyed themselves. Excellent for anyone celebrating a special occasion.

So pleased I decided to book a table for lunch here with my mum and son yesterday (Saturday 31.08.24) everything from the decor and atmosphere to the food was absolutely perfect 👌🏼 and to top it all what a great surprise to find it was Chris who is now running it so the service was fantastic! I’ve known Chris from years ago and can guarantee this beautifully refurbished pub is in very good hands and I’m sure will go from strength to strength.

Had a lovely Saturday lunch here. New manager is very friendly - food and beer are great (so nice we stayed for dessert and coffee) and the decor is very nicely done.

Met with some friends on Saturday night that we had not seen in some time. Great bar and Restaurant- Really welcoming staff. We all had a lovely meal and I would recommend this as a must visit if your in the Duffield area.

Very rarely would I go out of my way to post a review, however after our experience last night, to say we’re disappointed is an understatement. We arrived at The Patternmakers, and headed to the bar to confirm our reservation and was greeted by a man that at first we expected to of course be very polite (why wouldn’t he be?) “you will have to bear with me. At some point your reservation has been changed (there were 5 of us) as we only have you down for 2.” Well we definitely called and booked for 4 (poss. 5 - & were told over the phone not at all an issue… when we mentioned this, his response was “WELL MY SYSTEM DOESNT LIE” okay. “Please wait here in the bar, order some drinks, I will come and take your food order and when we have done rearranging the restaurant to accommodate your 5 person booking, we’ll call you through. Okay… (tbf could have sat in the bar area to eat as there was only us and one other table of 3 in there, but yes, well wait!) Drinks ordered, food ordered, time to head to the restaurant. Absolutely gobsmacked to see TWO tables accompanied. TWO. Three including ours. WHAT HAS HAD TO BE REARRANGED?!! (Photo enclosed) Food arrives, 3 starters to share, Aranchini - lovely, Cream mushrooms - lovely, Calamari - lovely…. Until a friend cuts a piece open to find a HAIR running THROUGH the batter. Call the waitress over (have to mention how lovely the waitresses were) very apologetic of course and proceeds to take the small plate away immediately “we will of course take this off the bill, we’re very sorry” No problem, thank you etc etc. continue to chat away amongst ourselves.. when we notice the man approach us for a 2nd time, again seemingly gunning for an argument. “What would you like me to do? Replace the calamari? Take it off the bill? There is no way that hair has come from our kitchen, they have short black hair and that was long and blonde. There’s no way we’re guilty off that” Okay, firstly, the situation had already been sorted by a very competent and polite young lady who had been and addressed the situation with us, secondly, “were not guilty” there is a hair running THROUGH the batter, it’s not been planted there. Things like this happen, we get it. Apologise and move on. We did eventually stop him mid conversation and advise that his argument wasn’t necessary and it had been resolved, however if he did want to come over to broach the subject, just apologise. His argumentative state had already made us uncomfortable when we first arrived. This just topped it off. Have to mention that the food itself was lovely, the ladies serving were brilliant, but the way we were treated by the man last night means we will not be returning, and we will definitely not be recommending. Could be great, one person really affected the whole experience for all of us.

A really disappointing experience. The manager was so rude and arrogant, which really ruined our entire evening and we would never return. When our group of 5 arrived he told us we had only booked for 2 people (we booked over the phone and therefore the booking was entered by one of the employees) - when we said we definitely booked for 5, he very rudely said ‘my system does not lie’. He was annoyed that he would have to ‘rearrange the dining room’, yet when we eventually went into the dining room after a very long wait - it was empty - only one other table was filled (at peak time on a Saturday night), so we were all confused about what took so long to accommodate us. Still we didn’t say anything and sat down at our table. We then ordered starters to share and we found a long blonde hair running through the batter of a piece of the calamari. We told the waitress and she politely apologized and offered to take it off the bill. We agreed. Shortly after, the manager came back over to our table to advise us that the hair was not possibly one of their chefs and said ‘in this situation we are not guilty’. He was extremely defensive and accused us of putting the hair in the food (we are also all brunette). After we asked him politely to walk away from our table as he was ruining our evening we didn’t see him again and thankfully we enjoyed our main courses without the atmosphere he had created. The staff were lovely and the food was ok but we would never return simply because of how poor the manager made our entire experience.

Came here as we were doing a weekend away, picked up from maps and checked out the menu. A lovely pub, all the staff were very welcoming and accommodating. Restaurant staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful. Food was excellent, some excellent choices and good recommendations from our server/restaurant manager, who made our evening. We would definitely recommend, and would come back if in the area again.

Too expensive all round. 2 pints and a medium glass of wine for almost £18! No wonder the place is empty! I will return though as there is a new landlord with years of experience starting at the end of July 2024 who's set to make a few changes!

Excellent family meal here. The chef cooked off menu for the vegetarian in our party and this meal, and all the others, were fabulous.

Best bread and butter pudding I have ever had!!!

Has potential but I found the food average and a bit odd.. we had a variety of meals as a group of 7 and could of been 9 of us but they said they couldn't accommodate the extra 2 people... which was odd as the place was half full and our table was set for 8 and could of easily fit onto her 2 people on...? So back to the meals I can only concentrate on my meal as I had the chicken stuffed with brie cheese and wrapped in bacon.. not sure what happened to the brie as it just wasn't there.. also the chicken was dry.. it was served with a beef stock gravy.. very odd.. the service was OK but nobody came to see if our meals were OK.. and the atmosphere was a bit lifeless.. I would say the menu looks good on paper but lacks depth..

Friends had been told about the Restaurant so we decided to try it we were not disappointed Excellent meal and wine Staff very professional and friendly We will definitely go again

First time visiting, the service was attentive , had a real non stuffy relaxing feel. The food... well, the pie was absolutely delicious as were the chips accompanying it true home made thick cut, the gravy and veg were just perfect. What sealed the deal for a return though was the bread and butter pudding.... WOW honestly if i could have managed it id have had seconds! Initially when it came out i was doubtfull as its a classic dessert but wasnt submerged in a bowl of custard which lets face it we expect a classic dessert to be, it was with a pouring homemade custard.. however once i had tasted it i was in heaven credit to the baker/chef the consistency was perfect throughout every mouthfull. Thanks for a enjoyable evening, we'll be back.

First time at this, "Tardis" like pub stroke restaurant, service of a very high standard, catered for a big birthday party and coped admirably. Best tomato soup i've tasted, blade of beef fell apart with rich gravy, so good. Thankyou.

What a fantastic evening we had at the Pattern Makers in Duffield. This was my birthday celebration and it certainly did not disappoint. The food was lovely, great wine and attentive staff. The whole atmosphere was super, and had a great chat with Silvio about Bellagio !! Will we return....oh yes we most certainly will. Thank you for a great evening.

We had looked forward to going here for dinner after discovering the Pattenmakers a couple of weeks ago whilst out walking. We had looked at the menu then and overa lovely cup of coffee we decided to book for my birthday . The place didn’t disappoint in ANY way. The service is superb, the food was gorgeous and the decor , whilst retaining the original features , is really tasteful. The bar is beautifully presented and well stocked and the place had a lovely relaxed atmosphere . Can’t recommend it enough and looking to return very soon . A memorable evening thank you.

We enjoyed a very good evening here. A good range of choices on the menu and we very much enjoyed the food and wine we chose. Tables nicely spaced out and comfortable seating. Excellent service. All in all a very enjoyable evening.

The best Sunday Lunch we have had in a long time. Good food, good service and good ambience. We thought the pricing very fair too. Absolutley no complaints. We have also enjoyed three evening meals here, including Valentines Night this year and our experience was quite the opposite of the negative review posted for that evening. We will return and recommend this restaurant to others.

Heard good things so went on a recommendation. Really nice decor, waitors were friendly enough even if it felt rather forced. Food felt less enticing than expected, it was trying hard but I came away feeling hungry as nothing quite hit the spot. It's worth a try, it was clear some people there came regularly and seemed hugely happy there & staff were making an effort to feel special which was nice to see. It just wasn't quite for us.

First visit to the Pattenmakers and we were pleasantly impressed. Situated off the main road through Duffield this hidden gem is well worth a visit. It has been tastefully upgraded with a mix of modern and original features. The menu is classic with a twist. We sat in the bar area firstly for drinks while we waited for our table to be ready. Our table in the restaurant had very comfy seats and was luxuriously decorated. We opted for the Pattenburger, Lamb Shank, Chicken stuffed with Brie and Stuffed Pepper. The food was beautifully presented and so tasty. Desserts we chose Lemon Cheesecake and Bread and Butter Pudding. Huge portions worth £7.50 each all home made. The staff were very attentive throughout, polite and knowledgeable. We will definitely be back again soon. Downside the parking is limited with only 3 spaces and parking on the road has yellow lines so you would need to sort alternate parking. We were lucky as it was unusually quiet for a Saturday. Please visit you won’t be disappointed.

Our drinks order was taken, a bottle of wine and a Peroni. The peroni never arrived but did make an appearance on the bill. No explanation or apology was offered. My fish and chips was not good at best. The chips are slabs of potato, when i swallowed a section of one it scratched my throat that then made swallowing for the rest of the meal and evening quite painful. Something I have never experienced before and am in no rush to repeat. The mushy peas were unpleasant and got left after the first taste. The fish was good but the batter was soft thick and stodgy. The dining experience was poor and quite pricey, I visit London regularly and pay less for better quality and service. I won't be back.

Great location and amazing food! We went on a Wednesday and were completely taken care of. They overheard we had two people with birthdays with us and they really spoilt us! Would definitely return.

Lovely decor and service, disappointed with the food pub grub and overpriced, we won't be rushing back. Couldn't understand British cuisine with a french twist, didn't see anything on the menu that resembled that.

Very friendly great choice of drinks in a new very stylish surrounding but the best is the food absolutely 5 star. The choice is absolutely spot on with great service, Save room for the sweets Poached Rum Pineapple and Pistachios is to die for.

Wow ! Wow ! Wow! I’d read about this place and the extensive refurbishment it had been through so thought we’d give it a try . We were not disappointed on any level . From walking in this place we knew it was special. The bar has an extensive selection of drinks , the menu has something for everyone, the decor is second to none, decent music , tvs for the sport enthusiasts among you . The service from Slyvan was absolutely amazing as was the food . A must on your list . You will not be disappointed.

We attended a suprise 70th birthday party on 17/02/2024 . ther was around 30 people attending and the food was pre ordered . Everyone had ordered a different starter and main . After we had all sat down the food came and all the starters were served within 5 minutes. When the mains came they again were all served within 5/10 minutes . All the food came hot and beautifully presented . The sweets were ordered at table and again came in a short time and were really good . Thank you to all the staff involved for a fantastic evening .

So, it's Valentine's day evening... there's not a single piece of evidence that it is...not a candle on tables...not a flower....no background music...nothing! We were shown to the darkest corner table in the restaurant where you couldn't even see your food properly! Not a good start, I'm afraid. We were asked what we wanted to drink as soon as we had sat down. Then we were given menus. My husband is coeliac and this was indicated on the booking. There was very little choice of Gluten Free dishes and yet there were many things on the menu that we know are naturally gluten free and that could be easily GF adaptable. There was no effort, not even, it seems, to get GF bread. It took an age for our orders to be taken. An hour later our chorizo came... A good half an hour later, if not longer, our mains came. They looked nice and tasted nice though why the blade of beef was shredded I do not know and the portion size was small. Then the deserts...we asked the waitress about which items were GF and she didn't have a clue. She went to ask the chef and we were told that the only GF desert was pineapple soaked in rum syrup with a pistachio crumb. I ordered the sticky toffee pudding. Deserts arrived...3 pieces if pineapple on a plate...no crumb, no a dollop of ice-cream, nothing...no effort and no explanation! My sticky toffee pudding had been microwaved to death, the accompanying ice-cream was tasteless and it was altogether lack lustre...in fact, perhaps the worst example of that desert that I've ever eaten. Drinks were distinctly over priced...the drinks waiter couldn't tell us which ciders were available and asked my husband to come to the bar to check!!! Service was poor...serving staff couldn't tell you about the allergens in dishes and shrugged their shoulders in embarrassment...the menu had several spelling mistakes...no one asked us how we found any of the courses...no one asked if we'd like more drinks...my husband had to ask for another drink. Yes, there was the Italian Maître D who flitted about and made Italian asides but I couldn't see why as this clearly isn't an Italian restaurant and the menu is not Italian. We asked for our bill and it came with two token heart shaped chocolates which were clearly out of date and I spat mine out, it tasted so bad. It was covered in white and was vile. So much for the "romantic Valentine's meal" that we were promised on arrival..... We had looked forward to visiting this place for so long...all the blurb about the place promised great things... I really don't think we will ever return.

Friendly welcome with tasty food. Our dog was made welcome in what is called the smoke room. We had an Italian desert wine instead of desert. It was excellent. Will definitely be going again.

Excellent food and service at this hidden gem restaurant in the old part of the village of Duffield. A large and varied selection of fresh foods and wines to serve all tastes. Attentive and friendly staff made our dining experience a real pleasure. Lovely function room and dining areas. Well worth a visit and highly recommended.

We had a wonderful meal at the Pattern Makers for my mum’s birthday party. The food and service were excellent especially as the party was for 50 people. Everything was extremely well organised, the food was perfect and the staff were very attentive. I would highly recommend.

Visited the Patternmakers for the fist time on Saturday and it most definitely will not be our last. The renovation has been tastefully carried out to a high standard, keeping a traditional bar area but adding a modern tastful restaurant. The food was excellent, cooked and presented to a high standard with lovely fresh ingredients. Service was also very good with friendly and efficient staff. A really great little restaurant and an asset to Duffield, well worth a visit. The bar area is lovely to have a drink before going through for your meal. Thanks to all the staff for a very pleasant and enjoyable evening.

Dined here today as a guest at a birthday lunch for around 50 people, and couldn’t have come away happier. The three-course meal we had was exceptional, especially considering the large number of meals being prepared for our party. The staff were friendly, attentive and always on-hand. The design and decor was spectacular. Really couldn’t fault a thing and looking forward to returning for an evening meal.

The owner had made a real effort with this place. Along with all the staff he makes everyone welcome and they all make the visit special. The food was perfect.

What a disappointment, to say the least. We went for a night out with the intention of eating at the Patten makers arms tonight. A cold dismal January night with few people around, it was almost warmer outside than inside the pub, the manager even had a coat on, and the welcome was far from warm. After purchasing drinks at the bar, we wanted to look at the facilities and peruse a menu. On entering a dining area, we were rudely gestured to go back into the bar by the rude and ignorant 'manager??', I use the term loosely. He did not have the presence of mind or curtesy to ask if we intended to eat or to ask politely for us to return to the bar with our previously purchased drinks. He then moaned that other customers were sitting on stools at the bar, where he had obviously positioned them, then pushed between them to place used glasses close to the glass washer. Talking to other customers, he is known as Basil. A very endering nick name with close association to Fawlty Towers, and yes, he really was that bad. With his extremely poor customer services and attitude, he managed to loose the sale of meals and further drinks for 2 people tonight, plus any future business from ourselves and any that head our advice to go elsewhere. After finishing our drinks, we went to the Elephant and Peackock to enjoy a lovely meal in warm and welcoming environment.

This restaurant is fantastic, the food is beautifully presented, and the taste is wonderful. I had a turkey lunch today, the best I have ever had, l normally find turkey very dry, believe me this wasn't. I have actually booked again for next week and l can't wait. Held my birthday party there and got great service and help in organising the party. We had the upstairs room with a very tasty mixed hot and cold buffet with good portions.

We had a ninetieth birthday celebration at Patternmakers Arms, what an amazing place! Silvio and team could not do enough for us, the food was supreme and the red wine was extraordinary , the service was so attentive, professionalism at its best! Thank you Silvio, for making my mum so happy on the night. I strongly recommend this restaurant....you will not be disappointed.

First visit to The Pattenmakers Arms, Duffield, but certainly won’t be my last. The warm welcome, the food, the surroundings, (the loos), everything was impressive. Disappointingly it was rather quiet, so the ambience was a little flat, though perhaps on Thursday lunchtime that’s the norm. The place deserves to be booked up well in advance, but maybe I’m spoiling my chance of dining in the future. Can’t believe I’d not heard of it reopening before now. Highly recommend. A word of warning, it has very little on site parking so be prepared to park a little way away.

Visited here with high expectations. The place is stunning, beautifully renovated. Unfortunately the service was dreadful, waited over 5 mins at the bar (the couple before us left moaning about the lack of service) & what seemed to be the manager looked over at us & kept rearranging menus, no acknowledgement at all. Eventually a very bland girl came behind the bar & said "yes"... not hello, sorry for the wait or what can I get you? No smile, goodness knows what someones expectations were upon hiring? My husband was driving so he ordered a soft drink & I had a large wine... £14!!! I wasn't at the bar to hear that, had I been I would of walked out then. To be charged that for basically a glass of wine & for the awful service... disgusting. Will not be returning. The second star was for the decor.

What a fantastic place. The service was excellent and the food was amazing. Every course was outstanding. Don’t take the front of the pub at face value. As soon as you walk in the beautifully tiled floor in the bar area shines bright and the experience begins. Give it a try and treat yourselves.

We tried the Pattenmakers Arms and were really impressed. The food was great, some lovely combinations. I had the special of the scallops with chorizo to start and the stone bass. My fiancé had the whipped goats cheese and a steak. We had the side of beetroot and feta. All great. The staff were friendly and the dining area was light and airy. Really enjoyed our evening.

Incredible food (we had the Sunday beef menu) , great service, and was brilliant with our little girl that had just woken up from a nap and wasn’t in the best of moods 🙄 but from the second we walked in made a fuss of her making her a cocktail (😉) and some colouring which changed her mood instantly and made our evening run a lot smoother 😂, it’s the little things that make a huge difference.

We had a lovely dinner at Pattenmakers. Every single dish, from starters to desserts, has been absolutely amazing. Fresh ingredients, well balanced and designed tastes, and all cooked to perfection. We couldn’t be happier. Our fav was the Pan fried halibut with caviar and lobster bisque, but honestly everything else was just as wonderful. Service was very good too - very attentive and friendly. :) The price might not be the cheapest but for the quality and standard it has, it’s well worth it in our opinion. We will definitely come back again! Highly recommended.

Lovely new fresh feel to the place, lovely restaurant area with friendly staff, only been open a month or so when we went so still ironing out a few things and finding there flow. But really nice food. (Look out for the VAT)

I honestly cannot recommend this place highly enough and really hope that it gets the local support and patronage it deserves. The whole place looks fantastic and has been refurbished to such a high standard. Their ethos of locally sourcing ingredients should be commended and the resulting menu and food are truly delicious and, in my opinion, a cut above anywhere else locally. The Manager and his team are so friendly and helpful too. A touch of class worth paying for in Duffield.

Okay place to call in for a drink. Decor rather tastless however and doesn't create the right kind of atmosphere for the 'tucked away' village pub that the Patten is. Rude bar manager with no people skills.

Vibrant, Beautiful atmosphere. Great surprise to see such a fantastic transformation, clearly a lot of money has been spent on creating such a fabulous place. Thank you for great service and delicious food

Very nice fresh food, lovely atmosphere and all staff very welcoming. Nice to be able to walk to a great Pub and Restaurant.

Not a great deal of choice for beer, there own ale very average, first time I've walked out after having two sips of the beer.

Food here is amazing, one of the best Sunday lunches I’ve had in a long time. Only feedback I can give is it would be nice to have cauliflower cheese or red cabbage but otherwise perfect. Love the decor, will definitely be back again

Went here last night with a friend. Place has been done up to an amazing standard, especially the main dining area with doors to the small courtyard garden. Staff were friendly and helpful, food was great and not a bad price. Parking is an issue so you are better parking on the main road at the top or in the town and walking as it’s only one street back. We’ll worth a visit.
