The Mundy Arms in Amber Valley

We have been coming to the Mundy arms for years since moving to the Derby area and We are all gutted to hear it's closing, especially since its the best we've know it in all the years we've been coming. The current staff are head and shoulders the best they've ever been. Service is exceptional, genuine friendly staff who aren't putting on faces, they are happy to be there and that is something that any pub would kill to have. We wish them all the best in the future. The only disappointing things is that we found out the pub was closing via email and Facebook the Friday 12th before they shut on the Sunday 14th. This seems very short notice for all involved. Thank you for everything Mundy Arms!

Absolutely brilliant! We stumbled over this place and glad to find it be the best chef and brewer we have been in so far! Heidi looked after us so well, she was friendly and efficient but when we asked about the no leaf salad, the Chef Jo came out of the kitchen and talked us through the menu and was so knowledgeable and friendly! Not only that, the food was the best prepared we have had yet in any chef and brewer! She clearly knows what she’s doing in the kitchen and it shines through. I’d love to have a meal prepared by her again soon! All this and they are dog friendly! Keep it up.

We visited for Xmas day! Fantastic! Lovely pub with decor and very clean. Greeted at the door. Fantastic staff and service! The food... wow! Large portions.. had to leave some food but tasted absolutely fantastic! Also dog friendly! Would highly recommend!

We were staying in the local area over Christmas and booked our Christmas meal at the Munday Arms. It was lovely, they weren't tight with the food either. The staff were very nice and everything relaxed and organised. An excellent choice to visit. Its dog friendly and we were going to take the dogs in but they would have been in the way sat by the bar, however they were perfectly safe in the car park while we ate. Overall excellent!

We recently had to attend our fifth funeral wake at the Mundy Arms. These Wakes are really good with great food and service. The pub is close to the crematorium and therefore very convenient for these occasions.

Special thanks to Anders and chefs Craig and Jo who made sure we had a perfect evening, lovely atmosphere and was allocated a table in front of the fire, so cosy and relaxing, food was superb, we had the terrine to start then steak and lasagne, steak was cooked perfectly and lasagne probably the best we’ve had. Desserts and lovely hot latte rounded off the evening, we will definitely be returning to sample some more delicious food.

Cosy & warm, dog friendly pub. With ‘worth the money’ food. Excellent service from Heidi who was very pleasant. Good refueling spot for a wet walk in dovedale.

Megan was great. Great fun, very accommodating, and perfect balance between leaving us to have a good time at the table and ensuring we had all we needed. Thank you. Food was fab so credit to Craig the chef for that. I had the sea bass and scallops with risotto. Very nice indeed. And nice to see the Christmas tree and decorations up bringing a nice festive spirit to an end of November Thursday evening. Great stuff. Can highly recommend. We’ll be back.

As always my experience with the Mundy Arms was impeccable. The new Christmas menu is absolutely delicious and huge thank you to Meg, Heidi and Craig for making our visit memorable. The fireplace was so relaxing and really highlighted the Christmassy vibes :)

I booked a finger buffet for 20 people for after a funeral. The room was excellent and the buffet selection and quantity provided was very good. Melisija was very friendly and helpful. Thank you to the Chef Ethan too.

Myself and my husband went for a meal earlier today. I have say the food was amazing!!! The service spot on and all the staff were so attentive and friendly!! Will be back soon!!!

We were looking for a child friendly place for a quick bite to eat before heading on to Alton Towers. We came in for 12 o’clock so it was quiet but soon started filling up. Service was great, food was superb and served in good time. Very happy to recommend.

Visited this evening and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The food was excellent and the service from Heidi and Mel was brilliant! We will definitely come again. Thank you!

Food was served to two of our table only warm instead of piping hot. Some veg was not cooked properly so not really eatable. The room was not very warm for the time of year.

The ale is always decent and the food is great, all the staff are amazing, helpful and friendly no wonder we keep returning

Staff were lovely, Megan needs a pay rise! Bit of a put off that its card only, cash is still legal tender and just because the area is up market doesn't mean people won't want to use cash. But it was explained and accommodated for by Megan and I will definitely be visiting again, menu had a good selection and the atmosphere was very tranquil. Shame its on a main road other wise I could see it being a top location for that special family day out. Can't recommend enough

Nice little pub, good atmosphere

I would like to thank Anders and his team, for providing us with an excellent buffet for the funeral of my Uncle. We had a mixture of sandwiches and wraps, complimented with very tasty pork pie, sausage rolls, salad, coleslaw, halloumi and chips. All very fresh and tasty. Anders also provided us with foil and bags to take home any leftovers. I would recommend the Mundy Arms, and it's also so convenient from the Crematorium.

Quite place for a chilled beer and good food

Food was very good, that's where it ends, the barstaff (young lady) was a bit rude!!

We went as a party of 8 and really enjoyed the time as a family. For some reason the pub wasn't very busy at all(only 6 people) which was very surprising. Would recommend this place.

The ribs on sunday menu are simply the best I've had in Derby, I'll definitely be back to eat again.

We attended a funeral wake. When the food was bought out, there was a good selection, but all of the sandwiches were slathered in mayonnaise except for the cheese and pickle. Not every1 likes mayonnaise. I asked if they could provide a few without and was told they would ask, then came back with a "no we can't."

Brilliant food and service was over and above from Mel, she was so patient and helpful. A real credit to this lovely establishment.

We popped in here for a quick, simple meal to mark the birthday of our son. The signature burgers were advertised as being topped by slow cooked beef and gravy, mature Irish cheddar in a sesame seed bun. In reality the burgers were served in buns - the beef burgers were covered in a meagre amount of melted cheese and topped with what looked like dog food in rich gravy spooned over them.. The burgers were served with a handful of deep fried frozen chips and a couple of onion rings - .. I'm not sure how that meal would come to 2100 calories as noted on the menu.. For two main courses a starter, an extra portion of chips and a couple of drinks - I thought £56 was quite expensive considering the portion sizes. The pub itself is fairly typical of a chain type pub serving food - the food isn't bad, but nothing to write home about either.. The young chap that served us was very pleasant and tried hard to please - I think he was new to the job as he was receiving some training from the other person serving.

So had great hopes for this place after hearing that there had been great improvements in the service and food quality (had a awful experience about a year ago) Sadly the food quality and value for money were deficient A sharing platter for starters, £15, sparse content not worth the price. I had a sirloin steak medium rare, it hadn't been trimmed loads of sinews and hard fat and I was literally sawing the meat to cut it. Had about 10 chips with it, absolutely atrocious (fortunately I was not charged for it). A small saving grace was that my partner's gammon was acceptable although the pineapple had seen better days. The server was good attentive and very apologetic and was a good ambassador. Overall grossly disappointing poor value for money. A huge rethink is needed. Won't be going again and will not be recommending to anyone.

We visited the Mundy Arms after meeting with family at Markeaton Park for a catch up. My dad had his dog and I had my young toddler with me. The pub is warm and welcoming with a friendly team. We visited on Easter Sunday so they were only serving their Easter Sunday menu. For a chef and brewer, I’ve never seen this before (just a new one for me as I’m more acquainted with the other brands within Greene King). My toddler shared some of my meal as he’s not got quite the appetite for a whole meal but we had another child on the table who ordered from the kids menu. All the food was served quickly and was lovely. However there were a couple of downsides to our visit. Despite bringing some books of our own, to entertain my son with, the kids menus were taken away and we were left with crayons but nothing to colour on. (Apparently there was colouring in on the kids menus). The other small issue we had was that the children’s dessert was served late (nearly all the adults had finished theirs). She was given an extra flake and the staff were very kind about it all but usually the kids desserts are served first to save them waiting? I’d still recommend here, though as I live in Worcestershire, it’ll be a while before I’m able to return!

Went mid week with a friend for tea. Lovely young lady waitress, who was kept very busy, but she was always very efficient and smiling. Food was good.

Unfortunately had a pretty bad experience here today. Been before recently for a Sunday roast and it’s been lovely. Staff were attentive but the food took over an hour to arrive, and the fish was undercooked when it did so. They did offer drinks on the house for slow service & wiped the food bill for us all. Would like to say the lady who served us (didn’t catch her name) was very nice and did a great job. So thank you.

10 of us went for an early Mother's Day lunch. Travelled from all over UK to meet up. 40 minutes to get our first drink, and 50 minutes to get our pre-ordered food. Do not usually give poor review but it was just a shambles. Main course was badly presented and cold (they did replace a steak 😋) and whilst we appreciated the lack of staff situation, there just seemed to be no organisation. Have to say though the sticky toffee pudding and custard was hot and tasted devine. Kudos to the young waitresses who managed well in a bad situation.

Visited on a Sunday. Fair few people there for the time of day which was just after lunch and before dinner time. Served promptly at the bar, good range of beers. Table was clean as was the establishment itself. I was pointed to the specials board which I took a photo of and was very tempting. Table service was excellent, nothing was to much trouble for the lad who served us. My partner wanted to change some of the veg and this was done without any fuss at all. He even came later on to put another log on the fire. We were lucky with where we sat and it was very cosy. There was four of us in the group and we all had food. Partners Dad and Stepmum had the Steak pie and Chicken pie which they both enjoyed and was very tasty. I had the Risotto with Sea Bass and prawns. The fish was and prawns were good, the risotto was as it should be but a little bland. My partner had the three meat dinner which she thought was fine but would have been happier if the meat had been cut from a joint rather than pre-sliced. Very reasonably priced and if I'm in the area again would definitely consider visiting the establishment again whether to eat or for a drink.

Good pub grub at a decent price!

Lunchtime menus are very good value. I can recommend the sea bass. This place is a little gem. The food is a cut above pub grub.

Comfortable pub dog friendly restaurant with cosy fire. Good service but only average food. Reasonably priced and good selection. Shared car park with motel accomodation at the rear.

Nice atmosphere and menu options. Prices were reasonable for the quality of food and the staff were attentive when we visited around 3pm on a Sunday.
