Groupon have mislead me , they have a picture of a afternoon tea, saying its a cream tea , the second time we had to book as tge first time they sed it was not available as run our of food, only now to find out it was a scone and a cup of tea Very misleading

Absolutely appalling service from what I can presume was a manger, who was discreetly on a laptop on a table and you couldn't even realise she worked there, until she shouted across the restaurant at my husband about taking our young girl to the toilets upstairs. The only other toilet was clearly labeled disabled, which out of common politeness should not be used by abled bodied guests. When raising the question with her about shouting and announcing it to the rest of the restaurant, she stated the flush didn't work although worked fine 2 minutes earlier when I had used it upon arrival. Absolutely disgusting behaviour and completely unnecessary. No apology was offered. Would not recommend visiting here. Such a shame and a disappointment as the young gentleman was friendly.

Utterly disappointing Afternoon Tea with my family, we used some Travelzoo vouchers i had purchased earlier in the year and now regretting buying them. Called up to ensure they could accommodate all 5 of us for Afternoon tea and proceeded to the venue, the manager had to validate our vouchers and was nothing short of rude or informative, didn't ask us anything about the afternoon teas and if we had any intolerances or infact veg/non-veg either. Sat there for almost an hour to them be presented with the afternoon tea but not advised what was what (other than knowing the 2 types of scones), the sandwiches were dry and flavorless, almost tasting watery, the scones were warm but stodgy and the desserts were stale and had a crust. Also worth mentioning that the place is dirty and in state of repair, broken seating with sticky tape patching, crumbling overhead lighting that looks like it has been in a fire and burnt/flaking, sticky and dirty tables. Not at all worth the price for afternoon tea or anything else in this establishment.

My daughter and I enjoyed what we can only describe as a perfect afternoon tea at the restaurant yesterday, 28th May. We were offered a choice of vegetarian or non-vegetarian sandwich options by the very professional and attentive male server. The sandwiches were freshly made and came with four different fillings. The bread was soft and fresh and the fillings appetising and very tasty. There were two different scones each - a plain or raisin and a generous amount of butter and clotted cream. We each had an individual pot of jam too. The cakes - a selection of three each - were the perfect size to round off the meal and bottomless, refillable tea made this the perfect end to a lovely afternoon together We were also able to take advantage of the special Summer Afternoon Tea offer and couldn’t fault the excellent value at £25 for two. Thank you!

My husband and I went to the Sutton café for afternoon tea yesterday. We had been given a git voucher by a family member several months ago but had not been able to use it earlier because of illness. We live in Chertsey and found that the café in Sutton is now the nearest one to us following the closure of the Windsor branch. It was quite a way for us to travel but we thought it was worth the visit. On arrival the staff were very welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Our lovely, attentive waitress made sure we had the teas we liked and offered refills for us and looked after us so well. At my request she arranged for the ham sandwiches to be made plain for me as I don't eat mayo/mustard and my husband happily polished off the rest of the other kinds. The bread was really fresh. The scones were lovely and warm and very tasty. We could not manage to eat the cakes as we were so full up and without us having to ask the male member of staff on duty offered to put the cakes in a box for us to take home. We really enjoyed our visit. Thank you so much.

I thought I had reviewed this place when we visited with a Buy a Gift voucher for tea for two about 3 years ago but obviously I didn’t! We enjoyed it that time but thought the Venus was looking a little tired. We visited again for the same offer yesterday and the cafe is still looking tired! But so is a lot of Sutton. Both visits had something else in common, the food and the service. The food was fresh tasty and well presented and they had no problems checking and dealing with our food intolerances. The staff who may have been the same people, I’m not sure, we’re friendly polite and efficient. I don’t really understand some of the poor reviews this place has received unless we have just been lucky but I doubt that. I was tempted to only give 4 stars due to tiredness of furnishings but the things that mattered to us good service and good food outweighed that.

Booked a tea for 2 with some extras. Was very excited and when we entered there was no seats downstairs so we were sat upstairs. We placed order only to be told a few minutes that the coffee that was ordered wasn’t in the offer?! They ran out of Berry tea and the apple tea. Who places the orders???? Cappuccino and hot chocolate just tasted like milk. If I could just rate our waiter I would give him 5 stars and felt sorry for him being a bit older and that he was up and down the stairs while the younger staff members stayed downstairs. Felt let down with the experience as we visit others and know how it should be done. Hope they can improve.

Don't get me wrong this place was busy and it makes me think have you ever been to a different Patisserie Valerie apart from Sutton? If not then you will be somewhat okay but for us the food was below standard a scone that doesn't even look like a scone that followed 10 mins after the pot of tea and then when it did come it was plain when we ordered fruit. The team member said no you ordered plain and had to show the receipt and then and only then was the order changed was changed. No apology no customer service skills at all. Just ignored you and had to stand at the counter to get some sort of response that we actually existed. WILL NOT BE RETURNING TO SUTTON

We visited Patisserie Valerie in the pedestrianised High Street in Sutton. There are a few pavement tables, and indoor seating upstairs as well as downstairs. All the staff are without exception eager to welcome and please, as evinced by the number of customers. The girl at the till, the two waiters, the girl who sprayed and cleaned our table all had friendly and genuinely warm smiles. The fare included for an Afternoon Tea voucher is quite different from the luscious cake selection in the window display but acceptable, with 3 little cakes each. Dainty finger sandwiches, 3 each, were all delicious and freshly made in fresh bread: chicken and pesto, ham and mustard, and that epitome of English teatime.....cucumber. We ate the smoked salmon canape first. A selection of Bonne Maman jam, Isigny butter and clotted cream to spread on 4 warm, fresh but doll's house sized scones. An enjoyable experience and the delightful staff warrant a return.

Had a lovely afternoon tea today with my mum. We were both really impressed. The sandwiches were nice and the smoked salmon canope. We had warm scone and a fruit scone with fresh clotted cream jam etc There were also 4 cakes each..i ate one and my mum couldnt fit anymore in so they put in a nice box for us and a nice bag to take home and eat later. We have been to the grand in Brighton and foodwise we preferred this. Obv different surroundings but you cant eat them and pay a lot extra so this was great vslue and the staff were very attentive too. One comment was the bathroom needed a bit of attention but the aftrnoon tea was fab

Booked for 6 people on Monday 15th August. We were served 3 large sandwiches and a smoked salmon and cream cheese crostini - all were fresh and delicious. Scones were delightfully warm and freshly made. Plus we had 3 types of dainty cakes. A selection of hot drinks were also included. Overall it was great value, nicely presented and the staff were friendly too making the whole experience far better then the expensive afternoon teas offered by high end hotels. Well done Patisserie Valerie, Sutton.

Probably one of the nicest afternoon teas I have had. The sandwiches were so fresh and had so much flavour and the selection of cakes and scones were perfect - plenty to fill you up but not too many that you felt you couldn't finish it. The staff were very helpful and friendly. I would definitely go back.

Food had been destroyed by heating which was a pity. When explaining politely that food was not edible the waitstaff became defensive. They did remove the cost from my bill but that is not the point. Staff need to be trained.

Went here for breakfast with a friend and the food was lovely. I had the vegan breakfast which was really good and my friend had eggs royale which she thoroughly enjoyed too. Would highly recommend. Service was friendly and quick too :)

Went for Afternoon Tea with a voucher. We entered and waited to be seated or served. No one came to help. After 5 minutes or so we had to go and find a staff member to help us. They seated us and asked for drinks order, which we gave. Maybe 10 mins later they came back to tell us they didn't accept the voucher any longer, despite it being in date. We said we'd think about what to do and the waitress said she'd come back in a few minutes. We waited 10 minutes, no one came back, even though at one point I caught her eye and signalled we were ready and she indicated she'd be over shortly. Another staff member walked past and asked if we were ready to order, we said yes, but he walked off and still no one came. Whilst there I saw one table return their food and another table order drinks and desserts - their drinks came a long time after their dessert and they'd had to chase them up. Eventually we decided to leave, we'd been there half an hour and ordered nothing... we were at the back of the cafe, so we walked the entire length of the shop, past some staff members, and no one asked us if there was a problem or tried to stop us. A complete waste of time.

Disappointed as went in just after main lunch rush and all tables were not cleared, I sat at a table and ended up clearing it myself and had to ask for service after 15 minutes as the two waitresses were run off their feet, I nearly left but had spent 20 mins of my lunch break getting there and waiting already. Ordered and the food arrived in an OK time, had the all day breakfast which for almost £9 was disappointing, burnt back on hard poached eggs, such a shame. Need more staff at lunch time.

The afternoon tea deal advertised a couple of months ago was a brilliant deal and the staff were lovely. One of the best places for a lovely tea in Sutton.

We went here as a treat for my granddaughter it’s her birthday next week. We sat inside where it was very quiet after about 15mins we asked a waitress if she could take our order. No one had actually come to us. We have now waited another 29 mins no order. My daughter in law then asked if our order was being filled at the counter they says yes. When we looked over there was clearly no one working on our order. We then gathered all our stuff and just walked past them when asked if they had done our order the reply was “ we haven’t had a ticket” 35 minutes we had waited with no acknowledgement from staff. They didn’t even try to stop us leaving very poor. I have emailed the customer service and they replied With the impression no one can be bothered. Definitely won’t go again

Went for tea and cake with my daughter at the beginning of September. Lovely cake and I was surprised at the good value. Ordered some cake to take away which was also very competitively priced. Upstairs was adequate decor, nothing special. Nice to have real tea. Service was very friendly and we were comfortable not to be rushed.

Popped in for brunch a couple of days ago. Food wasn't bad, but a bit rushed - toast arrived without butter, bacon greasy and poached eggs were hard. Not a huge inconvenience, but little niggles that we're just a bit off-putting.

Dropped in one afternoon for tea on our last day visiting Sutton. They had a nice selection of cakes and pastries, prices not cheap but quality was good. We seemed to have arrived while one of the two servers was on break, so it was a bit slow getting our stuff. That was mostly because after we sat down, we had to wait around for a menu that told us what the baked selections were -- we don't just order by how something looks, we want to know what's IN it and that isn't always self-evident. Same for counter service, if people don't know what they're looking at how are they supposed to know what to order? That's my only negative comment about the place.

We often have a coffee here which is nice and have eaten about 4 times BUT one occasion I asked for scrambled egg on toast and it came with salmon. I asked them to change it as I'm vegetarian not pescetarian. The plate was taken to the front of the shop and bought back within 2mins. The salmon had just been taken off the plate. The food lift was opposite us so I knew it had not been sent back and I could see the egg had been moved over...and could smell it. I had to wait a further 15mins for a replacement. If I had a fish allergie this is dangerous.

Great place for a coffee, snack or meal. The food and drinks are always fresh and good taste however service can be slow and costs can be on the high side. A popular place and good for a treat.

I bought Afternoon Tea here as part of a Groupon deal for a Mother's Day gift, we didn't have to book a table as there was plenty of space. The service here is really good, I would definitely recommend the Afternoon Tea for Two here as you get unlimited tea and the amount of food you get is unbelievable! It consisted of sandwiches, scones and cakes; all of which were delicious. I've never visited a Patisserie Valerie before, but this was a lovely introduction and i'll be sure to revisit for more afternoon tea delights!

A group of friends went out for a late lunch. The place offer a good less that £10 winter menu offer which is more than enough for one or two person sharing.

Afternoon teas are back and we have had a few over the past 18 months. This was our first experience of Valerie Patisserie outside of ordering there cakes, which are fantastic. We even ordered our birthday cakes from them! On the back of that we had high hopes for our afternoon tea for two that we had brought for us from Groupon for xmas. How very disappointed we were.

We had the 'festive high tea' here. Food was fine. The staff were awful. They gave us places that were still wet from the dishwasher. Once we had the main course, we had to keep asking them for out pot of tea. The place closes at 7 pm, at pm they opened the front doors which must be indirect line with the North Pole, whilst we and several others , we're trying to finish our food / drinks. No explanation was given what the were up to (probably closing early as no customers? ). When we left, we were definitely given the impression that a tip was expected. We didn't. This place is expensive enough, it makes high tea at The Ritz look cheap, and really great value for money.

Service was very slow, no staff working upstairs, waited a long time for the waitress just to ask for the bill. Had to go downstairs and ask the manager who rudely said “yea yea” and still no waiter/tress to ask for the bill.

Having got a Groupon deal for my fathers birthday and wanted to use this today (Saturday) to celebrate his special day. We were extremely disappointed to be told that we could not use this at the weekend. This was not in the small print and after asking the manager if she could bend the rules we were told no.!!! So left !!! Not impressed as used to come here loads and they should have it put in the small print

I went with my boyfriend for a breakfast. We enjoyed it but portions are quite small. We request the English breakfast. Beans were in a very small container. The egg portion was tinny as well.

I arrived an hour before my reservation to inform the staff that my friend joining me for the tea did not like butter. I also asked if we could have alternative fillings in the sandwiches. Both requests were not an issue.

HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED - paid £8.00 for a latte and a slice of cake that I waited 1/2 hr for yet the cake still didn't arrive had to go to the till where the money was promptly taken like a viper as was rather fed up watching others get their order. NO apologies, not even an offer of refund when asked by the I assume the manager . Only decent chap was the older waiter the rest MONEY FOR OLD ROPE ...... NEVER AGAIN

Ground floor waitress had a rude demeanour and throws food on the table. She couldn't be bothered to pick up the food from the kitchen so it went cold and when I queried this with the first floor waitress she went and sorted it all out. Why do these premium brand restaurants recruit rude Eastern European waitresses but not bother to train them up to deliver good customer services? The first floor waitress is also Eastern European but she was excellent and saved PV's reputation. The place was empty on a Saturday lunch time - this is evidence that all is not well. Train or fire rude staff and increase your turnover!

We been to other outlets of Valerie and they been good but the service very poor here. The tea is the best in the area but need more milk. The cakes are very nice but a little overpricedThe tables are on the small size and staff need some training

We have been wanting to try this place for a while and visited today. The service was slow, the tables are too small and the food was mediocre - I had a scone which was warm but lacked enough fruit to make it anything special and my cake was 'sara lee' with a decoration on top! My husband had a hot main course and hot dessert which they bought up together so his dessert ended up being eaten cold. I would not recommend and wish I had gone elsewhere!

Went here very recently and found it was very sub standard with a poor meal and bad service. Ordered two teas which took more than 20 minutes to arrive and our food took more than half an hour and we had to chase the waiter for it. We had a salad and a sandwich so no cooking involved. My bacon, tomato and lettuce club sandwich was awful. It had the thinnest bread and no real taste at all and must have been the smallest club sandwich I have ever eaten. I was never asked if my meal was okay and I didn't mention it but maybe I should have done. My friend's salad was just about okay she said. The couple on the next table waited so long for their meal that the waiter brought their bill thinking that they had already been served and eaten! The place is really understaffed. There were only two staff (both men in their fifties). This is not enough. They do nice cakes and coffee but fail miserably on most other things. I won't go back for a meal or a sandwich but probably will have a cake.

Thought we'd try breakfast at the Sutton branch today, one of the meals was fine although when the cooked breakfast arrived it was cold and poached eggs were hard despite requesting runny.Meal returned with apologies initially received, meal was returned within a couple of minutes with new eggs although the rest was still cold. Yet again returned and advised that I no longer wanted to eat. Just a couple of minutes later a meal arrived which was rejected as I had lost my appetite due to the multiple feu pars.Upon settling the bill I was expected to pay for both meals, once I explained that I had not accepted or eaten the bill was amended without no form of apology what so ever.Feel free to take your own chnace if dining there. Greatly disappointed

My wife and I ate here recently after about a year of staying away. We originally first ate here in October 2015, and the food and service were both great. However, only a few months later and both the service and food had dramatically deteriorated. We thought we would give it another try. The service was still awful. We were seen to a table, (most empty tables were dirty). The waiter disappeared and the waitress was cleaning cutlery and we were left sitting there. I had to ask the waiter to take our order. The food came quickly. We had scrambled egg, which was nice but whatever they put in it, e.g. cream, was a little over powering. The crispy bacon was nice and well cooked. Our tea took ages to arrive and actually came out after our food! I think it will be over a year before we even think of trying again, if we ever return.

Three of us called in. A couple of us had pastries/ cakes and one had the breakfast. The pastry was excellent and the cake was nice, although it could have been fresher. Sadly the breakfast order was not correct but the food was ok. It was all pleasant enough but I think the feeling was that it's rather overpriced for what you get.

Lovely place for a spot of lunch. Friendly staff, great food and amazing tea and cakes! Bright and airy with nice decor. We love to go for a lunchtime treat or afternoon tea.

I've never written a bad review for anything, however patisserie valerie in Sutton just takes the biscuit. I've visited the chain in Kingston and they are always so helpful and never try to rip people off. The sutton branch however I have visited with my mother on many occasions over the past three years and the service just gets worse, last time I took my mother on her birthday we had waited for over 50 mins for scrambled egg on toast which tasted like rubber... Anyway, that was months ago and today I walked past and figured the coffee was nice so I'll purchase a cappuccino to take away...I was handed this and happy but thought walking out of the door, this feels a wee bit light for a large. Opened the lid had half a cappuccino, politely went back and showed the lady behind the counter to which I apologised for any inconvenience and asked if she wouldn't mind toppling it up a bit more. Well the lady simply replied, 'it's because it's a large cup.. ' and she begrudgingly topped it up a bit. I just left and thought never again, I have patience but this is nuts. Let me ask, when your customers come in to the establishment to dine, do they purchase a large coffee only to be given a half full cup because it's a large mug...I didn't think so. I will add this picture as I'm sitting here waiting for the coffee to cool, this is their idea of a top up after giving a friendly customer half a £2.30 coffee.

Visited for afternoon tea. 2 Scones each and miniature cakes served with finger sandwiches and tea. Scones and cakes tasty although bit sickly after a while! Sandwiches also tasty although not always the freshest. Good filling choices such as pesto chicken, ham & mustard, smoked salmon but did feel the one containing just cucumber was a bit of a letdown! Staff very friendly. Have bought several birthday cakes for family from here and they are always beautiful and everyone comments how delicious they are (although very rich!)

At the entrance we were greeted by a young lady who invited us to choose a seat . Upon finding a suitably comfortable seat we had a look over the menu and decided upon a strawberry milkshake each ... And then Mr Surly , unwelcoming waiter came to take our order " can only do chocolate milkshake " was the stern reply .. Ok .. We went with that, deciding that at £3.35 each and from the menu listing them as ice cream milkshakes thought that they would be nice . What we had was an IKEA type 50p glass filled with chocolate milk. There had been an attempt to " pretty it up " by squirting ice cream chocolate covering sauce on the inside of the glass ....but only 1 had a maltezer size piece of ice cream , no cream on top , nothing to make it look at all special . A huge disappointment. And a total rip off money wise ...Needless to say we gave the box of cakes a miss !

A great afternoon tea, didn't expect any less, other members of the group had a club sandwich which was lovely and apparently the eggs benedict were delightful. The service was great and the waiting staff really friendly.

This is a delightful cafe in a good location in sutton. I have only ever had hot drinks and cakes here, never a meal so my review is based on that.For the last 3 times I have been, there have never been any fresh cream chocolate eclairs and the last 2 times no cupcakes either. I wonder if the cakes aren't baked on a daily basis - the last two didn't seem particularly fresh. I have been both in morning and afternoon, so I doubt they ran out.I like their quaint tea pots with the strain on the tea leaves.When it is open (last 3 times it hasn't been), the upstairs is a great spot for people watching on the high street!

We had a half hour to spare and were in need of refreshment. Had never tried this before but had heard good reports. Ambiance, service and food was excellent. waitress was pleasant and helpful. it was half term so make allowances for that - we felt the service although good, was slow, but they were busy. Moral of the story really, is to tell the waitress if you're short of time!! Got to say the food was scrummy and the coffee excellent

I went here for lunch service was slow the food took 45 minutes to calm the waiter did not apologise is very overpriced and I cannot cope with the demand in Sutton

The cakes are lovely and service... its okay. But the prices are absolutely ridiculous! I'd rather go to asda and get a cake for the price. Don't be coming again due to price but if I was loaded I'd be in there all the time!

Top quality food, incredibly attentive staff and the most sumptuous cakes. I can't recommend this place enough!! Perfect for a quick coffee and cake break or a sit down breakfast / lunch / dinner.

There is no doubt you will probably get the best cakes in this place in Sutton, but you can wait for up to 40 min to get them! Not every time, but the service is not great. The cakes are huge so I normally share one with a friend. They are expensive but as they are so big, one for 2 people is just about right. We have also ordered birthday cakes in the past and they were divine! Obviously there are some staffing issues but the food is great.

We visited a few weeks ago. Although there was a few staff around, no tables were clear. We had an Amazon voucher for mince pies and hot drinks for 2. We were charged. £5 excess which refused to pay. Very overpriced.

I recently visited Patisserie Valerie Sutton to have a cup of coffee and a slice of cake with my friends. When we entered we asked to be directed to our seats and no one actually pay attention on us. After waiting and waiting we decided just to go and sit. It took long time until we have been served. The stuff was very unfriendly and rude. Not to mention the fact that most of the tables were dirty and sticky and the restroom was not only dirty and smelly but no soap, no toilet paper, etc. Apparently, the manager Jose does not know how to do his job and turned the coffee shop into a horrible place. I will definitely not bother to visit it again.

Patisserie Valerie is an overpriced chain of coffee shops with slices of cake to die for. I ordered food, a expensive goat's cheese and salad mixture that I nearly finished within 2 minutes.Really, what the clientele seem to want is a quiet spot out of the way of the bustle of Sutton and Patisserie Valerie achieves this purpose without problems. There is free wifi, the toilets are clean and the seating is extremely comfortable. Unlike other coffee chains, there is no bottomless coffee on the menu, which again would please clientele who don't wish to see students hanging around all day.Orders can take a long time to arrive and the staff are of variable quality. One waitress rushed for my every wish but her replacement could barely be bothered!

Slow service and unfriendly staff. It seems the manager and staff there will behave differently depending on the "look and feel" of the customers. Should be Avoid.

We ate here for breakfast a few weeks ago and I had streaky crispy bacon and scrambled eggs, and it was really well cooked, tasty and served by friendly competent staff. However, we went back recently. We joined my parents who had just eaten, therefore I thought I'd make it clear to the waiter we wanted to order. Anyway, he was friendly but not very good at his job. He completely forgot several times and I had to get up and find a waiter and ask them to take our order. I ordered what I had before and when it finally arrived, the scrambled eggs didn't taste as nice as last time and I didn't get streaky crispy bacon just normal bacon. I asked if I could have what I ordered. The waiter took the bacon away and brought back exactly the same bacon back, just cooked for a little bit longer. Hope they sort themselves out and get their standards back to where they were, if not we will not continue to eat here.

My husband & myself visit here quite a lot. The food is lovely but the service is not great and today was the last straw ! I was on my own,took a seat right by the counter and it took ages for anyone to take my order. They were about half full and continued serving other customers. I waited ages only to be asked by the manager if I wanted anything. I told him I was tired of waiting for my tea & croissant and told him the service here is very slow most of the time. There are plenty of other cafes now in Sutton and I will be using them in future instead of receiving poor service in Patisserie Valerie........

I've been going there for a few months now and there is no other like this one.Always doing something extra to please you.Would go every day if lived closer:/

Been here a few times and the quality of food is good. Can be quite busy so sometimes takes a while to be seen or for food to arrive.

The food was cooked well and was really tasty. The waiter was very polite and attentive. Would recommend and would eat here again.

This is very classy, stylish coffee place and eaterie and a real credit to the area. The lovely, tasty savoury snacks and the delicious, positively scrumptious gateaux will make you want to keep returning (as I do!).

I came here with my girlfriend for breakfast and I can honestly say it was the worst breakfast I have ever had. How you can go this badly wrong with a full english breakfast is beyond me. The scrambled egg was flakey and everything else was instantly forgettable. Go to a local cafe for a cheaper and nicer breakfadt

Waiting staff very slow - dont always understand what you are asking for - one girl waitress is useless

We went here for a coffee and a nibble I got a BLT on toasted granary very nice hit the spot. The coffee was OK a bit cold could have been a bit hotter but all in all would come here again.
