Una visita obligada para todo aquel que le guste la buena comida y un ambiente agradable. La comida siempre es deliciosa. Comida vegetariana y vegana aunque genial para cualquiera.

I always thought it a bit odd that in a big meat eating town like Barrow that wholefood veggie shop/café like Pastures New has managed to survive for over 30 years. There are clearly more veggies than I ever thought in my hometown and the fairly recent revamp of their café can only help ensure their continued survival. They’ve gutted the place to create a tastefully decorated space complete with simple wooden tables and plenty of covers. We were in on a Fri lunchtime, and it was busy, plus they do a takeout service which also seems popular. It is also rare for me to like everything on the menu but this place managed it. All the main courses looked yummy so I was torn between the masala curry, retro veg crumble, paneer curry or the vegan mushroom hotpot (all at £6.25) until I noticed a huge slice of spinach and sundried tomato fritatta for £5.25 so that was a no brainer. I also went for a starter as the soup looked so tempting and ordered the butternut red pepper and lentil soup (£3.95)) which came in a smallish bowl – but with a big chunk of wholegrain bread – and was full of rich complementary flavours and clearly freshly made. I was in with my mother who went for the soup and sandwich deal (£7.65) and I’m told her stilton with plumb chutney sandwich was spot on. BTW…she liked the soup too. The warmed up fritatta with a melted veggie cheese topping was not only huge. but really tasty considering it was mainly spinach. The other thing that is great is that all main courses come with a choice of one of four house salads, and my crunchy bean based one was the perfect companion for the fritatta. We both had lattes (£2.95) which were nice and strong served gin long cups. I’m assuming it was Fairtrade coffee! Service was efficient rather than friendly but that suits me. The whole bill came to just over £20 which for the quantity and quality of the food on offer was a bargain. I’ve eaten veggie food all over the word and this is certainly in my all-time top 5. That good.

i have eaten here a number of times, and other veggie restaurants. the food is not vegan for the most part. a range of pukka teas, fair trade coffee and choclate.[not for the costa crowd] the vegeterian food is excellent, imaginative, substantial and low gi. as a committed meat eater it makes a pleasant change. i have eaten at cranks, zeffirellis, some glastonbury cafes but i would rate this as some of the best veggie food ever.

I have been here a few times, the first time I was pleasantly surprised, and have not been disappointed since. I am not a veggie, however, I find that a decent vegetarian restaurant will have more interesting options than your average “pub meal” or cafe. There was a great selection of salads and quiches, a few hot food options and a great selection of drinks. The staff there are incredibly friendly and welcoming. I decided to write this review as I was so surprised they only had a couple, their praises need to be sung!

Having read about a vegetarian cafe opening in Barrow in Furness I had to visit straight away. Situated on a street just off the town centre, Pastures Pantry is situated next to an existing Health food store. Clean, bright interior. Good menu with a varied selection. Breakfast menu looked particularly good. We were too late for that so opted for Chana Masala with choice of salad. I had butterbean partner had tabouleh both tasted great. Vegetarian magazines on the table to browse. Service was quick and staff were very pleasant. A great addition to Barrow. Wishing the owners a great future.

Great plant based food and great beer, shame we had to get home for the babysitter otherwise we’d have stayed here for a few extra drinks.

Today the staff were being instructed loudly about what to do. Unsettling atmosphere. Not what one wants to hear. 2 tables downstairs.
