Visited the property for the gardens advertised as participating in the BBC Gardeners World magazine 2 for 1 entry. The place itself looked semi- derelict and unkempt. The gardens were the worst I think I’ve ever seen at any garden open to the public. Overgrown, weedy & unmanaged. It was quite shocking to see. We left within a few minutes.

Family was looking forward to a nice cream tea in what looked as though it would be a really nice place. Had to sit outside (no objection - covid secure). Tables and chairs needed cleaning up. Tea and coffee served in 'Costa' type paper cups. Scones clearly straight from freezer and microwaved. Innards all stodgy. I had a Cheese scone which had a mere sprinkling of cheese on the top and none in the mix. The cream for the cream teas was still frozen. Had to wait for it to thaw before use. Awful experience.

****Please note this is for the gardens and not the tea rooms*** We had a 2for1 voucher for the gardens which were £5, we drove through beautiful countryside to get to this place and were quite excited at what we might find - we were however, very disappointed to say the least. As soon as we parked and saw the house we were shocked at the run down state of it, the windows looked like they were going to fall apart and the welcome was a dog barking at us, however, as we had driven so far we carried on inside, paid our £5 to the oriental owner and went out to find the gardens. We couldn’t believe what we found which was overgrown flower beds, a run down vegetable plot which had mostly been eaten by snails, fruit all over the ground, rubble everywhere (ie, broken walls), and a smelly, dirty pond. In all it took us 15 minutes at the most to look round. We were planning on having a coffee and cake but upon seeing the interior of the house decided not too and it was vile. The house and setting could be a beautiful place for weddings, etc, but I just can’t imagine why anyone would want to come here as it was one of the most unloved and unlooked after places we have ever been to. The owner should be ashamed at charging anything - even if it was free it would be too much (if you are cheeky enough to charge for entrance you really should make sure you maintain it to a reasonable standard). Truly awful place and highly disappointed!

Dropped in here cycling between castles. Delightful, new-age setting. The wholemeal sone was very tasty, my only complaint is that it was definitely smaller than my grandson's classic cream tea scone. Good range of hot drinks. Whole ambience very relaxing.

Found this by chance after visiting skenfrith castle. Lovely food and decent portions and price. Very welcoming owners who grow all the produce and focus on a carbon neutral way of life. Worth a visit. They also cater for vegetarians and hold yoga retreats and have various therapies on offer.

The setting was as advertised, an old country house with landscaped gardens (both were clean and tidy but had seen better days). A beautiful sunny afternoon, with a red kite gliding across the scene helped the ambience. The cream tea however was not up to scratch. The scone was fresh and huge if a little over floury, but the plum jam wasn't to everyone's taste and the cream... well it wasn't. The crockery was dated but without charm and overall the experience was odd. We shan't be returning even though the location was perfect.

Came here through BBC magazine 2 for 1 garden admission and were very pleasant surprised with the stunning view from the back of the house . We saw birds of prey swooping overhead and the peace and tranquility of the place was great. Our cream teas were very good and to relax in such stunning countryside was a bonus

We passed the road signs advertising this place in our way to Grosmont Castle, and were in need of a cup of tea, so we stopped in. Turned out to be a lovely place. There’s a strong Chinese influence in the gift shop which is a little different, but the house and gardens are very traditional and beautiful. We had a lot of tea, and scones which were delicious. All the food is sourced locally and/or made on site. Would definitely go back again.

I really like to avoid leaving bad feedback knowing that it can hurt hard working independent cafes. However this was a miserable experience. The scones had obviously warmed from frozen (or worse) and were stale and inedible. The coffee came in a dirty jug, the tea was warm not hot. I learned from good cafes (e.g. Garden Centre in Ross)- make fresh scones every day and throw them out if they don't sell. The house is in a wonderful setting, but the whole place needs a good clean. Sorry but it is true

Its big leaf tea in transparent teapots and is lovely. Warm big scones with fresh jam and cream. Absolutely gorgeous. If its warm enough, sit outside on ricketty chairs admiring a lovely view. Inside its amazing old gilt furniture and all sorts of unusual things to buy. Slightly weird garden with fairy lights but good plants. Not stayed a night but friends who have loved it. I always try to visit if anywhere near. You can even get a great massage. Its different and wondeful.

Sometimes one discovers a destination unexpectedly that is such a delight that other disappointments are soon forgotten. We had decided to visit Grosmont Castle beautifully situated on an arm of the River Monnow which joins the River Wye at Monmouth. To reach the valley it is a drive north on the B4347 from near Skenfrith Castle. We noticed at the junction a sign with a big tea pot advertising Part-Y-Seal Tea Rooms. After visiting the castle we arrived at 3pm and were delighted to find that the house was open and we had a superb High Tea of scones, cakes and finger sandwiches with a choice of teas for both of us for twenty pounds. Unbelievable value. The house is a large stone built Victorian era building with a 4 acre garden and three bedrooms.Furnished in an oriental style the owners have hosted visitors for more than twenty years. There are views across the valley to the Garways Hills. We vowed to return and stay in this delightful house.

Having just moved into the area, and needing somewhere close to take a friend to lunch, we opted for our most local, sight unseen. It is a really quaint place, and very welcoming. There was a good selection of food available for lunch, and it was attractively presented when it arrived. Service was friendly and efficient. Prices are reasonable. Will no doubt eat there again, and would recommend it to you if passing.

found the tearoom by accident, a bit out of the way, along a b road to grosmont, but well worth the drive, more like a manor house, than a tea room,we arrived on a sunny Friday afternoon, and after looking through the menu, mainly home grown, and cooked fresh, and very reasonably priced,we ordered the high tea,we sat outside on the patio, overlooking the valley and well kept lawns. our food arrived, pot of tea,pot of coffee, lovely selection of tasty sandwiches, and some of the best home cooked cakes, sponges, cheese and plain scones I have tasted, the tearooms are run by an oriental couple, who take so much pride in the service, and quality of the food they serve, there is also a lovely ornate garden to walk of those calories, when the weather turns colder you can relax in the lovely tearooms, beside the wood burner,a lovely relaxing, friendly atmosphere, great food, good service, looking forward to our next visit

Coffee and cake to be had here. Used to be partly owned by a Nice Malaysian-UK family who imported authentic oriental furniture.Country lanes here are very winding. lots of bends and need to ask for directions half-way. Between Skenfrith and Historical Grosmont Castle (also worth a visit so make a day of it)Lovely gardens and you go over a sheep/cattle grid to enter then go straight down a drive surrounded by lovely plants and shrubs.Excellent, picturesque location on the hilly, green border of Wales and England.

Found this place by accident as we were travelling in South Wales. Stopped for lunch and it was lovely. A proper pot of tea and friendly service. The place is run on the basis of low carbon impact so if you're looking for opulence this isn't the place. However, if you want friendly service and nice cuppa I'd definitely recommend it. Will definitely be returning.

This little tea room is really hidden away, but is well worth a visit. Situated on the England-Wales border, it was brilliant for a short stop in the middle of the day for lunch and snacks. The cakes and desserts on offer were particularly delicious - ideal if you're looking for something a little lighter than a full on meal. The drinks on offer were also varied and perhaps less conventional - though the conventional options of tea and coffee were still on offer. Whilst it was a little wait for our order to arrive, the service was still brilliant and had a real personal touch to it. The owners' cat happily wondered about the place, and I was more than happy to give it some attention - though for anyone who may have an allergy I guess this may be something of which you should be aware. The attached shop was also well kept, though we didn't purchase anything. The gardens were similarly well kept, and the view was stunning. Nestled away from any busy roads, you get the hills and fields of the untouched Welsh countryside and it really added to the visiting experience. The whole place was very quiet and relaxed, and I'd recommend it to anyone passing by.

Nestled on the border of England and Wales, Part-Y-Seal is a great find for afternoon tea. Their home made scones, cakes and desserts are delicious! As are their home made drinks like their hot plum drink, if you fancy a change from tea and coffee (which are also on offer). Very tasty light lunches are available too.The ambience is unique. Once a house of 18th century country gentry it's possible to pay a small additional fee to walk in the formal gardens, or simply enjoy your tea overlooking the tranquility of rolling fields (for no extra charge). Inside the decor is an unusual combination of Eastern furniture in classical Georgian architecture. The owner is very welcoming and the service is always polite and friendly. And the icing on the cake are the prices, which are very reasonable for the wonderful food provided.

Beautiful place, olde style with roaring real fires when colder weather. Food is excellent, service is excellent. Elderflower juice is out of this world, as are the scones and cream teas. I have been here quite a few times and will continue to do so. The grounds are also beautiful

We visited this deserted building for afternoon tea and were surprised at how dusty and tired the place was. The man who brought our aft tea was very attentive and served us tasty home made scones and cakes but the milk served with our tea had floating bits in which put us off drinking it. The views are lovely it's a shame nobody else was there. If this place was freshened up and cleaned it would make a lovely wedding venue. As mentioned in another review we waited around to pay we can only assume the poor man needs some help.

If you fancy afternoon tea in a quite English setting with an Oriental twist this is the place for you.The sitting room over looks the garden with views of the valley beyond. If you choose a fine day enjoying tea on the patio is a truly rare experience. There is a wide choice of both lunch and traditional afternoon tea favorites from which to choose. There are many types of tea/coffees to tempt you and the variety and size of the scones and pastries have to been seen to be believed. You will want to dwell here to get the full impact of what this charming old house and gardens have to offer.

We stopped here on our way to Gower after I googled somewhere veggie friendly to stop en-route. I wasn't sure what to expect and as we drove down the winding lanes to get there I started to wonder if I had imagined the place as there was only one sign the whole way that I saw, and without knowing it was there and being in possession of a sat nav we would have given up!We had to ring the doorbell to get in and once inside there is an array of oriental wares on display for purchase which I had to avoid looking at as I'm a sucker for that stuff. We chose to sit outside on the patio and - wow - the view is unparalleled - rolling fields, sheep, blue skies, walled garden... It was gorgeous. The menu was indeed veggie friendly. Hub had a sandwich and I had a bean cassoulet that was tasty if a little watery. The drink selection was interesting and I had a fruit juice that was a very pleasant surprise! There were no other people there, which was odd, but it was a Friday if that makes a difference, and when we came to pay we had to call up to get the proprietor to come back down to take our money - I could have robbed the place blind whilst we waited!!It was charming - a real character building with an amazing view and quirky food - and we could have sat in that garden all day enjoying the vista. Well worth going out of the way for that's for sure.

Every time I'm in South Wales (every few months visiting family as I was originally from there) our treat is to go to here to Fred's for a cream tea. We have tried other foods but nothing beats the cream tea he serves. The scone and jam is homemade, it is a surprise to find out what flavour it will be, we've had all sorts, raspberry, strawberry, blackcurrant, plum, even prune!! and they all taste amazing even when sometimes you aren't sure of a flavour, only one thing would make it perfect and that is clotted cream not whipped cream. They sell an amazing selection of chocolates as well as other knick-knacks.The gardens are lovely, and though I've never stayed at the B&B accommodation, we have seen the rooms enquiring on behalf of other family wanting to stay in the area and they looked very very nice. The front of the building always looks like it needs a good dust and sort out but the actual inside rooms and clean and lovely with wonderful furniture. I can put up with the dusty front knowing I'm getting a cream tea once stepping inside. It's not open every day, so its worth checking ahead.

Due to stay here after a gig in the castle on the 17th of August. The day before, had a message to say that our room we were due to stay in had been flooded, and no other rooms were available. This had been booked since January, so why it was specifically “our”designated room I have no idea. Multiple attempts at contacting them by phone have failed. No other hotel rooms available in Chepstow at such short notice, and has resulted in us having to book a hotel out of the area and booking taxis there and back, so a lot of extra expense. Highly suspicious and extremely poor customer service. Think twice before booking here folks
