The scones here are fantastic. Scones are one of my favourite foods and I like to think of myself as a bit of a scone expert😂. I scored my scone 9.75 out of 10 which is the highest score I have ever given a scone that wasn’t ’homemade’. The fruit content was perfect and the bottom was just as delicious as the top which is quite rare. I highly recommend this adorable little cafe to anyone who loves scones as much as me. You won’t regret it!

Booked afternoon Tea for Father's day while on holiday. Best we've had!....just delicious, lovely & fresh & a great selection of goodies! Staff were excellent, lovely, attentive & helpful! My Mum struggled with the stairs, my fault as I didn't check, but managed well. Loved the atmosphere of the old building! Thanks so much to all, & Emma for responding promptly & helping me with my booking! Will definitely return!

Nestled away just off York’s iconic Shambles, this wand-ering wizard often heads over between tours, and the coffees and cakes never disappoint… All the scones are spellbinding, and I can quickly make them disappear…s’cone in sixty seconds! Add clotted cream or any jam or preserve (I’m not a fan of lemon preserve…it’s just a-curd to me) I especially enjoy the apple and cinnamon, and lemon and blueberry scones. Mrs Wizard often asks me to pick up their Scone and Butter Pudding, and I’m partial to the Burnt Basque Cheesecake. The Friands are recommended too…and with Friands like these, who needs enemies? We arrived to a very busy shop. Well organised. We decided to sit in and were taken upstairs and shown to a table. We ordered a fruit scone with butter cream and jam £8.00 and a piece of Victoria Sponge £3.50 with a pot of Yorkshire Tea £2.80 Everything was good quality well presented and served. Would visit again

Has the traditional afternoon tea with fruit scones. Very delicious! The seating was a tight squeeze but it added to the building. There are some narrow stairs up to the two levels of tables. Very friendly staff. Lovely place for a pot of tea.

Arrived and advised to wait outside for 10 minutes due to limited space. Finally got seated and after 20 minutes sat down we upped and left due to the fact no one came to take our order yet two staff members sitting next to us on their break. Would not recommend however the scones looked lovely

Fancied a cuppa and a fruit scone. This is right in the middle of the medieval area, The Shambles. It's 16:00 26th March. It was busy & its kinda cosy. My bill came to £8. Friendly young staff, running up and down two flights of stairs -bless them 😊. Good selection of freshly baked cakes.

Brilliant little cafe right in the shambles. Scones are homemade and phenomenal!!! I like plain scones which were hard to find in York, Parlermade had a range so everyone in the family was happily catered for. My partner & I both said these were the best scones we've ever had. It is in the shambles so space is tight but it adds to the quaintness, they let us fold the pram up and carry the baby in the carrier to the top floor! Super fancy hot chocolate and great portions with cream and jam! Second visit and can't wait to return

What a quaint place! Been before but our 60 mile drive was well worth it given the delicious blueberry and lemon scone I scoffed! My wife’s cheese and chive scone was also delicious! This place is highly recommended 😀

It is a small place with a lot of charm. We arrived early just after they opened and grabbed a table upstairs. The place has a good atmosphere, but it is small, so if there is no space you can order takeout and there are benches outside in the market. The scones are fresh and soft. Much better accompanied by cream or butter and jam, with tea or coffee of course.

Visited for breakfast yesterday on our first morning in York, as this place had been recommended to me by a friend. We had a wonderful time. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was fresh and delicious. Atmosphere was cosy. In all a 5 star experience. Unfortunately we decided to call again this afternoon to get some scones to take home with us. This time we were met by a very abrupt young lady. The second we stepped through the door she barked at us to ‘stand aside’ as she was serving people. We explained that we just wanted a few scones to take away, but she abruptly said ‘I’m serving people so you must stand aside and wait!’ She was so rude that we left without buying anything. A real shame as if this review was just based on yesterday’s experience this would easily be a 5 star review. But this young lady’s attitude this afternoon really let the place down.

The best cakes and scones in all York, even in the UK. Very pleasant staff, cozy place. They made an excellent coffe. For those who are looking for real taste of coffe this is a right place. Recommend this place 100%

I stopped by Parlormade Cafe after a long tour on a cold and rainy day. The scone and hot tea were delicious, and the staff was exceptionally nice and friendly.

Beautiful scones, great drinks and service. We had to queue but the scones made it worthwhile, however they do run out of flavours Cramped seating but it's an old small building. We were also sat by an incredibly hot heater on table 11. However beautiful spot for a cuppa

Light, fresh scones for all tastes. I chose the classic cream tea, however there are all kinds of scones, both sweet and savoury. The setting is great, overlooking the market square. We had the second floor to ourselves, being a large group.

Was recommended here by a neighbour. Place works both ways, it is a bit cramped but it's built that way. Staff were nice!!

Our first visit to York and we had planned to come here following previous reviews. We arrived around 11.15 and hadn't eaten and thought why not. We were shown to a table on the top floor. Everything was just superb. Scones, we chose our own scone and jam, and we had a coffee each. Service was excellent a credit to all the staff and having to balance plates up and down narrow stairs 👏. I would highly recommend a visit when in York.

Nice scones BUT... Tiny shop there is seating upstairs according to the sign but as it was late afternoon we received a grumpy it's full. Opted for takeout to sit at the benches alongside the shop. 4 teas and 4 scones £20.00 fair price in York but if you want butter to go on your scones it's 50p for a small pat of butter really enough for half a scone. It would have been cheaper to go and buy a block of butter from the coop. On a plus side the scones were nice liked the cherry and lime one. Why spoil it by trying to rip off with the extras someone getting greedy

These scones, the service and the place are all wonderful. Scones cannot be described but my friend (a native Brit) says they are the best she's ever had! I loved them but have less to compare! The place is so historic and amazing. It is a towered tiny house that brings you back in time as you sip your tea. The service was so great and the staff have to go up and down many steps to serve the customers and they do so with a smile! Go here for sure!
