Mi compañero y yo visitamos este bar el 23/02/19. No estaba ocupado, compramos una botella de vino tinto en el bar y pagué con tarjeta. Pensé que la identificación había equivocado mi número al principio, luego de unos segundos, la licitación del bar me dio un recibo por 68. 07! ! ! De repente me di cuenta y se lo devolví y le dije que el vino sólo tenía 10. 00! ! ! Los dos estábamos bebiendo rojo, así que decidimos que era más barato comprar la botella. . . De todos modos, se disculpó y luego pareció desconcertado en cuanto a cómo rectificar la situación. . . (fácil nunca tome 58. 00 más en primer lugar!). Pocos minutos después llegó con 58. 00 en efectivo y un recibo. Tomé el dinero, acepté la disculpa y continué con mi velada. Veinte minutos más tarde, solicitó la devolución del dinero en efectivo porque había decidido que necesitaba acreditar mi cuenta con la máquina de la tarjeta y me dio otro recibo y su número de teléfono móvil en caso de algún problema. Me prometió que había solucionado el reembolso y que habría regresado a mi cuenta la semana siguiente. ¡Ahora son 11 días después y después de innumerables llamadas al banco y al camarero que ahora ha bloqueado mi número! Todavía no hay reembolso! y el gerente Phil nunca se molestó en devolverme la llamada como había prometido. El banco estuvo de acuerdo en que no hay pagos pendientes que vayan a mi cuenta y el PIN se ingresó una vez correctamente, obviamente, de lo contrario, se habría rechazado. Todavía estoy en disputa con este lugar y nunca volveré otra vez!

We visited York after a flight cancellation to Amsterdam so had done no research on York at all. We stumbled across this little bar by accident. It's hidden away in a lovely courtyard. Great prices and great staff. The manager was really friendly. 2 for 1 cocktails were our choice of drink. We had a lovely time and re-visited the next night although we did have to ask where it was. It's easy to miss so ask.

Descubierto por accidente, pero realmente disfruté de este lugar, personal amable y era 2 por 1, así que los precios de las bebidas eran muy razonables. Tuve un dj, tocando música de baile que era bueno, mi única crítica fue que los muebles, etc. significaba que el entorno no parecía tan "lujoso" como podría haber sido.

Nice secluded setting with a good choice of cocktails . Great little courtyard with outdoor seating which would be a sun trap in the summer . Staff friendly and manager very welcoming . What a hidden gem !

It is off down an alley and has a nice courtyard area. You have to come inside at midnight which is a shame but understandable. Well worth a visit even as a stop gap.

Love this hidden little gem of a cocktail bar. The musics always banging and the vibe is always really good. Always a good place to go on a night out

What a hidden gem. We went on a Saturday night and even though it wasn't busy there was a great atmosphere. Good music and lovely outdoor area. Didn't sample any cocktails but enjoyed a couple of hours in macumba, will definitely be going back

Nice enough bar but the management need to review who works there! They need a more people person! Asking people to move when there is nobody else waiting the staff need to be more friendly if it I would never recommend anyone to drink here!!! People skills would be a great training tool for the less than capable staff that work there, the security staff are nice enough but whoever else works there needs serious training! If you need people to move then ask nicely

Sat in outdoor seating area to all sit together (birthday celebration of 5 girls) the outdoor area is not suitable for tables to hold drinks as tables are on a 45 degree angle and one slid off, miserable staff refused to reimburse us for this as apparently it was our own fault, unsure how ? Prices aren't exactly cheap either, paying £2.50 for half a pint of Coke that could not be refunded. Would not advise to drink here... poor mans version of evil eye.

Quizás el peor cócteles que he probado. Chico en la puerta parecía realmente molesto cuando tratamos de sentarse y tomar una copa fuera y dice que dentro a pesar de un montón de gente ya allí. No conseguir eso. En general era simplemente pobres, muchachos en el bar parecía bastante miserable y los cócteles eran terribles.

Had pre meals drinks here and best bar in york we felt. Small with great atmosphere. Hard to find bit worth looking for

Such a great place both for chilled drinks and partying! Cocktails are great and also 241 if you go on certain days! Nice heated outside as well. Definitely worth a try if you're from York or just here for the day.

We stopped in on my hen night and the music was great and the drinks yummy. The bar man left everyone open mouthed when he poured three cocktails simultaneously. Plenty of dancing and a really nice area outside where you could sit.

Fuimos un par de cócteles por la noche de San Valentín. Era tan tranquilo pero era un domingo. Se podía ver desde fotos en las pantallas de televisión que la gente me encanta el lugar.

Had a lovely time here on Saturday evening. Fab drinks and a lovely dancing area on ground floor. The Dj played some great tunes and was responding to peoples' requests. Will be back!

Came here last saturday with friends loved the music and atmosphere looks small but there is 3 floors and outside courtyard with patio heaters recommend everyone (ps. Cocktails are different not like ither bars they all similar or same thing )

Visited the bar twice during the same day. The first visit was a lovely relaxed atmosphere, very quiet but a friendly staff and nice drinks at reasonable prices. We returned later in the evening and it was still quite quiet but again was a friendly atmosphere and comfortable bar looking on to barley hall. It's a bit hidden away but well worth a visit

Me and my boyfriend thought we'd pop in for a drink about 3pm on a Saturday afternoon after Evil Eye was full, and we are so glad we did! Lovely atmosphere and outside area. Can't comment on the food but I tried quite a few of the cocktails, all reasonably priced and tasted delicious! Only popped in for one and ended up staying until about 7pm - very clean environment and attentive staff. Also played a wide range of music, which we thoroughly enjoyed, will definitely be back!

We came here a couple of months back for lunch. Food was really delicious - we shared a platter - and it was beautifully presented and of very good quality. Staff were lovely and friendly. Would like to go back!

Lovely little cocktail bar in the backs of the city through little passage ways. Just stumbled across this little venue as we were exploring the passage ways etc. Lovely cocktails!

A little quiet for bank holiday but lovely cocktail. Chilled and within the lovely Barley Hall yard. Came accross by chance had no idea it was here!

We had a drink here on our night out in York. The drinks were a reasonable price. The music was absolutely banging! I particularly liked the amount of outside sitting, where you could still here and enjoy the music, but allowed us to be able to smoke.

We went here for £5, 2 for 1 cocktails on a Monday night (no kids, so had an adhoc date night) I went because of the reviews on here. It didn't disappoint. Lovely cocktails in Martini glasses, not weak at all! It was a warm still evening, so sat outside in the courtyard next to Barley Hall. Perfect (apart from the wobbly table, so nearly ended up wearing the marguerita!)

Well, I went here with a group of friends and I won't go back. We ordered 8 drinks and not one of them was up to standard. The Mojito was like fizzy water and the Long Island Iced Tea wasn't any better.We complained and I have to say they weren't too bothered. They added a little more alcohol to the Mojitos but still poor. For some reason they wouldn't even attempt to put the Long Island Iced Tea right.They not to measure the drinks so I suspect this is part of the problem. We left the drinks and didn't pay. Poor!

Went here for the £5 2-4-1 cocktails between 5pm and 7pm which was excellent value. The location is excellent close to the Minster and we sat outside which was a lovely little courtyard setting. Would recommend this highly. We later went to the Banyan bar which was on the next little street down and offered 2 cocktails for £8 all day which again was excellent value.

I love this little bar, nestled away down the alleyways of York is this gem for anyone who like me loves a cocktail or just a reasonably priced drink in a good atmosphere here you'll get it,Don't worry if it looks busy in the bar area theres outside seating and another floor enjoy this place its worth a visit. :)

Went there for 2-4-1 Happy hour. £5 for two quality Mojitos, there's probably no better deal in town. The staff was really helpful as well. I went there on my first day in York, and he gave me nice suggestions for dinner place and night out :) Highly recommend!

We ate here as a family for lunch. A deal of 3 Tapas style dishes per person for £10 was on offer as they were just getting hoping with food. We selected a nice big platter full of all sorts of different dishes which were all really good. Lovely little place down a side alley, lovely friendly staff and good price. Really enjoyed it and would recommend.

We visited Macumba 3 times in the 5 days we stayed in York! What a most wonderful experience at Macumba. Every member of staff extremely polite, professional, friendly, especially the proprietor called Ana, she could not do enough for us. Each item of food was prepared fresh from the chef, who occasionally came to our table to check everyone was happy with his food. The flavours of the food lingered, incredible food. To go back somewhere for food, 3 times, says it all !!!

Well worth a visit.. its right next door to the barley hall .. pretty central five to seven Sunday to Thursday it does two for a fiver. Well worth a pit stop to be honest. .

A real hidden gem of York! The atmosphere inside was incredible, and the staff were more than happy to look after my every need! A must visit for anyone especially during the summer.

I was very impressed with the music and saxophonist. I will certainly be there every forth Friday of the month.Cocktails are a must. Great crowd and atmosphere.

Tucked away down a little side street is a lovely cocktail bar 2 for 1 5-7pm £5.00 a cocktail after that. Strange sat outside in December drinking cocktails but great also. Definitely call in again

The Mon-Thur offer of 2 for 1 before 7pm must be one of the best in YorkNo watery prepared cocktails ; proper strength with a kick.The offer is limited to about 5 cocktails and Sex on the Beach is definitely the pick

I frequently pop into Macumba in the evenings after work for a few drinks. I love the friendly staff, quality drinks and great location. If you fancy well made cocktails in a beautiful and cosy York setting, then this is the place for you!

Popped in as a couple on Sunday evening and had four cocktails between us. The cocktails are excellent quality and the service was very good, so we would say it is worth a visit. They have a nice outside area where you can chill out in the sun if it is nice weather, or in the evening until the early hours and we will visit again.

This cocktail bar is truly magnificent. We ordered two cocktails - a cosmopolitan and a long Island iced tea. It was free poured and the measures were very generous.The first attempt at the cosmopolitan went slightly wrong (there was a leaf in it). We said that we'd have it as it was but she insisted that she'd make another one for us. We sat down with our drinks and, when she'd got the leaf out of the first attempt at the cosmopolitan, she brought it over to us at no extra cost.Great service, great drinks, good price. Fantastic measures!

This is a great cocktail bar, the 2 for 1 before 7 pm is such a good deal. A good range of cocktails, all made properly by very helpful staff. The place is a little hard to find, down a small street off stonegate by barlay hall, well worth a visit!

I was really looking forward to coming in here with a living social deal, a couple of cheeky cocktails before dinner in York! The result was pretty disappointing. We walked down a little alleyway and past a huge industrial bin to get into the place...not a great first impression. Inside it was empty but as it was 630pm we didn't expect great atmosphere, but the layout of the bar is so disappointing! It certainly doesn't live up to 'cocktail' expectations! It's more like drinking a mojito in mcdonalds.... The drinks were really nice but get your act together with your interior design.... Felt very sloppy. Wouldn't go back :-(

Visited Macumba on our visit to York this week. Tucked away down a side alley I found the bar friendly and inviting. It wasn't very busy on both our visits but that made it more appealing. Nice cocktails, good music and pleasant atmosphere. Will definitely return

We visited Macumba on Saturday 19th July as part of a hen party. The cocktails were really good and served well. The mojitos were given in a decorative tin which was a nice touch. It was busy but we never waited for our drinks as the staff were knowledgeable and fast. The music played was mainly R n B which was different and lots of old brilliant tunes were played that we hadn't heard for a while. The outside seating area was big although we were too busy taking pictures in the stocks! When passing through, it's a must to stop here!

Sunday afternoon trip with friends. I have read all the reviews and a couple are suggesting average or terrible. I don't believe there are enough reviews altogether to offer a valid opinion. But am willing to share mine.Nobody else in the bar we ordered drinks and the bar person didn't seem that eager to help. I'd asked for the Zombie with a death proof rum as an addition. Only to be informed it wasn't available, weirdly the convesation didn't go anywhere as the bar person just turned around!!I requested the same order but without the special rum, nothing was really said, although I did get a kind of grimace which i'm accepting as a smile. It did seem unconfortable for placing an order.Drinks were ok. i've had similar elsehere, no atmosphere here. Didn't feel inviting or friendly. Maybe it's different on an evening or with more people. Or dare I say.... different bar staff?

We going there regularly and never get disappointed. Good customer service, really nice and tasty cocktails. I can only recommend this place for everyone.

We stopped at Macumba on Sunday afternoon when the sun was shining and it couldn't have been nicer. Although it is located down a small alley the out door seating area is a decent size and is a great little sun trap. The cocktail menu is a good size, not quite as extensive a read as Evil Eye but enough to cater for most if not all tastes. It is also very reasonably priced, with most of the main cocktails coming in at under £6 and only the champagne ones being a bit more but still only around £6.50. The member of staff, Katerina, was lovely and so friendly and helpful. Looking forward to spending some sunny (hopefully) afternoons and evenings at Macumba and working my way through the menu. A real must if you want to sit, relax and have a nice cocktail away from the the main bars and streets, especially on a hot day.

Great spot to have a couple of drinks with friends although we ended up staying most part of the night, good number of cocktails to choose from at affordable prices, great music and very friendly staff. We will definitely be visiting again.

Great little find in York had a few drinks round York and decided to go to evil eye but there was a queue and noticed this little bar opposite up a side street. Quaint bar with a couple of floors and an outside terrace and the drinks were really reasonable and got served really fast. So ended up staying in there most of the night

Managed to squeeze two cocktails for the price of one in before I went for an evening's entertainment at the Barley Hall next door. The Strawberry Daquari and Margarita were great, the staff were friendly and it was salsa night. If I hadn't been going to the show, I could easily have spent the night there.

Came to this bar in a cold evening but left with satisfaction. There was live music performed by a nice young lady singing various genres. The bar provides beautiful and tasy cocktails with affordable price, good music and brilliant stuff. Especially the manager was very attentive. The bar has free wi-fi access. Highly recommend it

Went in when the queues for the Evil Eye were too long, cocktails were ok, not brilliant just average.

Slow service and poor staff. Waited ages then eventually left without being served. Staff ignored us totally

We work locally and visit regularly. Excellent place for after work drinks. Brilliant bartenders- friendly and enthusiastic. Always have a good time :)

We go to macumba all the time it's our fav bar in York ! The cocktails are the best in York and staff are really friendly . Great atmosphere !!

me and my friends went to Macumba for a quiet drink one night and its far better than any other bars that I have been in in York. it has a great atmosphere and music, the staff are very friendly and attentive. i especially like the decor in the VIP area which is amazing!! down to the fine details. it really is a hidden gem in York. would recommend it to anyone in the area :)

This is a real gem of a bar hidden in amongst the maze of back streets and alleyways York is famous for. Great drinks, really friendly staff and a real Mediterranean feel to the place.

Macumba is a great cocktail bar down a little snickleway a few feet away from all the main restaurants and bars. We have become regulars there and love having Sunday afternoon drinks there. The staff are always friendly and helpful and every request is met with enthusiasm! They have cocktail deals and a new food menu has just started! Cant wait to try their food - if their cocktails are anything to go by!

This amazing little cocktail bar has all the atmosphere and flair of the 80's tom cruise film, cocktail. It is the best cocktails in York with amazing staff. Our party enjoyed the music as it was a great mix.I would recommend this bar to anyone, especially if you enjoy a great night with lots of atmosphere.

Came across purely by chance in the rain , we were only ones in on the Thursday night due to the thunder n lightning staff were so friendly the dj was great fun playing any song we requested . The bar offers great cocktail deals throughout the day but is competively priced when deals aren't on. They do some of the best cocktails here having sampled most of the bars previously we loved the hurricane cocktails they were gorgeous and I had a pornstar martini , all cocktails are nicely presented in nice glasses and we all came back the next night to sample some more and you can tell this bar is popular as it was so busy even though it was still raining !!! We will definitely be back next year

Although this is not the biggest venue, it is also not the smallest. :)The staff are friendly and welcoming and there is a fairly impressive back bar inside. Cocktail deals run throughout the week and there is a good heated seating area outside.Will be back again.
