The best I can say is that you know what you’re getting and you get it. Perfectly serviceable food and service. A bit pricey but isn’t everywhere. Have no qualms about taking my family to the Park Cafe. I don’t expect Gordon Ramsey (and you don’t get it) but if you want an experience above a McDonald’s, then it’s fine. Would like to see some local competition in the park so we can make a choice but perfectly satisfied (no more) with the Ansell monopoly.

The toilets and baby change are terrible. There were no sanitary bins for safe disposal of sanitary towels and no nappy bin. This can cause cross contamination with staff handling bins and food. The nappy changing table is extremely old and filthy. It only costs £4 a month to have a sanitary unit emptied, it’s a no brainier. The food is quite expensive which is disappointing seeing as there is no other food outlet at the park apart from ice cream vans. Won’t be returning

Shocking ! Nothing good to say about the awful Place. Poor food, poor service. Absolutely overpriced. No competition in the park allowed. Only good thing about it is when I feel a bit fed up I look at the menu when passing by. That always gives me a good laugh. Still they will keep raking in the dosh while fools keep paying the prices.

Substandard quality, over priced. Caterers of distinction?🤣. I’m a local man and will never visit again. If you want a quality cup of coffee then you will do yourself a MASSIVE favour if you keep walking for 5 minutes to a small coffee shop - No68 on King Edward Road. I’ll always walk past the park cafe and go to this one every time from now on. Also now have a loyalty card scheme!.

Lovely cafe and I've been here loads. I've had food here before - it does get busy on a weekend but then it's in a park so that's to be expected. The food is delicious and the drinks and ice creams are excellent. They have bowls of water out for the dogs as well

I was brought my dinner and was still awaiting my husbands and both our drinks. In the end my husband went over and came back with our drinks. I had finished my meal by this time. Still waiting for my husbands meal. They ended up bringing out the meal that I had which we didn't want. I went in and complained and it turns out they had not written it down but we paid for it. He wanted two pasties but by this time they only had one left so he had to have one pasty and one sausage roll. I did manage to get two free cakes from them when I asked for them to be free after the inconvenience. Very poor service.

On a beautiful day with family we wanted to enjoy a lunch sitting in Abington Park at the cafe, unfortunately the only one, if there had been a choice we would have had an option. In Abington Park, you are restricted to the Park Cafe only. So, we ordered a 1/2 pounder burger, a veggie burger and a chicken burger. We asked if they were served with fries, and were told that they were not. so we ordered two large portions of fries to share. We also ordered a cappuccino, a mocha and a tea, alongside two ice-creams. The drinks were fine, the ice-cream was lovely, but the food, was disgusting! The half-pound burger: processed meat, cooked earlier and re-heated, basic 'matter' void of flavour, for £12.50! The chicken burger: it actually was chicken, but nothing on the bun, dry and basic. The veggie burger was a frozen veggie burger bought in and heated, also on a dry bun! The chips were industrial and over cooked. The 'burgers' were served with fries, albeit a small portion in a metal cage; but we only received one of the portions we ordered. Everything was served with a salad as a garnish, covered in a sour dressing; what if we wanted our salad dry? No choice, so couldn't eat the salad. I also witnessed a waitress walk outside with one plate of food, the caged fries fell over on the plate with the majority of the fries falling to the ground, not only did she not replace the lost fries, but she continued to serve the plate of reduced food to the child who had ordered it. There was plenty of staff to provide a good service, but when you give a customer a numbered spoon to correspond with their order it would be a genius idea to call that number out when seeking the customer in a sea of people, instead aimlessly shuffling through the hungry crowd, dropping food, in the hope the customer will be able to identify their own order and beckon the waitress to their wobbly table in their desperate patience as waiting for over 25 mins to finally receive their order renders them so hungry, at that point all standards are rendered non-existent, thus not complaing at the time. What started off as a humble business has now become a coorporate mill of sights only seeking the mighty pound. We will never be returning and we can only live in the hope of another cafe opening in the park. Having the monopoly on this provision ensures the highwayman to stand in the knowledge of no compeitition, therefore, charge what you want, and don't look back!

Purchased three drinks, went to sit outside, after finding a table that either didn’t wobble or chair falling to bits with screws missing or damaged Whicker work sat down to drink. At this point of the three drinks one was stone cold one tepid the other just drinkable. The patio area was dirty and a dead Rodent was lying under the window of the open serving hatch, this had clearly been there for several days. The owner was not present and despite leaving a message for a callback, nothing, clearly not interested

I visited for the first time on a sunny day with family and a baby and sat outside. I was so impressed with the food / service. We ordered sandwiches, chips and drinks and the people taking our order were friendly and efficient and when the food came it was really good quality with a very decent side salad on the sandwiches. We went back for ice creams and they were really nice too. The food quality of park cafes catering to families is usually pretty basic / poor so this was a really pleasant surprise.

My friends and I regularly have coffee at the Park Cafe, which is a lovely location. BUT why is it down to unpaid volunteers to put the chairs out. Instead of the plastic plants how about cleaning the tables at the start of the day. Coffee quality is variable. Seems the staff are very young and just not trained properly with customer service, which sometimes leaves a lot to be desired. It’s a shame the standards are low and owner complacent because he fights off any competition.

The food portions are ok and the location is nice but it doesn’t justify the ridiculous prices for everything on the menu. It was £7.50 for a sandwich. Perhaps if the bread was thick and crusty It would go some way to justifying it but it’s just bog standard hovis/warburtons. All the seating is falling apart and it seems nothing is spent on the interior. The whole place is dusty and generally unclean. The owner often parks his Bentley outside the cafe which feels like a kick in the teeth to the locals who have to pay such ridiculous prices to have to sit in a rundown cafe. And I don’t say ‘have to sit’ lightly, because the owner is local Councillor Tony Ansell who has repeatedly blocked other businesses from being able to operate in the park so he can monopolise on the business. It really is shameful.

Popped in here to treat myself to lunch after a bike ride. First challenge was getting anyone to acknowledge my existence. Admittedly they were very busy but still. The individual at the til just looked worn out and like the last thing they needed was another customer. It was a hot day so was after a sandwich rather than something hot. I’m vegetarian and unfortunately the only available filling was cheese (or beans but from experience they don’t make great sandwiches). If you’re vegan you’re out of luck. I ordered, got my flat white and sat down. The coffee was actually ok. Service was slow. Took about 20 minutes+ to get my sandwich. This could still have been forgiven as it was a busy Easter weekend but the sandwich was just terrible. Catering margarine, a near flavourless catering grade grated cheese and some cherry tomatoes. I’ve had nicer school packed lunches. Came with a half decent salad and ‘prawn cocktail’ crisps (did I mention I was vegetarian). I know there’s no prawns in there but just thoughtless! Based on other reviews this cafe is obviously good at some things, coffee, ice cream, cakes maybe but for a summer veggie lunch best look elsewhere.

Thanks to an unfair monopoly on where to eat in the park (the terms of lease mean no other facility is allowed to be established) you're stuck eating here. The coffee is nice, but the food is very overpriced. £2.99 for a cash n carry bought muffin is ridiculous, and the claim that the pastries are freshly baked is laughable when you see the staff putting them onto the shelves from a sealed plastic tray. Also the cafe seems to be ever encroaching onto the grassy area around the bandstand, meaning less room for kids to play in the park.

I live near Abington Park and visit it, and the Cafe, most days as we walk the dog. Tony Ansell, the manage of the cafe, is also the town mayor, and he has made great changes to the park in the past year. Previously the park had become neglected, dirty and run-down. Now it is better cared for, cleaner and prettier. His cafe tries very hard. I love the way they decorate for each seasonal event, eg Easter, Hallowe’en, Christmas, etc. There is a good menu, the food is tasty and whilst there is quite a turn around of staff, mostly Eastern European, I find them quite charming and friendly, though they don’t always understand and sometimes get your order wrong!I find the drinks quite over-priced and not always very hot. I’ve had to send ‘hot’ chocolate back before, ditto lattes that weren’t topped up to the top of the glass, and lukewarm. My main issues are a) with the toilets - often dirty, with no toilet paper (I’ve had to rummage under the sink for toilet paper myself) and wet floors b) the tables outside really need replacing! It’s hard to find one that is stable. And some of the chairs have part of the structure missing, making them potentially hazardous!c) lack of organisation amongst the staff! It’s not rocket science! Instead of using one coffee machine, use both. Instead of one person taking orders haphazardly from the indoor counter and the outside one (creating ill-feeling when someone gets served when you’ve been waiting for much longer) why not have two staff, one at each counter? Sometimes there’s a member of staff simply placing cups on saucers and on to trays, once the barista has made the coffee/tea; I’m sure they could be better occupied. So many staff, many not doing anything useful! That’s why it takes ages to get served! And whilst I’m on the subject, when staff bring food orders outside, why do they then walk back in, empty-handed when tables need clearing?!! I always clear my table by placing cups, plates etc back at the serving hatch, to help them out. If everyone did the same it would save staff hassle. But that’s beside the point. A member of staff needs to be out there at busy times, clearing and wiping down tables - AND chairs! I’ve seen what children leave on them and have sat in ice cream!d) some shade on hot days like we had last year would be very welcome; perhaps a sail shade rugged up somehow?Despite these gripes, I love it there, and visit most days.

Happen to have visited here a number of times lately, and so feel that I could add some feedback for potentially a very good cafe! It’s currently just lacking a few things which would make it much more appealing. The cafe is the only one in the park so will always get custom and will always be busy in the summer, I guess this may be why it often seems a bit neglected! The toilets firstly are always pretty gross..we come with a group of babies and it’s always a dread having to change them in the changing area which is in the ladies toilet. PLEASE keep these clean! Toilet cleanliness makes such a difference to people’s view of a place...Secondly the staff need to cheer up! They’re always so grumpy and I don’t think I’ve ever had a smile from any of them! There was once a man there - unsure if he was the owner but he was actually very friendly and was helping us with the menu - the rest of the staff need to be friendly and cheery like him.In the winter there are heaters inside the cafe which is actually quite cute, although I guess some central heating wouldn’t go a miss. The choice of menu is quite good, and the food here has always been nice. They have some good cakes and the service is usually fast. There are great amounts of seating outside the cafe and the park is lovely to watch and enjoy from there. Just a few minor tips to try and make it a bit more enjoyable!

It was a blustery weekend for walking in the park and we stopped here first for a quick drink, seemingly very busy for Saturday morning. Sunday was a quieter affair as we decided to try the food here. What caught the eye was the tomato and basil soup in a boule. £5.99 seemed reasonable and with that ordered and a bacon and egg sandwich a couple of drinks it was around £15 however disappointed I was overcharged by a fair bit, challenging it he realised the mistake but still gave me 20p short after my contactless transaction. Think it be better if customers received a receipt. The food took sometime to arrive but it is fresh. The soup was served in a whole boule and what looked like a huge serving of soup. It was indeed and my partner challenged herself to trying to complete it. The bread she declared was very tasty and crispy on the outside whilst lovely and soft inside. ...mainly for the Victoria Sponge which is very nice! Often quite busy, especially on really hot, sunny days, but when we've managed to get in there we've had very nice coffees and cakes and will be returning soon! It's our new place to go this summer (or one of...) for allllll the cake!

Tables were very dirty, food mediocre. The average service and rather expensive prices made us regret going there.

Driving down from the West Mids early Saturday morning my mind was fixed on having a good, tasty, full breakfast and a walk in the park. The breakfast menu was limited but it did have a full English. I asked for Poached Eggs "We can't do these" was the reply. Really a chef who can't make poached eggs!! Never mind I thought I'm sure it will be fine. How wrong could I be. Basically the ingredients are the cheapest they can find. Sausages that look and taste like they were in a tin with the beans, overdone fried eggs and cheap rubbery bacon that was under cooked, we asked for it to be crispy. Why would you put uncooked cherry tomatoes on a fried breakfast? Why would it come with a pot of mayo?!! It comes to something when the best item on the plate was the fried bread!!

Quick pitstop but ensure you take enough cash. This cafe delivers poor customer service accompanied by filthy tables and poor beverages and eats. It was not overly busy when we visited but the tables had the previous occupants crockery on the table. Ordering was like I wasn't speaking the english language as I had to repeat what I wanted several times despite it being 5 drinks and a couple of light bites and sweets. Overall this is fine if you go to the park and need a quick drink but it is pricey but it's captive audience. If you're a coffee lover don't get your hopes up, you'll pay the price but the quality and the prospect of an actual hot drink is limited.

The food is good but very, very expensive with average service. The youngsters are polite but slow and have barely any customer skills. At a visit at a busy time the service, the state of the place and quality of food/drink is quite poor but at a quiet time, it is alright service, fairly clean and the quality of food/drink is average. There are clean toilets, indoor and outdoor seats and a variety of food usually.

I have been living in Northampton for 5 years now and like every other person when the weather warms up, I like to make the most of it - get out & go to the park. So I go to Abington Park to enjoy the good weather. While I'm there, I fancy a coffee. The obvious place to go is the well appointed 'Park Cafe' that is unmissable.

The Park Cafe takes full advantage of being the only place to eat/drink in the park. Prices are sky high, the service from largely a team of teenagers is average - the only winner here is the cafe owner!

Went in for something hot to drink to warm ourselves up. My daughter, son in law and grandson had something to eat and my husband had a hot drink. God was it cold in there. With only one bar of the gas fire on and an electric fire on it had no chance of ever warming up. The main reason for this was the door was wide open, and l heard a couple of people ask if the door could be shut, only to be told they were told not to the door had to stay open! Even when the owner arrived he had the scense to keep his coat on! With the price of the food here l would have thought a heating system should be given some priority, and as l say it was warmer outside than it was in here.

I visited the Park cafe for a quiet lunch with my friend. Although the prices are quite high, we settled on having two of the kids lunches, mine was fish and chips, with a side order of beans, and my friend chose sausage, chips and beans. The service was second to none, the cafe was very welcoming, warm, clean and also child and dog friendly, the staff were an absolute joy, very helpful and keen to make our visit a good one. The food was cooked and serves in a timely manner, was delicious and a good portion size. I also had a lovely hot chocolate with all the extras. I would definitely recommend this cafe to anyone who wants to enjoy an quiet lunch, or even tea and cake as a pit stop whilst walking round the park. The facilities were clean, and there is extra seating outside.

It's in the park so it's a captive audience. Very camp interior with a patronising slant to the owner flaunting with celebs..pathetic. Nothing special.

Park Café is wonderfully located in the middle of Abington Park, Northampton but in recent months is at risk of becoming the victim of its own success.

I have on,y visited once, for business, and the staff were very accommodating with the requirements and changes made whilst there for a whole morning. I don't remember the prices as I wasn't paying but the quality of food was good.

Have been to this cafe many times, in the summer we listen to the bands in the park (my husband sometimes plays in the band) In the winter we walk in the park and always end up having at least a drink in the cafe we love this place. The staff are always friendly even when they are rushed in the summer. They have fabulous icecream.

I often conduct group walks in Abington Park and then almost always end up here, with an ice-cream treat in the summer and a hot drink on the cold winter days. Some of my group often eat here and the food is always praised.

The Park Cafe is great on a sunny day to pop in for a coffee or a meal. It's not cheap but the drinks and meals are good. The outdoor seating is great in the summer and there are regular events held in the bandstand. Don't worry if it's winter as the inside seating is good too.

We nearly always stop off from a walk around one of Northampton's best features, Abington Park, for coffees or teas at Mr Ansell's café. It does not get all that good a ride with some other TA reviewers I notice, but we have always found it a pleasant place, with friendly staff and decent tea/coffee served in proper crockery and not polystyrene cups. We have not sampled the food as yet but recently the whole place has been renovated and the new menu looks alright. Service can be a little slow at times perhaps but overall this is a decent venue, and as a local business offering a relaxing experience in pleasant surroundings deserves our support.

Almost every weekend when we come and walk the dogs, and almost every weekend they are either slow, get the order wrong and can barely manage to serve you. For the price you pay i expect better, and if they had a rival in park area it wouldn't take much to loose most of their custom

Often pop in here for a coffee and a bun. Coffee is fine, buns are good. Maybe a little expensive, but would rather spend money in a local business than a coffee chain. They even put out water bowls for the visiting dogs!

Popped in here late evening whilst wandering about the park - over £7 for a Jacket potato and a carton of Ribena?! I had it with Tuna and cheese, and was served it with tuna..... but a pile of grated cheese in a polystyrene container on the side! If anything I would have rather have had it the other way round so that the cheese melted into the potato, as it should do.

The coffees seem to be made really well, and they can turn toasted sandwiches into the best things you've ever eaten. Friendly staff too. Very nice and cosy, inside or outside. Pet- and family-friendly too.

Called in one Sunday afternoon. Took 20 minutes to queue and be served 2 coffees. Lovely place in the park. Shame about the bad service. The staff didn't seem to know what they were doing eg. walking back to the kitchen after serving food passing by/ignoring many tables waiting to be cleared. Better to take a picnic.

Food was alright considering we had to wait about half an hour and we had to queue for another half an hour. Then all the food arrived at different times so none of us actually ate together. The outside bit allows dogs but they're not allowed in the actual restaurant and at this time of year it's way too cold to be sitting outside. There used to be an indoor dog seating section but since the Costa was removed, so was the seating area. Food is what your normally expect from a garden centre: good choice of jacket potatoes, paninis, soups, sandwiches etc. It was very busy though.
