Pappys Traditional Smokehouse in South Lanarkshire

Visited this restaurant after seeing it on TV. All I can say is the food is really poor and not at all what I was expecting. Cumberland sausage is nothing like Cumberland sausage. It is more like a processed herby hot dog sausage. The burger was under seasoned and had watery fluid running out of it which had sent all the bread soft. The chips were like frozen oven chips and really disappointing. Such a shame as the staff were lovely…. But I really would give it a miss - there are far better eateries in Kendal.

Called in on Friday 10th June approx 9.15pm and ordered a half rack of ribs and fries expecting authentic smoked ribs only to find when I got home the ribs were like the full rack of ribs you can buy yourself out of Asda and re-heat for 30 minutes for £3.50. Don't see the value or authenticity. Won't be back.

I went to pappy's with the family I think was a Tuesday. I had booked there other restaurant not realising this till we arrived and was told that they didn't take bookings on a Tuesday. I was told that they were happy to accommodate Us and sat us at a table and told us that everything was going to be have to be made from scratch if we didn't mind an extra 5 mins to prep the food. The host was fantastic explaining the menu and asked us our preferences to advise us on what strength of spice me and my brother decided to have on our wings which I might add were amazing. All the families food was cooked to perfection no complaints. We where very well looked after and would recommend it.

Went while hungover thinking some comfort food. Food was not special and over priced for what it was. A waste of money and time. Would have been better at McD's

Terrible meals nothing for vegetarians to which we should have been informed when seated ordered a vegetarian platter there was more meat on plate than the meat eaters then we were rushed to finish as a party was arriving its a bloody nightmare would not recommend there are better eating places in Hamilton x

Such a waste of money! Food was disgusting, I'm sure Gordon Ramsay would have a field day in this place. The chips were the worst almost certain they are frozen Iceland chips! Your big portions don't make up for crap tasteless food! Never again

Previous visit here was to their old premises which looked nothing like an American Smokehouse and it the same in their new location, very bland look, no Smokehouse / US feel to it. Also it is connected to Shikool's Bar but more of that later. We dropped in for an early bite on Saturday (17:00) so only us and one other table occupied. Started badly with the drinks order when we were told I could not order an American Soft Drink as they had not been delivered, I asked for a Dr. Peppers which are available in most Supermarkets but they said they import theirs direct from the US???? Amended drinks order delivered and when we started to order our food we are then told we could not order any really spicy dishes as the Spice Delivery has not arrived????? When the waitress brought our food she had to ask us again what we ordered as she was not sure it was our food (remember only 2 tables occupied - in total 6 people). The food was of reasonable quality and in general we all enjoyed it. The waitress cleared the table and I requested the bill, when she returned with it I indicated my Credit card and she disappeared, I assumed to get the machine. After 10 minutes we decided to leave and pay at the bar, the waitress was standing talking to Customers in the bar area and one of them had to point out that we ware trying to pay and leave (no apology for this delay). Now to the atmosphere, the place is pretty basic and is located in a Conservatory over looking a main road, no curtains so headlight glaring in and dazzling the Diners. Now to Shikool's Bar loud music, and even louder Foul Mouthed Customers, which would not really encourage me to bring my family back here. I realise the owners cannot police every visitors behaviour, but when people are shouting and swearing at the top of their voice and you have what is billed as a family restaurant within feet of them it is not a pleasant experience. Have now given this place two tries and it just not hitting it's Goal of a Family Friendly US Smokehouse Restaurant. The menu has so much potential and would add greatly to the Hamilton eating scene, but this place is really not ticking any of the right boxes.

I have now been in twice and thought that the decor and setup is nice.... When I was seated, there was a slight wait until we received the menus which was fine. After the drinks order was taken I then ordered food.... I had the garlic bread followed by the Philly Steak Sandwich. It took about 20 minutes for the starter to be served and then around 35 mins after that for the main courses although as we were in a rush, asked that the main should be brought out when ready... The place wasn't really that busy either! There was 2 other tables who came in after us - however, were served before us! The Garlic bread starter was nice and I have to admit the main was tasty - However, the food was warm not hot which was a real disappointment. - As we were in a rush, I didn't ask for it to be heated up as we had waited a good bit as it is! As I said, the food did taste good and the portion size was again great. I had a pint of soft drink and I have to say, its defo not coke or pepsi that is used... For one starter, two mains and two soft drinks, It was just over £30 - It would be good and encourage me back sooner if there was a lunch set menu. Overall, I will go back however there is defo some improvements needed: () Length of time to serve food - Especially when it was really quite within the place - Waiting that length of time isn't acceptable. () Look at set menu at lunch time - A tad over priced. Turns out there was a buy one get one free on the Monday for Hot dogs, although my friend ordered a hotdog, we weren't told about this until we seen the sign on the way out - Again, disappointing. () Make sure food is hot not warm before serving Hoping after my next visit can post a more positive review!

We won a voucher and decided to go here after a rugby game. The welcome was nice and we were shown to a table straight away. After sitting for 10 mins or so a waitress asked if we wanted a food menu? Erm ..yes!! after ordering our waitress said that she was just finishing her shift and introduced us to the next waitress. I had to send my first drink back as it was flat second not great but at least there was bubbles. The new waitress appeared with two plates and asked if this was our food? we said yes but it turned out to be the other tables order! half of their table was finished by the time the two plates arrived. The food itself was disappointing very basic, though my husbands started was huge. The décor needs redone they have only moved there so Im sure that will come. I'm sorry but we wont be back.

Go with an empty stomach and a big appetite!! Having seen the place advertised for some time we decided to visit one night. Lovely staff made us feel welcome straight away. The menu had a great selection of american smokehouse cuisine. We ordered one of the many burgers and also the clawhammer hot dog (the smaller version of the man vs food pickaxe). We also ordered sides of the fries with sauces. One of the sauces we ordered had run out but the chef said he would make a new batch for us which was great. Food portions were huge. Even sharing between us we struggled to finish. But it was very tasty and cooked really well. Had to be rolled out of the place with our doggy bags!! They have moved since we visited but will defo be going to the new premmises. :)

I usually love this restaurant, the service is good, food is good, restaurant is a bit dated but clean, as I write this the restaurant has moved to new premises. My review is about last night. We knew it was the opening night and puppy's were inviting people to book in advance to prevent disappointment, So I tried to call them, and the phone kept giving the off the hook tone. 45 minutes I tried, no answer. Between me trying the phone I facebooked them to, to see if we could get a table, I pm'd them, only to get no answer there either I know they had seen my messages but as off the day after I have not heard anything, I had too very very up set kids here last night as they were told we were going out for t .. We live too far away just to chance coming in and not getting a table, we have never had a problem getting a table before but as we had been advised to call or Facebook ahead, that's what we did. I know that the phone was off the hook (accidentally) as friends off ours where there and were told it was off the hook. I do think this was very bad service, as a wee message to say yes or no was all I was looking for, I would never resort to Facebook to book a table normally, but as I said I could not get thru on phone and I was invited by pappys I kit add to Facebook them Very very unhappy and poor service. I did eat in the old restaurant a good few times, as I said at the top off this review, the staff are great with our two daughters and the food is always lovely, and service is great.

I'm a fan of man v food and all that on tv , yes man v food goid food that is not domd slop just piled on a plate of the mist fries you can find, try some nice burger pates or some good cuts of meat instead of whatever you guys are finding and pouring sauce over to disguise the the cuts of meat, had the tomahawk pathetic someone will need to threaten me with one to go again, better off just buying a bucket of kfc for the money, place be shut with in the year if doesn't get better quality cuts of meat .

First off, the waitress was nice and the food portions were big. That would be the only positive comment that I can share about this restaurant. The tacky décor didn't bother us as much. Very dark and found it difficult to read the menu unless you are seated next to the window during the day. I have been at this restaurant for lunch three times and I always order the Buffalo Wings with Pappy's hot sauce. I was never served the same thing, the first time around it was amazing hence the reason to go back the second time. The second time a few weeks later, I ordered the same thing but it was completely different, it was bland and barely a hint of "Pappy's hot sauce" and did not resemble what I was served on our first visit. Being to scared to send the food back(I know the horror stories of food being sent back) I let it slide and figured that maybe my partner and I should stick to restaurants that we know that do not have this issue. Now the third time around months later thinking Pappy's should have it figured out by now (we also thought that we should try give the business in our area a chance to thrive), I ordered the same thing and AGAIN something completely different arrives on my table. A hint of spicy and this time around it had a different coating. Being a great restaurant is being able to recreate the same dish over and over again with the same quality and same flavours regardless of who is in the kitchen. Also on this visit, my partner had ordered the Flamin' dog. It was labelled as spicy. My partner and I love super spicy food. Tabasco sauce is considered very mild for us. What he was served was inedible. He only took one small bite. You can't taste the hot dog, you can't taste the bun, all we tasted was the burn (I only tasted the sauce). We had to send it back and informed the staff that it was inedible (we were still charged and the staff didn't even bother to taste some of it to check if it was a bad batch, it was mostly untouched by my partner and there was plenty left). If something was sent back and the staff was told that it was inedible the chef(manager or even the waitress herself) would have done something to make sure it doesn't happen again. Clearly was not the case here. Now if it was served as a challenge it would have been somewhat acceptable, but what he was served was no where near enjoyable to eat. It is as if they never bothered to taste the food while they were figuring out what to put on their menu. I would say that it was an utter lack of consideration of what constitutes as edible food fit for a regular menu. Very hit and miss. Would not recommend.

Really lovely food, staff where friendly and has a great atmosphere! Would recommend and I would return. Amazing restaurant 😀

Love everything about it. Staff great, food awesome. Couldn't be betteric I'm honest. everything I've went I cannot complain at all.

Myself my partner and 11 month old daughter came for lunch after hearing others comment on how good it was we decided to give it a go.We were not disappointed. The waitress could not have been any more helpful. Very pleasant and spent time talking to our little girl. As previous reviews say the decor is out dated but I feel it adds to the places character and charm and the country music playing in the background had my little one dancing. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and would highly recommend pappys. We will be back!!!

My wife and I were really excited when we came across this sign during a walk through Hamilton. We decided to go for lunch.Firstly, we were left standing around for some time as the barman waited tables. The decor looked outdated (not fashionably so) and cheap. The entire seating area was dark and gloomy.After finally getting a table (the place was really quiet), we were handed menus. My wife and I struggled to read them as the light was so low and some bright spark had written them in a black cursive text against a mottled brown background.There was nothing on the menu that aligned this restaurant to it's brand or name. No smell of smoking meat! I ordered a burger and my wife ordered nothing. The burger was over priced for what I got and lacked the smoky flavor we had been expecting when we saw the sign.Our bill to an age to arrive and I had to resort to approaching the bar for assistance. Altogether a totally dissatisfying experience.We will not be going back there...

Been here twice now and can't find any fault (not that I was looking for one). Fantastic food, great service. Can't recommend it enough.

I was in for lunch this afternoon, greeted by a lovely gentleman who couldnt have been more helpful. In with my husband and two very young kids, my little boy was giving crayons and paper too keep him amused which he loved. Good range of food we have been before and I recommend the double barreled dawg. My husband got the special whole hog burger and loved it, the staff member seen my husband was feeding our youngest and took away his burger to keep it warm. Once he returned it he informed us that they replaced the whole meal free of charge even though there was food already eaten on the plate ... brilliant really wasn't expecting that. Great food, helpful staff and not to expensive, soo much food that we had to take some home. Really worth a visit.

Struggled to find somewhere to eat on a Monday night that wasn't a chain & hit lucky with Pappy's. Warm welcome & good value food. Okay the choices are pretty much burgers & dogs but they're good & the portion sizes are big - there's even Man vs Food sizes if you're really hungry! Overall a good experience & I'll be back the next time I'm in town

Place was pretty dark and empty when we arrived there was one "worker" on a phone who shouted the waiter when we came in to seat us which I thought was rude. Portions were massive but not amazing however the starters of mozzarella sticks and drunken chicken where lovely the main course and desert where a let down. One guy serving 6 tables which should b ok if he could prioritise waited an age for the bill and we had a voucher which the "manager" didn't seem to know what to do with and looked like it was our problem. You pay for ur drinks bill seperately which was stRange.Overall service could be a lot better as could the food. I certainly won't b returning

Recently popped into Pappy's for a late meal on a Sunday. (We'd actually tried to get a table for 6 at 8.07pm on Friday night, only to be told it turns back into a top-floor bar for Doc's and we'd missed the last sittings by 7 minutes)Firstly, the decor is quaint. I really liked it, but I can see why it may not be to everyones tastes. The waitress was SO nice, really helpful, full of enthusiasm and you could see she was actually happy to be at her work!I ordered the hot wings, my partner ordered the drunken chicken, and we both opted for a dip each, mine being the "Shut Up" sauce, hers being garlic mayo. My wings (actual FULL wings of chicken, and 5 of them no less) were HUGE, and I even said to the waitress some places wouldn't give you that much chicken for a MAIN meal! They were really tasty, the spicy sauce was delicious and they were coated in it which meant no dry bits :) the hand wipes were a necessity! My partners "drunken chicken" was delicious, proper fresh breast chicken meat and again, they didn't scrimp on the portion sizes.Our mains, a pulled pork baguette and the "Ragin' Cajun" chicken burger, were served quite quickly and were fresh, hot and tasty. Don't really know what else to say about them - they were definitely worth the price and we both thoroughly enjoyed them.The side of Mac'n'cheese we ordered was a wee bit on the powdery side (more cheese maybe?) and although we ordered onion rings too (We had NO idea how big the starters or mains were, and we quickly realised we were never going to manage any sides), the waitress asked if we wanted them in a take-away box, which we did, along with my partners Cajun fries, which she just couldn't finish.All in all, it was a meal which I felt was well worth it's price, in a room which, although some may see it as a disappointment, is what it is - a room above a pub - and the food was tasty, fresh and plenty of it.Will visit again, and will be leaving the starter to try a dessert next time! I am also quite disappointed due to the sheer size of the portions, I could only visit here once in a blue moon for a treat or else I would end up the size of a house!!!

Saw this place advertised and thought it sounded good.The fact its labeled a traditional smokehouse suggests it's freshly cooked traditional american food.It's actually an old pub with a few american flags scattered around serving wetherspoons quality food.I ordered nachos to start with. What I got was a plate of doritos with melted plastic cheese slices on top. Not even salsa or chile. My burger was OK but I could have got a much better burger for half the price from one of the chain places down the road and in much nicer surroundings.I had a Ferraro rocher cheese cake for desert which was really nice to be fair.I also can't fault the service as the waitress was very friendly and helpful.If they wanted to open an american theme place they could have at least got rid of the old pub decor and maybe a lick of paint.I wouldn't mind it being a bit rubbish if they werent so expensive.

I am just back from this " restaurant" with my family. I use the term " restaurant" very loosley; as it's actually a pub, the upstairs of Docs in Hamilton. No wine list. I asked for this and a bar maid, (* not wsitress*) brought me a bottle of white or rose wine. No choice. What about a red? She checked and brought a red. Yippee. Starters were ok. We went for the combo and extra wings. Had so much better for the same price elsewhere in better surroundings with a tablemat and clean table???? Give the table a wipe please... Forgot to add, when we sat down there was no table mats and remnants of the previous diners dinner under our table. Not nice. Main of 10 oz of sirloin steak was pretty poor. Definitely not 10 oz and not tender. My dad struggled to chew his. Mine was very cold. I ordered rare but in the middle it was very cold. Outside too. I ate it as we had waited 1 hour 20 minutes by this time! My kids enjoyed there's but they love burgers and McDonald's food? To be honest there was no ambience. No personality and it was not the most inviting. Over priced nonsense. No lemon for the salad. None left? No rice at the weekend? A long waiting time for what we eventually received. This place isn't burger meets bun; yet prices the same. Was awfulllllll and we will not be back im afraid.

Have just came here for a family dinner. We had been recommended pappys by my dads work colleague. My dad had the double dawg and ny mum had the ragin cajun chicken burger. My partner had the double daisy and I had the juicy lucy. All come with fries unless you want salad. you wait for your dinner but that means you know everything is freshly made. Every single one of us ate the ginormous portions! Absolutely delicious! We then had a pudding. My dad had the pancakes, my man had a vanilla milkshake and I had the special of white chocolate cheesecake. Very tasty. Great friendly staff, very accomadating

Went to Pappy's American Smokehouse in Hamilton on Sunday, when you walk in it's very dark with a few American flags on the walls. The girl behind the bar was on her mobile phone which isn't nice to see especially since there was only one man waiting on around 12/13 tables at the time. The waiter took us to our seats and asked what we wanted to drink, drinks took about 10 mins to reach our table and a further 10/15 minutes to order our food. The food didn't take that long to come and all 4 of us were amazed at the portion sizes! The Beast Burger - The burger itself was nice although the BBQ pulled pork was very sickening and the chips are nothing special either. The Brunch Burger - a burger with cheese, egg and hash brown on top. Two of us had this. The hash brown was very spicy and tasted horrible and we both didn't eat it. Chips were dry and soggy.Again not anything special.BBQ Pulled Pork Baguette - As stated above the BBQ pulled pork was very sickening and most of it if not all of it was taken off the baguette because it was so sickening. This meal was served with Cajun fries which again were nothing special.I wouldn't recommend Pappy's and I certainly won't be returning.

Dropped in for a bit of lunch with one of my friends after the place we were heading to was closed. Pleasantly surprised by this place. Service was excellent and went for the "whole hog' burger which was one of the specials. Was a good burger and a good size portion, no complaints. Not on a par with some of the new Glasgow places (Jacker, Buddys etc) but very good all the same.

This is an absolutely fantastic new restaurant. The food is absolutely amazing! They aren't shy on the portion sizes either. They do not want you to leave the place still hungry. The waitress who served us really couldn't have been anymore pleasant or helpful!! The service she provided was second to none! I would thoroughly thou roughly recommend this restaurant, and I will most definitely be a regular customer here!

Been to Pappy's Hamilton more times than I'd want to admit and I'm addicted to the place! By far the best place to eat in Hamilton and trust me I've tried them all! Go for the Beast burger, its best value in my opinion but ask about the specials too. The whole hog burger (if its on) is to die for! And the cheesecakes! Can't recommend Pappy's highly enough. Go. Enjoy!

Dropped in for Sunday Lunch, quite quiet, but at the moment its word of mouth for this place as the on street signage is not great (it behind Doherty's Pub).First impression was not good, when you walk in it does not look anything like an American Smokehouse. It looks more like a jaded restaurant with 4 American Flags on the walls.However the place is saved by the very warm welcome from the staff, who seated us quickly, brought the menus and took our drinks order. it took us a while to decide as its a very tempting list.We ordered with some advice for the attentive staff and when the food arrived none of us were disappointed. We all 4 chose different meals and they all looked great (beware the portions are large).My Double Barrel Dawg with Chillie and Cajun Fries was amazing and my wife's Porkapino was fabulous.2 of our party were talked into Sweets which were delicious (4 mains, 2 sweets & 4 soft drinks £51.00).Well worth a visit, but come on Pappys get rid of the morbid Décor and give us a taste of the USA.
