Papilio Beckenham in Bromley

Waiting for food was long for no obvious reason, took them around 30 mins. Not to mention I had to ask them for an update when we were 25 mins through, with a little kid! They also forgot about my cocktail which should've been brought to me with a glass of wine for my partner. I didn't ask at that moment and waited 10 min more until I had to remind them about the ordered drink... I remember very well repeating my order to the waitress at least twice! (she didn't even confidently bother to write it down). On top of that they didn't bring my well ordered starter until I had to request it when I had the long awaited main dish (30 mins as mentioned earlier). Eventually, only one waitress was helpful and it was her second day at this restaurant... She didn't know some menu details yet but she was always happy to help and was surprised why our wait was so long... The original waitress never came back to us. No one even bothered to ask if the food was ok, etc. Awful service.

I went to this restaurant for work Christmas Party. I am on a gluten-free diet and this was communicated twice with the restaurant prior to that night. Their service was very poor which can be understandable when busy. My starter came 20 minutes after everyone else on our table finished theirs and my main course came half hour into others having their food with gluten contained gravy on it! I double checked with them before having my food and was told it had gluten and they changed my food to one without gluten which was 1/3 of the original portion in size. I question the size and their service and a lady came to me and said she didn't care f their service was bad as their service was good considering how busy they were! At that point everyone finished their food and I said I didn't want to eat anymore. As I was sitting there I started writing the review as I knew I would eave it off if left for later not knowing they would see the review immediately after published. The manager who was a very impolite guy came to me and said " GET OUT OF HERE,GET LOST!" I did leave the restaurant in tears and had a terrible night there. My husband said I should have called the police for their behaviour as all I done was writing a review stating the facts I saw there but I was too shaken to think. My husband and I are taking this further and won't let him carry on working as if nothing has happened.

I visited this establishment that I’ve been wanting to try out for quite some time. They were the only restaurant I could find in Beckenham that sold a Tomahawk steak so I had a business lunch there with my colleague and we had Mac and cheese for starters and salt and pepper squid. Both of these were perfectly cooked very fresh and hot with excellent flavours and super presentation particularly for the squid. We treated ourselves to the 700 g Black Angus Tomahawk steak requesting a medium rare and it did not disappoint. It was cooked on the charcoal grill giving it immense flavour but was also seasoned perfectly and cooked Exactly as it should’ve been. Accompaniment of French fries which were clearly produced from fresh potatoes slightly seasoned giving an excellent experience. We had a brandy peppercorn sauce and a pecorino mushroom sauce. These were both very good. It feels like a five star experience and will definitely not disappoint. Entire bill, including service charge plus one Diet Coke and a large bottle of sparkling San Pellegrino came to just over £99 Which for the quality received was good value. There are less expensive lunchtime and dinner set menus with a two course lunch at £18.95 and a three course lunch at £23.95. The manager was helpful and friendly and both the waitresses were very attentive and professional while being friendly at the same time . I highly recommend this establishment if you want good quality fresh tasty food in a comfortable in atmospheric environment. To be charged £100.00 per person with no prior warning when making reservation or on the website, had we of know we would never have gone, listed in small print on the limited set menu, so was still unaware until our bill was received, we are not fortunate to be able to afford this and especially for such an adequate meal, my girlfriend had better prior to New Year, this price certainly wasn't justified. The service although friendly was poor, we were kept waiting for our table and on a number of other occasions. We'll definitely never return and certainly never recommend, of all the lovely restaurants in Beckenham we sadly choose this greedy place, thank you for spoiling our New Year!!!!

2nd year for our work Christmas party and yet again it did not disappoint. Staff, food and atmosphere were amazing. Cannot recommend enough. Thanks Tash and team for yet another fantastic evening 😊

Good food for a Sunday afternoon

I visited here with family, for my Dads birthday. The staff, food and service were absolutely wonderful. The restaurant was very busy (Sunday 24th Nov) and indeed our table was given a little extension to fit all 7 of us in, but we were more than happy once all settled in. The staff who served us were first class and made sure everything was perfect. I highly recommend this beautiful little venue and hope I can visit again soon.

Just had Sunday dinner in Papilio. The food was great. Meat cooked well, veggies and Yorkshire pudding were good. I would recommend Papilio.

Booked a table last minute on a Saturday evening and was so glad they had availability. Gorgeous setting, friendly, funny and professional staff, great service and absolutely delicious food! I was so happy to see monkfish on the menu and it was superb. My dad loved the blackened cod and said the lime butter gave it a really great flavour. My dad’s friend had the ahi tuna said it was cooked to perfection. We ate almost in silence because the food was too good to talk! We all agreed we’d be back again as there is such a variety on the menu!

Delicious food, great service, beautiful ambience, definitely recommend 😋 We had smoked salmon and skewer chicken for starters; Fillet Salmon and Belly of Pork for mains, quality and potions were great. We did not have alcohol.

A lovely Sunday out with the family and our first visit to PAPILIO - A fabulous decision. Four of us chose the 3 course roast menu and one had steak. All absolutely delicious and generous portions too. My son recommends the Belly Pork - sensational! And all the staff were so friendly, attentive and in fact the best I've come across in a long time! Thank you PAPILIO.

We visited Papilio on a sunny day for a quick lunch and decided to stay outside. The food was delicious, service prompt, and the whole experience exceeded our expectations. They had some lunch deals as well, offering good value for money. I had a brief look around during my trip to the restroom, and the interior decor is beautiful. The only downside was the dessert—the cheesecake looked and tasted store-bought. It appeared too perfect and tasted a bit bland. Nevertheless, we will definitely be back to experience dining indoors. Keep up the good work! 👍🏻

Visited last night with 4 friends for the first time. Was blown away by the service and the food. Sent our compliments to the chef but wanted to leave a review as well. Shout out to the two brunette ladies serving us!

A nice place for a girl's night out: not much else. Don't know what food some of you ate : wasn't what we ate. The prawns in the starter were strangely dried out : and the smoked fish starter was all out of a packet. Yes, the sea bream main course wasn't bad at all: but then we shared a plate of "churros" , Spanish fried batter sticks dipped in liquid chocolate (another Beckenham restaurant does this very well but this was simply awful, with caramel replacing the liquid chocolate and far too much sugar dusted on to the plate). Wines are not bad but very pricey (10 GBP for a 175 ml. glass of Malbec). There are much better places in Beckenham .... unless it's a girls' night out

After seeing some good reviews about this restaurant I was excited to try it, but unfortunately it disappointed!! For starters I had the prawn cocktail, which was smothered in way to much sauce, you could barely find the small prawns. I then had the Sunday roast. The roast was not warm at all, the Yorkshire pudding was burnt so bad you could crumble it to flakes (video attached) the veg was soggy and the meat was very dry, had no flavour, was not cooked well and was way too chewy. Dogs are allowed in the restaurant and the guy working behind the bar was touching and playing with a dog and then serving at the bar, handling the fruit without washing his hands. Put me off getting a drink and had to eat my meal without a drink which was disappointing as I was looking forward to a glass of wine with my meal. Very unhygienic and overall a very disappointing visit to the restaurant. Such a shame as it is a nice restaurant, with a great ambiance and a warm vibe. The service was good and the staff were nice and friendly too. Just a real shame about the food!

First time visiting and enjoyed the atmosphere with friendly and welcoming staff. I ordered from two course menu and found the food nice and tasty 😋. I would recommend and will revisit.

Group of 8 went for lunch. Made very welcome and service was attentive throughout. Everyone enjoyed their meal choices from the a la carte. Most Had 3 courses and so with wine it was good value. Recommended.

Visited today with my mum for afternoon tea for mother's Day. The service was fantastic the food was plentiful and excellent and the price was good value for money. We thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. I will definitely revisit this restaurant and my mum said she would love to go there again.

Wow this place is amazing. We came here for afternoon tea. I didn't expect much but we were thrilled as the food was fresh and delicious. We were offered extra sandwiches and the cocktails were lovely. The venue is beautiful and spacious. Will definitely come here again. I recommend. Visiting again in Feb 2024 - cannot fault this place. Service is excellent. Food is delicious. Great value for money and the atmosphere is brilliant. Will visit again thank you.

Went for Sunday lunch today and can honestly say the food was top notch, so tasty gravy was lovely. Opted for 2 course costing £20 (good price) And for dessert I had honeycomb cheesecake highly recommend

This is the second time I have visited and have to say that the service from the staff is excellent. Very attentive, responsive and friendly. The food is excellent; very tasty, fresh and reasonably priced. Atmosphere is good; not overy loud but buzzy. Will definitely visit again.

I had a group booking for two course bottomless brunch. This included a main dish and dessert. I had the 5oz steak, eggs and chips. This is a lovely and vibrant restaurant in the heart of the high street. The brunch cost £45+service charge for two hours of free flowing Prosecco and juice mixers. Overall this was a good experience, the food was good and desert very delicious.

There were a few groups in the restaurant, a couple were having afternoon tea, another group were on a work Christmas party. We were celebrating a family birthday. The decor was seasonally on point and added to the overall atmosphere. The service was impeccable, and the food was great (so much so we have added this to our keeper list).

Brilliant food, lovely service with a smile and considering it was busy , no wait time for drinks and food. Have been recommending ever since and will be back soon.

First visit with grandchildren today. 4 adults and 2 children. Staff couldn’t have been more attentive and the food and ambiance was superb. We will return very soon! Thank you!

Me and a friend visited here for the set lunch menu today (Saturday) We had the squid for starters, flat iron steak for main and the churros for dessert and we could not fault any of it! It was all so delicious we did not leave a single thing on the plates. The cocktails (alcoholic & non alcoholic) were spot on. The staff were so courteous and attentive. We sat outside to finish our drinks to which they put the heaters on for us and gave us a blanket each. Could not reccomend this place enough. We will definitely be returning.

Had a lovely time at papillo for my birthday, food wasn't rhe best but previously it has been better and they didn't have the right food after ordering but they accommodated for what they could. Lovely atmosphere with lovely music, good energy and nice vibes. Drinks are good too!

There was a group of 11 women for prosecco afternoon tea. The customer experience was great from booking to paying the bill. The caked and sandwiches were delicious and the bottomless prosecco was flowing. We didn't feel rushed to go after the 2 hours and had a great time. I'd def recommend Papilio for big group bookings.

A lovely building with lovely staff. Massive let down by the food which is basic, of average quality and not at all creative. Not a fan of the decor either. Plastic flowers!? I'd suggest bringing a creative menu and this place would be one of the best in the area.

Good salmon starter. My chicken was tough in the burger. Good size portions.

I'd give a 3.5 if I could I had two dishes; to start the avocado on toast which was nice, but had a lot of raw onion. Something I do enjoy but even for me it was overpowering and I think many would think was far too much. The main was the vegan tortellini. This was nice, but missing a little something to make it great. Adding a lot of salt and pepper improved the meal, and the candied tomatoes were very nice. I still left feeling hungry. The atmosphere was very nice and nice decor. The mushroom pot sounds intriguing but I won't rush back. Also worth a mention that there was a vegan pasta mentioned in the menu outside, but couldn't see this on the menu at the table. Quite disappointing.

Such a shame that the meal was nothing like the rave reviews others have given. We had strips of plastic in a starter then waited 50 minutes for the mains. My burger, which came without chips, was crusty dry and burnt. I took one bite and put my plate at the end of the table to show it wasnt edible. It wasn't noticed until they cleared the table. After which someone knelt on my chair to wipe the table across me. Amazingly we were asked to return. Nice looking place though, not too busy and the loud themed music wasnt too bad. Chips and onion rings were good.

I came here for the two course meal. I ordered chicken skewers for starter and salmon for main. The chicken was too dry, but I let it pass. The salmon came still raw in the middle. It wasn't cooked properly throughout. I complained and got a second dish and a free red wine. The second time the salmon came it was still not cooked thoroughly in the middle. The manager then came and gave me a talk about how salmon can be eaten raw like beef. Actually maybe true, but it wasn't supposed to be raw. I ordered cooked salmon, learn to cook it properly. The two course main was £14.95 I think but portions rather small, besides the raw salmon. Plus they added a 10% service charge which bought the bill to over £16. Thanks for the wine, but kind of feel I was tricked into eating raw salmon, cooked on the outside, raw in the middle.....It's not sushi OK? Disappointing. Lucky I didn't get sick.

Papilio is up there with London restaurants! Amazing food, the menu has something for everyone. The restaurant location is perfect and attracts the right clientele in Beckenham. The staff are so attentive and the cocktails are 10/10. Highly recommend a visit!

Great restaurant. Some fun cocktails, these were a little on the expensive side but fun for the occasion. There was something on the menu for everyone. We'll cooked and staff are very nice. 10% service charged added but you don't mind when they are as good as they are. Makes me happy that they are all getting something for their great service

Perfect for a date. We were wandering down from the station looking for somewhere to eat and Papilio was just right - really nice food, cocktails and ambience. The tables were nicely spaced so we felt we had our privacy. The staff were great and we felt we had time to relax and enjoy our conversation and food. Nice range on the set menus encouraged us to go for the full 3 courses. Definitely happy to recommend.

The 2 dishes I had Saturday night were just salt not good for a diabetic should have some sort of warning on menu

Food is good but slightly let down by some fussy points - plates are an odd shape and not flat (which is odd) so they spin and cutlery slides from the lip of the plate into your food - bonket seating is quite far from the table so you hunch over - no where to put coats (or it wasn't offered) so we had damp coats squished in beside us - no baby change (not a legal requirement) and toilets are very small to change in the floor. They offered me to just change on an unoccupied table...but no one wants to see what just happened while they're eating!

Had a frustrating experience initially with a problematic booking but the response from Papilio was first class and they have certainly made amends - we'll definitely be back!

What a fabulous meal. Starters ... king prawns & prosciutto were really good. Seabass was superb.... just with a house salad and saute potatoes. We finished with cheesecake and Nutella dessert Every dish was delicious Highly recommend

There were nine of our women that lunch there, we waited a long time before any seen to ours. The wines were not up to our standards. They had to be water and tonic and still didn't taste any nicer, not one come and sorry for the delay and was overcharged on our bill
