Pretty nice. Actually really nice. Good portion sizes. Reasonable prices and friendly service. Staff work hard to keep the tables cleaned and the food came out quickly.

They advertise as the best fish and chips in Britain. A bold statement, but a correct one. The haddock was perfect, crisp and flaky. No bones. Great.chips and the best curry sauce ever!!! There is a lot of choice in Blackpool but this would be tough to beat

Very friendly staff, excellent service, the fish is a million times better than anyone else, Inc ha**y ra**dens. This will be our new place when visiting Blackpool. Shout out to Paulo, excellent staff member and a credit to your company.

Both myself and my wife had the large cod and chips, we both enjoyed them the fish was delicious and the batter was lovely and crispy, service was quick and efficient and the staff were friendly and pleasant, will definitely be returning, best fish and chips in Blackpool.

Quite nice dining experience but it looked like alot of the staff had called in sick so staff were pretty stressed. All In all pretty decent.

We were very pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the prices were for what we felt was a rather grand setting. Staff really friendly and loved the menus which are like a newspaper. Food was excellent with a good selection of items and great drinks menu too. A special mention for Carolann our lovely waitress who looked after us really well and was so good with our Grandson.

Visited here last year and it was not so good gave it another try this year and they’ve turned the place around my partner and I had the large fish and chips my partner really enjoyed it was the best fish he had tasted in a long time. The manager really looked after us from start to finish did a great job .The restaurant is cleaner than last year even the toilets . It was my partner birthday and he really enjoyed his lunch .keep it up Papa’s.This is our opinion everyone has a different opinion

Had scampi and it was disgusting also had salad and it was all brown , wouldn’t go back there

Firstly this was a takeaway order and took ages and when it arrived the portions were massive but definitely quantity over quality as the fish was soaked with grease which left a nasty taste and the chips were also soggy and tasteless .the prices were reasonable for portion size just not the best

Came across this and the food looked good in the window, so we went in. Lucky us, loved the set up and the food. Huge fish et chips and a lovely steak pie. Yum, yum. 😋

We came for a family evening meal. Our experience last year wasn’t great, but we decided to give it another chance due to our good experiences in the past. This time, the food was good. We ordered the seafood platter and opted for the fried fish. The portion sizes are massive compared to any other fish and chips restaurants. However, the fish and chips were very oily this time, which is why I rated it 4 stars. Regarding the curry sauce, I believe the best one is definitely from Harry Ramsden’s. I wouldn’t call Pappa’s curry sauce a true curry sauce; it’s more like a sweet masala barbecue ketchup. Drinks were really nice, and I’ve attached pictures. Overall, the atmosphere is pleasant, the staff are really good, and the fish is flaky with large portions. They definitely deserve to be in the top 3 in Blackpool. You definitely won’t regret going there. Papa’s extra large fish( Big Papa) and chips is only for people who can eat two meals at a time, best for sharing.

My first visit and I will certainly go again. Carolann gave me a warm welcome and showed me to my table. The food was excellent: tasty and well cooked. It is a great restaurant which I thoroughly recommend.

Really nice food. Went for the large cod with a side of mushy peas and also ordered a kids scampi chips. Donuts for dessert also lovely. Main food arrived quickly and was very tasty. Service was lovely albeit a little slow in that there was a delay in drinks and dessert arriving.

Food average....service exceptionally poor and stomach cramps the day after. Swerve this dodgy chippy, and save money and illness.

Love me a bit of Papa’s! Always return to this spot any time I’m in Blackpool - she hits the sweet spot of Fish and Chips for me. Everything you could ask for - and the service is stellar and friendly. Fish is delicious, chips and curry sauce are (predictably) heaven, and you get a T-Shirt if you brave the Big Papa (we did). Only problem is all the leftovers! She’s huge! Paired with the cute addition of menus printed on newspaper with all Papa’s fascinating history and philosophies - this Chippy is a favourite and a total delight to introduce my friends to, every time.

The best chips & fish I’ve had in Blackpool, Caroline and Tanya were both amazing, both very friendly & polite. Great customer service.

Ok, honestly gonna tell this as it went down. Ordered food and drinks no problem. They bought out the main food, then said sides and condiments will follow. Husband didn't hear this and after a bit waiting another server walked by asking if everything was okay. Husband Hungary now and replied just want what I ordered. Second server rightly states I don't know what you ordered but will check. She must have gone to the manager we were not happy and the next minute we get extra serving of peas and sause with apologies. How good was this manager to deescalate a customer. This is an honest review, my husband was grumpy but they deescalated the situation. Costed him a tip and learned not to be grumpy. Food was lovely no fat on your plate and chips delicious. Well done and hope we can come again with not a grumpy husband.

chips re heated without a doubt, and nearly cold, cheeseburger was Stone cold, food could have been better if food was hot, think the chef is lucky to haveca job. bar staff and waiting staff, nice friendly people. place needs a new chef 100%

Disappointed with the XL fish as it came as two small pieces therefore it had a ton of batter around it... Chips on the other hand were magnificent

Given the reviews on TripAdvisor and the plaque on the door endorsed by the BBC as being the best Fish & Chips in Blackpool we decided to give it a whirl! Easy ordering system and staff seemed friendly. We ordered a small Fish, Chips and Mushy Peas and the same again in a Medium together with a Coke and a Beer. Portions were plentiful and the food looked really appetising with crispy batter and lemon on the fish. Taste wise the Fish & Chips were absolutely tasteless leaving a horrid taste of fat in your mouth! The fish was greasy which was a shame as the cod inside the batter was chunky piece and would have been beautiful if it hadn’t of been overcooked and dry! Mushy peas were nice and did have flavour although the Coke was mainly soda water! Overall not a pleasant evening meal what bit we actually ate and the fat repeated on us for most of the night!

The take away part to Papa's is the best value fish & chips I've ever ever had! Prices are so reasonable it's untrue, huge fish an massive portion of chips! Well worth a visit .. keep walking past Harry Ramsdens lol an cross over to Papas you won't be disappointed..

Went yesterday. The fish was amazing. All food freshly cooked and our server Carol Anne was superb

Ordered was served wrong first time. Second time the chips were very hard and cold. Server said they had new lights in hot hold which he thort was over cooking them. Third time wasn't much better. First time going papas wont be back

Fish time here, as I've heard good reviews. Well it wasn't great, Scampi had no taste and seemed to be shop brought. Chips were ok. Coffee/latte was very strong. Cod was ok. My son had nuggets and said they were ok. Curry was delicious though

You get shown to your table then have to order the food at a central bar yourself. There was one guy, taking orders and pouring drinks, took me about 25 minutes to order. The only cutlery that's was available looked used , had to ask for some clean . The food arrived about 15 minutes after the order and it was really nice, medium haddock was ample Overall it was a nice meal but the ordering process was poor on the day , it didn't even appear that busy, there were many spare tables.

Done the big daddy fish challenge took me bout 10 minutes.. fish was amazing and chips. Get 2 large haddock in batter and loads of chips. Won t shirt.. had to have a long kip after lol was fairly hard.

Service was friendly and efficient, staff had a great sense of humour. Very clean and tidy. You could see staff cleaning constantly between serving customers.

Menu is done as a newspaper.. Cute... We had a lovely traditional fish and chip meal with tasty sage potato thing and battered sausage. Cocktails were yummy too.

Unfortunately we went in at the end of service, staff were pleasant not many customers which didn't help the atmosphere and wasn't their fault. The menu presentation was really unusual with a goodly range of offerings but we obviously had the last chips which were quite hard, we had to leave them, fish was fine.

Went hear Wednesday evening, girl that took us to our seat didn't seem to want us there, no communication, face like thunder as if we were imposing on her. Fish was scrappy and not much fish in it and chips were just warm, didn't see any staff around, had to go looking for staff to order dessert as wasn't waiting any longer. For what we paid, 5 meals, certainly not cheap, would not go again nor would I recommend it. Put a dampner on our evening we were looking forward to and wasted a lot of money as it was not cheap.

Nice fish and chips, good sized portion, I had curry sauce on the side and a nice pot of tea. Ate the lot and really enjoyed it. Oddly on a Tuesday afternoon I was the only customer in the place.

Customer service not good enough really. Good food as normal but not a great atmosphere and staff didn't look like they wanted to be there.

If i could write 0* i would. Absolutely awful experience!! We went into store at 5.30 after a lovely day, we were in abit of a rush so headed to the take away rather than the restaurant. The man on the till served us we paid and waited.. 15 mins went by and other people were coming in getting food and leaving.. We asked if it would be long we were told just a moment, the man disappeared for quite some time and there was only one other member of staff with curly hair clattering around behind the scenes but not doing anything about our order.. The man who served us returned and we pointed out we had been waiting for 30 minutes at this point it was 6:05 he replied 'well I'm waiting on him doing the fish' no apology or decent customer service when pointing out we had been waiting a long time with two small children, he finally started opening boxes and shouted loudly at the other staff member 'you haven't done the fish!' they then started having an argument behind the counter which was very unprofessional and inappropriate! He opened the chip draw gave us 3 boxes of chips which were absolutely not fresh as nothing had been cooking while we stood waiting 40 minutes by this point, he put the 3 fish in boxes which had been sat in the oven box since we had been there waiting it was absolutely not fresh and he practically threw it at us as we obviously were not impressed we just stated that it had been a very long time and that fish had been there since we came, his reply was 'well its here now isn't it' and he turned away and off he went, no apology or anything. The fish and chips were cold, stale, hard, very dried out, the customer service was absolutely awful and all in all a really disappointing and horrible experience - £30 wasted, we couldn't eat almost all of the food as it was just horrid so it went in the bin so we haf hungry kids and a 2 hour car journey home after an hour waiting for an awful stale meal. I never write reviews but this felt necessary as it was such a shame after we were looking forward to it all day before we headed home.

Sorry but that was worst fish and chips in last few years. Dont know about restaurant but we wait 30min in takeaway bit, only guy working. Chips hard, fish inside good but batter brown and hard. Dont know if they got bad day or old oil but it was terrible. Check your box before you leave.

Looking at the entrance of this place, the first thing you see a big blue plaque saying 'Officially Britain's Best Fish & Chips' BBC award, so my expectations were high. Upon entering the place was completely empty, understandable as it was out of season, but it was lunch time, you'd wonder why they stay open if there is no trade?. We were sat in the window (I think to entice other customers) all the tables had that tacky unclean feel and the tops showed a high level of wear which makes the place look tired and overdue a refit. There is no table service so you have to order at the bar and pay in advance of your meal. Needless to say this is not a place you go for a cheap bite to eat, the prices are premium. The food and drink arrived within good time, and the portion sizes are huge, no exaggeration, the fish batter was extremely crisp, with the fish being of good quality. The chips however were a bit of a mixed bag, the flavour wasnt too bad, but they seamed dry, almost like they had either been under or over fried, or possibly the potato itself, it was hard to put my finger on what was up with them, I opted for garden peas and they were like bullets, I know some places serve al dente but these were like uncooked chick peas, couldn't eat them. Also the tartar sauce was one of the worse I've tasted in a long time, reminded me of the stuff that comes out the 10lt catering drum. So overall this wasnt the best fish and chips I've ever tasted, indeed it would struggle to make the top 10, but it was an acceptable meal with the fish & batter being the highlight. Toilets in here smell like toilets (musky), I am always concerned about restaurant toilets that don't smell fresh and clean, lack of cleanliness here, were else does hygiene fail? Hard to review the staff as it seam to be only this one dear old lady rushing backwards and forwards while the younger and probably more able staff chatted amongst themselves at the back of the restaurant, but she was very kind, you really should help her.

The worst chips I've had from a chip shop! Firstly the order was taken incorrectly which my husband noticed on the receipt, he was overcharged by £5 for a completely different meal. The refund was given but the order wasn't changed with the kitchen so the wrong meal arrived. By the time my husbands meal had come, I was done with my food. We were also charged for an extra gravy that we did not order, nor did we receieve, I said on many occasions we have been charged for it and need a refund and the receipt was taken away from us and no refund given. The chips were absolutely vile, hard cardboard looking chips, not enjoyable at all. No check backs as there were only 2 members of staff working the front and it was super busy. I'm very surprised they have a 5 on their hygiene rating after seeing the way the tables were being cleaned, all of the crumbs were just being wiped onto the floor, it was disgusting. Would never ever return. If you want to get overcharged, ripped off and eat horrible chip shop food, go here!

Lovely a different sort of batter here i liked it. Wheelchair access on side. Just ask them to open it up if closed. They are helpful and will help you out.

Not good, we had cod and chips x 2 but my partner couldn’t eat her fish because it tasted like cheese. We looked it up and when fish is off it tastes and smells like cheese! The chips although looked good, we’re hard and dry. Plenty of other chip shops around the area, so avoid this one.

Young man at the bar was pleasant. Fish and chips came out and was just warm and mushy peas was cold . We wasn’t approach to ask if everything was ok. But sorry won’t be returning

It was awful as the batter on the fish was rock hard. Think oil needed changing. Chips were rock hard and mushy peas never arrived. We visited 13/05/24 and we ate in. Staff were lovely though. Restaurant was empty and that should have been a warning to us. Blackpool never again unless you are good at persuading me otherwise.

This was my first visit to Papa's and I wasn't disappointed.The restaurant is very pleasant and we sat in the window which was good for the view. The menu is on a newspaper which I thought was really clever. The food and service were excellent. I will definitely go back for another visit.

Worse fish and chips i have ever eaten. Fish was too dry and batter had absorbed a lot oil. Mayonaise was tasting like oil and ketchup was too sour. Staff were good but a smile could have gone a long way plus i had a wheelchair. A staff at the door saw me coming and failed to direct me to the ramp. Atmosphere was good.

Terrible! So stupid service. We came at 20:40, had been waiting for 3 min, one old lady said to us to “ just one second”, and she talked to a young girl. Then they turned to us and said “no sit in anymore”. 20.46( especially we saw a guy came before us and sat down!!) There is not informed on google map and they rejected us so arrogantly.

The food was okay but it took them 20% service charge and more than 20 minutes to get us six lemon slices and five ketchup instead of the tartar sauce we asked for. I think it’s been spoiled by the recommendation of BBC.

We visited here having had a take out on a previous visit. The restaurant was quiet maybe only 10 tables taken. We waited about 20 minutes for 2 x fish and chips When it arrived the chips were overdone and to be honest I do not think they were freshly made at all, they were dry and tasteless and the fish wasn't much better. Cheap nasty tomato sauce really? Eating in a restaurant I would expect proper Heniz ketchup I should have complained at the beginning but I didn't and we were given a refund for 1 x chips portion as we had eaten some anyway we will not be back or recommending to anyone

CLOSED EARLY!!! Takeaway is supposed to be open until 10pm but was already closed by 9:20pm. Poor customer service when querying why with the staff as well. There were also other potential customers trying to get food but were also turned away because the staff wanted to finish early. Appalling!

It looked better than what it was. The chips were mostly hard and the batter underneath was quite soggy. The music was extremely loud which made having a conversation difficult

Waited a long time at the bar to be served. Eventually was able to order scampi and chips and chicken and chips. You have to pay upfront. The meals came out quickly. Rock hard scampi and sad looking cold chips. Chicken extremely dry. Pretty much inedible all in all. Was offered ice-cream by way of a sorry by the grinning head waiter. No thanks. Couldn't wait to get out of there

Fish & chips wasn't anything that'll blow your underpants away. It was average at best the batter was overly crispy and the fish so flaky I couldn't even manage to get some on the fork but overall, it was nice food.

We got Fish and Chips to have for a quick tea.....sorry we did. Fish was crispy but the chips....the Crematorium would not have fried them as much. They were like nails. So, whoever burnt the chips this afternoon ...... is not a cook.

The fish is dry, tasteless. The fries are overbaked and not good. I ordered coleslaw. This is a complete misunderstanding. Practically only cabbage, full of tasteless sauce. Cold. Not good. Dirty table. I had to ask for cleaning. There were ready-made cutlery on the dirty table, so it was already prepared for the guests. I do not recommend. I was disappointed by the description.

Feels like it could be a really nice place. Service (despite not being at all busy) was very slow. Chips were dried out and cold when they arrived. We were there at 9pm, according to the opening times it was still open for another hour. However, it felt like they were closing up. Staff were paying more attention to cleaning up than to taking/delivering orders

Went In here this early afternoon and I got a medium Haddock Chips with Curry sauce a pint of coke and 2 scoops off Ice Cream. It come too just under £17. The young chap Harvey who brought me my food was very polite and helpful. The Restaurant was very well air conditioned which Is very important on a very hot day. I have been here In the past several times, I will return again soon.

The male sever with the glasses totally useless and his attitude sucked ... Not even going to review the food order 😔 would I recommend definitely not Waste of a £100

Went here with my family and was not disappointed.beautiful fish and chips and plenty of options to suit all restrictions for people. The battered halloumi was to die for with the drizzle of honey on top to add that sweetness to it. If your visiting Blackpool this is a must try 😯

First visit here. 4 peeps. One vegan. One American. Two normal 😂. I chose this spot for the vegan menu. Got a free pot of tea for my birthday. Chips were too dry for me but pie was good. Full bar. Jade was a star. Huge place. Newspaper menus were cute, but wasteful? Or not? My US friend requested mustard but there wasn't any. Did I mention Jade rocked? Thank you.

I have eaten in the restaurant before and it was excellent. Tonight I tried the take away. I found it very disappointing. The fish was much bigger than expected and the peas were ok. That’s it for positives. The place was hardly busy yet there were empty gravy containers and sauce packets littering the counter. The range looked like the glass hadn’t been cleaned for a week and there were chips all over the flooor on the staff side of the counter. We ordered fish and chips, sausage and chips, nuggets and chips and two spam fritters. We waited nearly 30 minutes for the food to come out. The chips were luke warm and obviously refried. They were tough and rubbery. The nuggets were also refried. The sausage was small and the fish overcooked and dry. At the last minute we were told they had no spam fritters and given a refund for their cost. To be fair we were offered freshly cooked chips when we pointed out they weren’t hot but, being hungry and having waited so long already, we opted not to wait around another half hour. All in all a very disappointing experience. I have seen positive reviews so all I can say is it is hit and miss what you get.

Batter was tastless and greasy. Large cod when batter removed was amazing. Small hake struggled to find the fish at all. Was mostly batter. I had large cod and salad. Took batter off and enjoyed.

The fish was fantastic can't beat it. But have to say on this occasion the chips were over cooked and not very nice.

I'm not usually one to comment but this is one for my Coeliac/Gluten Free fam out there. I was so excited to try some seaside UK fish and chips and this place comes highly recommended for GF. The service was fantastic but the food was terrible. The oil used was definitely old and dirty. The chips were soggy, heavily soiled in dark gross oil. The fish and the batter really was very nice, I'll give them that. Given the exchange rate was so bad. It cost me about $30AUD so I wanted to just persevere and eat.. But I gave up when I found a massive black hair in amongst the chips. Honestly. I'm used to terrible gluten Free food, but this was next level hence, I'm leaving a review. See the pic, that dribble of oil on the side of the plate will tell all.

Went for lunch, this place is amazing. Fish and chips were to die for. This is not your typical greasy chippy. It is a restaurant. It was very busy but the service and staff were great. £13.99 for large cod and chips, well worth it.

The restaurant is sit in and more of a restaurant than most fish and chips shops. It was freezing inside. Like I had my hoody on and was still cold when eating. Turn the heating up! Vegan fish and chips on offer which is great. The portion was huge. Like enough for 2people. But priced fairly high too. I would suggest smaller portions at a lower price for lunch time. Also the tofish was just battered plain tofu. No seasoning. It needs some seaweed or something added.

Top notch loved the big papa fish staff were really friendly if you are going to order the big papa make sure you are very hungry
