Food was great and my waitress was Bethany who was really friendly and had the time to have a quick chat with me even though she was really busy. Definitely recommend!

Very disappointed! Been afew times now because it was nice but never again. It was dinner time at the weekend with 8 people in maximum.after waiting 35 minutes and watching 3 people leave due to poor food ours came. My Mum's fish was cold and had to return it. My partners said her prawn salad wasn't nice and left over half. My fish was awful it was rubbery and the chips were very dark with burnt bits and also tasted terrible. Clearly it was old burnt oil used. I'm home now and have terrible belly ache and I can't get rid of that awful oil taste. We drove over 50 miles to it and spent over £60 I don't do reviews but felt like I needed to let other people know. Upon leaving even the manager admitted the place has gone down hill after telling him about our experience. Never again 🤮

Absolutely the worst fish and chips I’ve ever eaten!

Terrible experience having a family meal here. Adults food arrived before the children’s food. One meal stone cold and sent back, the return item was just batter, side dishes of peas turned up when meal was eaten. We complained and got offered free deserts and drinks, we didn’t want more food. I just polity asked them to refund the 1 meal that was replace twice and didn’t get eaten. They refused!! The manager wouldn’t come and talk to us about it and said he was too busy. I have even emailed the company twice and had no reply. If you’re reading this, do yourself a massive favour and got the chip shop instead 👍

Would not eat here again, you don't get what you order then when you mention it they not bothered, the food had all burnt bits of old food over it like they needed to change the cooking fat and I never seen so many chops with eyes disgusting

Service was good and friendly but below average fish and chips. Family lunch out, two adults and two hungry teenagers. Cost £60. Batter was very thick, not cooked all the way through which soaked up the fat leaving a greasy taste. Chips were lukewarm as was the the curry sauce. My always hungry teenagers boys only managed half their meals, which speak volumes. Don’t be fooled by the “Britains best fish and chips”. It appears those days are over. Won’t be returning.

Food was excellent, service was excellent despite the staff shortage and Darren, the front of house, was super hospitable.

After recently being diagnosed as celiac finding places to eat out has become a bit of a nightmare. But Papa's has a massive range of gluten free fish and chips that were really tasty. The staff were friendly and very attentive. I would definitely go there again. The haddock was amazing!

Well truth to be told - a let down at the least. Food arrived at various times. Fish tasty but batter overcooked so dark… same as the chips. A waste of cash and a bad 1st experience from our visitors to 🇬🇧 Oil old, incorrect temperatures and site management.

Last week had a take away from here and was awful !! So decided to sit in this week what a difference!! Was served by a young lady called Bethany who was very polite and very hardworking with a lovely smile !!

Absolutely disgusting. We have eaten at Papas multiple times, at your sites in different parts of the country including the blackpool one. We waited 35 minutes in a not very busy restaurant for our food. I ordered gluten free, My partner ordered a normal fish and chips. When it arrived the chips on the normal were covered in black burnt bits, but the fish is fine. The gluten free fish arrived a dark brown colour and tasted burnt. It’s never been like this before. I told the waitress who just smirked at me and took it away. A young waiter brought it back a minute after with the fish all broken up trying to put it back down telling me thats how the gluten free should be. I asked for a refund, and was told no but I could have a voucher to come back another time. I said thats not good enough as I am not able to eat something that I have paid for. The young man walked off and I was stood waiting a while at the bar for another member of staff. He was reluctant to give a refund, initially saying thats how it should be. He then said it was because they have old oil that needs to be used, and then blamed the chef for being new and not knowing how long to cook things for. He said they would remake it and that it wouldn’t be burnt like what had just been served. A minute later he came back and said could I have grilled fish instead, I said no I wanted what I had ordered or a refund. After sitting for another 20 minutes, another fish was brought out equally as burnt. The batter has such a bitter aftertaste and is dark brown and I had my partner try some who agreed. It’s clear the problem is the oil is old, which is causing the burnt taste and oily texture. For some reason the food was served in a bowl and had a large amount of oil sat in the bottom of the bowl. Again, on complaining I could this time hear the kitchen shouting about it when the waiter took it back. So now, we have been sat in the restaurant over an hour and have had no food. Eventually they agreed to give me a refund - minus the drinks! So we had to sit and wait 15 minutes for our drinks to be brought over, we didn’t even drink half of them and we have to leave because the food is unacceptable and the man refused to refund the drinks! We then had to sit and finish our drinks before we could leave. Its New Years day and now we need to go somewhere else to actually get some food.

I had read reviews before choosing to eat here. The haddock was very thin dried up and over cooked. The batter was really greasy. The chips were also overcooked heading to being burnt. A real disappointment as far as the food. All the members of staff who served and welcomed me were lovely it’s a shame the food didn’t match.

It was Gluten free and that is the main reason we went. The food was edible but it was very greasy and well done. I think the oil needed changing. Otherwise a nice place. Order off a news paper , right by the sea. Plenty of space, order at the bar

Having just read very recent reviews, I wonder if we ate at same establishment! We were prepared to wait approximately 30 minutes due to oven breakdown. When the food finally arrived some 45 minutes late it was served in pasta dishes. Some of the chips were hot the majority warm as was the fish. The amount of batter on the fish must have been 2 inches thick, the mushy peas looked like a bowl of green slop, dripping over one side of the stainless steel ice cream/ prawn cocktail dish. On a more positive note the older lady who led us to our table was doing her best despite the long waiting time. Incidentally, it wasn't busy, no queuing and plenty of vacant tables ( 5pm) As for PAPA'S SECRET batter recipe was he taught by Colonel Sanders?! 1st and last visit, two very disappointed customer's

Ordered medium haddock with chips.mushy peas are separate..the service was basic.lad forgot the cutlery and we had to ask for the peas ,tables and the floor not wiped down just looked like basic things were missed..the food we'll.. medium.haddock was 70%batter 30% fish so basically your getting a small fish but paying for a medium..way to much batter which conceals how much fish you are really getting!!!

Arrived at 17.15 to be told there would be a 30 minute wait due to one of the ovens breaking down. Waited 35 minutes , unfortunately the food definitely wasn't worth the wait. The fish & chips were served in a pasta bowl, the mushy peas looked like they'd been.slopped into the dish, hanging over one side. Some chips were hot, the majority were warm the fish was cold. Very very disappointed 1st and last visit.

Tried to make a booking online but there site was down, Walked in to be turned away for having no booking which I accepted, The issue i have is how rude the young girl [manager] was to us and othe customers also wanting a table, she said we could come back and try in half an hour however she would not take our booking and showed us the door. Thankfully there are plenty of decent fish and chip shops in the area who are very welcoming.

So rude! Website said no need to book, when we went in we were told you had to have a booking. When I explained we had tried. She just said you should have booked. Throughout the whole time she glared at me as if we had done something wrong. I felt like a child being told off. Please update your website if you want people to book. And train your staff on customer service, there are ways to talk to customers that do not mean they leave feeling like crap!

Lovely food that was good value for money, warm atmosphere and fabulous service .

Callum and Darren’s a top bloke, food is amazing and well worth the money, drinks are perfect would recommend the pink martini and fish and chips to anyone that goes there. Best in Blackpool if you’re willing to pay the money. Couldn’t complain about anything!! Thank you all so much ❤️

Nice atmosphere but certainly not the best fish and chips as they claim. Batter was pretty good on the fish but the chips were lukewarm and chewy. I get chips 100 times better from a local kebab van. The beef burger we ordered was missing all the salad listed on the menu. The side-salad was also missing egg and dressing. Service was ok but you have to get up and wait in line to order at the bar after being taken to a seat.

First time I went it was really nice. But then 3 times after that it was rubbish. Over prised, food wasn't great. Coke was flat rechanged for new cokes still flat. The poor waiter was ill are unhappy.

Got seated more or less straight away as it wasn’t too busy. Food was okay but the service just ruined it. We waited 20 minutes before I went up and collected our drinks off the bar as no one seemed interested in bringing them over. When the mains came it took 3 trips back and fourth to our table to bring us cutlery, sauces and spare plates (which were absolutely freezing) not sure why these couldn’t have just all been brought at once. It did feel like there were enough staff to accommodate the level of customers, so it was very disappointing. We visit Blackpool every year and this will be the last year for papas unfortunately. Maybe we were just unlucky with this experience!

Seated very quickly and food came out within a reasonable time. Chips were pretty average but saved by the curry sauce and gravy. Gravy was excellent consistency and some of the best curry sauce I've had at a chippy. Staff were fairly inexperienced and a wee bit inattentive, no check back on food etc. Tried the deep fried mars bar for dessert - a nice novelty but I don't think their batter and ice cream are a good mix! Would certainly give it a go if in the area (and I'll try and steal that curry sauce recipe) but my local still takes 1st place 🙏

Had a great experience at this restaurant. The food was great and the staff were lovely. Enjoyable atmosphere and not overly priced.

We came pass by chance and saw a plaque that it won BBCs best takeaway in Britain plaque, so went in. And I can totally see why! I had the best fish and chips in my life (and trust me, I’ve had many). The chips were so nice but in a not too greasy way, the batter was light and crispy and the fish, so fresh. The person who served me was wonderful too, he’s name was Darren, but I also spoke to a Coffey waitress. Everyone was very warm and welcoming, perfect combination to brilliant food.

Service was unbelievably slow, ordered a pint at the bar, was weirdly told they would bring it to my table, then waited a whole 20 minutes and finally the lady waved at me from the bar to tell me to come get it from her instead.

Great meal and great gluten free fish and chips. Family of 6. Great service and loved the visit. Darren service was 10 out of ten.

Made to wait 20 mins when ordering from the takeaway ‘if you’re in a rush’ machine. After 15 mins, told waiting on chips. When finally served chips were disgusting, burnt and pretty much cold so cant have been the fresh ones they were apparently ‘waiting on’ . ,fish also super greasy. Only tried this one as the one in Scarborough was superb but wont go back again. Poor food and customer service.

Absolutely amazing food! Definitely worth a visit if you are in Blackpool. Portion sizes are huge! Staff are very helpful, we were served by Darren who is extremely polite and courteous! Desserts are lovely also!

NEVER visit this business, had a look through the pass whilst going to the disabled toikets and notices that every side (curry, gravy peas and beans”) were straight out a tin and into the microwave yet still came out cold. gosh and chips and sausage from frozen not fresh like they claim. upon walking to disabled toilets had a peek in the staff room, extremely dirty flies covering every inch of the wall aswell as it stinking of god knows what. they also fired a really hard worker called jasmine and i think they ought to think on what they have done it was a stupid decision for no reason, they also treated another past worker horribly always shouting at her when she was only learning. In conclusion NEVER COME HERE EVER

I am absolutely disgusted in this establishment the treatment of workers is absolutely unacceptable!! A young woman was fired today simply for doing her job and getting quite frankly screamed at by another employee (think it said on his name tag ben?) overall the toxicity at this establishment is vile and it needs to think aboht how this looks to customers the server we had was a lovely girl called Jasmine bless her heart hope she finds somewhere else to work and not somewhere that still has fish bones in the fish 😡😡

Disappointed, chips were lukewarm and occasionally green, I had cod with the chips, the batter was oily and dark in colour, fresh cooking oil required please. Overall, next time I would walk by.

Must be the only place in Blackpool to offer a pattie (native to chip shops in Hull). Apart from that, an all in all average experience. Food was greasy and the "homemade" tartare sauce came in a sachet. Also slightly unnerving to see a picture of Peter Levy in the lavatory....

As a local eat here often. But Saturday evening was busy. Ordered 3 senior meals and others, but no dessert was offered and after 35 minutes plates not cleared left without waiting any longer. Disappointed as there were 6 of us

Second visit to this restaurant. Best fish and chips in town. We were greeted at the door by Darren (Daz). Very friendly and welcoming. We all had haddock and chips. The fish was perfectly cooked with crispy batter and moist fish. The chips were delicious too. We shared a portion of mushy peas and curry sauce. Which was to die for. Tasted like the curry sauce I remember as a child. Washed down with a very reasonably priced bottle of Pinot Grigio. Our waiter Cody was efficient and friendly. Took the time to make sure everything was OK and engaged in a brief chat. Daz also came over to chat and ask how our visit to Blackpool was going. A very pleasant experience, enhanced by two very pleasant staff. Would highly recommend.

I ordered the large haddock & chips, the haddock was fairy hot, and the chips were lukewarm. Decent food but not the best. The service was good, and the price was reasonable. Definitely not the best fish & chips i've ever eaten & not the worst either.

OMG one of the best fish and chips I've had in a long time absolutle delicious..I had the medium haddock and chips and it was a good size potion mushy peas extra and curry sauce it was fab. Website states you don’t need a reservation, but can call to reserve if you wish. Called multiple times & no response. Walked up on the evening instead, to be told that we couldn’t take a walk-in table, because they were setting up for reservations. When I explained that the phone wasn’t answered all day, was advised that the phone ‘is broken & has been for a while’. We were then told we couldn’t just wait for a walk-in table, because all tables were reserved.

Terrible. If I had 2 spoonfuls of fish flesh I was lucky. Fish looked massive but all batter. Very disappointed. Did mention my disappointment and got a shrug for my trouble.

The food was OK. Not hot enough, just eatable. Service was poor at best. The restaurant was cold. Staff didn't know the table numbers so we're taking food all over.

We went on a Wednesday evening on the strength of good reviews. It was busy (always a good sign) and we were advised of a wait of about 30 mins for food. No probs so we settled down with a nice pinot from the bar. Unfortunately the food did not live up to expectations. The seafood platter was Ok but the calamari was tough and the dish was overwhelmed with salad leaves and rather slimy cucumber. Fish and chips was a generous size and the haddock was terrific. However the chips were not fresh and lukewarm. We should have sent them back but the fish was good. The children’s fish and chips were the same but the portion size was almost too big for a 7-year old. Food was served without cutlery or condiments which we had to ask for. There was nothing that deserved making a fuss but overall, it was a bit disappointing as most reviews have been good.

Good atmosphere friendly staff and reasonably priced, we come back every year for the illuminations and have never been disappointed

Bought a Papa's combo - small haddock, chips, sausage and curry sauce. Chips were literally just all scraps in the bottom of the box. Had one raw chip in there too, somehow. Fish wasn't bad but a bit dry. Not the best. Overall a disappointment.

They claim to be the Best Fish & Chips in Btitain - they definitely aren't that. They aren't the worst either, but I'd say a little under average. The scampi was better than the haddock, the chips were okay. The service was quite slow for a chippy and there were loads of dirty plates on tables, with nobody clearing them up. I'd not go again tbh.

TAKEAWAY it was crap Chips was over cooked dry didn't taste right the fish was bruised the batter was shimmy staff was rude the young lad spilt curry all over the pot not just on one but all 3 pots. We've tried a few different papas around the country and can honestly say it's not very good it's over priced and the foods poor no wonder there all closesing now

Very good and delicious fish&chips fast service friendly staff lovely big shop loads of seat at Blackpool. Near the pier so after you visit the attraction you can eat some fish&chips very convenience and their plaid parking lot near it multi storey parking so very good I recommend this restaurant.

Best fish and chips I've ever had. Visited with family last Friday. The guy front of house couldn't do enough for people and made sure everything ran smoothly. I can't wait to come back, tempted to do the hour and a half drive just for the large cod and chips! Kids loved it too

I went to Papa’s on Saturday and my service from a handsome chap called Ben was splendid! He was extremely caring and precise with my food. Thank you Ben, will be coming back soon to see you again. 🥰

One of the best Fish and chip restaurants we have been to. From the time we stepped inside the staff could not be better. All so friendly and helpful. The food was fantastic. We had some of the best Fish and chips we have ever had. Can strongly recommend a visit. I am sure you won't be disappointed. Thank you to Darren and all the staff for a wonderful eating experience.

Went in here today with my parents and beat the rush hour!!! Went into the takeaway section and got a large haddock and chips! Was server by a boy called Ben with a welcoming smile! Thank you Papa’s for the brilliant experience!!!!!

First time visiting and it won't be the last. Service was slow but this was due to the school holidays and illuminations, so did allow for this. Tasty food and the staff very friendly and helpful.

Myself and my family travelled from Birmingham on 5th October and we had a meal booked at 6.30pm, on arrival there were big queues outside however we were seated for our booking. We ordered quickly as we are aware that the wait can be a while and the fireworks were on at 8.30pm which we had travelled to see. The food was brought to the table around 8.10pm which we felt was a long wait, the sides we ordered with the food came out 10 mins after the meals and my husbands meal of fish, parsley sauce, garden peas and chips arrived and it looked dreadful, dry baked up fish, no peas or sauce, the meal was placed on the table and we were told they had no parsley sauce or garden peas! We refused this meal and said the value for money was dreadful at almost £17 for this meal, we asked for a refund, I had to chase the manager around the restaurant to get a refund and was told on several occasions I would have to provide my email address to obtain a refund which I refused. After lots of discussion I eventually got a refund for that meal. I would not attend there again, it is not the first time we’ve been and can’t quite understand why people rave for this place, food is average fish and chips which you could get in any fish and chip shop, wait is horrendous, staff organisation and friendliness is not great either. Overall not a good experience in my view, this also made us miss the fireworks due to the manager not sorting out the refund promptly!

This was our fish and chip meal for our holiday, but we definitely won't be going back there. The service was slow, and the music was too loud, so you couldn't actually have a decent conversation as nobody could properly talk to one another. One of the waiters also left the kitchen and came round the corner with vape smoke coming from his mouth. Surely, this should be done outside on a break. I had a fish pie dish, but it was quickly returned as it was served in a pudding bowl, and the edges of the fish pie was rock hard. I ended up getting it changed to scampi and chips but only ate the scampi due to the chips being hard and very chunky. My entire table had also finished their food by this point so was just waiting for myself to finish. The other guests in my group had raw batter on their haddock, and the other haddock was 70% batter with very little fish. The kids' chicken nuggets are nothing to write home about either. Another group member had fish pie returned twice for the same issues I had and, in the end, had it refunded and left very hungry. I paid for x2 children and x2 adults and in total was £48. If I had a nice meal and enjoyed the food then that money would have been well spent but unfortunately we all left hungry and had to hunt for more food. Very disappointing and won't be returning!

Staff are great - friendly and helpful. Food is good. But I could never go again on a day out - I can't justify losing all that time between ordering and the food finally arriving - we waited nearly an hour. Yes, the food was nice but not "wow this is so good it was worth the wait.". There's something wrong with the logistics of this place because the staff were working really hard continuously and doing their best to get food to customers as fast as possible.

Thank you to Darren for his attention to our needs. Pleasant and polite which made our visit more enjoyable. An excellent host and a credit to the establishment. He is the benchmark of service excellence.

We arrived without a reservation, it was packed but Darren was super friendly and allowed us to sit and wait, he also allowed us to bring our wee dog in with is even though officially they're not dog friendly. After only a few minutes he had a booth ready for us. You order at the bar and my only criticism would be there was just 1 staff member there who was taking all orders and also preparing drinks etc so he was very busy and at times there was a long queue. We waited 30 minutes as the place was very busy but it was worth it, the fish was probably the best I've ever tasted and even the medium one was massive. When we were leaving we spoke to Darren who asked if everything was OK, and he was also saying that there had been a few very rude customers that evening shouting and swearing at him for the length of waiting time etc. Ridiculous really when you can see the size of the place and that every table is full, you expect a wait and don't mind when the food is so good. Thanks to everyone and especially Darren on the door, we will definitely be back next time we're in town 😀

Cold Food and Poor Manager customer service. On a weekend in Blackpool I decided to take the family to this fish and chip restaurant for an evening meal. Unfortunately our experience on this occasion was terrible. Our food arrived after 25 minutes, and straight away, we called the waitresses as the chips were luke warm. She returned saying we could have fresh chips. We started to eat the seamingly oily fish and after 5 minutes she returned to say that the chips would be another 5 minutes. I asked to see the manager who returned and explained he was the kitchen manager and he had left for his break and apologised. Our meal out was ruined and I asked for a refund as we were still awaiting replacement food but a refund was refused as the tills do not do refunds. After he contacted another off site manager he said because we had started the fish we could have a refund for the chips. Of course not happy I demanded he recontacted the manager. Unfortunately this manager seamingly refused to answer the phone. After 20 mins I accepted a £25 voucher. Big mistake as I now discover Papas have closed alot of their outlets and my nearest one is 40 miles away. Ok I thought after reading the web site they pride theirselves on quality food and customer service to which I contacted them on their contact form to be promised a response within 7 days. I forwarded my receipt and pictures Well, 3 more contact forms later, 3 emails to their office and 3 answerphone messages left, I have not had any responce at all. Things can go wrong in any restaurant and I believe it's how you put it right in the end. Papas failed me at every turn and I feel they stole my money. I have waited over 4 weeks before posting my review. They do not respect their customers and could this be why they are failing as a business. Shame on them !

Every chippy in Blackpool claims to be the best chippy there.. so I did some research and Papa's kept popping up!.. established in 1966.. and winners of the bbc best chippy in the uk (as the plaque read outside).. decided to give it a whirl.. turned up without booking and was given a table straight away, no problem.. ordered x2 medium haddock & chips, a side of curry sauce and a side of mushy peas...... oh my days!!... portions are huge, batter is very light and the sides were exceptionally good.. prices aren't as steep as you'd expect either.. Will definitely be returning!

Looked up best chippy in Blackpool and it was Papas so 6 of us went out for tea, it was busy and we que'd for 5 mins, went to the bar to order 20 mins in the que waited for our drinks ended up going to the bar myself then the food took nearly 45 minutes to arrive, some food was sat on the pass well over 10 minutes, food came I had haddock and chips and curry sauce, haddock was awful it looked as if it had been cooked 2 hours previously, chips great curry sauce best I've ever tasted, so I'm sorry I haven't given a golden review as I wanted, better luck next time oh sorry there won't be a next time.

Good food, second visit now. The only thing is you have to go to the bar to order more drinks when eating. ____________________________________ 3rd and last visit!!!!!! Just no organisation!!! 1 person serving behind the bar, who wasn't very pleasant. Dirty plates/ tables, people stood waiting to be seated, right behind our table. Absolutely freezing when the door opens and it blows a gale. Fish.....batter to thick and tastes of dirty oil. Daughter's burger was like rubber. Totally gone down the drain this place.

Lovely food, the fish was huge! Polite and helpful staff. There is disabled entrance and disabled toilets.

Not as good as it used to be. Service a tad slow especially as it wasn't very busy. Food ok but it has been better on previous visits.

This was the 2nd time going here the 1st time was spot on the 2nd time was not so gd the fish was grease the chips did not taste nice the time it took to get drinks was a joke don't think I will b going back again

I had haddock and chips. The fish was nice but the chips were a bit on the cold side. The service was poor.

The worst fish cake I’ve ever eaten. Mushy peas were terrible too. The chips were nice but I lost my appetite from the other two. So many chip shops to choose from in Blackpool, try elsewhere.

Darren was very attentive and really looked after our table. We came with a client who has accessible needs and he couldn't of been more supportive of her. Absolutely amazing service by Darren and made our girl smile the entire time. Thankyou for such an amazing service and the food was really tasty too.

Amazing fish and chips! Best in the UK for me. Darren and Taylor were so friendly and made sure we had everything we needed :). Great experience, we’ll be back!

Papas is for us the best fish n chips restaurant in Blackpool. It's always busy which tells you how good it is. The food is great and the portions are big. Lots of variety for mains and good sides. The service is good and they staff are attentive. Hugh shout out to Darren the manager. We have met him a few times now and he's always very helpful. There have been times when it was very busy but its never to much for him to get you in as quick as he can. He's very kind, polite and always happy to help. from Yulia and Graham
