We was served by Abi. Very polite and friendly. The Manager Emma was so Nice. We was made to feel really welcome. The food was excellent as always. Can't recommend the place enough.

Still selling tasty and fresh gluten free fish and chips. GF Batters always good and I even got gf scraps time before last 🥳🥳. Bit more expensive than other chippys but we know they are good and not many chippys around selling gluten free.

Excellent value for money, good food and plenty of it. A lovely restaurant with a great atmosphere, excellent waitress service from Neve and a lovely friendly manager called Jonathan called at our table to see if there was anything else we required. Would highly recommend.

Constantly good. Gluten-free batter lovely. Now order gf for whole order rather than mixing. GF curry tasty and is what I remember ( or think I do ) before I needed gf food.

Didn't know that Papas did GF fish and chips until TA search showed it. Rang to confirm before visited and they serve every day. When I went to pick up, I was advised....'ring before and as they are cooked fresh, they will be ready when you get here and don't have to wait as long.. fab service. Also do gf battered sausages, battered holloumi. GF Curry sauce was spicy and good. Really happy I found that this is local and so good. Fish was fresh, moist and batter crisp and 'large' fish was large not just in price.

Called in after a couple in town, not sure about the bad service comments on here as they were great with us, even telling us cheaper ways to get what we wanted! Fish were huge and nice chips, even after a 15 minute drive home. Very good.

Called in on Tuesday night as a party of 3. Not many people in so service was spot on with friendly staff. We all had the large cods which were enormous, lovely tasty batter and the quality of the fish was superb. A nice portion of mushy peas finished with a tasty cup of tea. One of the best fish and chip meals I have had.

Quite busy at 1 pm we ordered our fish and chips which was for 2 adults with tea and bread and butter. We asked twice for bread and butter and had no milk when the tea came so young lady at counter gave me some milk. I then asked again for bread for one as my husband had already eaten his meal by the time I got my slice and I was over halfway through my meal. A couple on next table were served with their meal and they also had to ask for tea and bread and butter and had to ask for a knife and fork and still waiting for their drinks when we left. I in no way blame the 2 ladies waiting on as it seems they were taking orders, taking payments and clearing tables and apologised to everyone who was complaining and I heard about half a dozen do so. Its the companies fault as they are short staffed.

Not a bad chippy, a lot round here are very greasy, but the times I have been, the prrtions are good and food enjoyable

Fish and chip supper prior to theatre visit. Easy to park for Papa's and not get wet in the 'biblical' rainstorm. We were only diners in restaurant, so not much atmosphere but waitress was friendly and attentive. Seniors special proved amazing value - choice of tea or coffee, haddock or cod, and wide range of sides - one each included and brown or white bread and butter. We both chose cod. Fish was plenty large enough, crisp batter and cooked to order, chips were piping hot. Maybe not the best we have ever had, but much better than most. Really cheering on a filthy night in Castleford.

We ordered food on the app on August 25th 2019. On opening our order we found we were 1 portion of chips short. Immediately I tried calling them, but couldn’t get through. So I sent a message on their chat side of the app. I didn’t hear anything, so I called within a couple of days. The person who took my call, apologised & told me whenever we placed another order to mention it & we would receive the portion missed out. We haven’t placed an order or called in, until this past Saturday evening (October 12th) around 9.45pm. My husband went into the shop & relayed the message to the staff behind the counter. They implied that my husband was a liar & they would not issue him. Where as we would have placed an order for around £15, we will never set foot in that shop, again! You could check that my phone tried calling you, after the date we ordered! I will not be called a liar! #NoCustomerServiceSkills

After reading good reviews and having visited last year we were expecting good things. The portions are huge so we shared a fish and a plate of chips and mushy peas we still left some as they were Luke warm. The restaurant was empty except for us there were 2 waitresses, a second couple arrived and were told to wait for service. Both waitresses were tidying cups behind the counter so the customers had to wait till they finished. We had drinks....Pepsi both were flat poured from a open 2litre bottle must have been a week old. Good points disabled access ramp. Large portions. Bad points Cold food Flat pepsie Disinterested staff bar one girl. Would score it 4/10 .

Called in for take away, two regular haddock, large chips and peas. Fantastic! Perfectly, freshly cooked haddock with light crispy batter that didn't even loose its crispiness during the 5 minute drive home. Tasty chips, and hot flavourful peas. Cannot reccomended enough.

We called here one Thursday evening on our way back from rugby and we ordered to take out. The food was awful the batter was soggy and barely had any fish inside, the chips were what seemed to be left overs warmed up. The staff were rude and uninterested. Would not be returning or recommend going.

Great fish & chips. Freshly cooked, good quick service. Reasonably priced for a restaurant and there is a takeaway option too.

I always go for the large haddock, chips and mushy peas! Cooked to order and always fresh. Gorgeous crisp and dry batter on the fish. The waitress in the restaurant is always cheerful and always remembers my order - although she does ask if I want to change anything. My only gripe is the rather loud radio station music being played over the speaker system. Must have a quiet word next time I visit!

I found out recently they did gluten free. I struggle with take away and have gone to York and Filey to find decent gluten free fish. Mine was excellent and portion size amazing. Husband had normal and he loved his too. Greeted it’s a smile as I walked in. Definitely recommended. I will be back.

Visiting Castleford I was peckish and decided to try this chippy after being recommended it by a friend.

Papa's is one of the best fish and chips shops not just in the north of England but in the uk , We have eaten out Me and the wife at the so called finest fish&chip; shop restraunts the UK , Papa's is up there with the best , Don't hesitate to come here it is fresh and of the highest quality and cooked perfectly , highly recommend you will not be disappointed

Sadly dissapointed with my meal today . Having used this restaurant in Scarborough , was expecting the same high standard in Castleford . Had the fish cakes , which didn't taste of anything let alone fish .....they came half cold and served on a cold plate . Have I got the second one warmed up...it came back soggy as if it had been warmed in a microwave .

Just wanted to say everything was delicious. Fresh fish, cooked very well, crispy but not greasy. Seafood platter was very good too, and the chips were like your mum's. Curry sauce very good too. Caring, personal service from Joe - thank you.

Recently got some fish & chips etc to the tune of £13.45 at the takeaway side, and driving home i started to think i was overcharged. Sure enough, and thanks to picking up a menu on leaving, i was overcharged £1.15.

Nice fish&chips; here but a bit more expensive than others in town when you eat in but reasonable prices compared to Leeds and the staff here are freindly and polite i reccomend this to new customers.

We had fish and chips from Papa's for the first time. We got takeaway, sausage and chips and fish and chips with gravy.

I ordered a big cod fillet and chips, and it was very big indeed. Regular size would surely have been enough. However, garden peas / mushy peas appeared not to be an option. Not a fancy restaurant, but decent enogh f & c.

Personal horrible, no tengo nada malo que decir de la comida cuando fuimos, pero el personal no era agradable en lo más mínimo. No sólo uno, sino varios. No una sonrisa, por favor, gracias. Parecía estar disfrutando de cada compañía, pero cuando hablan con los clientes no tenían la vida en ellos.

No podía creer lo buen pescado patatas fritas de la onu podría ser. Delicioso. Mi mujer pidió el mar comida bandeja. De nuevo era grande y muy sabroso. Tomó una hora para comer. Dijo que el calamar era suave y delicioso, las gambas eran dulces y el pescado trozos eran deliciosos. Los dos nunca he tenido tanta comida por tan poco dinero. ✡

The fish and chips were okay. There were 4 adults and 3 children in our party so we were asked to sit at the end near the bar area. There was no heating we were absolutely freezing...December and only half the building heated, the half we were told we couldn't sit. The place could do with a refurb as it is looking quite tired. The other gripe we had is it was cash only as we were told the card machine wasn't working. The cost was £62, 3 children under 5 so hard to say whether or not it was value for money. I hadn't been for ages so a bit of a disappointment..

We called one night last week for a takeaway. Shop was empty. We had to wait for two fish to be cooked. We received the smallest portion ever and not very cheap. I nearly asked where the rest was. Fish tasted very fishy like it had been around a while. Will not go again.

We have visited this restaurant before and always enjoyed our food.We went for lunch on Sat 22nd October. There was quite a wait for our food to arrive which we remarked was surprising as it is also a fish and chip shop. The food was very greasy and the chips were hard and didn't taste fresh,My husband could not eat the fish when he lifted it up it was sitting in a pool of oil (the fish didn't seemed to have been drained at all when they were removed from the fryer)!I told two of the staff about our disappointment and they said they would pass the message on! They apologised but did not offer any compensation, free drink or dessert etc. We had to pay the full bill and will not be going there again!

An old fashioned but very clean fish restaurant that has been trading here since the 1960s. I had a large Cod and chips Mushy peas , bread and butter and a cup of tea.my partner had a regular Cod with mushy peas ,bread and butter and a cup of coffee.my Cod was thick ,white and very large that it hung over both sides of a large plate. Perfectly cooked with a light golden crispy batter. The chips were substantial and perfectly cooked and the peas had that fresh sweet taste about them.A gem of a restaurant that gives value for money, but more important knows how to perfectly cook a piece of cod. The staff were friendly and the whole experience still leaves me longing for another one of those large cod. Alas I live in Sheffield so it will have to wait till my next visit. The whole meal for two of us cost £18.40. The meal was worth every penny and my humble congratulations to the chef that cooked this meal.

Been here several times now and it has never failed to impress me, the place is traditional and quirky but nice, the staff at the counter or internal are fantastic, very polite, professional and always prepared to go above and beyond.Service is quick and the food is always hot and cooked beautifully, the chips are of good length and size with no scrappy bits (don't like those) the fish has always been superb, nice piece lovely and white and the batter is awesome, just the right colour, texture and so light, the whole meal was superb I would recommend you try them (inside if possible) you will not be disappointed.

Visited here Friday 02/09/2016 before watching the Tigers v Wildcats game found excellent service & food which was non greasy..... Well done Papas terrific value too

Lunch time visit with work mates after recommendation. This fish and chip shop is streets ahead of any other we have visited in the Castleford area. The staff were pleasant and friendly the food generous and of high quality and the service was reasonably prompt. I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone who wants quality fish and chips and who doesn't mind paying a little bit extra for a good meal that isn't dripping in fat.

Been in today seen the prices have gone up, I complained to the lady behind the counter who was a good laugh haha, but she couldn't explain why they went up and I waited over 10 minutes for a baby fish, and 3 others got served their food before me, which isn't good enough, Fish and Chips are now the price of a lot of people's hourly wage!!! How it goes up £1.20 is beyond me it's a disgrace. I will be making my own birds eye fish from Jack Fulton Foods and microwave chips in future!!

We get fish and chips from the take away of Papas just about ever week. They are without a doubt, in our opinion, the best fish and chips we have ever tasted. The fish is moist but not greasy and always tastes like it is freshly cooked. The chips are good too. You don't get that over cooked oil smell on the food, and we highly recommend this restaurant. To tell you the truth we preferred them to a top leading restaurant in Whitby which is supposed to be famous for its fish chips.

Had some fish and chips to take away the other day and they were the best fish and chips i have had in a very long time,they were very tasty and there was plenty.

Staying in Castleford I was recommended to try Papas as a great place to eat. On entering the restaurant I ordered a drink at the bar and asked if I ordered food at the bar. The man who served me was friendly and advised me to take a seat and he would come and take my order. After a few minutes a female came to put my drink down and left. No one came to bring me a menu or take an order for nearly 15 minutes (trying to catch their eye in the meanwhile) despite the fact that the restaurant did not seem to be overly busy. The food arrived and was very good and the service once I had managed to place my order was very good.

Friday fish n chips from nowhere else but here.Massive portions and always fresh.Good service with a smile and never have to wait too long.You get a loyalty card too

We are sitting in the restaurant and we have just had the best fish and chips. We live in London and will definitely recommend this place, great food, excellent value.

I have not eaten in the restaurant, but have had fish and chips to take away on a number of occasions and have always been more than happy with them. The portions were large, and the food was hot and tasty. As Papa's is situated right on the edge of a large car park, there is no issue with parking.

The fish and chips here are good .but what i find is very helpful is that they cater for children size portions .which is great when we take our grandchildren.

We just love their fish and chips , always freshly cooked , staff are so polite and efficient . The batter is well seasoned . Would highly recommend . The prices are competitive too

We being Me and my Wife eat out throughout yorkshire and we often go to the east coast Whitby , Scarbrough & Bridlington . By far Papa's is the finest fish and chip shop throughout yorkshire and we have eaten at dozens of fish and chip shops the food at Papa's is at a very high standard and the restraunt is excellent , don't waste your time trying somewhere else, Papa's is by far the best , you will not be Dissapointed ( FACT ) .

Arrived and there wasn't much of a welcome. After we ordered I was given a dirty teapot and cup. Asked to change it and wasn't even given an apology. Food was mediocre and I've eaten better at take away chip shops! Disappointing.

Don't let the exterior of the building put you off. Stopped off here for a quick bite to eat. The portions were huge! Staff were friendly and the cost of the meal was very reasonable! Relaxed environment.Worth a try for fish and chips!

Papa's has been my regular fish and chip shop for some years now, mostly for take away and occasionally the restaurant. So on Friday (19/02/16) night on my our way home from work after a couple of drinks the perfect late tea would be Papa's fish and chips. It was 9:30 ish so no problem because it's open until 10pm. Well either management had been completely incompetent or the staff on duty were absolutely lazy, because before I even got through the door I asked if I wanted fish. Of course I did why else would I be walking into a FISH and chip shop! "Sorry we don't have any fish!" Was the reply I received. COMPLETELY INEXCUSABLE Time to find another fish shop in the area who know their job and can actually sell someone a fish. Sorry Papa's. Good bye.

Very nice chippy, if lacking a little in character. It has the atmosphere of a modern takeaway more than a traditional chip shop but the food is very nice. The fish is fresh and they offer scraps as an extra which is a nice touch (although I gather it is quite common up north). It is one of the best in the area and well worth a visit.

The fish and chips here are not the worst ive ever had but not the best either. When it first opened i thought their food was really nice but not so much these days, although not terrible i can get a lot better in Castleford, after saying that i must admit the staff are very nice and always make you feel welcome.

After shopping in Castleford & getting wet several times we decamped for fish & chips.Seen this restaurant a few times since it was converted from The Feathers Pub a few years back but never tried their fish & chips.So pleased we did,great food,large portions,served by a lovely lady who was very attentive.We had the pensioner special,haddock,chips,mushy peas,tea or coffee & bread & butter,I might add cod is also available & other side orders apart from mushy peas,It cost us £6.10p each,excellent value & will certainly return.There is a takeaway attached to the restaurant,this opens Mon to Sat 11am to 10pm,Sundays & bank holidays12 noon to 9pmRestaurant opening times are ,Sundays & bank holidays 12 noon to 8pmMon to Sat11am to 9pm

really enjoyed lunch at this traditional fish and chip shop. well-cooked fish served with chips, peas, tea and bread traditional British food at its best. very friendly service and as goo fired fish as you can find

The food here is lovely but portion sizes are far too small. I'm used to getting huge mountains of chips from my local chippy that can be shared between two of us but here we were still hungry after finishing our meal!

Had a fish 'n chip dinner Monday lunchtime. A small portion is available for cod and chips, tea or coffee and bread and butter (plus mushy peas or beans) for just over £6 and very tasty they are too. Plenty big enough and proper chips, the only downside is that they only provide white bread and I would prefer brown. But overall a good nosh and we will be back. Nice friendly staff too which always helps.

Overall, a very pleasant, well presented fish and chips restaurant. Good honest tasty food, pleasing interior and helpful staff (only the one but it was quiet), but that's the reason for the average rating. TOO QUIET! No atmosphere, no music, no nothing to remember!I know I've dined at Papa's but I can't really remember it!

I love the takeaway fish and chips better than the restaurant but both are good. Great for parking on an evening but poor through the day as it's a pay and display car park and the wardens are red hot. Service good but sometimes quite a long wait to be served.

I wouldn't recommend mainly because I don't like the taste of the fat used to cook the fish and chips. It over powers everything and left a horrible taste that lasted ages. Up to tasting I had looked forward to this meal, it looked good and I liked the packaging, but the taste was a real let down :(

This is the best fish n chips in cas. They are always fresh and not too greasy. The price is very reasonable. Also staff are friendly.

The takeaway, what can I say, for a tenner you can easily feed a family. Great bundle of fish, chips, onion rings, sausage, fish cake , 2 sides. Sad that we always end up throwing half of it away because there is too much, for a tenner, it's the best value I have ever seen. You just can't go wrong.

Only used the take out but at Easter bank holiday Monday was driving round Castleford looking for an open chippy and found papas. The food was hot and if you want a chippy can't go wrong here. Great chips.

This place when it first opened was fab! Now... It's massively gone down hill! Me and my family use to have a take away from here as a treat every so often and loved it the size of the fish, the amount of fish and chips, the amount of scraps, how tasty the curry sauce was...Now it's a handful of chips which are tasteless, fish that's more batter than the actual fish and as for scraps... Past three times we've been we have been told they don't have any!! Don't waste your time going there's better small local places to try. In fact we no longer go here which is a shame as it started so good!

We visited Papas for a change to the normal Sunday lunch on 19/4 and it didn't disappoint. We went with our close friends who also had no complaints. The order was taken by Liam (I think) and we couldn't have asked for a more. He was efficient and talkative. The food was delivered hot and very presentable by Jason (I think). Sorry lads if I have got the names wrong but you know who you are. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Very nice good quality food, not overly greasy like some fish and chip places can be. Have eaten in before and the service is great. The restaurant doesn’t have a great atmosphere as it feels very much like an old pub however the food is good enough to keep me going back.

Good fish & chips at a reasonable price, would have given 5, but for the fact that my grand daughters meal was cold, had to complain and was given another meal for her, I would have thought the management would have offered something extra for the wait as we had almost finished our meal when she received hers. Group consisted of my wife & I my son & his partner & our grand daughter. The decor would profit from an update.

We've had fish and chips to take away from here before but this time we thought it might be better to eat in instead of eating in the car in the car park.Couldn't fault the quality of the food and the service was really good. The only downside was we were the only ones in.But it was just after 3 to-day.We will definitely call in again instead of going to murgatroyds.

I have had take away fish and chips from Papa's previously but my partner and I sat in (me for the first time) last week.The restaurant used to be an old pub (so I am told by my partner) and you can tell as soon as you walk in. The decor unfortunately leaves a lot to be desired and doesn't make you feel comfortable. There were chips from previous peoples meals on the floor which should have been cleaned up. However, the service was very good and the food was fantastic. I ordered haddock and chips with curry sauce and the fish was absolutely gorgeous. My partner had cod, chips and curry sauce and cleaned the plate. You get just the right amount portion wise. I cannot fault the food but I think the restaurant needs a bit of a paint job and making a bit more comfortable. Saying this, I would go back again because the food is great.

Both my wife and I work in Castleford and Ive often had takeaway fish and chips from here. Great opening hours and great food. Never had a sit down meal here but Id imagine it to be just as good. Staff are always friendly and efficient too.Not had better for a while. Decent prices too and its in a big car park so parkings easy as well. It did used to be a pub.

The fish and chips are nice they are not expensive and you do get a large portion for the price. The quality is not brilliant however, I would eat there again.

Fantastic fish and chips, I live in Castleford so very local to me! We always choose to sit in the restaurant to eat the, however they do have a takeaway service for you as well!For fish and chips for 2 adults and fish and chips child portion, pot of tea, coffee, kids juice and an ice cream two scoops were only £18.84p. We were served by Jordon who was amazing, very friendly, polite, great worker and fantastic customer service!We have visited the restaurant about a dozen times this year.Real good food, you won't be disappointed.
