I’ve had fish and chips at plenty of places, and honestly, this was pretty average. I had to order peas separately for an extra £3, and it was barely 2-3 spoonfuls—definitely not worth it. Overall, it felt overpriced and overhyped. I wouldn’t recommend spending your money here.

Absolute disgrace. Charge 7 quid for a burger and it’s this….. no salad or anything. Sort it out. Con artists. Premium chip shop huh?!

The food is really nice in the restaurant, but with the amount they charge, you would think it wouldn't be too much trouble to have a pot of sauce instead of being told no. They guard the sauce like gollum guards his rings 💍

Don’t get a small chips as small means just enough to put in a roll. It’s a shame I can put images on here as it’s almost comical. I genuinely have had more fries in a McDonald’s happy meal and at almost £3 it’s a joke…..

Wanted to try Papa’s barn for the first time, a little bit further than our local. But wish I hadn’t bothered. It was my birthday and not only did they get our order wrong (which meant we paid for an extra portion of chips we didn’t want), all the food was so doused in salt it was inedible! Even the battered sausage had salt all over it! Absolutely disgusting. 🤢

The waitress had extremely long black fingernails. Not appropriate.

What a wonderful team and lovely restaurant. Joan has been a regular for many years so it was naturally her first choice for her 99th birthday celebration. It was not disappointing. The food was superb with the crispiest batter on the fish ever, the fish was fresh and the chips were cooked to perfection, lovely and crispy, just as Joan likes them. The staff were truly amazing and made a real fuss of her. It made her day!! The experience 10/10! Highly recommend this place.

Good fish and chips, good service, kids friendly and lots of parking. The grilled seabass and salmon were a little on the dry side, so better stick to the fish and chips. Thumbs up

Literally the crispiest batter on the fish ever, the fish was fresh and the chips are salted to perfection, although we had to ask for sauce because they forgot it, rate the experience 10/10! Really recommend this place.

Love it. it's the best fish and chips I have EVER HAD EVER!!! If the manager is reading this, I have one thing to say to him/her. WHY IS THIS SOOO GOOD? YOU ARE A TRULY AMAZING CHEF! I DONT KNOW HOW YOU DO IT, BUT THE DINNERS ARE SOOOOOOOOOO NICE. Great service, you will get seated, and they will give you a bread roll and some butter. Once you're finished, they will ASK if you're finished with the bread and if they can take your order (I've been to restaurants that just walk up to you and take the plate away). They will take your order and make sure that they have everything on there that you ordered and oc they go to the kitchen. You will get you starters, mains or deserts within 15-20 minutes of ordering them. Outstanding.

Just picked up 2 savaloy n chips used this chip shop many of times tonight some young boy served me n im not even joking when I say the portion was tiny it was literally under half a portion of normal chips.

Brilliant and best chippy about, this young man was a amazing, ive never seen someone be in a hundred places and at once, absolutely brilliant, he needs a medal 🏅. We need him in all shops 👏

Read some reviews before going wasn't to sure what to expect as a bit mixed . But for me and my family what a great experience. Drinks and food order taken quickly. Didn't wait to long for the food to come out . Friendly staff . And for our son some freshly cooked cookies 🍪 no charge..all in all a great meal

Probably the best Fish and chips in the area

We were on our way to A and D fisheries, unfortunately there was no where to park so carried driving and remembered Papas as it was on our way home . Never been to Papas before so we thought we'd give it a try, no parking problems here. Went to the take away counter and was promptly served, I ordered one large cod and a large portion of chips, this came to £15:60 which we thought was very expensive considering you can get two fish and chip meals from the daytime menu in a local beefeater for about the same price. The chips were very good and the portion was large, unfortunately the cod was small, quality was poor and it was over cooked which was disappointing, both should have been hotter. The speed of service was very fast but at the sacrifice of the fish. Note they do not accept Amex.

The food was very nice but it has the same atmosphere as a motorway services eaterie AND they charged £3 for half a tin of mushy peas. Having said that the fish and chips were very good

Visited yesterday Sunday 18th August. We were a group of 5, (3 adults and 2 kids). Didn't have a booking but luckily they had space. Service excellent, the young ladies who seated and served us were exemplary. Food delicious. What more can you ask for. Well done keep it up team.

Visited recently. Although the food was OK and average prices. The customer service was nonexistent! The person who served us made no effort at all and was miserable! The whole team seemed like they didn’t want to be there! We felt like we were interrupting their day rather than receiving a friendly welcome and good service you would expect! - Such a shame

By far the best in the area. Quality

The bun wasn’t toasted, the cheese wasn’t melted, the chips were soggy, and if you want to know what it tastes like, it’s in the bin at the end of the car park.

Visiting someone in the hospital so been here a few times now just before they close and I have to say there chips are the way around they was yummy…. Cooked my battered sausage fresh accepted had to wait for this but knew was fresh…. Always had a good review and nothings changed

Very poor waiting staff. In need of training. We were not offered drinks. Until she came to take order and seemed surprised that we wanted drinks first. Didn't ask if we wanted any starters. Drinks then took 15 mins to turn up. When she cleared table. She just left us. We weren't offered any desserts or more drinks. She seemed rather upset to be there.

Used to eat here regularly, eat in and take away, and would say it is (sorry, was) the best in the surrounding area. First visit for a while and the cod bites were greasy and thin, almost fish-less in places, scampi was nothing special, and large chips was the smallest we’ve had from anywhere recently. All wrapped up in a bag and taken home to eat. Worst of all though, is the smell of ‘off’ fish that still lingers in the car after 24hrs. Disgusting,

Monday night 8pm takeaway. Left over chips, pie filling rock hard and nothing fresh. Use to be a great takeaway won't be going back anytime soon. It seems to have lost the quality it once had.☹️

Simple. But exactly what we were looking for. Fresh cod and chips. Curry sauce. All exceptionally well done. And the half portion was great value for money, too.

Wonderful fish and chips. Food was fresh and the batter was melt in the mouth! Best fish and chips I’ve had for years. They even did half chips half salad which is perfect when you know you should be good, but a few chips don’t hurt 🙄😆 Restaurant clean and staff very friendly. I have told my friends and family to go there .. highly recommend

I don't eat in but it always looks full. My takeaway as usual was amazing only chippie I will use. The rock is my favourite. Highly recommended

Excellent service by friendly staff. Food was quick to arrive, hot and well cooked. Plenty of choice too. Given it was early Monday evening it was still busy with people eating inside as well as the takeaway counter which is a reliable indicator of how good it is.

Located in the A20,Ditton near Maidstone,Kent. Restaurant and takeaway that has been trading for around 30 years. Has it's own car park which is free if charge for customers. Serves traditional fish and chips along with pies,burgers,scampi etc. everything is cooked fresh and comes up lovely and hot. I had cod and chips, the piece of fish was chunky but not that big and at £16.50 a little expensive. You are given a bread roll with your meal. There are smaller portions for £10.50 which comes with a cup of tea. I didn't receive the drink I ordered and had to ask for it and it was difficult to attract the attention of the waitresses,there was no check back. I looked at the dessert menu but felt it was too expensive so left it. The restaurant was clean, table were cleared quite quickly and wiped down and relaid for the next diners. There are toilet facilities onsite which were clean

Very popular place with a great chatty atmosphere. Something between a cafe and a restaurant. Obviously a favourite for friends to meet up. If menu looks heavy there are lighter options like grilled salmon. This pictured is the light bite cod and chips. Very traditional - pictured with a cup of tea!

What on earth have the owners done to this place? Had a takeaway tonight. Cod was a tiny frozen triangle of mush, chips were really average. Used to be really good. Don’t normally leave reviews but it was so bad. Won’t be using again

Food always amazing. Hot drinks are expensive and in tiny cups. Tea should be in bigger cups at least, as more water costs nothing.

The staff here are honestly just annoying. Rude , always seem rushed , feel a burden when I’m in the shop , hope they get some sort of order on a busy night will be using a&d fisheries down the road next time.

Order was rock and chips fish was very small very and when I opened it it was dark brown just a rip off I hadn't ordered a small fish I hadn't payed for a small but got given a dark brown not very nice fish

Went in for Cod and chips for my husband, chips and various sides for me. Decided against the sides as they were very expensive so settled for chips (still pricey) My husband’s cod came out looking like a small battered sausage??? Was told they cook by weight. Maybe they do, but the cod weight for £16 was way too low?? There were no weight references on the menu so how would anyone know anyway? Sent it back and went to the chip shop locally where he got a bit of cod that looked like a bit of cod and twice the size. Would never go back. Way too much money for fish and potatoes.

I've driven past on many occasions over the years and never had time to stop. I finally went with a friend and was a little worried I might be disappointed. Not a bit of it! Nothing compares to my experience here. The place is nice, the service impeccable and the cod and chips with mushy peas was out of this world. The batter was crispy, the fish was flaky. I've eaten in many places and nothing compares to what I had here. I live 30 minutes away but would make the trip again just to eat here. PERFECT.

Generous portions of fish and chips, cooked to order with plenty of choice and a specials menu too. Pukka pies also on offer if fish isn't your thing.

Reliable local chip shop. You could be queuing outside in the cold for a while as no system inside the shop for ordering/waiting so gets a bit confusing to know what line to join.

Cracking food, prompt service, very clean, was extremely busy for midday on a Saturday, so it's wise to book a table.
