Pantrinis Fish Restaurant in North Tyneside

We wanted to have fish and chips while staying in Whitley Bay and Pantrinis was recommended. We weren’t disappointed, the food was excellent.

This is an ideal place for a quick and tasty meal if you're seeing a show at the nearby Playhouse. They have been in business since the 1920s so they know a thing or two about traditional seaside fish and chips. My cod and chips were delicious; the fish was well-battered and the chips were tasty. I had mine with gravy, which was a good consistency and flavourful. My sister had hers with mushy peas, which looked even better and which she said were tasty, My brother went for the smoky sausage and chips, which he seemed very happy with too. I noticed the menu was quite extensive and will be returning soon to try some of the other items: they have fried spam and chips which I can't wait to try on my next visit. They even have some gluten-free items and a veggie burger for those who need them. Service was friendly and quick too. Thanks to Pantrini's for keeping the spirit of British seaside scran very much alive!

It was our first time coming yesterday, now the staff member who served us was lovely/ the young blonde hair girl was lovely although the woman with dark hair she seemed pretty intimidating and no one wants that when you’ve got customers coming into a restaurant.. she was stood there staring at me with her arms crossed whilst I was figuring out what I wanted, she could have at least cracked a smile! The food.. it was alright I had cod and chips now the cod was very bland, no flavour at all and the chips… no words for those! They were hard and were full to the brim with grease! there was a pool of grease at the bottom of my paper bowl also they didn’t have much taste either. Don’t get me wrong when they came to the table they looked lovely but when I took a bite i was shocked to say that they weren’t the best. My partner got battered sausage and chips, I asked my partner how his battered sausage was and he said “no better than the chips” the gravy and the mushy peas were too thick for our liking too. Let’s just say we ordered a takeaway when we got home. The restaurant itself could also do with some TLC, it was a very dull restaurant could definitely do with a lick of paint or maybe some music playing in the background! Us and I think a few others felt like they had to whisper to have a conversation which isn’t the best really! Sorry to say this but we will not be back but we are grateful for this experience and thank you to the staff that served us.

On Wednesday myself and my husband visited Pantrinis for our fish and chips, as we do whenever we are visiting the North East coast. There were 3 girls working there who could not been more than 20 years old each. Service was not the very best and to top things off our meals weren't the best I have ever had. In fact I would say it was disgraceful, mushy peas were like water and the chips had been re cooked so were near enough dark brown. Admittedly there was an older lady working in the takeaway. I feel that there should be more mature staff working here, instead of getting bits of kids on a low wage working here. IF YOU PAY PENUTS, YOU GET MONKEYS!!!

Highly Recommend the Battered Fishcake, it was divine with a refreshing hint of Lemon and herbs. Very light, Fluffy and not greasy at all served with Good Chips, slice Lemon and recommend it with a box of scraps.

Chips were not fully cooked, curry sauce was insipid. Fish was acceptable as was the battered sausage. Cost was nearly £20 which is excessive. Not an experience we care to repeat.

Visited with my two children for a quick snap whilst enjoying Whitley bay. Landed around 6pm on a Tuesday. Chips tasted reheated and slightly stale and I did find one chip uncooked. We have visited many times before and it’s always been spot on. it is quite an expensive fish & chip restaurant.

Popped in for a chip butty on a rainy mid week evening in March filling in time before going to show at the Playhouse. Chips were awful, hard and dry, probably recycled from yesterday. Not impressed, won’t be going back, and not cheap either.

We just got a portion of chips but they were absolutely lovely. Will be coming back to try the rest of the menu for sure 😋 thanks!

Very poor !! Took over 25 minutes to serve 3 fish and chips for a takeaway. Really slow service and rude staff. Fish was so poor and soggy. Avoid the place !!!

Takeaway - delivered as part if Whitley Bay Film Festival to a film show at St Mary's. Really poor food. Chips still raw in the middle, soggy on the outside, not at all crispy and they were dark brown to look at. Tasted dreadful.Inedible. Fish and burger at best 'edible'. At £20+ just for the takeaway it was completely underwhelming. We'll never buy from Pantrinis again.

Order a small fish and chips a cup of tea with sugar and crispy bits. No crispy bits, no sugar in the tea, no offer of ketchup. The chips were pale. She had a hacking cough.

I have no idea what has happened. We've always loved the chips here. Went for lunch today and had some of the worst chips I've ever eaten. All three portions that we had were really dry and tasteless. On top of that I had one chip that was completely raw in the middle and a few that were only just cooked. Please go back to cooking chips like you used to!

Restaurant with no atmosphere, and restaurant food served in cardboard trays. The salt cellar was filled with sugar, and when we mentioned it to staff, the older lady was unhelpful, and did not believe us, and said it was rice!!!!!! Very poor customer service!

Fish finger sandwich great. Chips not brilliant Waitress bit rude when asked for knives, seemed unhappy and threw on my mums tray (who is 84) then glared at us going down stairs. Thank goodness this place has chips that are fried separately and in vegetable oil rather than beef dripping, as the three chip places close by do. The chips were a standard size portion and were fine, but nothing special. I was just relieved to find somewhere that had chips suitable for vegetarians.

Could not believe size of portions. I ordered large cod and chips and the fish was similar to a child's portion. My partner ordered regular haddock and the fish was tiny. Both fish were also wafer thin. Mushy peas had strange taste and to top it all off as we were leaving one of the servers was coughing into her hands and immediately started taking orders out of the heated compartment for next customers.

Absolute disgrace, owners should be charged with extortion, cost almost £40 for 2 x fish n chips plus 2 cans pop. Food was awful, very dry n unappetising plus portions were pathetic especially considering disgustingly high price. I assume by family run business they mean satins family or a family of con men at the least. Hope the place is burnt to the ground with the entire family in it.

Unfortunately the customer service is abysmal, I ordered large cod to receive what could only be a small/OAP special sized I’d say. Hoping this was an oversight I messaged Pantrini’s not even a response after using them for years. Portions small, prices high and quality of the cod wasn’t good £11.50 and my hand was bigger than it. However they continue to take your hard earned and rip you off, so I’ve tried the fisherman’s bay better quality and portions!

Feed the family deal not available during kids holidays which would be a massive help to families…..

Dreadful, horrible, don’t waste your money. Pantrinis is nowhere near what it was. Very disappointed, we were left angry and hungry. Some Mother’s Day treat. See photos attached, curry sauce was so thick, with big gelatinous lumps, so concentrated and salty it was impossible to scrape it off the food.

Went in a few days ago for a sit down lunch and didn’t enjoy the experience at all. The waitress cleaned our table with a spray and Scrunched up cloth full of food bits. Didn’t rinse cloth and proceeded to wipe the condiment all over....

We had the the sausage and chips, large fish and chips and the cheese savoury and chips along with peas And curry. The food was nice and service was good. It took about 25 minutes for our food however the seating area both downstairs and upstairs did look to be busy so I expected a small wait. I would only suggest a refurbishment of the restaurant as it looks old and outdated.

I decided to take a trip to Whitley Bay instead of having my usual Sunday meal and I found Pantrinis. We took our food to go and I was very pleased with the service food and that I only had to wait around 7 minutes from being served to being out the door! Popped in as we were in the area and fancied fish and chips , sat and ordered 2 cod and chips , both the fish were freshly cooked and a good size , plenty batter and good cooked chips , the seating area was a little busy but not to bad with the weather being poor in Whitley , good service with the food being brought to the table and a friendly waitress , deffo cant go wrong with Pantrinis if in the area and will deffo be back

We haven’t visited here since August. To our surprise the dining in was very busy still even in the winter! Lovely ladies working there always polite and friendly with children! Lovely Cod yesterday too! 😍

Thought we'd give this place a go seeing as we were taking our little girl to the arcades near by. We were so appalled by the service we left after waiting 45mins for our two orders of fish and chips. We were repeatedly lied to by staff saying ours was next. After a long wait we decided to leave. Upon leaving we then had a further wait for a refund seeing as you have to pay in advance! Turns out they couldn't even find our order so I found if hilarious how staff kept telling us ours was next. We ended up going to the lovely little restaurant next door where we got our dinner immediately. Not even worth a second chance after all that, don't waste your time going.

My children and i had the most outstanding experience in the takeaway on Sunday! The staff are welcoming and catered so well towards my gluten free needs! She was very cautious with all the allergies! This used to be the best fish and chips in the North East. However, it has went right back IMO. Portion sizes are tiny for the price. Very expensive. Chips were awful like they’d been cooked twice, hard in the middle but almost burnt on the outside, and the fish was terrible with batter being nothing like it used to be and greasy. Won’t be back as the prices are also ridiculous for what you get. Whole 3 meals were awful. Sorry, this place used to be fab, but now needs a refurb too.

After arriving at Pantrini's with my husband and brother we sat down to a dirty table. After asking waitress to clean it she gave it a brief wipe and walked off leaving it half done !! The door next to us would not close properly so we continually had to get up and close it ! When our food arrived after over half an hour it was not worth the wait. The small fish and chips arrived on a tea plate!! Regular fish and chips weren't much bigger. We asked for hot water as our tea had gone cold and this never arrived!! We ordered a small fish and chips, expecting to have a half fish and a lot more chips than we got. It looked like a kids meal, so I dread to think what a kids meal looks like! We also ordered a jumbo sausage and chips, and the portion size was shocking. My advice, don’t bother coming here and go to The Waterfront on North Shields Fish Quay, you get a lot more for you money, the service is better and it’s a lot nicer!

On our visit to Pantrinis restaurant yesterday we had a beautiful fresh cod and haddock with chips! The best in whitley bay! You definitely get your money’s worth! Staff are fantastic and very accommodating to! 🐟🍟

Food was decent for the price but young man serving us looked and sounded like he would rather be anywhere else but there! All the rest of staff we talked to were great!👍👍

When we called there was no-one there and we thought they were closing - did not appear to be any food cooked but they said they were open and we sat down to await our food. The tables were sticky and the whole place looked and felt unkempt - end of season? who knows. The food when it came was inedible - my fish had a strange ammonia/chlorine taste that meant i could not eat it and the chips were al dente - at best (almost raw). The steak pie was an example of how not to make a pie - shredded meat in a tough slightly burnt looking pie - AND stone dry inside not even a hint of the gravy we would have expected from a pie - inedible. 3 cans of overpriced pop and sachets of tomato ketchup at 32p!!! each. Total for 2 fish and chips and 1 pie and chips = £34.95!! never again and i would advise you give this run down dump as wide a berth as you can - if you value your stomach and money. If i had the option i would have given this place a minus rating.

Went today with my daughter and granddaughter ordered our food which came within 15 minutes our table had leatherette covers on which had slash marks on the staff were not that friendly and the fish was under cooked and the chips looked like they were cooked twice I have to say a few years ago it was a fantastic place to eat at would have recommended it back then but sorry not now

Pantrinis is a fantastic fish and chip shop located on Whitley bay sea front. Their fish is always cooked beautifully and the service is great as well.

We visited after watching the links fireworks show and the food was lovely + staff were pleasant . Upon ordering food we were informed there would be a 15 minute wait which we expected as the restaurant was very busy but food arrived quick, hot and looked delicious! Will be paying another visit when we are in the area again

We visited on the 15th October during the evening for the perfect after-school tea!! Our order was Cod + Chips, Scampi and Chips and a kids chicken nuggets and chips which were all beautifully presented. Kids meal comes with drink and sachet of red sauce. Meals were reasonably priced. The young waitress and a young man were splendid, smiley and welcoming. Will definitely be visiting again!!

My son has taekwondo around the corner, after his lesson, I said I'll treat him to fish and chips, my son orders the sausage and chips, me the fish (haddock) and chips, plates arrive, not a bad portion, fish was tremendous, good batter, flaky fish, chips good, my son's sausage was just ok, nothing special, I would have give this review five stars but I just can't, I mean my fish and chips cost a tenna, you have to pay extra for peas and the tomato sauce, come on man, stop being greedy, a bottle of tomato sauce costs nothing, especially when I'm sitting dinning, little touches like that can give you that extra star.

I ordered some fish and chips today, large portion as I was poorly and looking forward to filling traditional fare. When it arrived I was very disappointed. The batter looked splendid but the chips tasted very oily and of cooking oil, a slight fishy smell coming out of the box and the flesh of the fish wasn't the brighest colour either, it's supposed to be bright white. The mushy peas were not very nice, the tartar sauce however delicious and made eating the unpleasant tasting chips a little easier.

Trading on an award won 8 years ago, it was really good then. Now it’s poor. High prices, small portions, dirty cups, and missing orders do not enamour. I’ve been many times before but now will find somewhere else.

We were staying in Whitley bay for our holidays. And the fish and chip shop was just up from we’re we stayed. The fish and chips were very nice and so was the whole place where we stayed.

We visited as a family they provided paper and crayons for colouring in. Service was good with most staff however the young man who served our hot beverages didn't have great people skills and forgot the milk for both drinks but other staff we interacted were smiley and bubbly and nothing was a problem. The food was excellent and service time was good. My only suggestions would be a new lick of paint on the place as looks a little outdated.

Visited pantrinis for family meal first impressions where rude staff when I asked for 2no fish to be put in the pan. Expensive tasteless food won’t be going back.

We visited as a family, have to say I wish we had gone somewhere else, the tables were sticky even after asking for it to be cleaned, the service wasn’t the best, very small portion size and on the expensive side.

We visited the restaurant for the 2nd time on Tuesday afternoon and yet again the best service and food around!

Living in the north east I’m accustomed to high quality fish and chips, served extremely quickly. If you venture down to North Shields fishquay the service and quality of the food is exceptionally high. That is not the case here however. They don’t have anything pre cooked and ready to go, everything is cooked to order and their system could do with an update.

We ordered before 18:00 and I rang at 19:30 and was told it had been delivered so must of been a mistake. I was then told that I’d get it delivered but not until 20:20 which was ridiculous waiting time. Lady was nice and told us she’d add complimentary drinks in it. Ordered arrived and no drinks in it. Portion size was ridiculous for the price as well. Got 6 cod bites and 3 of them were tiny. Wouldn’t recommend, plenty of other fish places that give more than enough! Not using this place again.

Probably the best fish and chips in the north east if not the UK, staff are great and it’s in an easy accessible location with disabled toilet and good takeaway or eat in options! Also on just eat.

Decided to grab a quick bite from the takeaway bit, decent enough food, not the best by a long way though, however the prices seemed a bit over the top, but you don't seem to get to find that out until after ordering... All the prices on the menu behind the range/counter have seemingly been rubbed out, is it that difficult to show what you're actually charging? I always thought that that was a requirement nowadays, if not it really should be. Inordinate wait for a small order too......

Not the best I've ever had. Expensive and very greasy too. The advantage of a take away is you can't be bothered to drive back and complain. We ended up throwing most of the £30.00 order in the bin... Won't try here again

We ate upstairs in the restaurant - not exactly a feast for the eyes. Very basic and felt a bit grubby. Fish & chips were tasteless when they finally arrived after a very long wait - by which time our tea had gone cold. The two in our group who had macaroni cheese polished it off, so that is a positive, likewise the fishcake - but the chips were left.

Good quality food that is freshly cooked. Sadly they'd run out of some items we would have liked to try. Food is packaged in sturdy boxes that last whilst eating from them.

We visited Pantrini's during the Carnival on the saturday and were looked after throughout our entire time in the restaurant! The best cod, chips and curry sauce i have had around Whitley bay in a while. The staff were amazing and were cheerful and also made sure everything was okay with our meal and they were even communicating with our younger child and saying how good his colouring in was - which we fully appreciated!! 100% would recommend especially for family's with younger children. Definitely will be visiting again very soon good work Pantrinis!

Called in on Bank Holiday Monday lunchtime with family and decided to eat in the restaurant. Ordered four haddock and one pensioners portion of cod. Some of the best fish we have ever tasted. Only minus points, could do with a smaller haddock portion on offer and do not expect to have to butter your own bread in a restaurant

We ordered fish and chips to take away. I have coeliac disease and they do gluten free on request and have a separate fryer. Everyone was happy with their meals. Mine (GF) was the best I have had. The fish was delicious and moist in crunchy batter, the chips weren’t greasy and the gluten free curry sauce was very good. The meals were boxed and mine was clearly labelled gluten free. Very satisfied and will definitely get fish and chips from Pantrinis again.
